Product Description
Trust the DJ are pleased to announce the latest mix from the renowned Compost Records and Compost-Jazzanova-Records (JCR) label head and renaissance man, Michael Reinboth.

Compost was founded in Munich by DJ and music journalist Reinboth in 1991 and has consistently produced world-class drum&bass, soulful jazz laced funk, and has helped create a scene in Germany and a label which has nurtured the likes of Rainer Trüby, Jazzanova, Peter Krüder, Fauna Flash and his own project Beanfield together with recording partner Jan Krause.

Reinboth’s seminal club, Into Something was the first to showcase the burgeoning acid jazz scene of the early ‘90’s and the label’s first release "A Forest Mighty Black 12 (Fresh in My Mind)" was an instant success, picked up and played by Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay and James Lavelle.

Michael compiled and mixed the critically lauded Future Sound of Jazz series, which fused the jazz analogue with the soulful electronic. The Brazilian influenced Glücklich series had music aficionados similarly agog. "Glücklich IV is like meeting your lover at your favorite club spot for a round or two ... and whatever else happens" said XLR8R magazine.

4 out of 5 stars Heavy on the Beanfield... and that's a GOOD thing!.......2005-04-25

Seeing that Michael Reinboth had come out with a compilations series is one thing in and of itself. Add to that, that it was released via "Trust the DJ", and this was a no-brainer selection for me. He is one of the most if not THE most influential piece of Compost Records and Jazzanova Compost Records. Knowing that, you get a feel of the immense cataloge of musicians and artists that he has personally worked with, remixed, and helped out... from 'Beanfield', Minus 8, Fauna Flash, Truby Trio, Joseph Malik, Faze Action, Intuit, Kyoto Jazz Massive to Jazzanova and Koop. That's not including the seemingly endless amount of artists that have hit the remix table.

The mix is great. This Trust the DJ series is a soulful vibe, but a bit different than some of the others like Phil Asher, Dr. Bob Jones or Patrick Forge. It starts out with a soulful Hairy Diamond track. Then I was hooked to it with the mesmerizing Beanfield remix to "Colloquio". Cool, cool, cool stuff. NIce hook - perfect lounge, almost with a spy theme to it. Clyde kicks it up with "Serve it Up!, given an eerie remix that makes it sound so... well... Europish. Great cruisin' track though. You've got broken beats in the mid portion of the cd - with The Return of the Runner and Putch 79 contributing, respectively. The Return of the Runner's track reminds me of an old Fila Brazilia cut off of "Power Clown", only more electric and with far more enhanced broken beat. Ennio Morricone has a fresh remix to Dal Mare - thanks to Eddy & Dus, another long-time Compost Favorite. And check the other Beanfield remix to "Freakin' Weirdo" by Tweak. But the cut that stood out - Beanfield's "Close to You". The version here is acoustic, and it's very rich, and incredibly romantic. Ernesto's great on vocals and to be honest it sort of reminds me of a Babyface track.

I certainly recommend this. It's another quality release from this franchise (Trust the DJ) that prides itself in putting out tunes compiled and mixed by dj's with deep record bags. This one wasn't without fault - not all of the tracks got me. Tiga's "Hot in Hear" is rather bad, IMHO - sounds like an old Pac-Man video game. But the positives far outweigh the negatives in my book here. Obviously if you dig this check out some of the other Compost artists, particularly Beanfield. But you may also want to give a listen to Victor Davies, New Sector Movements, 4 Hero, Incognito and heck, an Afrotronic compilation - and certainly masters of the broken beat, Phil Asher, the Bugz, and Modaji.
