Album Description
Throughout the 90's and into the new millennium, Carlos Guitarlos could be found playing guitar for pocket change on the streets of San Francisco's Mission District. Oftentimes, Carlos slept on those same cold streets where he eventually became a street-corner legend (The SF Bay Guardian name him the city's "Best Street Musician" in 1994). For the one-time musical leader of legendary Los Angeles roots-rockers Top Jimmy & The Rhythm Pigs -- inspiration for the 1984 Van Halen song "Top Jimmy" -- it had been a long, slow downward spiral of divorce, diabetes, and drugs.
In the wake of his hard-knock life, Carlos found himself in a San Francisco hospital, fighting for his life with congestive heart failure. That experience, combined with the alcohol-related death of his friend and former band-mate, Top Jimmy, proved to be the catalyst of his personal turnaround. Within a couple of weeks of his hospital stay, with the help of his family, Carlos finally found his way back into a recording studio, hence the release of "Straight from the Heart" in 2003, which features the helping hands of old pals Mike Watt, John Doe, and Dave Alvin. The album's title track was written from his hospital bed.
Showcasing Carlos's stinging, fluid fretwork, lived-in vocals, and uncanny ability to write original songs in a wide variety of classic styles, the album made Rolling Stone Magazine's "Top Albums of 2003" and it was swiftly picked up for national distribution, a fact that was covered by Billboard Magazine, who described his re-emergence as "one of the most surprising music stories of the year."
The long-awaited follow up, "Hell Can Wait", features a stronger, healthier Carlos on another 19 original compositions. Guest artists include Marcy Levy (Clapton, Shakespear's Sister), Gene Taylor (Blasters, Fabulous Thunderbirds), and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos.
Customer Reviews:
This is a feast.......2005-09-21
This is a feast of traditional American music forms and wry twists. The opening cut sounds like Delta country blues, but perhaps with a little Leon Redbone circa 1970's thrown in. From there the CD rambles through many forms, such as the Fats-Domino-style "Here I Am," the soul stylings (with Marcy Levy) of "I Found a Love," the Los-Lobos-style (with David Hidalgo) "Shake My Blue" and the Doug-Sahm-jukebox music style of "I've Been Drinking Again." But the songs are all Carlos originals, with a co-write credited to Levy and Top Jimmy here and there.
The song "Baby's Coming Home Soon" (not sure exact title) starts out like a session from Dylan's "Everybody Must Get Stoned" and crosses paths with old time blues. "Sure Is Good" has the folks from Double Naught Spy Car throwing in what sounds like a TV theme I can't quite place. Hidalgo, Marcy Levy, and the wonderful Gene Taylor add spice, but it's Carlos who serves up this feast. If you don't like one kind of song, wait until the next cut: there's everything here from calypso style to a hard-to-sing-real-fast bluegrass-tinged number.

Customer Reviews:
Why has nobody else I know heard of this band?.......2000-12-06
Possible contender for the most underrated band of all time... why am I the only person I know who thinks Fuzzy are one of the best bands ever? This, their third album, is almost as good as Electric Juices, their second. Buy them both if you haven't already. This album is worth buying just for "Dead End Day" which is a great song - almost as good as "Someday", "Glad Again" and "Sleeper" from the second album. If you are (or ever have been) into bands like the Lemonheads (and like female singers) then you will definitely like this. I can't believe how little there is on the internet even about this band. What I'm trying to say is - Fuzzy are an excellent band and this is an album well worth the risk. I took a risk when I bought the second album (I'd only heard one song) and discovered one of my favourite bands! You never know what could happen... you might meet somebody else who likes them or has even heard of them... then again, you might not.
Long time fan from New York.......1999-06-16
Thankfully our prayers have been answered and Fuzzy is back with their best record to date. After dealing with major label nonsense they've been left to simply concentrate writing songs. This one has a few country inspired tracks, which they excell at and "Summer Is Gone" is one the best songs you'll hear all year. Definitly a must buy for any lover of the pop rock.
Hurray! Fuzzy's back!!!.......1999-04-16
This is they're best CD yet!! I'm so glad that they have stuck it out and are writing as good (if not better) songs!

WOW!.......2007-05-24
I can honestly say I've never heard music quite like this. A beautiful indie album that sample just about every genre out there including punk, jazz, and even a little folk. Every song is great, but I would recomend Post-Scarcity Sing-A-Long, Fish Would Much Rather Swim, & Voodoo Economics as songs that you absolutely must listen too.

Product Description
American Catapult's third release since 2003, and their first with Further South Recordings, Trees of Mystery has been hailed by critics as the perfect roadtrip soundtrack. Although it helps to have a stereo in your car, just singing the songs with the windows down also works. But if you do own a car stereo, it's better to have the CD.

One Bad Mama Jama.......2003-05-20
In the reggae arena, women are often slept on, crept on and just downright wept on. The problem is there aren't too many sisters in the game that keep our attention span, especially if they aren't wining and shaking all but the kitchen sink to keep us noticing. In these days its only sex that sells and if you aren't selling as a female artist, then you might as well go to the back of the line. Sister Carol has been on the reggae scene for 20+ years and has been standing front and center. She has a slew of albums that get minimum critical priase, along side her male comrades, she has managed to produce more work than many of them. This album recorded in 1999 in North Carolina, proves that outside of the studio Sister Carol is at her musical peak. With her first hand knowledge of Kingston musical history, she is armed with the best material money can buy. The album blazes through many of her hits on past albums including Call Mi Sister Carol, Dem Cannot Stop Reggae, Original Wombman, and many other pro-female anthems that are bound to make you think and dance. Her intense flow and mezmerizing chatting keeps you transfixed to her prowess and intelligence. Something many female MCs could learn from the dubbed Mother Culture. This album, gives the listener a true griot from the streets of Kingston, and while she holds her womanhood in strong relation with Rastafari, Sister Carol keeps her hold on this album with sheer dexterity and truth. The album bounces the whole way through with solid backing that is hardcore roots reggae and pure enjoyment.

Great debut from an incredible band.......2001-05-20
Though this CD isn't quite as good as their other CD, "Live at Wetlands", this debut CD from Ulu, a great jazz/funk band is more that satisfactory. One of the greatest jam bands ever. Check them out.
