Dancing and Listening.......2007-04-05
This is great for dancing and listening. It will put you in a good mood.
Great dance music, with some quirks.......2007-04-03
I enjoy this disc, and it is great fun to dance to. Most of the tempos are appropriate, but there are some interesting quirks here that other reviewers have not mentioned. I list these after the title, duration, and suggested dance:
There will never be another you, 2:55, Foxtrot
I've heard that song before, 3:02, Foxtrot
In a mellow tone, 3:16, Foxtrot
I let a song go out of my heart, 2:02, Foxtrot
Teach me tonight, 3:01, Foxtrot (Oh! It begs to be danced as a West Coast Swing)
On a little street in Singapore, 3:20, Foxtrot
Mister Sandman, 2:40, Foxtrot (Hey, this is perhaps 58 bpm, so dance it as a Quickstep)
Sunny side of the street, 2:43, Foxtrot (Again, it works great as a West Coast Swing)
Crazy World Theme, 2:10, Waltz
Song from Moulin Rouge, 3:22, Waltz
Put your dreams away, 2:39, Waltz
Charade, 2:34, Waltz
Tenderly, 2:56, Waltz (A beautiful recording, but it is somewhat difficult to hear the beat)
In a perfect world, 4:18, Waltz (Very slow at the start, perhaps 28 bpm?)
Bicyclettes de Belsize, Les, 3:10, Waltz
Let's Dance.......2007-02-22
Didn't open the CD, therefore no review: reason for return didn't receive on date promised.
Foxtrot Fun.......2006-07-07
My husband and I really enjoyed this CD. We're ballroom beginners and have trouble finding music to practice to. This CD has great songs (with singing - neither one of us cares for the "instrumental" versions of popular songs) and it allows us to practice dancing to a variety of tempi.
This is a great collection of music!.......2006-03-23
If you are looking for a collection of standards that are by the origional artists, this is a great CD! I'm dissapointed how many collections are out there where the music is watered down versions that sound much like elevator music. This collection should definitely be apart of yours. It's great to finally be able to dance to the origionals that made the dancing popular to begin with. I should point out that this isn't a collection of greatest hits, but it shouldn't be overlooked.

Great for teaching.......2007-05-29
It's rather old but the tempos are good. Music is fine. Very danceable.
Historic, danceable, and a bargain!.......2007-04-02
Arthur Murray (born Moses Teichman in 1895) became a franchising legend in the 30s and 40s as he sold rights to teach his "footstep" dance patterns across the United States. He opened his first franchised dance studio in 1938, and these numbered more than 3,500 at their peak. Following the Second World War, he put heavy emphasis on the "Latin American" dance steps that he adapted from several long visits to Cuba. Part of his genius was borrowing the "strict-tempo" dance rhythm ideas he heard from Victor Silvester and the best of the British dance bands. With the exception of a slight retard at the end of the song, a strict tempo made it easier for men to count their steps and help their partners look better.
The tempos - appropriate in 1960 - tend to be a little faster than current DanceSport preferences. With due respect to other esteemed reviewers, tracks 8 and 18 need not be labeled rock-n-roll. Try dancing West Coast Swing to track 8 and Lindy-hop to track 18 and your feet will feel oh so good! This collection is indeed a "fabulous" bargain at $11.99.
GRCD34.......2006-08-21
This is a very good collection of classic dance music by Arthur Murray Orchestras.
The Fabulous Ballroom Collection-Arthur Murray Orchestra.......2006-08-07
I ordered the CD in order to have a variety of music for dancing and will be using it. It is not as good as a couple of other CDs I ordered; however, it is more than passable.
Older music for American Style Dancing.......2006-03-31
I do not have this CD but I listened through the samples. It sounded like bunch of latin music with a little bit of standard music. However one thing that I will tell you about this CD is that if you are planning to dance any International style ballroom dancing, this CD is not for you. If you are dancing American style and enjoy old music from 50's buy it.

Great Package.......2007-01-30
My wife and I found we could enjoy dancing the waltz at parties after watching the DVD and practicing with the music from the CD. The combination is very inexpensive compared to private lessons more than an order of magnitude (1/10th) less expensive. I would rate the quality of this set as very high and recommend it

Customer Reviews:
good beats to dance to.......2007-04-12
As a beginning ballroom dancer, I was happy with this album, with samples of lots of different types of songs, with easy-to-follow beats. I would recommend it for some of the more basic ballroom dances -- waltz, tango, foxtrot. The songs are a little boring, but that's okay, because the point for me was just to provide some variety in backdrop music as I'm trying to learn the steps.
Actually, this is 3 and a half stars.......2007-04-04
Lots of good instrumental dance music at a very reasonable price. This is full orchestra dance music and the strings often carry the melody line. The beat, provided by plucked bass or bass guitar, is easy to hear. The cover lists the appropriate dance and the tempo (bpm). The tempos are appropriate to the suggested dance, with the exception of tracks 23, 24, and 25. I suggest foxtrot for tracks 23 and 24. Track 25 works with West Coast Swing. Oh, and track 14 (Liebesträume) has some slightly sour strings.
Here is the title, duration, suggested dance, and tempo:
Around the world, 2:27 Waltz, 30
Fly me to the moon, 2:28, Waltz, 30
Charade, 2:27, Waltz, 30
Rosita, La, 2:13, Tango, 33

Autumn leaves, 2:28, Foxtrot30
Summertime, 2:28, Foxtrot, 30
Moonlight serenade, 2:28, Foxtrot, 30
This masquerade, 2:26, Foxtrot, 30
Nocturne, 2:26, Foxtrot, 30
Top of the world, 2:08, Quickstep, 52
Sing, 2:05, Quickstep, 52
Liebesträume, 2:29, Waltz, 30
Mozart's concerto for piano & orchestra, 2:29, Waltz, 30

Walk in the Black Forest, A, 2:03, Quickstep, 52
Superb CD for both Listening & Dancing.......2003-12-12
I DJ for Social Ballroom dancing here in Peterborough Ontario and am always on the lookout for new music. This and the other Columbia Ballroom Orchestra CDs that I have just received (5 in number) are superb. The music is in strict tempo for dancing and the songs are ones that all my dancers can relate to and sing along with. I just hope there are more Columbia Ballroom Orchestra CDs around that I can get my hands on.
Best ballroom.......2001-07-01
Best music for ballroom dancing, great arrangements, never boring. Latin songs esp. good. Wish they would put out more albums.
Excellent Dance Music.......1999-05-05
This CD is professionally recorded and very enjoyable to listen to. It's perfect to practice your dancing skills. The music is grouped in 3 or 4 of the same dance so that you can practice a particular type of dance several times in a row. I highly recommend this CD, along with Let's Dance - Latin Collection(see review).

Top value for good dance music.......2007-01-29
28 great tunes played by THE orchestra that developed and popularized strict tempo dance music. All of the great dance orchestras learned from listening to Victor Silvester, and this album will help you appreciate their wisdom. It is not historic in the sense of "You're Dancing on my Heart." Rather, it continues his genius in a worthy manner. This recording is amazingly clean for a digitally remastered album. Every track is danceable except maybe the "modern disco" track (#27).
Strict tempo dance music and a great buy.......2001-12-17
This British orchestra who has been around a long time. The music is "strict tempo" for competition or just dancing. Eight quicksteps is too many for Americans who don't dance it much. It would be difficult to dance magic rhythm to these quicksteps, as they are 50 measures per minute. The Modern Disco Beat is inappropriate on a ballroom dance CD, in my opinion. The Waltzes are a good tempo, not too fast. The Jive is very British. Get a Glenn Miller CD for American swing. The Latins are also good.

More comedy monologue than musical performance, Bea Arthur's one-woman show Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends collects memories from the silver-haired star's life on Broadway (Fiddler on the Roof, Mame, The Threepenny Opera) and television (Maude, The Golden Girls).
"I wanted to see if I had the guts to just come and be myself," Arthur says in this performance recorded in front of a live audience in December 2001. Alongside co-creator and pianist Billy Goldenberg, she offers wry and often funny anecdotes about her career and the people she's worked with (Angela Lansbury, Pia Zadora). When she does sing ... well, even decades ago Arthur didn't have a beautiful voice, but she's well-suited to the comedy songs. And her versions of Kurt Weill's "Pirate Jenny" and Goldenberg's own "Fifty Percent"--while they won't make anyone forget Lotte Lenya or Dorothy Loudon--are effective in their own right. Bea Arthur on Broadway is definitely more Bea than Broadway, but it's a career well worth remembering. --David Horiuchi
Customer Reviews:
And Then There's BEA!.......2007-01-20
Thank goodness this is available on CD. I saw the show twice in Manhattan and once in P-town MA. She is an American treasure. What's nice is that you don't need to have had seen the live performance to enjoy this CD. (Though I'd love to have it on DVD.) Just Bea, Billy, a piano and yet so much more!!!!!
Golden Girl Shines Brightly.......2005-10-21
For anyone who has ever laughed as Bea Arthur deftly put people in their place with her lightning quick wit as Dorothy on the "Golden Girls", they will not be disappointed with this CD. Arthur, some 9 years after leaving the small screen, returns triumphantly to her professional roots, the stage, and does not disappoint. Mixing antedotal stories with classic songs, all to the accompianment of Billy Goldenburg, Arthur weaves her life in a brillant 90 minute tapestry so that the listener regrets ever reaching the end. Anyone who has ever seen Arthur perform on stage, or as Maude or Dorothy, they will not regret purchasing this CD. For that rare minority of people who have not have the privilage of seeing Arthur previously should find out what they have been missing of this American icon.
Alive and Unforgettable.......2004-11-21
Bea Arthur. Nearing 80. And yet, her continuing vitality is blatantly obvious in this live recording. I will tell you this--I bought this disc with no expectations whatsoever. I like Golden Girls as much as the next chap, and I was slightly curious about what Bea had become.
The simple truth was that I was stunned. Completely stunned. Again, this sounds as the same, alive, malicious woman who portrayed those "affirmative women" on TV (per her own words). She mocks her own voice, recalling the humiliation of being mistaken for the man of the house through the phone ... and some--who buy this disk with the intent of getting a faultless musical performance--might agree (and according to some reviews her, HAVE agreed) that her voice is perhaps too deep, too cutting, not pure enough. But this is NOT (and I stress it) a musical performance per se, it is not a perfectly rounded voice singing perfect standards.
What this disc is? A drama performance. The songs are intermissed with speech interludes, during which Bea narrates anecdotes from her past experience as an actress--and that's is PRECISELY what is MAGIC. You feel as though she's inviting you to witness the high points of her life, and it's a very nice place. The songs, seem alive as rarely before, because they are performed. She renders them with life, and make the most of her abilities.
I really appreciated some of the smaller things. You get to recognize her trademark, slightly embarassed, `You know' ... She'll make you laugh with good natured reminiscence ("A Mother's Ingenuity"!); some of the songs are delightfully imperfect, (I learned to love the half-sung/half-spoken "What Do You Start" ...), some others are wonderfully dynamic ("What Can You Get a Nudist For Her Birthday?", "Threepenny Opera/Pirate Jenny" ...), but all are very enjoyable ...
Be it "Isn't He Adorable?" or "If I Can't Sell It, I'll Keep Sittin' on It" ... every track on this disc will have you fondly reminisce or curiously discover the career of one helluva woman.
You really can't be disappointed. I promise.

A trip down memory lane..........2003-10-19
Bea Arthur, one of the finest performers of her time.
Bea is most known for her role on the sitcoms Golden Girls and Maude, but she's done so much theater work as well.
She was in the cast of the original U.S production of "Threepenny Opera" starring Lotta Lenya, and in the original cast of "Fiddler On The Roof" and "Mame". But Bea started her theater career in a show called "The Shoestring Revue".
Bea stoled the scene every night when she performed as yente the Matcmaker on "Fiddler On The Roof" and she also got a hole lot of response as Vera Charles on "Mame", starring Angela Lansbury. In this live performence Bea performs a collection of songs chosen by herself, such as, "Let's Face The Music And Dance", "Isn't He Adorable", "Fifty Percent" and her theme song from Mame "The Man In The Moon". Bea is absolutely one of our time finest performers, with her witty sence of knowledge and her indefiable voice she has establised herself as a broadway legend, alongside Judy Garland, Elaine Stritch, Mary Martin. She is one of the last broadway female legends alive. And still going strong, Bea is rounding 80, but you wouldn't notice.
Do yourself a favour and take a trip down down memory lane, it's your chance to hang out with the last female broadway legend around.
A Truly Remarkable Accomplishment.......2003-06-16
As a huge fan of Bea Arthur's, I was very excited when I heard she would return to Broadway to do a one-woman show. Not since winning the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for "Mame" has Bea Arthur been on stage. Well, what a way to follow up! This cd (which was recorded during a live performance) Bea gives fans an intimate look into her show business life. The stories are very funny and touching, and the songs (which Bea picked out herself) are fun, beautiful, and magical. A favorite part of this cd for me, is when Bea talks about her days on TV. She was the star of two very successful and groundbreaking sitcoms, "Maude" and "The Golden Girls" I am a huge fan of "The Golden Girls" and Bea's character Dorothy was always my favorite. This cd is a must for any Bea Arthur fan, but the appeal of this amazing show goes beyond her hardcore fans. Any fan of classic Broadway and cabaret songs will love this cd. This is one of the favorite cds I own, and should be treasured by more people. And finally, as a sidenote, Bea's one-woman show was nominated for a Tony Award in 2001 in the category of Best Special Theatrical Event.

Decent foxtrots for the money.......2007-04-15
Bertone's Ballroom Orchestra is pretty decent. This disc is better for listening than for dancing. Current competition standards encourage a range of about 28-33 bpm for foxtrot, and none of this falls into a useful practice range.
If you have a big floor, and people don't mind a faster tempo, this could be fun for parties. The ninth track is a fast (38 bpm) and very danceable recording of "Its delovely."
Here is the title, duration, and beats per minute:
1. It's All Right With Me, 2:28 (23 bpm)
2. Top Hat, White Tie And Tails, 2:24 (24 bpm)
3. Eyi Wala Dong (That Happy Feeling), 2:58 (24 bpm)
4. Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Old Oak Tree, 2:54 (26 bpm)
5. So What's New, 2:35 (26 bpm)
6. Swing With Me, 3:30 (27 bpm)
7. Mack The Knife, 2:55 (35 bpm)
8. Let's Face The Music And Dance, 3:05 (38 bpm)
9. It's De-Lovely, 2:15 (38 bpm)
10. Rose Marie, 2:35 (40 bpm)
11. Fascinating Rhythm, 2:30 (43 bpm)
Baby this CD has the Beat!.......2007-02-03
My wife and I are in our 5th week of dance lessons and here is a CD that I can find a good beat to. Not only can we practice our moves in the Fox Trot, but also good for other dances such as East Coast Swing, etc.. Don't know about the previous comments, however, all the songs on our CD where as listed.
Strut your stuff and enjoy.
I just love the music and the CD........2003-03-18
I bought this CD and just love the music, the fact it has different tempos and each piece has identification mpm (measurement per minute). I may not be able to dance the last two pieces yet (40 and 43 mpm) (BTW, my CD got 11 tracks), but I was able to fit Slow-slow-quick-quick as well as other Fox-Trot figures into all pieces thru 9.
I have to admit that when I put the CD in for the first time I did not like it. I like it on the second run when I paid attention to the mpm and was practicing the dance.
I have to note this CD does not have songs, but music pieces, which are excellent for dancing and dancing practice. If you like songs and do not like just music, you probably will not like the CD, but this is a question of personal preference.
The fact that they put mpm is very good for the beginner dancers with bad musical ear (I have to admit). This way for example when I put my CD in for the first time, the piece number 6 (26 mpm) seemed for me much quicker then number 7 (35 mpm). However when I saw the mpms, I realize that I just missed (did not hear) the base. As soon as my ear got the base - I got the right rhythm. So this CD also is very good for training the ear.
The pieces are from 23 mpm thru 43 (last two are 40 and 43)
Resume: Depends on your goals, expectations and dance proficiency - I believe that this CD is a perfect choice, especially for the offered price.
Enjoy!
Not the best, but not all bad.......2000-03-01
My spouse and I bought this CD to practice dancing the fox-trot. Only tracks 7-10 work for the "slow-slow, quick-quick" fox-trot. The CD sleeve also discusses the faster "one-step" fox-trot, which the majority of the CD is more suited for. People who are just learning fox-trot may find the songs with the faster tempos too difficult to dance to. Overall, though, it's an ok dance CD.
OK CD, but songs differ from those described.......2000-02-29
The surprising thing about this CD is that the list of music included (same list here on Amazon.com and in the packaging) does not correspond to the music on the CD. I do not know all the pieces listed, but there are 14 items instead of 11. For certain, none of the following appear: Tie a Yellow Ribbon, Mack the Knife, It's Delovely. There is a catchy little number at #13 which seems to be related to the bumblebee tuna advertsing jingle.

Album Description
Spirited new sounds from across the sea to the shores of the New Land. From the first colonists to the American Revolution and the birth of our republic Hesperus Early Music Ensemble's music reflects a time of new ideas, freedom and vitality. In town and village, parlor and ballroom, from the Appalachians to the great concert halls hear the musical pulse of early American music performed on a wide variety of folk and early music instruments. Includes: lively country-dance tunes, evocative Shape Note Hymns, old time Appalachian fiddle tunes, graceful European parlor music, French cotillions, divisions and improvisations. Introduction -The English Colonies in America were a patchwork-not just of territories whose boundaries became state lines, but of people from different places and classes with widely different values and experiences. This recording presents music from that patchwork; from England, the Colonial homeland; Scotland and Ireland, the homes of the largest groups of immigrants outside England; and France, the ally of the Patriots, and music written in the United States. More recordings by HESPERUS from Maggie's Music are Celtic Roots featuring Scottish fiddler, Bonnie Rideout and Early American Roots. Hesperus Ensemble is THE sought after musical group for period music that is both authentic, and most important fun, lively and spirited. They are frequent performers at the Smithsonian's Institute of American Music and can be heard on the soundtrack or the Paramount film with Johnny Depp entitled Sleepy Hollow! Excerpts from liner notes:2.A Set of English Country Dance Tunes: Maiden Lane, Jack O'Lent, Chestnut, Bonny Broom - The visionary London music publisher John Playford first published his English Dancing Master in 1651. It was reprinted 18 times over the next 77 years and is still popular today. 3. Parting Friends/Primrose - These tunes have come down to us in choral arrangements called shape-note hymns .

GREAT!.......2007-05-20
This cd travels everywhere with me and you can easily imagine a ball at Monticello given by Mr. Jefferson when you hear it.
Try not to daydream too much while driving as i had done several times..lol..it's hard not to with this cd..:)
Perfect for a colonial reenactment or party.
A relaxing journey into our Colonial past.......2006-03-16
I bought this CD to provide me with another dimension to my studies of period events. It truly contains a wealth of music, and takes it place as an important addition to my musical library. Living in the Mt Vernon area, I often travel with the CD playing while visiting historical places, and it provides a wonderful companion to "set the mood" for the myriad locations in the area. The quality of the sound is remarkable, the musicians superb, and the breadth of song selection provides a musical landscape for the period. Highly recommended!!
Fantastic!.......2004-03-04
I first heard the "Colonial America" CD by Hesperus when I visited Monticello recently (the home of Thomas Jefferson) where they were playing the songs in the gift shop. Imagine my dismay to find that only one cassette tape was left of the fabulous music of Hesperus; however, that tape held me spell-bound all the way home, from Virginia to North Carolina.
It was an incredible journey from the past that has stayed with me since, and every day I drive that one hour back and forth to work. This music has changed everything about the trips, and I can't wait for more.
Thanks to Amazon.com I was able to buy all three CD's, including "Early American Roots," "Colonial America" and the incredible "Celtic Roots" with the most beautiful violas imaginable.
Thank you Hesperus! Please play more!
Cold Mountain type music that's great.......2003-11-15
Novels and movies like Cold Mountain, Oh Brother Where Art Thou? and Song Catchers are showing the growing interest in traditional music and this recording hits the mark. It is music from the days of early America--the time when the first colonists come to America. You can hear the fiddle playing tunes still popular in the Appalachian mountains today and also hear shape note music arranged by Hesperus as wonderful instrumentals. The music takes you to a time when folks were making music in their homes-before TV, before the internet! This recording is good for teachers or educational purposes too- with informative liner notes. All the music is played on folk and early music instruments and it's lively and an enjoyable listen.

Cha Cha .......2007-07-14
Excellent music and composition. Lively and exciting music allows the dancers to tune in on various beats.
The music is okay.......2007-05-07
I like the second song, tea for two. The others are okay, not too exciting.
A poor choice for practicing cha cha.......2007-04-15
El Gato's Rhythm Orchestra is very hit and miss. Some of this is fun. Except for the first track, I like much of this as music. But this is NOT a good disc for most dancers, and a terrible disc for beginners. Many of the tracks have radical tempo changes (as noted below). Tracks 9-12 are faster than competition tempos, and so better as slow mambos for beginners.
Here are the titles, durations, and tempos:
1. El Musico, 3:22 (21 bpm). Too slow, and painfully sour trumpets.
2. Tea For Two, 3:15 (28 bpm).
3. Dance Of The Hours, 3:33 (28 bpm). There is a radical rhythm change to a fast samba from 1:25-1:55 in this track.
4. Vendedor De Bananas, 4:39 (29 bpm). This is too long for most beginners, and not all that interesting.
5. Amada Mia, 3:26 (30 bpm). There is a radical rhythm change to mambo from 1:20-1:40 in this track.
6. Ojos Oscuros, 2:54 (32 bpm). Beware, the tempo increases toward the end.
7. Swanee River, 3:03 (32 bpm). Odd beginning with no cha cha beat.
8. Vacaciones En Caracas, 3:06 (33 bpm). There is a radical rhythm change from 2:00-2:20 in this track.
9. Volaré, 3:36 (34 bpm). Some odd changes in tempo at random points.
10. Tiritomba, 1:49 (34 bpm).
11. Hello Dolly, 3:12 (34 bpm).
12. Blue Cha Cha, 3:45 (35 bpm). Again, some odd changes in tempo at random points.
Now THAT'S dancing !!!.......2007-03-26
This CD entitled Strictly Dancing--Cha Cha offers an excellent introduction to cha cha dancing for people who want to dance the cha cha. The music bears that distinctive early 1960s Latin American beat and you will enjoy learning the cha cha as you listen to the music on this CD. Naturally, if you wish to just enjoy the music without dancing there's nothing wrong with that, either!
The CD opens with "El Musico;" this number uses the drums, percussion and horns to carry the bulk of the musical arrangement. The piano is great, too! The melody is infectiously catchy; and then the CD goes into a cha cha rendition of "Tea For Two" although this particular arrangement uses the drums and percussion more than the horns. The pace also increases somewhat so that you can begin to dance faster as you increase your ability to do the cha cha. El Gato's Rhythm Orchestra plays these two numbers very well.
Other great numbers on this CD include "Dance Of The Hours" with its lush intro and great horns; the relentlessly upbeat rendition of "Amada Mia" and even a cha cha rendition of Stephen Foster's classic entitled "Swanee River." Great!
"Volaré" is an excellent example of how El Gato's Rhythm Orchestra could fuse together an Italian classic with a distinctly Latin cha cha beat. The drums, percussion and horns again carry the melody; you will not be disappointed by this track. "Hello Dolly" continues in the same vein; this time El Gato's Rhythm orchestra blends together a classic American Broadway show tune with their wonderful Latin cha cha sound. Impressive!
The CD ends with "Blue Cha Cha;" this number has something of a Mexican flavor to it and the tempo is faster than ever for this last number. The horns are wonderful.
Although some reviewers give this CD only four stars I think I will make this a five star review for two reasons. First of all, the liner notes tell very clearly how to dance the cha cha. Although this is done from the man's perspective it was customary at the time for the man to "lead" the woman around on the dance floor. These cha cha dance instructions impressed me. Second of all, the tempo increases as the CD progresses; this offers everyone a chance to gradually increase their ability to dance the cha cha faster and more proficiently with time. The liner notes also give a brief history of the development of the cha cha dance.
Overall, this CD has great music for your easy listening enjoyment. Moreover, this CD also proves to be a handy instructional device you can use to learn how to dance the cha cha. Although the heyday of the cha cha is long gone, this is no reason to avoid learning it. May you get this CD and enjoy it as much as I do!
Cha-cha recordings.......2007-03-22
A good CD to use when practicing newly learned dance steps. The songs are easy to dance to and pleasing to hear.

Two and a half stars at best.......2007-04-21
The best I can say for this disc is that it is inexpensive. Beginners looking for music for practice will be frustrated by this disc, because the tempos are all over the place. They vary within each track, and they are often inappropriate to the needs of beginning dancers. Here are the titles, durations, suggested dance, and comments about tempos.
Moon River, 3:19, Waltz. The tempo is on the slow side for waltz.
Somewhere my love, 2:54, Waltz. This is a little faster and nice to dance to.
Paloma, La, 2:20, Tango. The tempo is okay, but the music is sort of dull.
Hernando's Hideaway, 2:31, Tango. Ditto.
Mambo #5, 3:22, Mambo. The tempo is okay, but it is NOT the Mambo #5 you expect it to be.
Mambo jambo, 2:42, Mambo. Good tempo, and great percussion.
Peanut vendor, 2:37, Cha cha. Watch out! Too fast for beginning cha cha.
Cherry pink and apple blossom white, 2:48, Cha cha. The tempo is okay but inconsistent.
Moonglow, 3:06, Foxtrot. Whoa! This is way too slo-o-o-w for foxtrot.
Me and my shadow, 2:29, Foxtrot. This tempo is okay for foxtrot.
Pennsylvania 6-5000, 2:58, Quickstep. This tempo is too slow for quickstep, and so try swing or Lindy.
In the mood, 3:06, Quickstep. This tempo is okay.
Good value for your dance music dollar.......2006-09-20
This CD presents some entertaining music that is enjoyable to both dance to and listen to. The recording quality is high. After purchasing the first copy for our own dance party use, our club purchased additional copies to give as door prizes.
Better choices than this.......2001-12-17
35 minutes makes this a short CD, even at the price. Moon River (waltz) has only the first beat (of 1, 2, 3) which makes it difficult for beginners. The second waltz is fine for beginners, not too fast. The Mambos are classic Prez Prado, super latin feeling. Cherry Pink is the classic arrangement with the retardo, so not strict tempo. The Fox Trots are good for box rhythm. The Quicksteps can be danced as swing. The Tango music is too mechanical, and not inspirational for dancing. Peanut Vendor (cha cha) is awful, in my opinion. There are better choices.
A great collection for the price.......2000-11-04
If you're looking for a CD for beginning dancers this is the one. A collection of great hits you can sing along with and dance along with. Sure to be a winner for any big band or ballroom fan.
