As quoted from Wikipedia to hopefully clear up some confusion about the sound of this new Röyksopp album.

Back to Mine is a series of mix albums, usually (though not always) mixed by renowned DJs or composers of electronic music. The compilations usually feature artists other than the artist compiling the album, and are based on what the artist would play at home after a night out, rather than as part of a nightclub session.

yea, im a little confused, i understood this wasn't a new album by royksopp, but then what is it?? a tribute cd??? if so why wouldnt they say that??? the entire album is a complete mish-mosh of electronic sub-genres and it makes no sense. none of this sounds like royksopp to me so im not really that happy.

Even though none of the cuts are by Royksopp per se, the cumulative feel of the CD itself is very Royksoppian and equally delightful to the ears. I recently had the pleasure of enjoying this entry into the "Back To Mine" series during a long road trip through the Pacific Northwest. While it was playing, I was in bliss. The boredom of driving was erased with a smile on my face during every moment it was playing. What a perfect CD for the road.

I was so excited when I went to my mailbox one sunny afternoon to find that the brand new Röyksopp CD, not even available in US stores, had finally arrived. I quickly jumped into my car, ripped open the packaging and sped away on a musical joyride. As the CD played on I thought to myself: ''What is this!? This doesn't sound like the Röyksopp I know and love at all.'' After a 30 minute tour, I pulled back into my driveway sorely disappointed. I put the CD away until the next day and oh what a difference a day can make. The second time I rethought my previous loathing and the third time I was digging more and more of the songs, especially the first track. In the course of a week it had become my favorite current CD. I brought it everywhere I went: to the beach, to bed, to dates, to outings with friends. Those I played it for dug it too and I came to realize that the purchase had been well worth it. Though not Röyksopp in the form I was used to (but then again, the Understanding was a complete departure from Melody A.M.), repeated listenings started to elucidate the some Röyksoppish elements. The first Röyksopp CD took us blissfully into the future, the second grounded us in the present, and the most recent ones takes us into the past in a funky, electro-synth sort of way. So take a chance!

Man ,oh man. This is the first negative review that I've ever written on amazon, but I really want to warn you about this one. Am I just not hip enough? Or is it the fact that I graduated high school in 1985 and have no desire to listen to bad music of that era? There are good reasons why some musical obscurities are obscure and that's because they should be. It's not that this compilation completely lacks any charms because it's occasionally vaguely charming, but it's mostly bad. It's mixed well, I suppose, so that's cool. I guess the fun of this album is to imagine that the creators of some of this music were actually serious, but I'm personally over imagining myself into actually liking cheesy music. Is it so cheesy that it's cool? If you want to find out for yourself, by all means, check this cheese platter out. In my opinion, a little cheese goes a long way, and this comp certainly goes the extra mile. I hate to use a lame pop cultural expression, but this comp makes me wonder if the previously highly esteemed Back To Mine series has jumped the shark. Avoid this comp, or at the very least, listen carefully before you buy it. No offense to Royksopp, who I've enjoyed in the past, but what were you thinking? Do you actually listen to music like this to unwind? Have you heard any other comps in this series? You've lowered the bar, gentlemen.

I'm not sure what's going on with this....it's the exact same tracks as the original Back to Love collection that Mark Doyle compiled in 1999. Are they re-issuing all the old discs (a la George Lucas' 'Star Wars')??? It's a good collection, but if you have the 1999 version, it's the same.

As is typical with these compilation cds, one recieves the shorter version of most songs when it is the unedited versions that became the hits;ergo, we "Can't Get Enough".

This economical CD contains 1 of the definative R&B 70's tunes in "Cant Get Enough of Your Love" and perhaps the best disco song ever written in "Love's Theme". It also contains 2 excellent cover versions of "Just the Way You Are" and "Standing In the Shadows of Love". White was a triple threat - writer, singer and arranger/producer and shows off his talents here.
Highly recommended!

Barry's music make's me want to dance, 30 year ago I watched him and love unlimited Live at Madison Square Garden and the magic is still there. His music is about Love and Feeling glad to be alive. Barry and Love Unlimited you Rule!

Since the early 70's, I remember Love's Theme but did not know the composer or the even the orchestration. Radio stations often use it as bumper music but rarely announce the title. Love's Theme was used as an intro to TV golf tournaments, but I still did not know title or composer. Finally last week a local talk show host used it as background in a discussion of Barry White. Bingo. I am no longer driven crazy not knowing where to find the music. I've listened to the entire CD compilation. Barry White truly is a musical genious. Amazon.com saved me a lot of time looking for Back to Back.

What Madonna and Neil Tennant Have in common is the money and power to pay others to do the job (i am ignoring the other Pet Shop Boy because God alone knows what he is good for). So no talent? Never mind, wave your cheque book and real musicians, top producers, ghost writers and collective sycophants will gather around and come up with goods.You can then float your tinny, thin little vocals and banal lyrics over their work. Afterwards you can go to the bank in your pick-up truck and load it with money. Meanwhile genuinely talented people scrabble to make a living. Ah me.'twas ever thus. To take this parasitical develpment to this logical conclusion they have here issued an album of other peoples songs , sung by....other people. Con-artists of the first degree.

5 out of 5 stars Best Compilation of 21st Century - So Far.......2006-01-23

The songs chosen by British pop stars Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe represent a fascinating mix of new wave, electro-ambient, and classical musics. Disc One, compiled by Lowe, will speak most directly to the gay generation that discovered its culture in the 80's and 90's. The drum machine clicks away until Dusty Springfield's "I'd rather leave while I'm in love," ends the disc, bringing back high school memories of roller-rink slow songs and high-school close dancing (which was dreadfully awful if you were in love with your same-sex best friend). Tennants disc is a lush, kaleidoscopic mix of electronic moods, and digital dreaminess, interspersed with modern symphonic works. The violin solo in "Come In!" captures the flying spirit of 20th century Russian high art - ever reaching skyward, yet never allowed to fly free. How Tennant ever managed the segue between Springfield's "I'm going back" to the next track is worthy of a Grammy, itself. The two discs are likely to be overlooked because of the price. But in this case, you get infinitely more than you pay for.

3 out of 5 stars Pet Shop Boys' contribution to the Back to Mine series shows 2 different sides to music.......2006-01-14

The Back to Mine series is designed to allows artists to create a mix that mirrors what they would play at home after a night out, or in the case of the Pet Shop Boys, what they would play before and after. Artists like Danny Tenaglia, Everything But the Girl, The Orb, and Groove Armada have all contributed mixes which vary widely in style, source music, and vibe. The Pet Shop Boys compilation, chosen in celebration of the 20th release of the Back to Mine Series, is a solid compilation of pre-club energetic house and late night ambient classical chill.

Chris Lowe starts the party with one of the better party discs I have heard in this series, the perfect mix of uptempo beats and anthemic songs to get you ready for a night out. The only flaw in his mix is the odd placement of Show Must Go On by Queen, which smacks a somber note in the middle of his high energy mix. Highlights include fast paced Ti Sento and Carl Bean's anthemic mix of I Was Born This Way.

Neil Tennant's disc is good, but much more relaxed and downbeat than Lowe. Tennant mixes soft ambient house beats and some haunting classical pieces into a soft, relaxing lullaby that brings you down from the high of Chris Lowe. Tennant's disc feels much longer than Lowe's, and is probably better suited as a stand alone disc.

Overall though, this is a solid addition to the BTM series and an interesting insight into the musical tastes of the Boys. Chris Lowe's disc alone would have been 4 stars, but taken as a whole the 2-disc set is more like 3.5. This album is a nice addition to my BTM collection and to my personal BTM fave by Groove Armada.

5 out of 5 stars Fun mix of music hand picked by the Pet Shop Boys!.......2006-01-11

The BACK TO MINE series is an on going collection of CDs which are artists picking their favorite songs for a dance CD. New Order and Everything But the Girl have done this previously with great results. The Pet Shop Boys are perfect candidates to do this sort of thing, because they have backgrounds as music critics and both can deejay very well. None of the tracks are Pet Shop Boys songs, this is just a collection of songs they love and would want to share with you.

Chris Lowe spins his disco magic over CD 1. It's peppy fun with Italian disco classics and grand anthems such as Queen's "The Show Must Go On". It will have you dancing around the room like a maniac, and it is full of high energy beats designed to get you moving.

Neil Tennant's disc is more a chill out affair with a lot of classical and soft electronic music. It's wonderful to relax to. All of it is lyric and pretty. It blew me away with its mellow collection of strings and pianos that wash over you for an hour.

Awesome collection! A must have for any fans of the Boys.

Anyone who bought this thinking it was PET SHOP BOYS music is . . . well, stupid. READ before you buy! It's an entire series ("Back to Mine") featuring various bands' choices of OTHER artists' material. Your own fault, folks.

THE BLONDIE HITS HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. THEY ARE STILL ON THE RADIO
AND THEY WERE RECORDED WELL. THE PAT BENATAR TUNES ARE GOOD BUT SOME ARE NOT AS FAMOUS. ANYWAY, FOR UNDER $10 INCLUDING SHIPPING, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.

This is a good introduction to each artist. It features five of the most popular songs from each artist. For Pat Benatar, she as a lot more than five hits, for Blondie, the same applies. I enjoyed all the tracks on the c.d. This is recommended to anyone interested in either artist.

Obviously both these women had many more good songs than what is on this disc. However, if I had to pick the top 5 of each one, this would pretty much be it. And of course if you like one of these rockers, you should like the other one. If you need a bigger fix, I suggest "Blondie's Greatest Hits", and Pat Benetar's "Best Shots". But for the price this is good stuff.

I heard this CD while in a record store in England. I was looking for some music to take along on a road trip and this CD was great. It has a blend of 80s through modern music with a cool electronic music undercurent. The verison of Pete Shelley's Homosapien(Dub) is great and reignited my love for the song. You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties by Jona Lewie is a fun beat with a cool affected monotone vocal. The big surprise is music from John Carpenter's film Assault on Precinct 13. While it isn't my favorite track it is bold and interesting. Trans X's Living in Video is a great track for parties and when friends are over.

All in all it was a varied and interesting CD that made our 10+hours of driving the English moors more interesting.

      This is the third installment of the BACK TO LOVE series from Hed Kandi. It is a nice retrospective of club hits from the late 80s and early 90s. The first disc is usually filled with club classics, while the second disc focuses more on hip hop and funkier tracks. While I wasn't in the clubs when these songs were being played, some of them I do remember from my youth, and either way it's just good music. Highlights include En Vogue's "Hold On", Ce Ce Peniston's "Finally", Frankie Knuckles "Your Love", and many more. The great thing is these are all the full length mixes.

      I bought this, my first volume of the hed kandi series, and while I'm thrilled to have the full length 12" mixes of many of these classics on CD, I can't overlook the fact that you can HEAR pops in the vinyl records that many of these songs were obviously mastered from for this compilation. Listen to this CD through headphones and you'll notice it much more at certain points. While it isn't the worst thing and it sounds like effort was made to clean up the sound quality, it makes me hesitant to buy another volume of this series. Why spend so much money for CD quality when all you're getting is vinyl quality recorded onto CD??? I could do that at home with my recordable CD player and my turntable...

      "Back to Love" is a double CD that affectionately looks back to the old school (1980's to early 90s) and delivers a generous serving of delectable early club hits. For a lot of labels, it's a great concept, but the execution sometimes results in advestised-on-TV compilations that have "K-tel" cheese written all over them. Fortunately, the selections on this disc are tasteful and will bring a smile to the face of any serious clubhead. Adeva's powerful house re-working of Aretha's "Respect" sounds even better today, and it's a reminder of the glory years when house was truly rooted in soul. Sterling Void's "It's Alright" (which Pet Shop Boys would later cover) appears, and the tragically out-of-print "Too Blind To See It" from Kym Sims (produced by Chicago's Steve "Silk" Hurley) is another highlight that stands out on the 70+ minute Disc 1. On the second disc, the tempo changes a bit, still offering a few disco jams but also flirting with r&b and hip-hop. Detroit's Inner City serves up a discocentric remake of Stephanie Mills' "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'," and Shannon's still slammin' 1980s "Let The Music Play" appears in its full length. For hip hop lovers, the classic "White Lines" will satisfy their crave, and Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire" still holds up as a disco stomper. As with virtually all Hed Kandi releases, the songs here aren't mixed, and many of them appear in their 12-inch extended versions. If you want a great collection of what great dance music used to sound like, you can't go wrong with these two CDs.

      I picked this up at a used CD shop and no wonder the person got rid of it! I am a huge Hed Kandi fan (they've saved my life musically). But I have to be frank, this really, really, really is an awful compilation. Out of the 24 tracks on this double CD compilation I only enjoyed 3 songs. Those are "Respect" by Adeva, "Passion of your passion " by Gat Decor and "Whatcha Gonna Do with my Lovin" by Inner City. The rest of the songs are simply R&B tracks from the late 80's early 90's (a period I loathed). Hed Kandi is a great lable but they have so much better compilations out there. Skip this one.
