la Nouvelle Scéne Française.......2006-07-18

I have been a fan of "world music" since before the phrase was coined, years and years, but never really explored French music until recently. Mainly because, unlike Spanish and Portuguese, I don't speak French. This collection did it for me, along with solo albums by Keren Ann, Coralie Clement and Benjamin Biolay. Most compilations leave a lot to be desired, but the "Le Pop" series is an exception, nearly every track holds its weight. Highlights of this compilation include Jérôme Miniére, Coralie Clement, Holden, Mathieu Boogaerts, Toma, Vincent Delerm with Irène Jacob,and Camille. A must for any decent French collection.

An exceptional compilation.......2005-01-17

I love music, but I know enough to avoid compilations since they're usually not that great. They lack a cohesiveness and with a big selection of artists, you're bound to hit some you don't like. Le Pop 2 is not your normal compilation. It's the stronger of the two compilations of French pop music by Le Pop Musik that I've heard so far. I'd never heard of any of the artists, and I have no idea if this is what constitutes popular music in France. But if it is, what lucky people the French are. On the whole, the songs are mellow, melodic, and have a slight electronic tendency, but nothing that gets in the way. The music is grounded in your standard instruments, but you'll also get drum machines and a nice glossy sheen over everything. And there is a striking cohesiveness to it. The singers sound alike sometimes, and a gentle mood sustains the whole album.

Le Pop 2 does everything a compilation should do. I've learned about some new favorite artists, and looked for other stuff by them. I'm looking forward to hearing Le Pop En Duo, the next compilation of French pop.

Masterpiece.......2006-08-18

Good vibes and rhythms, heavy loops and above all good subwoofer material. This album cost me more than i bargained for, cause i got fined twice for speeding whilst listening to it.
