... like a barren arctic tundra bathed in intense sunshine...

Product Description
Persistence Recordings presents its debut release in the form of a 4-track EP from Panouvre. Smooth, melodic downbeat influenced by dub and fooling around on synthesizers. Described as 'Mad Professor and Skinny Puppy collaborate on a soundtrack for a documentary on the Arctic Tundra.' With the release of 'EP', Panouvre shows off much slower, dub-oriented territory, but with trademark solid sub-bass rumbling through every track, and long, building synth melodies to keep things interesting. Perfect for the downtempo or dub club set, for the late night before a deadline, or for casual listening. File under Electronic, Dub, Experimental, Downtempo.

Radiohead's American follow-up to OK Computer is essentially a glorified single for "Airbag," the song that also opens the album, with six new tracks appended (including an instrumental). They're mostly cut from the same cloth as the album, but briefer and flinchier--Thom Yorke's voice, gentle and clear as it is, seems like it can barely push past waves of horror into audibility. Once again, they plumb a few Pink Floydian tricks--the tapes of not-quite-clear voices that open "A Reminder," the pacing, descending riff of "Pearly"--and, though none of the new tracks is quite up to the level of OK Computer (they could well be outtakes), they fit together into a short, despairing suite. --Douglas Wolk

5 out of 5 stars back in print?.......2007-07-04

One review mentioned paying $70 for this CD. If you are wondering why - this CD must have gone out of print for awhile.
A few years ago this CD could not be found under $30 used.

And it is an essential companion to OK Computer.

4 out of 5 stars A nice companion to "OK Computer.".......2007-04-29

I've always heard from many Radiohead fans about the quality of the B-sides being pretty good, and while I wanted to get a hold of the stuff, most of it was imports so I thought it was a sky high investment, if I were to do it. And I didn't get into Radiohead until a few years after even this compilation. And it's a great compilation, even if a little bit incomplete for some.

I really love OK Computer and was looking forward to the B-side. People who own that album already know the first track, "Airbag," which is Radiohead greatness, and with some excellent Thom Yorke lyrics, guitar effects and playing, and such. It's actually the song that inspired me to buy said album.

As for the B-sides, they aren't as good as that album, but I think it's far above average, even for B-sides. I really liked the instrumental "Meeting in the Aisle," as well as the others. The songs here are actually pretty catchy, particularly in "Palo Alto," the last track on the record. It's back in print after a long time. So no longer is it "limited edition" as Amazon.com lists. And at some places it is sold at a very good price; you can get it for roughly eight bucks at your nearest Best Buy.

Overall, a casual Radiohead fan may not want this, but if you're into the group already, I recommend it. And in comparison to the actual studio albums, I'd actually put it ahead of the last two LP's, as well as of course Pablo Honey (has moments but is scattershot).

Dear Amazon: "OK Computer" is the title of that album, and taking it out of my title makes no sense at all. Also, I apologize for price comparisons, although I'd either be a lot poorer or would own way less music if I never did such a thing.

2 out of 5 stars Save your money.......2007-04-25

Let me just start by saying OK Computer is one of my favorite albums ever. That level of creativity has rarely been approached by anybody. That being said, there is a reason these songs were not included in that album: it's because they're just not really that great. The material on "Airbag" just does not stand up to the OK Computer material.

Airbag, which incidentally happens to be the only track on OK Computer, happens to be the best song on this EP. Most of the others seem disorganized and disoriented... "Pearly" is a clear step down from the track that precedes it. "Polyethylene" is decent, but would still only make an average (at best) song on OK Computer.

If you already have all of Radiohead's material, go ahead and get this. But get the rest of it (with the obvious exception of Pablo Honey) first.

4 out of 5 stars Cheaper alternative for the US to obtain some of OK's b-sides..........2006-10-13

...But where are tracks like "Lull" and "How I Made Millions"? While they are definitely not Radiohead's greatest, I think they should have been included in this collection as well.

5 out of 5 stars Radiohead's teeth must be pretty pearly........2006-03-05

Airbag/How Am I Driving? is very similar to OK Computer, but still dabbles in some Bends-era guitars. The reason why this EP is an essential purchase is this: it contains the song "Pearly" which is definitely one of Radiohead's best tracks, up there with Idioteque and Paranoid Android.

An off-the-cuff curio for McLachlan's growing legion of fans. Recorded late-night and live at Pierre Marchand's Studio Nomade in the Laurentians, these loose, acoustic versions of songs off Fumbling Towards Ecstasy bring the artist to the fore and--like P.J. Harvey's 8-Track Demos--often deliver a stronger emotional punch than the album counterparts. "Plenty," "Elsewhere," and "Hold On" are shivery standouts, while the cover of Tom Waits's "Ol' 55&qiot; is good, sloppy fun. Jeff Bateman

5 out of 5 stars Life "Fumbling" -- truly great.......2007-07-07

Sarah's vocal and acoustic clarity on this cd are wonderful and phenomenal.

I have all of her work, and this is a jewel in my collection.

5 out of 5 stars strong and true.......2007-02-14

Do not get me wrong. This entire album is golden. To hear Sarah's songs the way Sarah wanted to play them, or to just mess around with them, is a gift. But I have not nor will I ever get over this version of Hold On. I first heard it as a freshman in high school and I was practically unable to breathe after hearing it. It is so beautiful, so quietly heartwrenching, that I just sat in silence after it was done and wanted to cry.
This album is fantastic. Hold On is beyond words.

    5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece.......2005-04-14

I bought this CD when it was first released and for many years it was my favorite CD (and I do mean Number One) out of my music collection. Over the last 10 years, only a couple of other CDs have come close matching the number of times I have played this. I don't understand why this is called an "oddity" by some reviewers. This was Sarah the way Sarah wanted to do those songs. I think they are even more beautiful and more emotional than on "Fumbling Towards Ecstacy", on which the production was influenced by others (not that they did anything bad on that great companion CD). I can't imagine anyone looking at this web page not loving this CD. To me it will always be Sarah's masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars The Freedom Sessions.......2005-01-01

Typical Sarah Mclachlan-perfect in every way, size, shape, and form. Nothing could have been better. It's a lovely movement from Fumbling (though FTE was gorgeous), and these songs all have a different edge. As always, 5/5, 5/5, 5/5...and so on.

Elsewhere: My first impression was the funky version of both Sarah and Elsewhere, if you can picture that. Really different from the first, but totally and awesomely cool. "I believe this is heaven to no one else but me."

Plenty: Overlapped voices in the background give this Plenty a sort of freaky sound. Not many instruments, but the voices provide the base really well. "I looked into your eyes, they told me plenty I already knew."

Mary: The piano is a lot more in depth on this version. It's so soulful I was in tears by the end. So moving. "Take her hand, she will lead you through the fire. Oh, and give you back hope, and hope that you don't take too much."

Good Enough: Sarah's voice in this is at some of its best. Quiet, yet strong. This song pulls you in and won't let you out. "It's not the wind that cracked your shoulder and threw you to the ground."

Hold On: Gorgeous and intense as always, with an added part at the end. "Now you're sleeping peaceful, I lie awake and pray that you'll be strong tomorrow..."

Ice Cream: Even more fun than normal. Sarah comments that she tried to make this more like her live performances. It makes you want to dance. "Your love is better than ice cream..."

Ice: This is the hard rock version of Ice. Really nice and intense. Ice takes on a whole new meaning after hearing this. "I don't like your tragic sighs, as if your god has passed you by."

Ol'55: A sit back and relax song that appeals to the memory. Sarah does this so well. "Well the sun's comin' up." It has a hidden version of Hold On which tends more towards groove. "... and love the light that brings a smile across your face."

Thank you, Sarah, for creating yet another CD I can't seem to stop listening to.

4 out of 5 stars lovely live feeling of early Sarah.......2004-12-29

I've been doing a little nostalgic CD searching tonight and have returned to Sarah, who I discovered in the mid-90s. I loved her!!! And I still love her voice and sound; and will buy a recent release. I haven't listened to her much in the past few years. Occasionally popping in a CD or *gasp* tape during a drive and singing along. She's a beautiful singer, songwriter, artist. Her sound has improved over the years, especially her voice. But the early work is excellent!. I remember buying this CD in high school after seeing her live...I listened to it non-stop. While this is not a live album, it captures a quality of Sarah's voice, style, and a feeling. Pretty much Sarah with an instrument: piano, drums, or a simple layering effect. If you don't own her CDs start either with something very recent or an early release ("Fumbling" is great; "Touch" is nice to visit after that CD to see the growth; see other review for better suggestions) ...they are all beautiful. But if you know Sarah's music, or have ever seen her perform a version of "Ice Cream" live and love that song and "Plenty" takes your breath away, this pared-down CD is one for you.

On this version I prefer: "Plenty": "Good Enough" which I think have both a bare-bones haunting quality and a slight complex layer of vocals. Even on my old computers, it moves me emotionally. I also love "Ice Cream" since I saw her perform it 3 times live...back before and during "Lilith Fair."

      5 out of 5 stars perfect.......2006-07-15

when i buy an e.p. i usually expect 1 maybe 2 good songs, a couple boring ones and basically something to snack on while waiting for the full length. and since they are only usually about 5 bucks, you cant go wrong. but all hallows is 12 minutes of the best afi material they ever released. while i guess its alot harder to make a perfect ep than a perfect album, this ep is perfect, every song on here is on my top ten favorite afi songs list. the sound of this album is slightly faster than black sails, but for the most part the style is very similar, except a little darker and creepier, hence all hallows. Alot of people say this sounds just like the misfits, not quite... i see the similarities, maybe fall children does a little. but seriously this is afi not the misfits. the ep starts with a creepy guitar riff that sets the mood immediatly. then it bursts into fall children; catchy, fast and energized. fall children was a fan song, and songs dedicated to fans are always great. then we go into a cover of the misfits halloween, fun song, probably the worst on the ep just because its not afi. The funny thing is that i think its better than the misfits version. The song is followed by spooky noises; it sounds like someone is strumming piano strings when you listen close, but it always makes me think of a haunted house. this goes on for a couple minutes, so it can get tiresome, but its cool, i think its a cool edition to the ep. then we get the boy who destroyed the world, some of the best lyrics afi ever wrote. this one is a little slower than the previous two, but probably better than the last two. last is totalimmortal, possibly afis best song. its the best one on here and one listen will confirm that for you. its fast, catchy, and magnificent. its by no way a cliche song, daveys vocals go all over the place. and he has something of a duet with jade who has a ghostly voice. When this ends, the only thing youll be thinking is "why didnt they write 8 more songs and make this a full length?" because 8 more songs of this calibur while may be immpossible, would make the best best album ever im pretty sure. so basically these are 4 songs that will stay with you forever, go get this, its just as good as any full length.

5 out of 5 stars This is an amazing little piece of punk rock........2006-07-14

Okay, so basically, this EP sounds like a Misfits album, only the songs intelligent and are better written. I'm not saying anything bad about the Misfits. I like The Misfits, but this is just better. The best song on here, in my opinion, has to be 'Fall Children'. I can listen to that one over and over again, and not get bored of it. I also really like their cover of 'Halloween', and 'The Boy Who Destroyed The World'. 'Totalimmortal' is alright, but it gets boring after a while. Overall, this is definately worth the 5 bucks I payed for it. If you're a fan of punk rock, you will really like this CD. If you're a fan of AFI's new stuff, you probably won't like this CD too much.

      5 out of 5 stars Not over-rated.......2007-02-23

People that are ordering this album are forgetting that fact that you are ordering an IMPORT cd. Needless to say, it comes from another country. Take the price increase into affect once you realize that fact. Album is wonderful and is NOT over-rated or overly pricey, contrary to popular belief.

5 out of 5 stars Even more genius!.......2007-02-19

Although I have downloaded the iTunes versions of every song on this CD, I didn't have the video. In fact, I didn't have a hard copy of the songs, which is why I ordered this CD.

Not to mention, the artwork and packaging is as brilliant as the "The Eraser." Good artwork on a CD always grabs my attention. Stanly Donwood's artwork for this CD series is captivating, none more so than his work for "The Eraser." If I could, I would have prints in my home. However, since his prints were limited, it's a loss I regret. It was too late by the time I discovered "Thom Yorke's" music.

Now that I own this CD, I can say without doubt all the songs are undeniably astonishing, and perhaps slightly different from the other "Eraser" EP's. The difference could be just my imagination - I'm not sure.

Whilst "Thom Yorke's" talent (and recording technique) maintain a grip on my imagination, I can't help wonder why some of these songs weren't part of "The Eraser" project itself. I'm thinking of songs such as "Jetstream," "Iluvya," "A Rat's Nest" and, "The Drunk Machine" from another EP.

Yet, I daren't carp. It would do me no good.

These songs are haunting, and play 'round and 'round in ones mind. They are recorded with remarkable precision over and above the attention paid to the smallest detail contained in them.

It follows for me to refer to the sequencing of this EP. Whomever sequenced this EP nailed it well. Other EP's with the same or similar songs sometimes can be a bit unbalanced. Since sequencing can make or break a project I find this is not the case for this project.

Those in to a degree of comparison among past recordings (and technique) by "Thom Yorke" and "Radiohead," bewilder me somehow. Such assessments make it difficult to understand any reason for drawing attention away from this CD. What one hears on these B-sides (if that's what they really are, as I consider them A-sides) is unparalleled artistry. Such artistry does not require vulgar flash. Glitz would be too much for "Yorke" - or "Radiohead."

I should think over the years, "Radiohead" and "Thom Yorke" fans (if that's what we are-, horrid word fan) can rationally forecast a varying degree of artistic expression after each excursion into a studio. Funnily enough, though, they never lose their established essence. With "Thom Yorke's" "Spitting Feathers" and "The Eraser" that is exactly what one gets, a different form of artistry - but one knows it is the work of "Thom Yorke." There is artistic skill on this CD (and "The Eraser") well beyond what one normally hears everywhere else these days.

As a classical music connoisseur, I have nonetheless, always been a "Zep" fan, as well as a fan of others in the same genre.

Even so, the work of "Thom Yorke" (and "Radiohead") fit a style of expression that is unique. "Thom Yorke" simply cannot be compared to anyone nor suppressed. Since "Thom Yorke" and "Radiohead" are new to me, there is unquestionably a wealth of imagination and inspiration in their entire catalog, which I'm reveling in. This speaks to the power of the right music in great motion pictures. In fact, the movie "A Scanner Darkly" introduced me to "Thom Yorke" and "Radiohead."

As a result, for me, these songs alone are well worth the coin. To be sure, this rare CD will (one day) cost three times as much from those who sell out-of-print rare LP's, rare CD's, and press packs.

Lastly, the video is marvelous. Although I don't excessively praise music videos often, I must say I like the "Harrowdown Hill" video. The imagery and subject matter is relevant. The video is a bonus for those who have only seen it online. I had only seen it once. Thus, I welcome this CD. It has everything music lovers want.

3 out of 5 stars Good music; poor video quality.......2007-02-07

This EP is very overpriced. Though I like the music tracks that are on it, it's just not worth the price. The quality of the video (as in the encoding, not the production) is so low that that doesn't add much value to the purchase either. I'd venture to guess you could find a higher-quality encoding of the video on bittorrent somewhere. This purchase is only for the most most hardcore fans and collectors.

5 out of 5 stars Worth it for True Fans.......2007-02-07

It's more from Mr. Yorke. Need I say more?

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but pricey........2007-01-14

Spitting Feathers is a fine little collection of 5 b-sides. One of them is a remix of "Harrowdown Hill", but the others are all brand new (although I assume they were available on Japanese singles or someplace). It makes for an interesting EP that does a good job of complementing The Eraser. There are a couple songs on here that I like better than those that made the LP cut. "Iluvya" is a silly idea, but it makes for a strangely endearing song. The remix of "Harrowdown Hill" is better than the original.

The only real negative about this collection is its price. I managed to find a used version for $5 at my local shop. It's a no-brainer at that price. At listprice, though, it's probably only worth it for hardcore Yorke fans.

this band is one of my favorites ones, and this Ep it's a good reason to know the music of this guys

2 out of 5 stars Not very exciting..........2005-04-25

I was disappointed with this CD. Doesn't seem to be any reason to have put it out. Most of the songs are on the first album and those versions are better. Not worth it...

3 out of 5 stars For Interpol fanatics only.......2004-05-13

I think some people's comments (like pitchforkmedia's) about the holdoverness of this title are a little over the top, as this is supposed to only be a french title, and is just here by import status. The main point of this title is the same as say the Cure's BBC ep released way back in the early 80's when they were still in their Boys Don't Cry stage, this is meant as a document of their Black Sessions session, the things tacked on it are there basically to make it a french single for Say Hello to the Angels with the Black Sessions on it. So in that light is it worth buying? Not unless you really loved Turn on the Bright Lights and can't wait for the next cd, or if you really want to hear the Black Sessions, then you'd be like me. I basically bought this because it was french, you may laugh at me, but I had just gotten back from france, and thought it'd be cool to have a french Interpol cd. However the Black Sessions were worth the 10 dollars I spent on this (believe me dont buy this from Amazon if you really want it), and hearing the song Specialist was cool as I haven't heard it before. I unlike most people don't feel like Interpol has been overhyped (now the strokes and yeah yeah yeah's are and with less good music than interpol) as they have the music to back up the write-ups. And thus I think this cd isn't just a holdover, it's mainly a document of the Black Sessions. As such you should only spend the pmney if you feel like that's enough to warrent the price. (and yes the sound is very quiet)

4 out of 5 stars You have to turn it up to 11 to hear, but still great!.......2003-10-27

Yeah, the volume on this little ditty is a bit quite and when i listen to it i have to crank the volume, but with the volume cranked, it sounds decent, so i really can't complain.
anywho, even though that all the songs have been released elsewhere, this is still a worthy recording. I am especially fond of "Specialist", it is quite stunning. I am also quite fond of this version. I would not purchase this unless you are a reasonalby die hard fan, it costs quite a bit because it is an import, and most non-interpol devotees would be disapointed by the sound quality. But for the true interpolee, this is a fantastic addition to your collection and i strongly recommend settling the black ep on your shelf next to turn on the bright lights.

      2 out of 5 stars Haphazard holdover.......2003-10-23

For over a year now, "Turn the..." has been my favorite cd & I have been eager for new material from Interpol. This release combines the NYC (demo) track (the only unique track on the UK NYC single), an album track (Say Hello to the Angels), and the tracks played on French Radio "Black Sessions". The poor quality of this recording & production is probably the reason behind why "Black Sessions" CD's don't rank up there with radio sessions from the UK (Peel, Radio 1) & US (KCRW). All tracks (except for the album track) have loud popping/crackling & sound as if they were recorded from vinyl. Overall, the tracks sound no better than the ones people taped (from the radio show) & uploaded to the internet shortly after its broadcast. Secondly, the indexing fades & cuts the live tracks individually (one time rather abruptly w/ a "pop" at the end), making it sound rather haphazard. Either including the entire live recording & then indexing the tracks, or using a tape of the radio w/ intros/segueways might have given this more of an EP/ consistent feel. Including the remix of Obstacle 1, the Peel sessions, Kcrw sessions or something else might have made this a more worthwhile stopgap til the next album. Otherwise, the tracks themselves are not played any differently then the album versions. Be forewarned, this CD is Copyright Controlled.

when i first felt the need for some against me!, i downloaded all the songs off of Reinventing Axl Rose. without knowing there were different versions, it turned out i downloaded all these ones (acoustic tracks) in place of the electic versions for these songs. well bassically Reinventing Axl Rose is one of my favorite albums of all, and due almost completely to the acoustic versions i stumbled upon. those tracks are simply fantastic. they're filled with raw pasion and energy, and without them, my musical tastes would have gone starved for something truely honest and fun.

I got this cd because the reviews looked great and i wanted a nice acoustic cd to just mellow out to. When i got the cd, i was shocked! The actual music is fine, however the singer is terrible. His voice is extremely raspy, and i cant stand to listen to him. I just thought i'd put my two sense in. I dont know if there this band's regular music is good, but ill say pass on their acoustic stuff.

you need to get this beautiful cd, get the lyrics down, and then go sing your passionate heart out at a show. in today's world, few bands have such rockin music and thoughtful lyrics too. i am partial to bands with radical politics, but with this band, it's not just their politics that make them so great, but their energy and love of playing.
