Album Description

One Cold Winter's Night was recorded on February 11th, 2006 at the historic Rockefeller Musichall in Oslo, Norway. Kamelot enlisted renowned film and video director Patric Ullaeus to chronicle the night's events. Arriving with him from Gothenberg, Sweden, Patric had a large crew of professionals and equipment including 18 cameras that would be used in and around the concert grounds. The title for the band's first DVD (based on an earlier Kamelot song title) was chosen long before the actual shoot. Ironically this winter turned out to be one of the longest and coldest in the country's history, with enormous amounts of snow and numerous chaos-causing blizzards. A very special thanks goes out to fans that had to wait in line before doors opened to the sold out show. We sincerely hope we managed to warm you back up!

must have 2 Disc set!.......2007-04-01

The only thing better than a live concert is access to live music all the time and Kamelot is flawless all throughout this 2 disc set. Brillant music, epic sound, and these tracks will definately get your blood pumping. These guys really pour every ounce of energy into thier music and it shows. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!

I bought both the DVD and CD. It's THAT good.
Many songs are actually more powerfull than the studio version. The selection of songs is also very good.

The DVD is sleek, with many cameras capturing the show. Very high quality.

Highly recommended for any Kamelot fan.

Great cd.......2007-01-31

If you like Kamelot, and progessive metal, you'll love this, Roy Khan's vocal are at the top of his game, and Casey Grillo's drumming is outstanding and it's all captured on disc for everyone to enjoy. I've been a big fan for quite a while, and this is one of the best live cd's that I have ever heard.

This is what you expect from some of the most down to earth rockers, you will find out there. They are committed to their craft and they do a wonderful job of executing it. Kawn's vocals, how he pours himself into every song, so much power and passion. Thomas's and Barry, if there were two gods of the strings, it would be theses guys, and Oliver, the haunting effects that roll from his keyboards, and Casey one of the most talented drummers its been my pleasure to see perform. These guys bring so much energy and power to each and every song they perform, and if you think this disk is something you should see them live, but if you can't grab a copy of the DVD it is well worth it, I bought both. :)

Khan at his best!.......2006-12-28

This live CD is just brilliant. The vocals are perfect and the guests included are pretty awesome too. The band plays most of their songs concerning Ariel's story. If you like Kamelot, you must buy this! And if you haven't heard them yet this might be a good start.
The DVD recording of this same concert is exceptional too, so I recommend buying it.

Ensemble Galilei's music is lilting, elegant and unexpected!.......2002-11-29

With their soulful playing and artful, sometimes even ephemeral arrangements, the six women of Ensemble Galilei convey a rare depth of emotion. In the insert notes, gamba player Carolyn Ann Surrick describes their creative process: "[In making this recording, we engaged in]...a kind of work that is so focused and intense that years can go by in one afternoon... Extraordinary music-making requires trust... [We] live for the times when the only thing that exists right then is the music--when the instruments are speaking as if we don't exist, and they are having their own conversation." Thank you, Ensemble Galilei, for allowing the rest of us the privilege of coming along for the ride! It's simply delectable. This chamber ensemble, featuring fiddle, harp, gamba, oboe, pipes and percussion, can also be heard on their other Telarc release, "From the Isles to the Courts", and "The Mystic and the Muse: Celebrating 600 Years of Women in Music", on the Dorian label.

Sheer beauty, as a lover of English music I found this to be one of the most beautiful of all Shakespearean albums. Such harmony, such subtlety, one wishes that the gentle night will never stop.

Ensemble Galilei provide some excellent arrangements of English renaissance compositions. I believe that John Playford (English Dancing Master) fans will be particularly satisfied with the renditions presented here. It is very unfortunate that E.G. did not provide more arrangements from such early music sources. Some of E.G.'s own compositions seem very weak and not in the renaissance spirit of the rest of the CD. Nonetheless, this CD is highly recommmended.

I found this album to be solid. Very sweet, but not afraid to use percussion which makes it livelier and more fun. I adore the quiet, peacefulness of the music and the flawless execution of these renaissance songs.

Visualizing Beauty.......2000-08-20

I recently had the good fortune to direct a performance of King Lear--the ENTIRE five acts, in a community theatre, non-profit setting. I used twenty-four fully committed non-actors, who for the love of the ideas, participated in this performance. The first and main challenge that I faced was, how do I go "behind" the words, and invoke the right emotions, etc., to give these actors the range and tools needed for an effective, powerful performance? Critical to this performance was the beauty and brilliance of this recording, which I used throughout the various scenes of the play. This helped the performers tremendously, creating the different tapestries in the mind of the Bard. In short, this work is real genius, that I was so happy that I stumbled across. I am now putting in our performance programs, along with our most heart-felt thanks to E.G., the name of the recording and I have copies from Telarc to sell at each performance!

Great Holiday CD.......2001-12-14

This CD is great if you are looking for relaxing, enjoyable Christmas music. I am neither a guitar player nor a musician, but this has become my favorite Holiday CD. If you often find listening to carols unpleasant because the vocalists' styles interfere with the music, purchase this and also the "Christmas" CD. No jarring high notes or chipmunks here, just soothing music.

Ed is truly one of the very gifted instrumentalist of our time. His arrangements and precision playing is pure delight. All guitarist will find much inspiration in his quality work...the non-guitarist will find pure joy in the great sound of XMAS coming from the Ed's six-string and twelve-string guitars. I look forward to XMAS just so I can break out this and his previous CD. Beautiful music.

A wonderfully complete overview of Baroque secular music!.......2002-04-22

I picked this up in a bargain bin for a song and counted my blessings! I am a Baroque music fiend, with a large collection of Harmonia Mundi discs, but up until now I hadn't purchased any HM box sets. Many of my favourite Harmonia Mundi artists are featured on the five discs: Andreas Scholl, Alfred Deller, Dominique Visse, Rene Jacobs, Bernarda Fink, and Jennifer Larmore. Each disc covers a different theme: The Madrigal (disc one), The Birth of the Opera (disc two), England in the 17th Century, featuring works by Byrd, Dowland, Blow, and Purcell (disc three), A Century of French Opera, which showcases works by Lully, Charpentier, and Rameau (disc four), and The Reign of the Opera Seria, with contributions from Vivaldi, Handel, and Graun (disc five). The only thing I would have wished for would have been more opera selections from Handel (Rodelinda or Rinaldo for example). This is an excellent, very complete overview of the rise and evolution of Baroque secular music (the liner notes are very complete and deserve an A+). Harmonia Mundi has also released two additional "Pathways of the Baroque" box sets, one of instrumental music and one of Baroque religious music. If you are a Baroque fan like myself and you have the time and money, buy all three. It is a worthy investment, and the box sets offer a wide selection of artists, styles, and composers.

A wonderful Christmas CD!.......2001-12-25

This CD evokes such a wonderful sense of a long ago time...you may feel you have been transported back to the time of the Renaissance! Two songs in particular deserve special mention. The first is the tital song, To Drive the Cold Winter Away. It is a beautiful, if not very familiar, carol that is unlike any other I have heard. The second is the tradtional God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen that truly sounds like it might have in the Middle Ages. It is a haunting rendition of a lovely carol.

It is not an easy CD to find, but it is well worth seeking out and buying!

I've heard this album on the radio and on a friends sound system and now that I have it also it's just gotten even better. This recording is a collection of classical music with a slight flavor of the middle ages. It contains both familiar and unfamiliar melodies all presented in a very enjoyable format. All together a very nice collection.
