Until its shallow posturing gets to be just too much, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too is fodder for a decent game of Spot the Influence. Singer/songwriter Gregg Alexander's admittedly well-crafted project is indebted to the vaguely funky pop-rock of World Party. But despite airplay for the single "You Get What You Give," he isn't tuneful enough to make his empty social pronouncements stick as more than fleeting entertainment, and when he starts dissing his hooky betters Courtney Love and Beck as "fakes," there's little to do but laugh. At him, not with him. --Rickey Wright

Not a one-hit wonder.......2007-07-16
Much more than "You Get..."
This is a modern pop classic.
"Ramsey's is the best".......2007-06-15
I thought a little Nacho Libre to start it off would be good. Anyway this album is so good, I am pissed they disbanded, I hope some day he does another album.
A Masterpiece!!!.......2007-04-22
I purchased this CD when it first came out and still listen to it almost 8 years later. Their sound is unique and simply put, this album rocks! Too bad they decided to disband. With music like this, these guys could have become SUPERSTARS! You will not be disappointed!
A+++++

Each song a masterpiece.......2007-02-24
Like many people who bought "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too", I was drawn in by the hopeful and inspiring "You Get What You Give"... I've had this CD for nine years now and it's one I could listen to over and over again and never tire of. From the jubilant "Mother We Just Can't Get Enough" to the lovely "Crying Like A Church On Monday", every song is worth repeated listens. Standouts include the aforementioned hit single; the insanely catchy "Jehovah Made This Whole Joint For You"; "Someday We'll Know"- a beautiful, moody tune which has been covered quite a bit considering its relative obscurity; the offbeat, almost experimental sounding title track, with its bizarre acoustic guitar riff, wholly improvised lyrics and trippy keyboards; and "Flowers" because of the contrast between the chilled out verse and the explosive, unorthodox but nonetheless gorgeous chord progression used in the chorus. One of my favorite things about "Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too" is the heavy use of piano- it's more of a lead instrument in this case, with guitars providing background. It's a shame Gregg Alexander decided to dissolve this project because the world needs more music like this.

Completed by George Harrison's son Dhani and Jeff Lynne (Traveling Wilburys, Cloud Nine) after the ex-Beatle succumbed to a long illness in November 2001, Brainwashed is a bittersweet reminder of the myriad contradictions that made Harrison such a compelling figure. One of the most warm, melodically rich albums in a career pockmarked by personal frankness and professional indifference in its latter years, Harrison finds rewarding ways here to reconcile bitter assessments of the material world (the title track) with more fleshly concerns, as his jaunty take on the Arlen-Koehler chestnut "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" ably demonstrates. Pushing the singer's distinctive dry voice to the forefront, and with Harrison's trademark slide guitar riffs as sinewy as ever, Lynne's showcase production is mostly spot-on and refreshingly restrained, while Dhani brings his own fresh, touchingly personal insights to the record. He double-tracked his own voice onto an old recording of his father chanting the traditional "Namah Parvati" and appended it as the album's spiritual benediction, a touching reminder that while musicians come and go, music can truly embody their spirit forever. --Jerry McCulley

Last effort.......2007-07-24
What sort of album would you expect from an all-time great recording artist who knew that this was going to be his last album?
This is that album. If you like George Harrison, then you owe it to yourself to listen to this. "Brainwashed" is George Harrison in his final essence, when he knew that he would only get one last chance.
Brainwashed.......2007-06-04
The debate as to which George Harrison album is the best is a debate that will rage until trumpets sound. Honestly, I have not heard all of the man's works, but from what I have heard, this Brainwashed album is mighty hard to beat.
"Any Road" begins this final George Harrison chapter with enthusiasm, and 'plenty of that guitar' as the man sayes. Nothing new or extravagant, just the good old kind of song that George was best at: sweet and simple. Next comes my favorite, "P2 Vatican Blues". Sounds like an old rock n roll song from the beginning of the era, but Harrison sings the lyrics in his own recognizable way and this track-too-short becomes an instant favorite. Sort of one of those unknown pieces that nobody knows about but which is ultimately always better that the greatest hits. "Pices Fish" is calm and seems contemplative to me. Among other favorites is #6 "Marwa Blues" which is totally instrumental and pleasant, and ukulalea laden "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea". "Stuck Inside a Cloud" is also very accomodating for George's unique voice.
On the whole, there could never be a better ending chapter to George Harrison's prolific life of music. A fine farewell if ever there was one, and for such a cheap buy, its just too good to pass up. I would suggest it even to novice Harrison listeners. Enjoy it forever.
Excellent last album.......2007-03-25
George Harrison's premature death due to cancer was a great loss to the music world. The lyrics of his last album (CD) is full of thoughts related to his Buddhism believes of transcendence, and show his strong link to this religion. I believe this album shows a man that has not only accepted his fate, but also points to the fact that this life is only temporary. This is certainly one of, if not the best, of his albums. Every song is great, and the lyrics are superb. This is a must have album for fans of George Harrison, and for anyone that wants a great album (CD) that shows the talent of this great artist.
"Give me plenty of that guitar!".......2007-02-23
I've been "The Beatles"' fan since my early teenage years. After the "Fab Four" went their separate ways, I've come from admiring Paul McCartney the most to John Lennon and then, I discovered George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass" and he's been the God for me since. The Quiet Beatle, "the Dark Horse" with his voice, his lyrics, his melodies, and his distinctive slide guitar style which "attracts me like no other" musician - I can't even describe what his guitar does to me. Listening to the favorite songs where George's guitar gently weeps, smiles, meditates, and talks to me personally makes me feel like standing by the ocean during the warm sunny spring day. The vibrating flowing sounds of his chords break down to the thousands golden patches of sunlight that reflect from the water surface and radiate in the air filling it with magic glow. This glow seems to reach my very soul bringing serene joy or bright sorrow.
"Brainwashed", sadly George Harrison's posthumous project is an excellent album with all 12 songs warm, sparkling, and melodious, some of them have been among my all time favorites since I bought the CD when it was first released: "Rising Sun", "Marwa Blues", "Never Get Over You", the opening song "Any Road", and of course, the one which gave the album its title, "Brainwashed". I have not listened to the CD for some time and I have been re-discovering it for the last few days. I can't get enough of it. I keep listening to the songs in my car, on my way to work and back and since it takes me 40-45 minutes of driving one way, I am able to enjoy the favorite songs over and over again. They are the songs about love, about the roads that take you anywhere, the journey of self-discovery, the look at the past and sorrow of losses - everything is in George's last album, his parting gift to us, to me. It is his last smile at the sun that he worshipped and his quiet and dignified acceptance of inevitable end, and knowledge that "The soul does not love. It is love itself/It does not exist. It is existence/It does not know. It is knowledge itself."
"Brainwashed" is one of the best albums of my favorite musician whose guitar will never stop gently talking to me.
Namasté George.......2007-02-17
George Harrison's BRAINWASHED is a remarkable accomplishment, especially in light of his personal circumstances during these sessions. This is an album that will not be forgotten any time soon. Mature introspection, melodic playfulness and anguish, humor and pain-- the stuff of life. It's all here, in what amounts to a brilliant musical summation, lovingly given to all. A profound final work. Highest recommendation.

Saved his Best for Last.......2007-06-08
This album is a must for all Harrison fans, and deserves a listen even by those who are not. His talent and spirituality are up front in the music and lyrics, which are mostly explorations of Harrison's feelings about life and God, with a few surprises in the form of more whimsical offerings like "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", and the bluesy "Rocking Chair in Hawaii", which point to his versatility as an artist. The chant performed by Harrison and Dhani, his son, at the end of the title track is especially poignant. The album released posthumosly and finished by Jeff Lynne and Dhani is a testament to a musician and man who was much loved by his family, friends, and fans.
Harrison's greatest solo work.......2005-08-02
I have been a Beatlemaniac since age 5, when my parents gave me my first Beatles Album (The Beatles Again; 1970). I purchased this album on recommendation from a fellow Beatlemaniac. I have listened to this album virtually every day for a year and a half. George left it all on the vinyl, and most lovingly. Thank you George, for this musical treasure.
3.5 stars - a fitting end to his career.......2004-01-11
Brainwashed (2001.) George Harrison's tenth post-Beatles solo album. Also his final album.
After George Harrison reissued his classic album All Things Must Pass, rumors spread that he was recording a new album. Unfortunately, he died of brain cancer on November 29, 2001, and these rumors were forgotten. But, in 2002, these rumors were turned into solid fact - the new album, Brainwashed, was finally released. Harrison's Traveling Wilburys bandmate and former Electric Light Orchestra frontman Jeff Lynne helped to complete the album following his death. How does Harrison's final album measure up? Read on for my review of Brainwashed.
The album kicks off with the pop-rocker Any Road. This song was a very good choice for the album starter, because it's nothing short of excellent. My personal favorite track on the album is the second one, P2 Vatican Blues (Last Saturday Night.) This is classic-styled rock as only Harrison could do, and it's a shame this song will probably never get the proper credit. The ultra-slow and melodic Pisces Fish comes next. Once again, this is a very good track. Harrison even serves up an instrumental, which is entitled Marwa Blues. It's a shame he didn't do more instrumentals, because this one really captures his ability to make music well. Also, as you may have heard Paul McCartney say in the Concert For George CD/DVD, Harrison was a fan of the ukulele. And in The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea, it's the main instrument. It's a "happy" little tune that is quite good. The album closes with the title track, Brainwashed. This track has some good lyrics in that they are both funny and will make you think, but unfortunately, the lyric delivery is poor due to Harrison's diminishing health. That's a shame, because the song had true potential. Still, it's a good song despite this. Overall, this is a pretty good album.
Brainwashed was a very good way for Harrison to end his musical career. However, if you're just getting into Harrison's music for the first time, this isn't that good of a starting point. All Things Must Pass should be the first Harrison album any new fan buys. Also, there is a special edition version of this album which features a bonus "making of" DVD, as well as some other little features not included with this, the standard edition. If you're a Harrison die-hard, get the special version. If you just want the album for the music, get the standard version. George Harrison was a musical making genius - may he rest in peace.
Nearly his best job.......2003-09-24
I am a Beatle-fan and specially a Harrison-Fan since I remember. Hear this record is a pleasure, it feels like George, personally finish all the songs, thank you Dhani, thank you Jeff, you have done a beautiful job. "Any road" and "Beatween devil..." are two of the best Harrisongs I've heard. This version is a little more expensive than the CD, but all the things it includes are worthy.
It's really good spend your money in stuff like this!
His Best Work.......2003-09-05
I was floored by this music, really moved and excited. The more I listened, the better it sounded. I played it over and over, almost continuously, for months. Harrison was a far greater musician and composer than most give him credit for...

Harrison's last stand.......2004-06-03
Brainwashed (2002.) George Harrison's tenth solo album.

Unfortunately, he died of brain cancer on November 29, 2001, and these rumors were forgotten. In addition to the standard version of this album, there is a special edition version available. The tracklists of both releases are the same, but the special edition includes a "making of" DVD, a guitar pick, and a ton of other little bonuses. If you're a die-hard fan, shell out the extra cash and get the deluxe version, but if you're just a regular-level fan of his, you'll be fine just getting the regular one.
Brainwashed was a very good way for Harrison to end his musical career. However, if you're just getting into Harrison's music for the first time, this isn't that good of a starting point. All Things Must Pass should be the first Harrison album any new fan buys (don't bother with the so-called "Best of George Harrison" that covers from 1965-1975 - that compilation isn't very good.. George was a musical making genius - may he rest in peace.
WOW.......2004-04-23
Beautiful, eloquent, moving. A true work of art. "All Things Must Pass" comes first but this is a close second. RIP dear George.
Brain washed, dryed and soothed.......2003-01-02
"Brainwashed" is a fitting coda to the great, yet sublime, musical talents of George Harrison. Unlike anything you'll hear in contemporary music-land, "Brainwashed" is infused with spritiually tinged melodies, sly lyrics and "plenty of that guitar". All the songs are excellent and connect with the listener in a subtle way. My favourites, besides the radio-friendly "Any Road", "Stuck inside a cloud", "P2 Vatican Blues" and "Brainwashed" include a haunting paen to spiritual awakening "Rising Sun" and the hymnlike ballad "Pisces Fish". George's gorgeous signature slide guitar-playing is featured throughout. This album is a must. Go out and get "Brainwashed".
Stuck Inside a Cloud.......2002-12-15
Here it is folks, the last officially recorded gem from the last ex-Beatle that meant a damn, and guess what...It's ACTUALLY GOOD.
George Harrison's "BRAINWASHED" is his first solo record in 15 years (since 1987's "CLOUD NINE"), and while it also carries the stigma of being another posthumous album in a sea of "last" albums, it has none of the "finish it off, slap it out for christmas" characterizations that plague many other releases. BRAINWASHED was lovingly completed by George's son, Dhani, and his longtime collaberator/friend JEFF LYNNE. The trio together have crafted an album of such beauty and integrity that, BRAINWASHED is the career bookend to Harrison's ALL THINGS MUST PASS released over 30 years ago. The elder Harrison confronts his own mortality on songs like "Pisces Fish", "Looking For My Life", "Rising Sun" and "Stuck Inside A Cloud", and embraces all life on "Any Road" whilst simultaneously criticising the material lust of the western civilization on "Brainwashed" the record's title track. All the trademark Harrison elements are here; The chiming guitars; the liquid leads; the sardonic lyrics; the gorgeous harmonies; and yes...the Hindu mysticism. Speaking of material lust in the western civilzation...buy this disc already!!!

Album Description
After breaking the charts with 'Loneliness' the mighty Tomcraft is back to wreck havoc on your eardrums with 'Brainwashed'! If there's one thing that Tomcraft (aka Thomas Bruckner) doesn't lack it's inspiration - from making a tune out of inboard flight programs to ringtones - you name it, Tomcraft is trying to squeeze a squelchy acid line in there somewhere! 'Brainwashed' is no exception. It's the second single form his 2003 album 'Muc'. Includes 3-non album versions - Radio Edit, Club Mix & DJ Choose & F's That Mucho Remix. Data Records.
