4 out of 5 stars a floydian wedding.......2007-04-19

I was searching everywhere for a way to include Pink Floyd in my very traditional wedding. Instead of walking down the aisle to "Here Comes the Bride", I'm using this version of "Comfortably Numb". I love this CD, but should warn you not to expect the "mind trip" that was Pink Floyd. And yes I am a huge Pink Floyd fan. This is a CD you could put on at dinner at your grandmother's and have her think it is beautiful. Worth giving a chance.

2 out of 5 stars Don't Expect Pink Floyd.......2006-02-08

I enjoy string quartets and looked forward to this. Whereas Mozart, Beethoven and other classical or romantic composers are the masters of quartets due to their counterpoint and fugue, Pink Floyd music does not translate into string quartets. There is no power here, no dynamics; all necessary to Pink Floyd music. I kept wanting some electrification! The piano is capable of power, but not allowed to sound off in this recording and only provides an accompaniment to the mellow strings. It was boring. Does not have the complexity of the masters to maintain interest. Go to the classics with all their structure to enjoy string quartets for listening pleasure. Or, this could be a nice change for background at a dinner or reception where it's not cool to blast the speakers with real Pink Floyd.

5 out of 5 stars A must have........2005-10-23

Pink Floyd is my favorite band, but this is my favorite CD! The quality of the music is excellent. Even if you are not a Pink Floyd fan, this is still an excellent CD.

1 out of 5 stars Just awful.......2005-06-15

I am an avid collector of all things Pink Floyd, including tribute albums. Of course none of them live up to the real thing, but this 'tribute' really does a terrible disservice to their music. For something of this ilk, go with either the Symphonic Pink Floyd "Us & Them" or the Royal Philharmonic Tribute. Only buy this one if you own EVERY other tribute CD ever made for Pink Floyd's music.

1 out of 5 stars Suck.......2004-07-12

Well, poor forgery of Pink Floyd. Just slight resemblence of
past Pink Floyd.

Camp New York disco merchants covering serious prog specialists Pink Floyd!! Sounds horrendous, but thankfully 'Comfortably Numb' by the Scissor Sisters is a glam-stomp monster of a track. The fun loving, feisty fivesome update Floyd's classic rock into a floor-filling, booty-shaking, disco anthem. The title track is backed with 'Comfortably Numb' (Fatboy Extended Mix), 'Rock My Spot' (Crevice Canyon), & 'Comfortably Numb' (Video). Polydor. 2003.

5 out of 5 stars I dig the camp disco that is Comfortably Numb.......2006-05-29

This track is not the best on Scissor Sistors' debut album (but then what a killer debut album!) but it is an enjoyable song. The discofication of such a depressing Floyd tune brings a smile to my face every time. For those bent out of shape that the Scissor Sistors cover somehow makes a mockery of or insults Pink Floyd or in anyway diminishes the original version you should relax a bit. If you dislike songs that are not classic rock, then just listen to classic rock radio and keep away from top 40 or disco. If you think that the original has somehow been tarnished, dust off your copy, and give it a listen. I am betting it sounds just like it did before the Scissor Sisters covered it. :)

    4 out of 5 stars 1337est Fans=teh suck.......2005-04-07

Comftorably Numb is a great song and you would be hard pressed to find someone who denies this, so I understand (and agree) that there is a certain expectation whenever anyone attempts to work with this song. But just as the original is great/classic music, so is this remix by the Scissor Sisters(though, to be fair it's only great music and not classic like the original). So don't listen to all these elitest fans who look down their nose at anything remotly different than the original.

5 out of 5 stars put away the pink floyd bias.......2005-03-22

well believe it or not, i had never heard the original version of comfortably numb by Pink Floyd, so i wasnt biased.(didnt grow up listening to that sort of music)

i personally love this BeeGees/Blondie tinged disco track. its all about the fun.

if you can divorce yourself that its a cover version, its a pretty great track on its own.

1 out of 5 stars Makes me want to stab my ear drums out with an ice pick........2005-02-18

I really like Scissor Sister's self titled album. Songs like "Take Your Mama" and "Mary" and their respective remixes will have me coming back.

That said, this utter piece of trash is bad enough by itself, but the fact that it's a cover is an insult to all that is Floyd. It's like Scissor Sisters sat down and tested out different annoying voices until they found one sufficiently annoying and grating enough to knock Syd Barrett into an even deeper level of insanity.

For a great cover that does PF right, check out Easy Star All Star's Dub Side of the Moon.

5 out of 5 stars Irony at its finest!.......2004-12-12

I only just heard this track on Saturday Night Live tonight, like a previous reviewer, but I am in love with it. Everyone here has picked up on the Bee Gees vibe, but nobody has mentioned the huge nod to Cerrone's "Supernature" in the beginning of the song. Does nobody pick up on the sheer, blissful irony of this song? Everyone seems to be missing the mark here, or maybe I am just interpreting it differently than everyone else here so far. Pink Floyd are undoubtedly one of the best bands ever, but that doesn't mean they should be this sacred cow never to be touched, either, and I actually consider myself a huge fan of everything from Syd Barrett's early material through to the later Floyd.

To put it bluntly, Pink Floyd's original version of Comfortably Numb is a track I can't listen to unless I'm in a certain frame of mind, because it is sure to depress me to no end, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It's a classic and nobody denies this. However, the fact that this cover can make such a well-known, depressing song a danceable bit of retro disco fluff I actually want to play over and over again... it really blows my mind. The fact that they were even able to conceive of meshing the lyrics of Pink Floyd with Cerrone's "Supernature" and the sound of the Bee Gees is simply amazing to me. Anyone who covers "Comfortably Numb" is knowingly putting themselves up for ridicule by the legions of fans of the original song. It's one of those classics that is so sacred to Pink Floyd fans that I honestly doubt anyone could do it justice in their eyes without keeping predictably close to the original.

Count me in as a fan of this cover. They really brought something entirely different to the table with this single, not just another warmed over, boring, safe rehash. This single took brass ones to make, that's for sure.

2 out of 5 stars cool idea, but fails to deliver.......2004-09-03

it's as though the bee gees and the pointer sisters got together to cover this classic track, and although it's weird, and i like weird, it just doesn't grab me. and unsurprisingly, the fatboy slim remix is uninspired. it's worth buying if you're a collector of bizarre covers (which is why i got it), but if you're looking for quality glam (non-disco variety), my vote goes to 'the darkness': _permission to land_, especially the tracks "growing on me" and "i believe in a thing called love".

    5 out of 5 stars Scissorhood Rules.......2004-08-18

A few people seem to hate this reworking of Pink Floyd's song, but it is a perfect update. Disco and a song about drug use. It's hysterically ironic and amazingly done. These guys are the best musicians to come around in a LOOOOOONG time

    2 out of 5 stars worth a download.......2004-08-11

Disco is terrible, and trying to cover the best band ever with very gay disco beats is abominable. It will please gays and hipsters, but that's about it. Chorus almost unlistenable, unless you happen to like the Bee Gees (shudder). I will give it merits for fantastic production value, but of all the annoying remixes, none comes close to being as good as the timeless Floyd classic.

5 out of 5 stars Thats what I am talkin about!.......2004-07-08

Okay boys and girls past the age of 35, this is it. The same fun we had with Elton John, Sweet etc.. Funky British rock. If you don't feel good after hearing take your mama out I don't think there is much hope for you. I blew my teenage sons out of the den when I played this one real loud. Give it a try. I don't think you will be dissappointed. (if you are you take life much too seriously)

    5 out of 5 stars Complete genius!!!!!!!.......2004-04-22

This is the first track from the remixing group known as Scissor Sisters and it is a work of complete genius. Coming off their steller remixes of "Good Boys" for Blondie and "Flamboyant" by Pet Shop Boys I decided to try their single for myself. It is a dance remake of the totally boring Pink Floyd. This version has a male/female falsetto vocal and reminds me of "Supernature" by Cerrone in that it is genderbending dance music at it's best. The last two mixes:Paper Faces and Hughes & Spier are mostly vocal dubs but tooooo good. The best mix for me is the Fatboy Slim mix. Excellent and full vocals. The listing is:
    1- Album Mix(4:25)
2- Fatboy Slim Extended Mix (5:01)
    3- Paper Faces Mix(8:25)
    4- Hughes & Spier Mix(6:58)
The full cd is also really good. Hopefully Scissor Sisters will continued to put out great music for themselves and remixes for others. A++++++++ .
