Like the Beatles' The Beatles 1, this rundown of Stevie Wonder chestnuts is merciless in cutting a huge list of classic tracks down to a single disc's worth of the most recognizable. Anyone who's treasured even one or two of these songs and yet never bought a Wonder record will be more than pleased with the acquisition of The Definitive Collection. These records continue to ring with importance and history, but more important, all except two or three remain fresh and capable of surprising even veteran fans. Those listeners may note, though, that Wonder is among the few performers who could release a retrospective containing 15 No. 1 R&B hits and still invite the complaint that the album felt incomplete--not least in explaining how the man transformed himself from a multitalented teenage hitmaker into the funk-pop visionary of Talking Book, Innervisions, and Songs in the Key of Life. --Rickey Wright

some of the songs I had not heard. But my favorite song was on this cd so I purchased it.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Stevie.......2007-07-09

This is the essential collection of Stevie Wonder. This CD provides a great cross section of the many talents of Stevie Wonder from his early days to his experiments with funk and jazz. Nearly every song sounds different in style and form because of the breadth and depth of SW's career. Great addition to the CD collection of you're a Stevie fan and you want a single representation of his fantastic career.

5 out of 5 stars How high can we rate an artist?.......2007-07-01

You know, with Mr. Wonder we reach for superlatives and we slap them down on paper and looking back on it we realize that the meaning of our impression is deeper yet. Listening to this retrospective of his best hits I was dazzled at how many there were, how many I remembered, how many years ago it all started and how the purity just carries on. While there is a substantial pool of anger, resentment and rage amongst African Americans and many choose to vent their spleen in their music, Stevie Wonder chose a different path. Perhaps it is just a reflection of the love in his being, but his music always keeps pointed to a positive message, even when he is lamenting the scourge of ghetto life.

This master musician, singer, songwriter and story teller has no peer who eclipses his place. He has given us funk so hot you just have to get up and gyrate on the floor lest you fall off your chair. He has given us love songs so tender that dozens of other singers have sung them to great acclaim for their own careers. It is not an exaggeration to say that with this genius, his reach has never extended beyond his abilities. They go hand in hand, his ability to manifest his deepest creativity is unimpeded. A person cannot be without this compilation and say that they have surrounded themselves with the best of American Afro funk, jazz and pop. It only remains for us to wait for more music to fill up the already substantial opus that he has created. A greater joy in music is hard to come by. Essential.

It's a little hard to take Rod Stewart seriously when, on the first track of this third installment in his Great American Songbook series, he sings ruefully about his love life being "lean" ("Embraceable You"). But otherwise, Stardust...Volume III is as note-for-note solid as its predecessors--a cozy-up-to-the-fire treat that's also a pleasant reminder of these songs' staying power. "S'Wonderful" settles on the ears winningly, and Stewart's scratchathon voice scalpels the cobwebs off of "Isn't It Romantic" in a way that compels the average listener to reconsider thinking it dopey. In addition, the parade of high-wattage pals recruited to pitch in continues here, resulting in a couple of must-hear combinations. Eric Clapton delivers a rather un-Clapton-like guitar solo on "Blue Moon" and Stevie Wonder blows harp like he means it on "What a Wonderful World," but it is the duets--"Baby It's Cold Outside" with the unsinkable Dolly Parton and "Manhattan" with the indomitable Bette Midler--that the dazzle most. --Tammy La Gorce

I have played this cd over and over and enjoy it so much. It is wonderful for those of us who know those songs and just enjoy beautiful music. Just nice to hear lovely music once again.

5 out of 5 stars Rod Stewart Revisited.......2007-05-07

A nostalgic trip to the romantic past. Who would ever think Rod Stewart of "Hot Legs" fame could do such justice to these "Oldies but Goodies"?

There is only 1 ROD STEWART and this album WILL NOT DISAPPOINT his fans! AWESOME! TIMELESS!

1 out of 5 stars If works once - do it over and over and over...........2007-03-05

I really like this music! Truly! And I'm only 25... It scares me that the ones who are gonna open "my generation" to this music are Rod Stewart & Westlife!
The choices of songs are good and the orchastration on the firts 2 are more the okey. But his torn old tired voice over these beautiful musical settings just doesn't do them justice. And why bring in Dolly Parton & Cher? They're both fantastic singers but jazzsingers they're NOT!
Why buy this when there's an limitless world of original jazz singers/musicians to choose from? It's just beyond me!
If you still want someone contemporaray - stick to Natalie Cole, Madeleyne Peyroux or my favourite: Stacey Kent (check her out - you WONT regret it!!!)
Back to Rod: The last effort (number 4 in the series) was so hastily put together the tracklist isn't even correct. I could just see him: "Alright people! I have an hour to record this, so just gimme the mic so I can get back to chasing women! How many millions is this cd gonna make me?! Really!? Great! We'll make another next month! Just throw something together - they'll buy anything!"
No - stick to the originals people!

Songs in the Key of Life (1976) was the highest high point of Stevie Wonder's career. More sprawling than Innervisions and Talking Book, this two-LP-plus-EP was also less of a consistent stunner than either of those masterworks. That Songs retains an enormous amount of visionary relevance, though, is demonstrated not only in Coolio's borrowing of "Pastime Paradise" as a template for "Gangsta's Paradise," but in the cold-as-ice synthesized string quartet of "Village Ghetto Land." This is Stevie, so naturally that cut's anger is balanced by the ultra-buoyant "I Wish," "Sir Duke," and "Another Star." The 2000 reissue boasts radically improved remastered sound. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My first choice for a desert island.......2007-07-08

Undeniably classic Stevie Wonder. If you're a fan you have to have this one; if you're new to Stevie this is the place to start. Unlike some of his sugar sweet music from the 1980s, Songs In The Key Of Life has some melodies that can only be described as "haunting" -- they stay with you a lifetime. Some believe that a great meal should be paired with a great wine. Here, each melody is paired with the right lyrics. It's perfect and it's also the one album I would take if I could take only one to a desert island banishment.

5 out of 5 stars The definition of music at its best........2007-06-17

If you check your local music store and looked through the Stevie Wonder CDs, you are likely to find this album more than the other albums (aside from "A Time To Love.") Though this album is over 30 years old, it's still in demand, and with a good reason: the 21 songs on this album are some of the greatest works to ever enter the music industry.

Most artists these days stick to one type of music, rarely trying something different. Wonder, on the other hand, has mastered not only his usual R&B and funk songs such as "I Wish," but on this album he also throws in some Latin, classical and funk/rock fusion twists, and he delivers them just as well as his usual genre.

Wonder without a doubt has talent in songwriting. He sings about almost everything that you can sing about, such as world peace ("Love's In Need Of Love Today"), love ("Knocks Me Off My Feet"), heartbreak ("Another Star"), world problems ("Village Ghetto Land") and equality ("Black Man") to name a few. No matter what he sings about he delivers some of the best vocals, lyrics and composing of all time. Most of his songs are upbeat and danceable, such as "Ngiculela" and "Sir Duke." "As" and "Summer Soft" are the most beautiful, poetic songs on the album and the music accompanying them are just as extraordinary. The funk songs Wonder is known for are also here. "I Wish" and "All Day Sucker" are funkier than "Superstition" from the album "Talking Book." "Ebony Eyes" is a very fun song that has a slight Beatles feel to it.

Wonder also includes two instrumentals: "Contusion" and "Easy Goin' Evening." Both of them show Wonder's skill with instruments, especially the harmonica (in "Easy Goin' Evening") which he is very well known for. "Contusion" is a great display of R&B/rock fusion and is very fun to dance to.

With twenty-one songs on this album, each of them some of the greatest songs ever, it's difficult to not like the album. This is music at its absolute best.

5 out of 5 stars You Can't NOT Give This Album 5 Stars.......2007-06-08

I never really considered myself a Stevie Wonder fan, but after listening to this album, I realize why people love him so much. The songs off this album have been sampled and re-recorded by so many other artists it's scary! His R&B songwriting was second to none during the mid 70s.

5 out of 5 stars stevie really wonder.......2007-05-13

great album: one of my favourites through all times. I already own the LP but on cd the quality is excellent. great buy!!!

5 out of 5 stars 10 STARS FOR SOUL.......2007-05-02

You know I found the album of him with two records and listening to it is just so AMAZING!!! Look at all the instruments Mr. Stevie Wonder plays and how he composes each and every song, along with the wisdom Stevie kicks down from his songs. I mean, what ever happened to all that SOUL in today's music???
Much love for the parents and the purpose that Stevie Wonder has continued to live out!

The appeal of this album isn't limited to children--though the gentle repertoire and soft acoustic musical accompaniment will surely soothe little ones at the end of a long day, adults will find the silky-smooth vocals, beautiful harmonies, and creative production just as engaging. Parents will enjoy listening to the metamorphosis of Loggins's 1969 Top 40 hit "House on Pooh Corner" to the updated '90s version. And with titles like the traditional "All the Pretty Little Ponies" and "To-Ra-Loo-Ra" and covers of Paul Williams's "Rainbow Connection," Jimmy Webb's "The Last Unicorn," and John Lennon's "Love," Mom might find herself borrowing this CD from the nursery when it comes time to kick back and relax after the kids are asleep. --Deborah Moore

I listened to this Cd long before I had children, and now my daughter (age 2) listens to it every night as she is going to sleep. This is probably the 4th or 5th copy I have bought as presents for new babies. I can't say it enough. This is the best lullaby/relaxation CD I have ever heard.

I LOVE this CD. After buying it for myself, and falling in love with it, I have made it a "must" gift for my friends that are expecting a child. Its a perfect baby shower gift for the Mom or the Dad. I have purchased several, over the years and I always get great feedback. This is truly a CD the whole family can enjoy.

One of Stevie Wonder's best albums, and the one where his more fanciful, free-form moments gel perfectly with his knack for irresistible pop singles, 1973's Innervisions swings between delicate and airy ballads, Latin-influenced rhythms (the hit "Don't Worry 'Bout a Thing"), and his own synth-heavy versions of gut-bucket soul (the determined spiritual questing of "Higher Ground"). The striking juxtaposition between "Vision," a barely breathed hope that a world of peace might be upon us, and the great "Living for the City," a funky, pulsing tale of racism, is powerful, haunting, and still all too relevant. --David Cantwell

4 out of 5 stars A classic from one of Motown's frontmen.......2007-03-12

Since this is a very old album by now, if you listen it for the first time it could sound a little bit "out-of-time". However "Innervisions" is a key album to appreciate Stevie Wonder in the peak of his greatest performances. A 'must-have' for every 70s Soul fanatic collector!

5 out of 5 stars something we forgot.......2007-02-22

Everyone seems to forget Stevie got 3 Best album Grammys:
Album of the Year: Innervisions- 1973
Album of the Year: Fulfillingness' First Finale- 1974
Album of the Year: Songs in the Key of Life- 1976

The one they left out was Talking Book. Stevie's lagacy was built between 72-76. He dominated the popular sound to the point where all young singers attempted to mimick his sound into the 90's. I don't think any other performer had such a profound influence on soul music of the 70's except the James Brown rhythm section, which went on to back Parliament/Funkadelic and pretty much started the Disco revolution.

Songs from the Street, the boxed set that stretches back to "Sesame Street's" 1969 debut, is the kids' record of the year, if not the decade: Big Bird and the gang might've pulled it off themselves--for a crew of fix-it store workers, shopkeeps, and goofball monsters, the talent quotient's off the charts--but when you've got this many names to drop, they've got to land somewhere. What impresses most in three discs is the lack of a single thud. Cab Calloway, Pete Seeger, and James Taylor mosey in on disc one; Johnny Cash, BB King, and Tony Bennett take seats on the stoop for disc two; and the Dixie Chicks, Gloria Estefan, and R.E.M. raise the brownstone roof on disc three--and that's leaving out stars like Lena Horne, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, and Trisha Yearwood. When it comes to inspiring preschoolers and their parents to sing the praises of rubber duckies, bein' green, and the people in their neighborhood; "The Street" gets busy. --Tammy La Gorce

2 out of 5 stars I'd rather just the first 10 years, thanks.......2007-05-26

About half the songs are the original television versions. But the liner notes for the other half list them as being "from" other COMPILATIONS released in the 1990s.
Nowhere is it stated whether those compilations used the original versions or re-recordings, so who knows? Even the TITLE theme is not the original (It might be the version they use nowadays, but it's not the version most people know from the 70s).
Sesame should have just used the original TV versions of all tracks as that's what collectors of vintage material would be looking for (and paying quite a lot for).
They also should have focused more on the early years when the show was the most innovative. And as music was a major element, I'm sure there's a lot more material that could have been used, particularly those odd demonstrational songs about the number 5 or the letter R. Instead they've focused on the celebrity guests, most of whom don't really add much value.
I personally hoped there'd be that funky counting to ten song that featured on almost every episode (not the Pinball one, which I love too).
Disappointing, but until a better option comes along, this will have to do.

5 out of 5 stars A great buy, you'll play this over and over........2007-03-15

I bought this when my daughter was born, and two years later she still asks for them to be played. The set contains three CDs, on which are collected famous songs, and ditties from the Sesame Street show...favorites like C is for Cookie, Healthy, Happy Monsters performed by famous groups like REM and more. The songs are not just kid friendly, adults will enjoy the refreshing take on some old favorites too:)

5 out of 5 stars An All-Round Pleaser.......2007-02-15

I have always loved the music from Sesame Street, and as I have gotten older I have found that the next generation loves it just as much as I have, whether it be the older or newer songs. Since I bought this album, I have had it regularly playing at my sons' request. Funnily enough, anyone who walks in to our house smiles when they hear the music, ask what the album is, then sit back and enjoy it all - regardless of whether they have ever watched Sesame Street or not. Furry and real voices have universal appeal whatever the age of the listener! A beautiful album.

5 out of 5 stars Childhood Renewed.......2007-01-09

If you grew up on Sesame Street - or just want some music for kids that isn't annoying - this is the box set for you! The songs are clever, amusing, lively, and educational. We bought it for ourselves as a trip down memory lane before our son was born - and since then it has been our favorite baby shower or first birthday gift! Everyone who has it loves it!

4 out of 5 stars Come and Play.......2006-11-18

WHAT???????
No Capital I!!!! I can't believe that "Capital I" is not on this CD. Boy, I guess they should do two versions: Songs from the Street 60's/70's and songs from the street 80's 90's.

Still a Great CD though.

The photo-puppetry style of animation used to create the Nick Jr. series Wonder Pets! isn't the only thing special about the show, as any mom who's made the acquaintance of Ming-Ming Duckling, Linny the Guinea Pig, and Turtle Tuck will confirm faster than her fidgety 4-year-old can insist on a bigger-kid show. Beyond the gently imparted messages about teamwork and compassion, what kicks the show up to Dora and Diego levels of likeability is its music. Each episode is a mini operetta--listen past the preschool voices of the crusading main characters, and you'll hear a 10-member live orchestra lending the proceedings a serious-music-lover's vibe; for moms who weren't completely sold on the merits of intro to Mozart discs from series such as Baby Einstein, this represents another chance at cultivating appreciative ears. The lyrics of the sweet-natured songs, which come straight from the tube, help too: "We'll come to set you free/So you can pee!" the Pets squeal delightedly at a pent-up puppy on "Wee-Wee, Pee-Pee, Tinkle." If only transitioning out of Pull-Ups were as joyful a journey ... -Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Fun for kids.......2007-06-14

My son LOVES this CD! The songs are catchy and we sing them in the car. It is a terrific tv show that is intelligent and fun to watch.

5 out of 5 stars What Have I Become?.......2007-06-08

The staples in my car used to include Radiohead, Spiritualized, etc. Now that I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 year old, it's kids' music most of the time. That said, I really love this CD, as do my kids. We adore the show, and the producers of this CD did a really good job of picking the best songs and editing them well. Now when my 2 1/2 year old requests something other than the Wonder Pets, which she rarely does, I am disappointed! It's very musical theater-esque, actually, which is why the songs are so darn catchy. Even my 1 year old lights up when he hears certain songs on the CD, e.g., "Sheep-eee-hoo." I know there are lots of "kids" compilations out there by alternative artists, but come on, do your kids really like them? Do you really like them? This is fun, catchy, and it keeps the kids happy in the car. What more could you ask for? I mean, it would be nice if my kids requested "O.K. Computer," but I'm not holding out hope.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-05-21

I bought this in conjunction with the Wonder Pets DVD and I'm glad I did. My son listens to this over and over in the car and can't seem to get enough of it. I too know all the words! ha ha I highly recommend this if your child loves the Wonder Pets.

5 out of 5 stars Wonder Pets CD.......2007-05-14

If you love the show, you will LOVE the CD....lots of great tunes from the show. I hope they come out with another CD soon - there are so many good songs in the shows - not enough room on just one CD!

4 out of 5 stars great selection!.......2007-05-12

I bought this CD because my one year old is obsessed with the show, she really only pays attention to the songs. The CD includes a great selections of songs from the show. I noticed that the voice of "Ming Ming" (the duckling) seems to get drowned out by the music. Overall good CD, I definately recommend this if you would rather your child not be glued to the TV.

Into Broadway's creative vacuum of revivals, movie adaptations, and Hollywood star vehicles comes Rent, the story of squatters, junkies, performance artists, struggling musicians, drag queens, aspiring filmmakers, and HIV-positives (and you thought Miss Saigon's helicopter landing was cool). Undoubtedly among the defining pop cultural events of 1996, Rent has already won four Tony awards and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama. More importantly, it threatens to bring substance back to the Great White Way.

Transposing Puccini's 100-year-old opera La Bohème into modern day Bohemia (19th-century Paris's Left Bank becomes late-20th-century New York's East Village where the scourge of tuberculosis becomes the plague of AIDS) Rent celebrates life among the young, sick, and unconventional. While Broadway shows are hardly the place for authentic portrayals of the latest marginalized hipsters, composer Jonathan Larson (who died at age 36, days before his musical opened) managed to sculpt vivid characters and scenes that bring Avenue A as close as it will ever come to 42nd Street. And by telling a socially relevant story of living without the guarantee of a future (renting, that is), Larson does his own little bit to define an X'ed generation. At worst, Rent is the Hair of the '90s.

For the majority of us who won't be seeing Rent anytime soon, the Original Cast Recording is more than just an after-show souvenir. Well-packaged with a complete libretto, the two-CD set is a worthwhile album separate of live performance. Full of songs that are funny and catchy, inspiring and touching, smart and hip and not overly sentimental, Rent mixes showtune pop with elements of rock, R&B, dance, gospel, and tango to make one of the best albums of the year--certainly the best rock opera in decades. La vie bohème, indeed. --Roni Sarig

1 out of 5 stars Rent - a Celebration of Financial, Hygenic and Moral Degeneracy Masquerading as Moving Drama.......2007-05-28

When I first received my copy of Rent's soundtrack, one of my friends had the good manners to warn me that I would "hate the message." I am not surprised at this assessment, but what is more unfortunate is that the production as a whole does not make up for that objectionable message enough to make this a worthwhile purchase for anyone uninterested in a mindless affirmation of the self-destructive "bohemian" lifestyle. The lyrics alternate between vapid pseudo-philosophical platitudes ("Measure in love, seasons of love") and ugly overtones of Marxist class envy ("Yuppie scum"). The voices of the singers are disputable in quality - the most impressive being Idina Menzel's boisterous, full-bodied rock vocals and Jesse L. Martin's poignant soul-inspired voice and the worst being Daphne Rubin Vega's rasping excuse for a voice, whose every note invokes simultaneous feelings of pity and revulsion. As for the music, while certain tunes hold a certain decadent charm, the overall style soon becomes repetitive and tiresome, with guitars assailing the ears almost as frequently as paeans to drug use, socialism and "loooooove". How this mediocre blasphemy against Puccini could possibly have won a Tony is beyond my understanding, and how anyone could bring themselves to spend more than a dime upon such a second-rate soundtrack should be equally beyond your belief. Avoid this record.

5 out of 5 stars I'm Hooked!.......2007-05-01

I am a Renthead/Junkie for many years now. The cast recording has been with me for years due to a recommendation from a college friend. I have been playing this CD and know the words by heart.

I was the first in line when the movie came out and had a heartfelt emotional experience. And now it has finally happened...

I just saw the show for the first time on April 28th, 2007 and may I say GO SEE IT! The songs have not lost any relevance in the last 11 years. The cast of the tour is great and I hope one day to see the original cast perform.

Thank you Jonathan Larson! God speed and I love you :-)

5 out of 5 stars It gets even better.......2007-04-27

Although the movie soundtrack is fantastic, I found this soundtrack is even better. Having originated from the play, it may provide another perspective that enhances your "Rent" experience overall.

Jonathon Larson rocks!

5 out of 5 stars LOVE LOVE LOVE... ALL TIME FAVORITE.......2007-01-17

I saw the musical twice, once in L.A. and other in Chicago and it was GREAT!!! I'm a huge fan and pretty much know all the words. I never get sick of listening to this cd and others find it catchy too. I'm hoping my husband will let me watch it one more time in NY. :)

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......2007-01-12

This two disk CD hardly ever leaves my CD player. I actually went out and bought a bigger CD player just so that I could leave it in.

I have always thought that the comparations between "Rent" and "Hair" are totally unfair. In "Rent" we have a full cast with real and meaningful people without the false truths and lies that were around in the late 1960. Jonathan Larson is the Balzac of Generation X.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely AWESOME!!.......2007-06-10

I am a huge Beatles fan, and so my children listen and enjoy them as well. My 2 1/2 year old absolutely hates to sleep. This CD has been so helpful because it is so soothing and relaxing. My son lays down now and sighs a few times until song #3 comes around (And I Love Her), listens to it, hums along, and then he falls asleep. Never fails!! I can't believe it!! I recommend this CD for all the Beatles fans and all those who have babies that refuse to sleep!!

5 out of 5 stars A favorite in our house.......2007-05-17

This CD is GREAT!! We received it as a shower gift, and have been using it as part of our 2 year old son's bedtime routine since he was born. We dim the lights, put on this CD and read stories before nap time and bed time. The music is very soothing and relaxing. I even get a little sleepy when we're listening to it. I now buy it for all my friends who are expecting. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Gets an A+ from this Beatlemaniac.......2007-04-11

I gave this to a friend at a baby shower, and more than a year later, she told me that her little boy still insisted on playing this CD at bedtime. I listened to it while babysitting him, and it was so beautiful and soothing that it almost put *me* to sleep! I now give this to every new mom I know, and I will certainly buy a copy for myself when I have my first child. What better way to instill a love of the Fab Four in your little one?

I also like that you can pick a Pink or Blue album. My only "complaint" is that I wish there were a Green or Yellow album to give to the moms who don't find out what they're having ahead of time. I'm not too broken up about it, though, so I still give it five stars!

2 out of 5 stars Not what it could be.......2007-04-02

I was hoping for a relaxing instrumental CD where we could enjoy our favorite Beatles tunes. It is relaxing, but I can't even recognize the melodies of the songs. If I don't look at the back, I don't know what song is playing. That's not what I wanted out of this CD. If you want a bedtime CD, this is great, but not if you specifically want Beatles tunes.

Chevelle's haunting, booming, and vitriolic sophomore release opens with a song about three brothers called "Family System" Given that the three Loeffler brothers comprise Chevelle, it's easy to imagine the source of the song. Singer/guitarist Pete, drummer Sam, and bassist Joe have an intuitive gift for melding melody and intense, brutal passion in a manner that recalls at various times Live, Taproot, and Tool. From the brutal plea of the dynamic "Forfeit" to the bombast of "An Evening with El Diablo," Chevelle's earnest, less then groundbreaking modern rock captures an intensity that almost makes up for a sometimes cookie-cutter musical vibe. --Katherine Turman

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!!!!.......2007-03-22

This is Chevelle's second cd and it's one of there best one's. This cd is amazing, and if you don't have it yet I recommend that you get yourself a copy. 5 out of 5 stars Chevelle's Best To Date.......2007-02-04

In my opinion "Wonder What's Next" is Chevelle's best to date. Although I still need to check out "This Type Of Thinking (Could Do Us In)" this one compared to "Point #1" is their best. "Point #1" was great and had a sound of its own but this one by far stays entertaining all the way through. There's almost not a single song on this album that isn't at least alright. My favorite tracks from the album are probably "The Red", "Family System", "Wonder What's Next", and "An Evening with El Diablo". Here's my track ratings...

1. Family System - 10/10
2. Comfortable Liar - 10/10
3. Send The Pain Below - 10/10
4. Closure - 10/10
5. The Red - 10/10
6. Wonder What's Next - 10/10
7. Don't Fake This - 9.5/10
8. Forfeit - 9.5/10
9. Grab Thy Hand - 9.5/10
10. An Evening With El Diablo - 10/10
11. One Lonely Visitor - 8/10

Overall: 96% A

It's quite a difference between the Point #1 sound and is a very nice progression even though Point #1 was really good. It makes me really want to check out their next one "This Type Of Thinking" when I get the chance. It's just a good release by a good band. I think they even have a new one coming out this year aswell.

5 out of 5 stars Good Album.......2006-12-13

Good sound. I particularly enjoyed Comfortable Liar. Not having been acquainted with their other albums, I'll have to wait n c if they are as good.

4 out of 5 stars More than worthy of my $20!.......2006-10-30

I've known of Chevelle for about two years now, but until now only ever heard "Comfortable Liar", "The Clincher", and "Family System". Well, I was out buying music the other day, and decided to get Wonder What's Next, Chevelle's second studio record(first on a major label). What has drawn me to Chevelle is the contrast of sounds in their music. The singer has this boyish quality to his voice, yet the guitars and drums are all really hard. I love this contrast.

The band, which consists of three brothers, actually was delayed in releasing any music or even doing anything music related for well over a year due to disputes with their indie label, who, despite being in it's death throes, just wasn't willing to let the guys go. So it went to court. But they signed with Epic as soon as the opportunity arose. It's a good thing that didn't deter them from persuing their artistic goals.

Wonder What's Next kick's off strong with "Family System", a strongly emotional and relatable track about sibling rivalry. This, if you've never heard Chevelle before, will be an immediate introduction to the trio's hard-rock thump. On my computer's sound system, there is nothing I have that literally ROCKS your body as hard. Please, if you have 5.1 surround anywhere in your house, put Wonder What's Next in and turn it right up, that's how this record was made to be played.

From here Wonder What's Next excels. The tracks, "Comfortable Liar" and "Send the Pain Below" are the best on the album. And the last track, "One Lonely Visitor", shows a soft side to an otherwise hard rocking band. But I'd have to say that my favorite of the 11 tracks was definitely "Send the Pain Below", it has a tempo and groove that really clicks with me.

Overall, Wonder What's Next is a very good record, but the one issue I do have is that the sound quality isn't quite what it could be. Maybe it was recorded with a scratchy distortion on purpose, but nevertheless, I would have appreciated a more clear, crisp sound.

4 out of 5 stars good cd.......2006-08-03

I thought this album was good not great, but saying that i do recomend it to everyone because it does have some great songs it.

The best songs on the cd to are.
