5 out of 5 stars My Mother's Music.......2005-01-31

I heard this album when I was in my 1-didgets and I must say, this is a good album for the following.

#1: Dancing

#2: Mediation

#3: Yoga/Stretching

#4: Martial Arts

If you need some relaxation for you body, mind and soul, don't hesitate to purchase this.

4 out of 5 stars Moving to the Music, a personal & "daily" practice.......2001-03-20

I first learned of Gabrielle Roth at a Sacred Path men's retreat. The retreat focused on sacred movement, attaching emotions & totems to each of Roth's five dance styles: flowing, stacatto, chaos, lyrical, and stillness. We had live drumming at the retreat and didn't use recorded music. On the way home, however, I stopped and bought a copy of INITIATION so I could work through the rhythms myself.

If not danced to, the music is OK, nothing spectacular. It's not particularly great party dance music, either. But as the basis for an embodied spiritual practice? Wow! It's hard to beat.

I open up with flowing, connecting with Goddess, connecting with Earth, connecting with Ancestors, connecting with Spirit, connecting with Heart. I let my body move in flowing motions, softly, gently, slowly opening, encompassing more and more.

Moving on to stacatto, I move into a new energy space. Man, the toolmaker, not simply flowing with the current, but carving out a life. My energy level is rising. Into this movement I pour my plans, my goals, all that I would control.

The third movement, Chaos, seems to be the natural result of carving out my expectations from life. I let my body move wildly, struggling to control the rhythm, to push the river, to herd cats. This is where I bring my anger, frustration, and fear, letting the emotions flow through body language, in which no lie can be enacted.

The exhaustion of Chaos leads naturally into the rest of lyrical movement. It's discovering a new level of peace, of connectedness with the Universe, with Goddess, with Spirit; knowing that I'm not alone in the Chaos.

Finally, comes stillness, where I allow my motions to wind down, allow my body to slow down, to come to rest, to enter into meditation.

I've not worked with the other body music on the CD, I don't have enough time most days to work through the five rhythms. But that leaves me something to look forward to.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!.......2000-03-23

This is one of the most magical CDs I've ever heard. The music is purifying. It helps to focus my mind at the end of the day when I need to relax.

5 out of 5 stars Phew........2006-01-29

What gets me about Lotus isn't just that their sound is crisp and their melodies beautifully composed. What gets me is that their songs--often relaxed, very chill, meandering through a song almost effortlessly--can be so infectious and bring you to a completely different mental plane. Nomad is an incredible studio synthesis of their talent. Seeing them live is the best way to go (it's incredible) but Nomad really gives you a great scope of their talent... although, they are also this tight in person.

5 out of 5 stars Organic Ambient Trance Funk.......2005-08-16

I just had to write this review because this cd deserves an average rating of 5 stars. This is a very sophisticated interpretation of Lotus's live sound. No self-indulgent meandering, just very tastful, structured compositions. However, i don't think everyone has the capacity to appreciate the aesthetic value of this music, along with the overall musicianship.

This cd jams, but in a subtle way. Lotus leaves out alot of the uneeded tension in alot of music today and replaces it with a easy vibe that is equally relaxing as it is danceable. The music is part ambient so its not music that demands to be listened to. It fits well in the background at a party or in the car. Its not all about the individual solos, instead more about the vibe the music, as a whole, gives off. It is as equally interesting as it is ignorable. It's downtempo electronica that perfectly combines organic jams with ambient textures. This is one of my favorite albums i own, and i'd recomend it to anyone who appreciates good music.

4 out of 5 stars what i expected.......2005-08-15

Someone told me about lotus so I checked them out. The "live drum and base/jam techno" scene is on the rise and Lotus along with bands like MFA, djnotadj, and signal path is certainly one of the pioneers. The cd sounds great with many varied explorations into different styles of the live techno genre. Check it.

5 out of 5 stars Clean and Beautiful: A prelude to the live experience.......2005-05-13

Yo ladies N gents, I go to college in PA, and the first time I really heard anything about Lotus came when a kid on my floor bought this disc and I spun it in my room. First and foremost, this album is totally righteous. If youre into classical improv and jamming, this is for you, and also, if youre into dance/trance this is for you as well. Furthermore, if youre into funk, they lay it down in kingly fashion. I've seen lotus twice this year, and the first time they were awesome, and the second time (a mere 3 months later) they were completely unreal. Whoever wrote that B/S about STS9 being better than lotus has obviously not seen them live, or was candy flippin too hard to understand. Sound tribe is a complete and utter joke compared to this band; in fact, there is no comparison. Please do yourselves the favor and go see Lotus live, and while youre at it, get this disc. Peace

5 out of 5 stars Eclectic Electric Jazz Electronica.......2005-03-28

You may have heard the buzz about this band. They
are truly a formally well-educated musical band
that likes to improvise off the audience's energy.
The use of improvisation, as well as certain music
phrases, or riffs, classifies them as jazz
performers. Rolling Stone magazine calls their
music "Loose, spontaneous Jam Rock instrumentals.
Funk and Latin influences surface in both the guitar
figures and the overall rhythms, while the drums
show a real jazz-inflected approach to dynamics and
may be the group's strong point." The drummer,
Steve Clemens (related to Samuel Langhorne?) is
indeed dynamic and delivers a great sound. But I
think the melodic/harmonic interplay between the
guitarist (Mike Rempel) and keyboard man (Luke
Miller) sustains the compositions over the length
of the musical program.
The music ranges from Smooth Jazz to Grateful
Dead concert jamming--definitely an eclectic mix.
In fact it seems at times that Mike is channeling
Jerry Garcia (not a bad contact)!
So, if you like instumental music that is great
to listen to (for both background and fore) pick
up this CD. The samples provide good examples of
the sound quality and dynamics of Lotus'
material.

5 out of 5 stars Dreamy Progressive with a hint of Funky.......2006-03-06

Hernan does a great job at bringing the best elements from the lost art of progressive and blending it with contemporary, tribal, atmospheric finesse. Each CD brings its own mood to the table and executes it with precision. The first CD is a little funkier and chill with the second CD a relentless deep progressive experience. All the while it gives some consistency with hints and accents of dreamy atmospherics that truly distinguish Cattaneo as a Renaissance Master. The first CD favs are 2, 5, and the progressive tribal luciousness of track 6. Track 3 on disc 2 is an emotive wonder as well as midway through 5. An excellent purchase that I am 100% involved with now.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!.......2006-02-16

This is what I believe to be Hernan at his best. Some of the best progressive I have ever heard. He is one of the best in the world and he proves it here. Both CDs are amazing. There are very few CDs that I can listen to in there entirety. Both of these CDs are included in that select group.

5 out of 5 stars Renaissance: The Master Series, Vol. 2 mixed by Hernán Cattáneo.......2006-01-29

If you like deep progressive sound, this one is essential pick.

This album is a clear evidence why Mr.Cattaneo is so regarded in
house scene. Mixing is flawless and beatiful, whit quality tracks.

5 out of 5 stars The return of progressive house.......2005-11-23

If you're like me, bored with progressive house DJs trying to break new grounds with material that is maybe 20% danceable, relieve yourself - get this CD. Both mixing and track selection are on par with Dave Seaman's very best releases, and the style is similar. At last, here's again THAT intelligent, rich, mind-blowing, stomach-twirling house that keeps dancefloor crazy for the whole night and haunts you for weeks. Would love the guy come to Moscow more that any other DJ in the World.

4 out of 5 stars The year techno was positioned to be "the next big thing"..........2006-10-26

I bought this when it first came out having listened to early techno such as Eon and early Moby, having attended some raves once they had crept out of the underground. So I was merely dabbling, having no idea until years later just what techno was all about. So I picked up this CD. The fact it was a compilation from K-Tel and the fact that one of the songs on here - Propellerheads "Take California" - was up for a grammy, electronic music being a new category is indicative of the fact that "electronica" was poised to be the next big thing. Fortunately, it never became such and it still remains relatively underground, Moby aside.

I am astounded at how well of a representation of electronica is contained in this disc. Many of the artists such as The Chemical Brothers, BT, Rabbit in the Moon, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy and Underworld, went even further on their way to success. Even a tune by Derrick May, one of the legends of techno out of Detroit, is on this compilation. A few songs are more or less disposable or the artist could have been better represented but for the most part this CD does a great service to a history of techno right at its cusp of going popular.

It's not a continuous mix and I find it hard to listen to the entire thing at one sitting but it's a great way to go back and it's also a great to remind yourself of how far this type of music has come.

4 out of 5 stars Go To The Digital Empire...........2005-01-08

...put some electronica in your CD collection. This is the start of the popular DE electronica/trance/trip hop series and you can't go wrong with some of the names featured here--Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Frankie Knuckles--explosions in the art of noise. It will definitely help make you an electronica fan.

5 out of 5 stars Superb 2-Disc Compilation.......2003-06-08

"Digital Empire: Electronica's Best" is, overall, a superb 2-disc compilation of mainstream electronica/techno songs from the late 1990s ('95 - '98). With so many popular bands/artists featured on here, it's easy to please most listeners.

Disc One starts off with one of my favorite songs and bands on here: "No Good (Start the Dance)" by The Prodigy. It's an almost un-Prodigy-like track--particularly if you're used to their songs like "Firestarter" and "Smack My B*tch Up"--mainly because of the female vocals.

A few of my other favorites on Disc One are pretty much the obvious choices: "Busy Child" by The Crystal Method, "Roots" by Mark Verbos (ok, not so obvious), and "Choose Life" by PF Project featuring Ewan McGregor from the movie "Trainspotting" (no f-ing four-letter UK swears here, though; it's all censored). In my opinion, this latter track (#11) should have traded places with the last track on Disc One: "Shnowed In" by Hawke. Number 12's ok (though I tend to forget it and turn the CD off after 11), but 11 would have made a better finale.

Disc Two, as well, opens with another good song: "Block Rockin' Beats" by The Chemical Brothers. Like Disc One, it's full of mainstream, high-energy songs (like a few of my faves: "Going Out of My Head" by Fatboy Slim, "One 4 Da Head" by Buzz Fiend, "414" by Doormouse, and "Born Slippy" by Underworld--yet another track off the "Trainspotting" soundtrack), as well as some slower, more mellower tracks, such as two gems that come to mind: "Subconscious" by Rabbit in the Moon and "Flaming June" by BT.

Together, these two CDs provide well over two hours of mostly high-energy electronica music. If you're a fan of more than a handful of bands/artists on here, then "Digital Empire: Electronica's Best" is definitely a must-have. You'll love it. Also recommended: all the other "Digital Empire" CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD ever.......2003-01-21

As the subject says, this is the best cd ever. I am a techno junkie, and have always bought cds like this, but most end up pretty bad. Then I got this one, and was blown away. There is not *one* bad track on the entire 2 CD set! I highly, highly reccomend Digital Empire. You won't be dissapointed.

2 out of 5 stars Thankfully Nick Warren Left This Genre Behind.......2007-03-17

This is Nick Warren's second release for Global Underground. I hate to be the spoiler in a perfect 5 star rating from previous reviewers...but this is by far his worst compilation under this label.

Don't get me wrong, I think Nick Warren is the greatest DJ on the planet. Even for his versatility alone. I just never cared for this phase in his brilliant career that this album falls into...his hard techno sets. From 1998 until 2002, he loved this genre and predominantly mixed tracks like those found on this album. Personally I hate techno and hard techno so I am biased when it comes to compilations that are predominantly from this genre. You may love both these dics if the opposite holds true for you.

It was really difficult to give an album with Nick Warren's name on it 2 stars, but it lacks that special "Warren element" that even his other techno heavy Global Underground releases had (ie. GU011:Budapest, and GU018:Amsterdam). Maybe what I perceive as the "Warren element" is the inclusion of some great progressive trance and progressive house tracks which are completely abscent from Global Underground 008: Brazil.

Disc 1 gets 2/5 stars and Disc 2 get 3/5 stars from me.

Thankfully he ultimately ditches techno by 2003...right around the release of Global Underground 024:Reykjavik. Yeah...that's the stuff.

5 out of 5 stars Here's an even older one..........2006-05-18

This CD was released in 1998!!!! Can you believe it? It's amazing how marvelous this CD sounds today. Buy this CD for Hybrid's Kill City and turn it up REAL LOUD (make sure you have a good subwoofer or you'll blow out your speakers like I did), your hypothalomus will thank you. Sounds a little different than the track on Wide Angle, haven't yet decided which I like better.

Marching powder is excellent. And Psychout is good. And "Ya Yae Ya Yo Yo Yo" (what the???) is, despite the weirdness, an excellent trance track. Most importantly, NO STINKERS, so you can listen all the way through without cringing.

5 out of 5 stars Best GU.......2005-10-23

Its not even worth rating any other GU productions. This is easily the best. Budapest was another great one as well. Warren finds flows naturally. In an industry of 80 billion DJ's, very few can make magic the way this guy can. A natural.

5 out of 5 stars Nick warren never seems to fail.......2004-11-06

Okay, it is almost 2005. it's getting harder to still enjoy trance techno for a lot of techno listeners. people are getting pickyier with the music and want more out of it than the so called " cheese " is providing them with.
This cd here is we'll going older everyday and it's certainly not young. But.... who the hell cares. It's so good. Starts off solid on disc one with a surprizingly not even dated sound. It's packed full of energy, and more than sounding brazilian, it to me sounds like im in India.. But not in a Goa techno kinda way. Only gets better and certainly never lets you down.... gets good all the way towards the end of disc one and instead of boiling down and getting tired, nick brings you tranceillusion... which is packed with energy.. leads you wanting more, and wait there is more, another whole disc. Rock on. alright disc 2 is just as good as disc 1 only to me disc 1 sounds a little less dated and to me it feels more like a feel of what nick warren is about. it's just all based upon opinion really because some poeple like disc 2 better than 1 and vice versa. Disc 2 to me has more of an oakenfold track selection like on tranceport... but doesn't loose nick's way of mixing.. it's really pretty brilliant. But, if you like stuff like digweed than your more than likely gonna want more of disc 1 than two... anyways ( jeeze im just rambling now) if you don't have this in your collection and you are a techno listener than you really are missing out big time. it's in my top 5 GU cds. really, i think you should buy it.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic Trancer With Balls..........2003-09-07

-
This album is dripping with high energy, funk, bass and near flawless mixing. It is by no means for the faint of heart, and not for those who are looking for clubby, cheese-filled tracks. This is pure, unadulterated house trance devoid of anthems and cheese vocals.

CD1 immediately grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Each track is packed with energy and has a degree of raw grit to it. Those worth noting are "Marching Powder", "Lose It" (my favourite), "India", "Tequila Flange", and "New Sunset".

CD2 lets the listener breathe a little easier, as it isn't as intense as disc one. "Psychout (Thing)" rocks. "Your Beautiful" and "Kill City" are relatively mellow. "Reality Detached" is a favourite with its quick, heavy drum beats and gritty synths. "Ya Yae Ya Yo Yo Yo", is, as one can draw from its title, weird. O.K., who pulled Café del Mar off the shelf?! Tekara's "Breathe In You" makes up for it, though. Pink Bomb's "Indica" and POB's "Boiler" are two remaining tracks worth noting on this disc.

This Global Underground compilation is a great starter for those who want to become acquainted with Nick Warren. Sure, it's over four years old, but it still manages to sound as fresh and as different from everything else that's out there these days. Classic trance at its best.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best perfect mix of House/Dance and Trance.......2000-11-01

With artists like Artful Dodger, Robbie Riviera and ATFC on the first disc and artist like The Warrior, Marc et Claude and Mauro Picotto on the second disc, MTV Ibiza 2000 is the perfect party music. The first cd is a great collection of beat-mixed house/dance songs that will make you wish you were on the dancefloor, and the second cd (also great beat-mixxed) is just pumpin' from start to end. Personally I think these are two of the best clubparty cds ever been made, and I recommend it strongly!

5 out of 5 stars Pure dance pleasure.......2000-10-29

A great double CD mix of up-lifting dance and chilled trance. Play this at a party and your friends will think they've stepped into a top nightclub. Both CDs are beat mixed together professionally and keep on going. Over 2 1/2 hours of pure dance pleasure.

4 out of 5 stars One of Rivera's hardest, most thumpin mixes..........2005-08-30

I have all of Rivera's mixed discs, and it is mixes like this one that made me go out and buy them-only to find that it's complete hit or miss with him, because sometimes he mixes really boring disco house sets-so read reviews before splurging on his stuff! But this is one incredible hardhouse mix. Tracks 1-6 are hard and intense, with some anthematic diva vocal thrown in now and then. Track 7 is a fast and funky house track with a taste of female vocal, but the peak hour stuff pounds back in on track 8 and the party continues right through to the end. The only real issue with this mix is that quite a few of the records used to make it had very noticeable pops and some hiss, which is why it loses a star. Track times:

    1. get up feel the music (7:07)
    2. Do it again (6:46)
    3. Tribal anthem (6:31)
    4. your love is taking me over (4:56)
    5. I wanna get wild (5:07)
    6. Ghetto high (6:48)
    7. Relax (6:16)
    8. I want a man tonight (6:04)
    9. The beginning (3:53)
    10. Why you here (3:42)
    11. Tribal anthem (3:25)
    12. Excited (3:54)
    13. Lift me up (6:53)

    5 out of 5 stars I am speechless.......2000-06-25

Nothing much to say about this. This compilation is flawless in every detail.....to those of you who read my reviews, and who both understand and appreciate what true house music is all about, you will frame this compilation.

Without a doubt, one of the best compilations I have come across.

Trance music has, and always will be weak, by the way, for those of you who haven't realized that.

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't get much better than this.......2000-03-12

I was starting to think I'd never find a house DJ I liked as much as Bad Boy Bill. It was actually appearances of River's stuff on BBB's CDs that made me snag this one. What's cool about Robbie is that he has a definite style and doesn't sound like all of the other generic house DJs out there. Best 'blind' buy I've ever made! This CD is SICK - a MUST HAVE for underground house fans.

5 out of 5 stars Beats you Hard!.......1999-11-17

Wow! A unbelievable set by hardest DJ Robbie Rivera, mixin the current and future hits in the clubs today! You wouldnt know, but he produced/remixed 6 out of the 10 songs on this album, which gives me more respect for this DJ! Total Insanity is would be the least to describe this album!

    5 out of 5 stars AWESOME.......1999-09-15

TOTAL INSANITY IS RIGHT. Robbie Rivera is at his best. Spining some of the greatest tracks around. It's worth your while if you like progressive/underground house.

    Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Call Me Insane, but I Wasn't Feelin' This.......2002-07-27

My taste in dance music is as diverse as anyone else's. I really dig soulful house, trance, two-step, and drum and bass. MoS has been one of the few labels that has consistently steered me in the right direction in terms of good dance music, but their winning streak ends here. I really liked the 2002 Ibiza guide, but this mix by Judge Jules didn't do it for me. We get nondescript, hyperactive trance numbers that start off promisingly but don't take off well. It would have been nice if we got more vocals and more variety, but I guess that doesn't really matter if this is blasting while you're at the club severely intoxicated. I'm actually VERY glad I got this used because if I paid the full import price, I would not have been a happy camper. While I'm sure this will appeal to some, this guide to Ibiza was a disappointment.

5 out of 5 stars Yeah! Its actually good!.......2001-06-12

Ministry of Sound has to pick up a lot of slack from many people worldwide for their cookie-cutter mixes and lack of depth in any of the mixes they create. A glossy slipcase and exceptional packaging can't help you ignore the fact that only big records are taken and nothing more.

Believe it or not, this mix is quite out of MOS's usual standards. It is extremely dancible and not all the songs are club stormers as I haven't heard them before. The first disc features some awesome house tunes while the second one is pure trance frenzy. Dumonde's Sandstorm is on the 2nd disc, and this disc was released well before that's song's popularity in North America right after the summer. Its Jules was predicting a future hit single. Other notables inlude, "Pumpin", "Song to the Siren", "Groovejet" and man..plenty more. But these songs are the first ones to come in mind...but its all been mixed in Jules frenzied pacing that refuses to let up. I don't think I recall one moment of rest. This is really a great mix..but i think its overshadowed by the Trance Nation sequels(the first one was good though) and all the annual mixes! They really need to make better mixes like this in the future

5 out of 5 stars Amazes me everytime.........2001-03-06

This compliation, mixed by Dj Judge Jules, is really amazing. The first time I heard it I was completely moved, and it does that to me each time I listen to it.. its got a great variety of trance, techno, and just phat beats the whole way through! Of course we know these artists are all amazing anyways, so having them put together all on one CD, makes it an even more pleasurable listening experience. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys any type of trance. We are a [trance nation]! hehehe. =p

4 out of 5 stars A must for hard house fans.......2001-02-17

Well I got this CD for Christmas and I am extremely pleased with it. I think CD 1 which is more hard house than trance is the better - mainly for Florian F's Surreal Brazil which is a masterpiece - But still I like the harder feel of this disc. Number 2 is definitely lighter and trancier but gets a bit harder towards the end although it is spoiled at the start by using too many tracks with vocals(I think a definite no-no in trance), but even so there are some gems like Moogwai's Viola. So overall if you like stompier hard house tunes, buy it and listen to CD 1. CD 2 has too many cheesy vocals for me, so if you want good trance, wait for the soon-to-be-released Binary Finary album instead.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome CD- Classic Judge Jules.......2001-01-18

First off I want to say that I'm giving this cd a 4 and a half star rating, but they don't have the option so I might as well say it here. This cd simply rocks! Being an avvid clubber myself at Twilo (NYC) and at some British clubs when I'm traveling, I look for the uplifting trancey sound that The Judge puts out. I bought this when I travelled to Italy over the summer and I fell in love with it. The track selection has some of the best songs of the summer with great mixing (some mixes were a bit off, hence the 4 and a half rating, but they're minor). Being a DJ myself, I strongly suggests buying this compilation, it's well worth it!
