Tweens aren't often heralded for their good judgment and excellent taste (Heelys--hello), but if any young starlet can redeem them, it's Hannah Montana. On this, the second soundtrack from the Disney Channel series, Miley Cyrus takes her cues from her TV alter ego, who has an alter ego of her own: Disc 1 features Miley as Hannah, hair-tossing pop princess by weekend, likable schoolgirl by weekday (see "Old Blue Jeans" and "True Friends" to get a sense of each episode's un-cloying sweetness). But disc 2 is the start of something new, as her friends over on the High School Musical set might say: Miley sings strictly as her spunky, truth-telling self. This yields a number of pepped-up pop tracks bound to vibrate through the walls of pink bedrooms everywhere--"See You Again" is a boy-centric song instantly relatable to anyone who's ever been in seventh grade and suffered a bout of bashfulness, "East Northumberland High" puts a punk spin on an I'm-just-not-into-you tale, and "Clear" bounces on a reggae beat while canceling any doubt about our heroine's ability to stand up for herself. Like Hannah before her, Miley makes the best of both worlds--this well-worth-it set, by turns rockin' and reflective, is a masterful example. --Tammy La Gorce

Awesome CD!.......2007-07-24
Hannah Rocks! Love it, love it, love it. CD came quicker than I thought it would.
great role model; great singer.......2007-07-23
This is a young girl with quite a voice. My daughter (10) and her friends know every song by heart. Personally, I love the GNO (Girls Night Out) song best. Good Rock and Roll beat without heavy metal. Obviously Miley is a CW crossover hit as well.
Sorry gal, this girl's going to be around for a LONNNNGGGGG time. She's got talent and has everything working for her: good backing by Disney, great parents, music and entertainment contacts and simply put her TALENT. For such a young kid, she's amazingly balanced.
MILEY : "IM KEEPING MY BABY".......2007-07-23
Okay, dont even buy this. It doesnt even sound like her.
They have messed up her voice so much.
She wants to be hilary duff and DISNEY SAYS she is the next hilary duff but Hilary duff didnt have her voice changed soo much like this girl.
And that doesnt even look like her on the cover??
she looks fatter on it, though shes not!
she lip sings in concerts, this cd is nothing new.
Gosh, only people who are gonna like this are little 12-14 year old girls who wanna be a pop star. this album SUCKS.
yes the songs, or atleast a few, are good, THE LYRICS but her voice, no, just no.
I am not hating miley cyrus, I think shes pretty and all, but her voice is edited so badly.
listen to her sing on the show, with no music, as miley, then listen to her "sing" as hannah. It changes.
Gosh. she is gonna be out of style in a year or so.
Cause there is something fishy about her. I just know it.,
Can't get enough of this cd!.......2007-07-22
I love this cd! The first disc is 10 Hannah Montana songs. My favorite songs are: Nobody's Perfect, Make some noise, and Life's what you make it. This disc is EXCELLENT! The second disc is 10 song preformed by Miley Cyrus. My favorite song is I Miss You. This disc is EXCELLENT! You should buy this album! It is worth the money!!
Great Songs!.......2007-07-21
I dont know many of the songs on here yet, but I have a few favorites. I like Nobody's Perfect, Rock Star, One in a Million, and True Friend. My FAVORITE is One in a Million. Actually, personally, I don't really like the Meet Miley Cyrus CD all that much. I mostly listen to Hannah Montana 2. But, overall, I LOVE this CD set!!!! [...]

What fun! This soundtrack of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical overflows with glossy, ol' fashioned '60s-style pep. It won't win any awards for innovation, but it may well be one of the most feel-good releases of the year. While not quite as super-energetic as the original Broadway cast, the new crew ain't too shabby: Nikki Blonsky delivers as Tracy Turnblad and Zac Efron (High School Musical) makes for a devoted boyfriend, and the supporting cast gleefully embraces the show's silly-but-generous spirit. John Travolta (who gets to utter the particularly ironic line "it's been years since someone asked me to dance") goes drag as Tracy's mom, Edna, while Michelle Pfeiffer's slight stiffness is appropriate for her uptight character, especially on the cha-cha "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs." After Mama Morton in Chicago, Queen Latifah puts in another brassy turn as Motormouth Maybelle ("Big, Blonde and Beautiful," which is then reprised by Travolta and Pfeiffer). The show's authors, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, have written three new numbers for the movie: the rollicking (and first single) "Ladies' Choice," "New Girl in Town" and "Come So Far." In addition, the CD also includes two tracks that aren't in the film but were in the show: "Cooties," sung by Aimee Allen, and "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now," sung by all three Tracy Turnblads: Blonsky, Ricki Lake (from the source movie) and Marissa Jaret Winokur (from the original Broadway cast). --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
The Hairspray soundtrack will feature 17 songs from the film, including three original numbers that were created specifically for the film version of the hit Broadway musical - "Ladies' Choice," "New Girl In Town," and "Come So Far." Also featured on the soundtrack are the songs "Good Morning Baltimore," "Welcome to the `60s," "Nicest Kids In Town," and "You Can't Stop The Beat." The songs are performed by cast members John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow and Elijah Kelley among others.
The Hairspray soundtrack is produced by Marc Shaiman and features music by Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. It features tracks mixed by Ed Cherney (Rolling Stones, Bette Midler) and Peter Mokran (Pussycat Dolls, Christina Aguilera).
Sixteen years after the release of the original film, New Line Cinema is bringing a feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Hairspray to life. Featuring new and original material based on John Waters' 1988 cult classic about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show, the comedy features a remarkable collection of talent including John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, Allison Janney, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago), and director Adam Shankman (Bringing Down The House). The new screenplay for Hairspray was written by Leslie Dixon (Freaky Friday, Outrageous Fortune).
Customer Reviews:
FABULOUS FUN!.......2007-07-24
Here are TEN, ok, 11 reasons to see the film and buy the soundtrack:
1. John Travolta is a hoot...he should be nominated for an Academy Award.
2. Queen Latifah reigns in her justifiable glory..she is truly a major star. Her presence in the movie and soundtrack INSURES the message of the movie is delivered with grace and purpose.
3. Michelle Pfeiffer is PERFECT in her role. She plays sordid and evil so very well.
4. Zac Efron IS Luke...he is just too cool..and those eyes!
5. Elijah Kelley is brilliant..what a great talent! He sings, he dances, he acts...he rocks.
6. Nicki Blonsky is the LIVING TRACEY TURNBLAT...what a wonderful new talent. She was born for the role.
7. James Marsden is brilliantly smarmy.
8. The music is uplifting and just plain fun.
9. The sets and costumes are worthy of Academy nomination, and perhaps award.
10. The choreography is exciting, energetic, and exuberant.
And
11. Well...simply stated...you can't sit in the theater without tapping your foot, and you can't leave the theater without feeling real good and humming a song!
I couldnt believe it..........2007-07-24
I have never seen any previous Hairspray and I went to the movie with my mother and little sister on July 22nd and I went to this movie thinking "Oh, Great, Another chick flick". I was in the theater watching this movie and I started bopping my head and that was just to the first song. Further in the movie I started liking it...A LOT. And by the end of the movie with the song "You Can't Stop The Beat" I had become completely hooked. I mean this movie and soundtrack was absolutely phenomenal. I mean I left the theater practically dancing.
When the movie was over I went to the store and bought the soundtrack. It exceeded my expectations big time. I am not much of "Musical" liking guy but Oh My Goodness. It was amazing. John Travolta was sheer hilarity and I couldn't believe he pulled off playing a woman. But he did. I don't just recommend you see this movie. I sincerely urge and insist you go. I had to practically hold my knees from jumping up and dancing. I have listened to it countless times already. Don't Be Square, See some Hair(spray)
A New Classic.......2007-07-23
During the course of my 57 years on this planet I've had the opportunity to listen to literally hundreds of movie soundtracks. So I tend to be somewhat jaded because the classics ("Sound of Music", "Camelot", "Lion King", etc.) have set the bar so high that I'm condidtioned to approach anything new with a jaundiced eye. So imagine my thrill when I heard the soundtrack of "Hairspray" and felt that there was a new jewel to add to my short list. Marc Shaiman is a genius. I saw the show on the Broadway stage and loved it but I must say that this endeavor stands on its own. The perfect blend of exciting, spirited music and brilliantly funny and rollicking lyrics performed by a top notch cast that hits every note with the fun, wit and irony that Shaiman (and Scott Whitman) intended. I heartedly recommend this album to anyone who'd like to have a great time listening to music that will surely outlive us all.
wonderful.......2007-07-23
My daughters (age 5 and 11) went with me to see this and the next day we had to buy the soundtrack asap. We were trying to sing the songs from just seeing the movie just the once !
The songs are really catchy and the doo woops really take you back to the 50s and 60s.
I didn't saw the original version but was very pleased to see Ricki Lake in the movie and actually singing on this soundtrack. Gotta love the 'go Ricki, Go Ricki' at the end of the last track.
This is my families soundrack of Summer 2007 and we nearly know all the words already ! We are hoping the dvd will come out for Christmas.
Go see the movie and then go get the soundtrack. You will NOT be dissapointed at all.
GREAT SDTRCK.......2007-07-23
I have been a fan of the original movie since it was released, loved the musical on broadway, and now this just adds to the fun. Both the soundtrack and moview were great!!!

Even those allergic to musicals may be won over by Once, a tender-hearted Irish romance with songs by Czech Republic-born Markéta Irglová and Frames frontman Glen Hansard. (The film's director, John Carney, actually used to play bass in the group.) The trick here is that Irglová and Hansard also play the leads; because their characters are shown busking, writing music, or rehearsing, the songs are smoothly integrated in the film. The overall acoustic mood won't surprise fans of the Frames--some tracks ("Say It to Me," "When Your Mind's Made Up") have even popped up on the band's albums, though the arrangements are more pared-down here, befitting the scruffy, street-musician setting. Being the lesser-known entity, Irglová feels like a revelation; she sounds a bit like a folkie Björk on "If You Want Me," and her song "The Hill" is downright heartbreaking. Irglová and Hansard had already made the 2006 album The Swell Seasontogether, so their collaboration here feels really organic--they sound particularly good together on the title track, for instance. Now that's the kind of magic you want from musicals. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

A movie not to miss.......2007-07-24
Story - acting - music - vocals. Each of these elements one their own is outstanding, and when they are put together it creates a phenomenal movie. If you haven't seen it yet you are denying yourself a great experience.
well worth a listen.......2007-07-23
Although the movie "Once" is not very well known, I am recommending it, followed by purchasing the CD to all my friends. I play it all the time and because I saw the movie I think the emotionality of the music comes through loud and clear. It's a great CD and I look forward to hearing more from Glen Hansard and Maketa Irglova.
Once I found it I had to have it........2007-07-22
This soundtrack is not widely available over this side of the Atlantic, despite the location, nationality of cast and crew. Fantastic vocal and impressive instrumental work produce songs that stay with you having heard them just once.
WoW!!!.......2007-07-19
I really enjoyed the movie. So I came home and had to get this album. If you like Damien Rice, then you will enjoy this album. I really love tracks 2 and 7.
Once.......2007-07-19
We really liked the movie and were moved by the songs and the chemistry between the two leads. We especially liked about the first 7 or 8 songs. I'd recommend seeing the movie to really appreciate the music.

Who would have thought that Duncan Sheik would succeed where Paul Simon and Randy Newman failed, successfully transitioning from the pop-rock world to the Broadway stage? With Spring Awakening, Sheik and book writer/lyricist Steven Slater (who had already worked on Sheik's 2001 album Phantom Moon) have created a thoroughly exciting show that incorporates a contemporary art-indie idiom (including a small rock band instead of an orchestra) into a dramatic musical-theater context. The unlikely setting is that of a Frank Wedekind adaptation, but as it turns out, teenage angst is perennial, whether it's in contemporary America or in a 1891 German boarding school. Songs such as "The Bitch of Living" ("with nothing going on, asking just what went wrong"), "The Word of Your Body," "I Don't Do Sadness," and "Totally Fucked" ("You're fucked if you speak your mind and you know you will") resonate with the rage, frustration, confusion, excitement, joy, anger, and of course budding lust of those hormone-driven years. The show is greatly enhanced by its youthful cast members (they're all pretty close in age to their characters), who sing their hearts out. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
Decca Broadway presents the cast recording for the acclaimed new Broadway production, SPRING AWAKENING. Written by pop music composer Duncan Sheik and playwright/lyricist Steven Sater, the musical explores emotional earthquakes in the lives of teenagers.
SPRING AWAKENING is based on Frank Wedekind's controversial 1891 drama, which was scandalous in its day for addressing sex violence and suicide. The story, dialogue and costumes suggest the 19th Century, and are perfectly wedded to a beautiful alternative pop music score by Grammy® nominated singer/songwriter Duncan Sheik. The creative team also includes Tony® Award Winning director Michael Mayer (Thoroughly Modern Millie) and legendary choreographer Bill T. Jones.
Customer Reviews:
What's all the hype?????.......2007-07-23
This one totally escaped me...I can't believe it won so many Tony Awards. Most of the music sounds the same ...without a real melody to be found. A Rent wannabe that falls way short.
Spring Awakennings? I don't think so!!!.......2007-07-23
Having seen the musical of Spring Awakennings at the beginning of this year I would strongly reconsider purchasing this broadway cast recording. I am a theatre goer (at the age of 29) and have seen the majority of the lastest musicals for example, Grey Gardens, and The Pirate Queen. Anyway I was discusted with the musical of Spring Awakennings; why is it cool to show a couple simulating sex and watching a ploke pretending to toss off? constant swearing etc... - How sick is that!!!!... and you call this a musical worthy of nominations (of the year awards)! What is the world coming to! and what drugs are these so called critics taking?
In my opinion buy something else with your money such as 'The Pirate Queen' which has no longer showing.
One of the best musical soundtracks ever!.......2007-07-22
My favorite tracks are "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind", "The Song of Purple Summer", "The Dark I Know Well", "My Junk" and "Totally F*ucked".

This is a great CD and i listen to it all the time but i would not recommend buying this on amazon cause I bought this on itunes and it was only $9.99 and you dont have to even pay for shipping so buying it here is just a waste of time and money.

Tantalizing taste .......2007-07-20
The jacket notes explain the writing group's angle on musicals: People don't spontaneously break into song and revert to speech. New option: Rock music for internal dialogues (prevalent part of teen life). Awesome. If only it was the complete show.

Sadly, Curtains is the final entry in the long and fruitful partnership of lyricist Fred Ebb (who died in September 2004) and composer John Kander. While the show doesn't reach the heights of the team's previous masterpieces, such as Cabaret and Chicago, it's certainly a lot better than, say, their middling 1997 offering Steel Pier. Deliberately old-fashioned (it even features a real overture, something that's fast becoming a rarity), Curtains is a whodunit rolled into a musical--or vice versa. Set in 1959 Boston, it takes place backstage at a singing-and-dancing Western corker titled Robbin Hood. Someone gets killed, and a show tunes-crazy homicide detective (David Hyde Pierce) is called in. The plot is just a pretext for a series of very entertaining, characteristically brass-heavy songs that may not have the bite of old Kander and Ebb but are still very catchy. Above all, Curtains is (both thematically and stylistically) a love letter to old-school showbiz, and it's delivered on a silver platter by a cast of pros that includes the aforementioned Hyde Pierce, Kander and Ebb habituée Karen Ziemba, endearing Jason Danieley and, a notch above the rest, Debra Monk. Unsurprisingly, she chews the scenery and spits it right back in a pair of rowdy numbers: "Show People" and "It's a Business." --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
Curtains is an entertaining play within a play, as well as a "whodunit" new musical comedy featuring one of the last scores by legendary, Tony Award-winning songwriters
John Kander and
Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, New York, New York). Starring
David Hyde Pierce (Spamalot, "Frasier") and Debra Monk, the Curtains original Broadway cast album is produced by nine-time Grammy Award-winner Jay David Saks.
Customer Reviews:
Old fashion fun.......2007-07-23
This is a very old fashion fun Broadway score by Kander and Ebb(Cabaret, Chicago)...great arrangements, funny lyrics, good performances. Very easy listening and extremely entertaining.
Whodunit?!? Kander & Ebb, That's Who!.......2007-07-21
What a terrific recording! Every word is crystal clear and delightful. This show and cd should rank with Chicago and Cabaret!
David Hyde Pierce does Sherlock Holmes in a musical........2007-07-19
The show which spawned the OBC album was no "Producers", in fact it reminded me a lot of an old show "Crazy For You". The music was pleasant and one of the cast members has a wonderful tenor voice. Other than that the score is forgetable.
A Tough Act To Follow.......2007-07-18
"curtains" is a wonderful show full of fun and laughter and fantastic music.
Isn't it great to have an other show by Kander and Ebb who have giver us such
pleasure in the past. The cast are perfect not one dud in the whole pack.
I can thoroughly recommend this show to everyone with a love of musical theatre
JUST WHAT A BROADWAY MUSICAL SHOULD BE!!.......2007-07-17
In the tradition of good old-fashioned musicals that entertain for entertainment's sake comes this terrific, witty, clever, fun musical with a top notch cast and some swell songs. We were lucky enough to see this show several weeks ago. And as grand as it is to watch-- it is super to listen to as well. David Hype Pierce is totally terrific, as is Debra Monk. Karen Ziemba and Jason Daniely are first tier performers as well. The show moves along at a great pace, consistently entertaining. There are some wonderous Kander and Ebb melodies--maybe not on par with Cabaret and Chicago--but nonetheless still extremely good. Everything about the CD says high quality. It is well recorded and the performances are excellent. If you get a chance to see the show, grab the chance! If not, you can still enjoy the show with the playing of this CD. Highly recommended!!

As befits the soundtrack of a music biopic, most of the heavy lifting here is done by the movie's subject: iconic French singer Edith Piaf. She was the Gallic Judy Garland, a natural performer who overcame one personal tragedy after another and was never more alive than on stage, forging an uncommon bond with both material and audience. Since actress Marion Cotillard lip-synchs in the film, the first 11 tracks on the CD are by Piaf herself, and give a good overview of her biggest hits (though we get the English version of the title track) and her feverish, ultra-dramatic style. But Piaf wasn't only a tragedienne of song: Her lighter side is represented by "Rien de Rien" and "Mon Manège à Moi," which she infuses with wonderful flair. Tracks 12-20 are made up of Christopher Gunning's richly symphonic original score (check out "La Mort de Leplée"). The last third of the album offers Piaf without Piaf, with contemporary singers Jil Aigrot and Maya Barsoni performing her songs (apparently because the originals' poor sound quality meant they would have stuck out in the movie). Watch out, however, for Mistinguett's hilarious "Il m'a vu nue," a slice of French music-hall history preserved in amber. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

The soundtrack to the movie by the same title is excellent. The restoration was superb. The voice of Edith Piaf is masterful.

For its fifth cinematic installment, the Harry Potter franchise gets a new composer as England's Nicholas Hooper (a usual collaborator of new director David Yates) succeeds Patrick Doyle and John Williams. The screeching electric guitar that suddenly irrupts on the very first track, "Fireworks," lets the listener know that all is not quiet on the Hogwarts front. The kiddies are growing up, evil is spreading: which is worse?! But actually this modern sonic touch is deceiving: Hooper works within an old-school format and mostly sticks to tried-and-true effects. His score is best when it goes for tension and unease, particularly in its use of low, rumbling tones: A choir starts by humming in a menacing manner in "Dementors in the Underpass"; the sound at the beginning of "The Death of Sirius" feels as if it's being belched out from some deep, dark, scary place, creating an effective atmosphere of dread. Elsewhere, the beginning of "Possession" feels as if it belongs in a J-horror movie, and then the track becomes deceptively calm before the storm hits again. Keen listeners will recognize Williams' "Hedwig's Theme" in "Another Story," but mostly Hooper is his own man. Just like the overall series, which gets darker and darker as it goes along, this CD makes for a rather brooding listening experience--the pizzicato violins on "Umbridge Spoils a Beautiful Morning" provide one of the few jaunty touches. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Garbage in CD Format.......2007-07-22
Now, before people go off on me about my review of not only the music presented on the CD but the full score as well I am going to say some things first.
I love John Williams and the fact that this isn't Williams has no bearing on the quality of the score. The gentlemen who composed the music for the fourth film did a fine job taking music pioneered by Williams and adding his own spin to it. So, this has nothing to do with hatred towards these composers not being Williams.
The music is good, but it's not Harry Potter. It gets one star because, well it doesn't belong on this film at all. The brilliant theme written by John Williams is almost entirely absent, showing up with any effect in the start of the film and then pretty much never after that, at least nowhere of consequence. Why? Why has the main theme been left behind? Give me a logical explanation why any composer or director would allow someone to completely get rid of the defining theme of the entire series? One logical reason.
There isn't any. This composer has taken it upon himself, despite inadequate experience to completely rewrite the entire score, with little bits here and there to attempt to please those of us who actually enjoyed the previous soundtracks quite well.
The composer also has no concept of space and the use of silence in a composition. More than one occasion on the score during the movie there were parts where the music completely did not fit in. It felt like the composer wrote the music for a different scene. This shows a lack of understanding of music theory in terms of films and that is unacceptable for a series as massive as this.
Now, about the music itself. If you didn't know it was Harry Potter and you heard it you probably would think, "well this is pretty good". Why? Because it is actually good music. The new themes are rather energetic--in places--and powerful. It's strong music. But, it's not Harry Potter. It's not. Doesn't sound like Harry Potter, doesn't play like Harry Potter, and never will be Harry Potter. It is far too American sounding to be Harry Potter. Yes, there is such a thing as American style compositions. You've probably seen enough American films to understand what I mean by this.
So, I will say this: If you don't care that it's basically a bastardization of the amazing music presented before in that it doesn't bare almost any resemblance in most instances to the foundations, then by all means buy this. It's good music, just not the music you'd be expecting from a Harry Potter score.
Otherwise, don't buy it. Skip this one and pray that the executive producers or somebody fires this guy or makes him write a better score for the next film, provided he will be sticking around. With the shakiness of the film as it is, this isn't guaranteed in any way.
Shows Originality and Has Some GREAT Tracks, 4.5 stars.......2007-07-21
NO this album is still not as good as Prisoner of Azkaban--not nearly. That was the best album of the Harry Potter series. BUT, that being said, this album has some wonderful tracks that I really did enjoy. TRACK EIGHT is magnificent, and it is worth purchasing the CD just for this (lengthy) track. Frankly, I felt the CD could have used more tracks like this--it is very strong thematically and has a "magical" quality that defines Harry Potter. Track two, Umbridge's theme, is very good albeit slightly over repetitive. Track one is wonderful although I agree with reviewers who say that the electric guitar was uncalled for. The nice thing about this CD is that it is "Stravinskian" from the standpoint that the music is not all thematic but loose and flowing. Some of the tracks (such as track five) are not particularly memorable, but they are pleasant to listen to. Quite frankly, it is track 8 that makes this CD a sell--I love "musicbox" type of music (my favorite instruments include flute, harp, bells, etc.). So overall, I would say this is a VERY original album and that is what I like about it--a CD doesn't need to have twenty themes to be good. And, moreover, I can listen to it more than once and have enjoyed it each time. I actually have only one complaint--I wish that it was longer (around 60-70 minutes like Jurassic Park or Azkaban).
out of order and out of touch with Harry Potter.......2007-07-20
One of my biggest pet peeves of soundtracks is when they put the music out of order from the movie, as they did with this case. If I wanted it out of order then I would just hit the shuffle button on my CD player.
Nicholas Hooper's score to Order of the Phoenix is improved to that of Patric Doyle's score in the Goblet of Fire but it still is nowhere near that of John William's Harry Potter scores. Hooper's music is disappointing in that it doesn't capture the mood of the movie like it should. Umbridge's theme is peppy because she may look nice, but it doesn't hold that she is downright evil. We don't feel Harry's angst as he is entering the prime of his teenage years. The music wasn't as complex as I thought it would have been and overall, it just didn't seem very "Harry Potter-like."
I have heard that Hooper is set up for Half-Blood Prince and I hope that he makes the music far superior to that of Order of the Phoenix in capturing the mood, which will be a difficult task as Half-Blood Prince is the darkest of the books and the darkest of the movies so far.
Out Of Order.......2007-07-20
Why do these tracks have to be out of order? I really hate that!
The music is ok, could use more of the original themes to suit me though, I guess don't mess with success.
If anyone has a better order to these tracks (the order they are in the movie) please list it - that would be nice.
Best of the Franchise.......2007-07-19
With the usual nods to John Williams' initial themes, Hooper takes everything a notch higher with this score. Perfect.

Although it squarely falls in the "jukebox musical" category, Jersey Boys doesn¹t try to integrate its songs in an artificial plotline. The show tells the story of the early-1960s group the Four Seasons, and the musical numbers tend to be introduced in context, as when songwriter Bob Gaudio comes up with a tune, or the quartet performs a show. This allows Jersey Boys to flow better than some of ill-fated peers, and the actors can shine without having to bend backward to accommodate an inane book. The show's most (only) daring move is to start with a hip-hop-tinged French-language version of "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)," an actual hit in France in 2000. After that it's all VH1-biopic territory, but it's done with so much flair, taste and energy that the ride's a fun one. The Four Seasons had enough hits ("Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Rag Doll," etc.) to easily fill an evening at the theater, so it's left to the cast to do right by them. And it does, particularly John Lloyd Young as the band¹s star lead, Frankie Valli. Young hits all the falsetto notes and brings real freshness to the part. His "Can¹t Take My Eyes Off You," a second-act peak, is signed, sealed and delivered with a star's acumen. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
Recounting the rich history and reliving the timeless sounds of the phenomenal Frankie Vallie & The 4 Seasons, the new Broadway musical Jersey Boys answers the musical-and philosophical question, "How did four would-be wise guys from Newark, NJ, become one of the greatest chart-topping successes in pop music history?" Jersey Boys celebrates legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and Nick Massi who, as the 4 seasons, wrote their own songs, invented their own identity, and sold 175 million records worldwide-all before they were 30.

Singers doesn't try to make the same sound the same original. The music sounds like the voices don't care about what they are doing. I was kinda disappointed.

Purchased CD prior to seeing the show when visiting USA in '06. A fun lively show - the CD now captivates those fond memories of not only the foot tapping music & show but also our special time in New York.
Like being there.......2007-07-05
Have seen the play twice. This album lets me relive the experience anytime anyplace. A great piece of Rock n roll history.
A step back in musical time.......2007-07-05
My wife and daughter didn't know about the Four Seasons but I did. When I told them I wanted to see the musical on stage, there was no interest so I bought this product and they heard it in the car. We went to the stage musical soon after and we have listened to the entire disk so many times I've lost track. I created a Four Seasons monster in my daughter. She's fifteen and has memorized most of the songs and sings along while we are driving somewhere.
Great music, but missing too much.......2007-07-04
I saw this play at age 16 with no idea who the Four Seasons were, but instantly fell in love with it. The problem is, this soudntrack cuts a two hour play into less than an hour on CD. Most of the dialouge is missing, only including enough to let each member of the group at least say something. I know many play soundtracks cut out dialouge, but what confuses me is why this stretches to the music as well. What is there is amazing, but I don't understand why most of the songs are cut to half, and sometimes even a third or fourth of their original lengths. I love this CD, just be aware that you are hardly getting any story, just clips of lots of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons songs. So, great music and dialouge, just not enough for a musical soundtrack.

The music for this third chapter in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is a traditional, efficient action score that, due to the film's setting, occasionally incorporates light Asian touches. The popularity of Hans "Long John" Zimmer (all the credits in the CD's liner notes include pirate-themed nicknames, like the roll call in a Simpsons Halloween episode) isn't in doubt--he sure is one in-demand composer--but afficionados are divided about his artistic worth, and this score isn't about to reconcile them. Some think that Zimmer relies too much on his stable of composers and sticks to tried-and-true recipes; others admire his capacity to weave themes in and out of cues, creating a whole made of subtly interrelated parts. At World's End feeds both camps: Seven of his collaborators are credited with writing "additional music," and the album feels by-the-numbers at times; but those inclined to listen very closely will be rewarded by the way Zimmer sneaks in bits of two main melodies (especially variations on the first track, a pirate theme titled "Hoist the Colours" and cowritten by director Gore Verbinski) throughout. The use of electronics is so light as to be almost undetectable, which will please fans of a more organic orchestral sound. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Wow.......2007-07-17
This is the best soundtrack in the "Pirates" series. Hans Zimmer has melded the Eastern sounds with the West and composed an intricate melody which is hard to forget. My favorite soundtrack so far!
Movie Soundtrack Review.......2007-07-16
I love his music. And all the movie soundtracks he has done. I already have two of these, one for my car,and one for my home. This purchase was for my best friend on her birthday. His music for soundtracks, always intenses and blends so well with the movie, which it is all about. He's a wonderful composer.

Pirates Of The Caribbean:At World's End CD.......2007-07-13
The music that Hans Zimmer has written for this movie is outstanding. Once you have seen the movie, you realize the music fits it perfectly. There are several favorites that bring to mind the favorite scenes during which they're played so it's almost like watching the movie while listening to the CD. I have the CD's from all three Pirates movies and, while I love them all and listen to them regularly, the music from AWE is a different type of music. I recommend it highly.
