Customer Reviews:
Simply the best Yost mix around...........2002-04-01
I have all of Kevin's cd releases and some of his vinyl too. This cd is simply awesome, music that takes you into a deep and jazzy trip without repeating the same old deep house cliches. I dont think that too many words make sense here, just buy it, play it and enjoy the ride. Oh yes, make sure you dont forget to press "Repeat" on your cd player when playing this cd.
Jazz House.......2000-07-22
First off, if I coulda given four and a half stars, I woulda. Kevin Yost has picked up where he left off in "Small Town Underground" and continued his journey into jazz house. With this album, though, he has put even more emphasis on Jazz and turned the House down a notch. Therefore, this album is great for an uptempo vibe at your home, but I would not recommend it for someone who wanted some killer house music to dance around to. What you get here is a beautifully produced uptempo jazz house album, perfectly smooth and luxurious. I give thanks and praise to Kevin Yost for exploring this genre further and pushing it farther.
The makings of a podunk complex.......2000-07-21
I feel his pain, but along with "Small Town Underground", can it be more than a commercial ploy to emphasize one's boonie roots? His explanation of this album's title is rather self-indulgent and even inarticulate; fortunately he "merge[s] music that moves your body and music that enlightens your mind" adequately, if not in fact the perfectly realized product of evolution he describes. After two and a half times through, I can't find any standouts, but the tracks meld together quite nicely. It's rather odd that the rhythm almost constantly overshadows (or even drowns out) any other instrument (again, there are others, rarely heard in electronica), and that's a major factor in the similarity of sounds. I'd have a hard time differentiation one album from another (given the two I've heard), but it can certainly be a good thing. Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering, there is nary a big beat in this music. Perhaps this could serve as a restful reflective intermission between harder, and now poppier stuff.
