5 out of 5 stars Respekt.......2007-04-11

Evidently meaning business this album is a serious play for critical acceptance and a shift of intent for the band after their debut. Skid Row was hair meta, albeit excellent hair metal. But Slave to the Grind is just excellent metal and very much in keeping with the bands stated heroes like Judas Priest. Almost every tack here is a winner, the rockers atacking with bite and the ballads "taking you to dark unsettling places where reflection collides with worry" to quote Martin Popoff.

rather than go through a track by track synopsis for this release I'll cherry pick a few tracks and discuss them.

Monkey business - Excellent metal, excellent. From a brooding intro to a blazing metalfest led by a visceral Bach this is top notch metal no matter what era you grew up in.

Slave to the Grind - Probably the heaviest musical track recorded by Skid Row. Not my cup of tea but certainly a heavy duty attack. Add silly grunt/gargled vocals and you've got a metalcore song!

Quicksand Jesus - One of the three disturbing ballads on display here. Playing this track followed by In A Darkened Room and Wasted Time in an unlit room is something only to be done by experts. Just make sure you don't have any sharp objects close to hand...

Get the **** Out - The only really whimsical track here and a welcome relief. The only track here that could easily be imagined slotting onto the debut. Which makes sense as it was first played live at the Hordern Pavilion, Sydney Australia on the bands tour to promote the debut, so was perhaps the first tune written for this album.

Mudkicker - After Monkey Business this is probably my favourite of the metallic tunes, psychologically driven along a regular theme with the passion of the bands attack.

This album is a classin and the fact that it's not regarded as such appears to be due to the way the band are preceived in hindsight due to their breakup/disintegration. And perhaps because of hte bands image prior to this release. But if your not sure about buying a disc by Skid Row then ditch your worries and pick this up now.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Album Ever.......2006-10-05

This is quite simply my favorite album of all time.
Bachs voice is extraordinary and he really unleashes his full fury on this album. This ain't "hair-metal", its heavy metal, and if you love heavy metal, then you'll love this album.

4 out of 5 stars Rocks with controlled abandon.......2006-06-29

'Bass as he is known now because of the Super Group TV show on VH 1,is a rock legend, and rightfully so. He has pipes and knows how to use them. This is a classic 80's rock fest with all the power and verve to make you grit your teeth. Production could use a little tweaking, like a lot of the 80's CD's. A little bright, not enough mids. There is a reason that Skid Row still sells. This is good, crafted, and well sung rock. More original sounding than Poison or Warrant. More melodic than Anthrax or Motorhead. Great to play over and over, which I think is what the hair bands gave us. Don't think, just rock. Check out the underated Blue Murder CD made by John Sykes who was the guitarist and side singer for Whitesnake. If you like the 'Row, you will love Blue Murder. Great vocals too!

5 out of 5 stars If this doesn't get you moving, check your pulse..........2006-05-14

Guns n' Roses and Skid Row were by far and away my two favorite bands during the late 80s/early 90s. In truth, Skid was a distant second, but second nontheless. They toured together in the summer of 1992 and I got the chance to see them when they came to my hometown. Wow! What a show. I had their first one and was expecting more "18 and life", and "I remember you" type stuff. "In a Darkened Room", "Quicksand Jesus", and "Wasted Time" are in that same mold. But, the rest of this disc is heavy metal at its absolute finest.

"Monkey Business", "Slave to the Grind", "Living on a Chain Gang", and "Mudkicker" are some of the heaviest and best songs ever recorded. Heavy doesn't always make it good. Hard rocking doesn't always make it heavy. But it all comes together - completely together - on Slave to the Grind. What these guys did on this disc is absolutely amazing. This is no doubt a timeless classic.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT 'WASTED TIME'.......2006-04-27

This is the second Skids album and on tape it was a bit different, there's one song here that I had never heard before (Get The F*** Out). This album is tough, edgy, social and totally reflects the time it was written in (drugs, corporate greed, futility - all that fun stuff). I love most all the songs on this CD but I think my favorites are 1) Psycho Love - a whole lot of fun and strangeness; 2) Creepshow - girl kicks boy in the teeth, is she trying to tell him something?? and 3) Wasted Time - a best friend sinks into the deadliness of drugs while those that love him watch - devastating!

Solid second effort from the guys - can't miss it!

5 out of 5 stars I love it and I give it as a gift.......2006-12-11

This is the first collection of choral music that I've purchased and I love it. I own copies of operas and requiems and masses, but if you attend choral concerts, as I have been recently, you learn there is a huge colletion of choral music appart from the forms I've been listening to. I appreciate the producers selecting "Song for Athene" by Tavener and "Celebration (Standing Stone)" by McCartney. They are new to me and I love them. Disk 1 ends with "Jerusalem" and Disk 2 ends with "Land of Hope and Glory." As an American I rarely hear these and I am so glad they were included. I believe this album was intended to help popularize choral music and I believe the selections do fine job towards that end.

I know snobs rage against popularizing classical music, but everyone deserves exposure to the beauty of song. I will also mention here "The East Village Opera Company" because they work to popularize opera by setting it to a rock beat. They do a fine job but also get criticized for attempting to popularize classical music.

"The Best Choral Album in the World...Ever" was so popular with my teen-age daughter that it was hard to get it back from her. I give the album as a gift to nephews and nieces.

4 out of 5 stars MarMSED.......2005-08-27

The music selections are extraordinary. The only problem has to do with the balance of sound. There are some parts that are very loud, and some that are so very soft. You have to continually adjust the volume.

3 out of 5 stars Diverse range but the songs are butchered..........2005-07-24

Well, this CD isn't horrible by any stretch, but it is irritating to someone who's more than a casual listener of choral music. I'm by no means as musically "literate" as many reviewers out there, but I have a collection of probably twenty-five or thirty choral CD's and this is one that will probably be gathering dust in the back of the CD book.

The peices are well-performed for the most part, but they are hopelessly edited. Beethoven's Ode to Joy is somewhere around twenty four minutes, but this CD only includes an arrangement of about five minutes. The beautiful Miserere is, uncut, almost eleven minutes but is cut down to five and a half minutes here.

Looking back, I should have realized the major editing that would be involved, just by the sheer number of peices on it. I'm familiar with a great many of them and I know they're too long to fit onto a seventy minute disc without some major cutting going on. I just didn't reason that out before I shelled out the money for it.

Bottom line. This CD has decent singing, but is nothing special. If you're a newcomer to this genre, you might get this as a quick overview of the different types of choral music out there, but if you're any kind of an avid listener, this CD will drive you insane with the severity of the cuts. Beginners, if you're looking for a great collection CD, you'd do better to look at "Choral Moods". It doesn't have the diversity in styles of this one, but it will introduce you to incredibly talented composers. To the old hats out there, steer clear of this one and look to CD's by your preferred individual composers themselves. It's more money, but much less frustration in the long run. The old sayings are sometimes the best: You get what you pay for.

3 out of 5 stars Half the tracks are march or played like one.......2007-06-05

This disc reminded me of Leonard Bernstein's conducting: somehow many of his conducting session became marches. Many tracks on this disc is like that. I am a novice when it comes to classical music, so part of allure of this disc was that it contained many titles I didn't recognize, so it wasn't a total loss. I guess I should have read the track listing more carefully... what is Washington Post by Sousa doing on dance compilation?

4 out of 5 stars decent for dancing.......2006-12-31

There are quite a few tracks on here that do well for recital music. THere's different ones from the unoriginal swan lake's and nutcracker..my students loved to hear what came next....it gets better towards the end of the cd!

5 out of 5 stars Recommended.......2005-10-03

For those who would enjoy a fast, fun, and cheerful kind of classical music, I guess this cd is a very good choice. Also, if you want to make your kids a classic music lover, you could start with this fun, lighthearted music.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful selection, but not really dancing music.......2000-06-27

I agree that this is indeed absolutely beautiful light classical music. It is indeed a perfect beginning to a lifelong passion to have classical music playing in the background or to turn up the volume and immerse yourself in it. But it consists of mostly ballet music, several marches, polkas, an entrance of the gladiators, a gavotte and just to show that he can-can, a delightful little march by Beethoven of all people (Turkish March). Or can you dance to the continuous hypnotic rhythm of Ravel's Bolero? Quite tiring, I would think. Nevertheless, great music at an astounding price. Consider buying all or most of the "25 Favorites" series. You will not regret it

5 out of 5 stars This Will Keep You Dancing.......2000-03-30

If you like to dance and you like classical, this cd is a must have. Who says you can't dance to classical? This CD proves those who think so wrong. Highlights include Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, Mendhelsson's Midsummer Night's Dream, Gounod's Dance of the Slave Girls and Faust, Dvorak's Slavonic Dance, Offenbach's can-can (yeah!) Katchaturian's Sabre Dance and Ravel's Bolero. All these are excellent. Sousa Marches are here too. You must get this CD if you are a serious lover of the classical. In fact, this was my first Classical CD. Make it a part of your life and dance to the great beats of the classics ! Yeah I'm serious.

5 out of 5 stars Another collection-item for Baywatch-fans !.......2004-08-17

Also for Baywatch-fans this CD from Bryan Ferry is
a worth recommendation to their collection.
The CD contains the beautifull title "Slave to Love"
that whas used for the very first Baywatch-episode
(pilot-movie): "Baywatch - Panic at Malibu Pier"
(1989). If you are interested in songs that featured
on Baywatch, you can buy here on Amazon.com the Book: "Baywatch - Rescued from Prime Time".
This book contains all credits from songs/artists
(like Bryan Ferry), that you can buy here on Amazon.com

4 out of 5 stars Bryan Ferry gets the package treatment........2004-06-28

Without question, Bryan Ferry is one of the most sublime singers of the past 30 years. And if you subtract the work with Roxy, he rates as one of the all time best interpretive artists, ever. Which is what makes a collection like "Slave to Love" frustrating. While it certainly spotlight's Ferry's extraordinary skill as a romantic singer, it jumbles and juxtaposes styles from the various stages of Ferry's career.

One of the greatest things about latter day Roxy was that the albums (in particular, "Flesh + Blood" and "Avalon") had such seamless flow to them. Even his more recent solo material had that silky continuity, making them best heard as whole albums. On a CD touted as "The Best Of The Ballads," having the wistful romance of "More Than This" pressed against the endearingly campy "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" becomes something of a distraction rather than an enhancement.

Them's the minuses. The plusses are that you do get a really slick 74 minutes of coolly delivered songs to while away the time to. There are a few harder to find single and soundtrack songs here as well. Roxy Music's tribute to John Lennon, their cover of "Jealous Guy," is reason alone to buy "Slave To Love." You'll also find "Is Your Love Strong Enough" and "Sonnet No 18" for those who don't have the originals.

So while I wouldn't disavow this collection to anyone searching it out, I'd also recommend "Avalon," "Boys and Girls" and "Siren" as albums to explore above this one.

5 out of 5 stars Bryan Ferry: Today's Sinatra.......2003-02-16

I'll be brief. Your time is better spent lsiteing to this CD than reading about it. Bryan Ferry is today's Sinatra. Timeless ballads and exquisite arrangements, sincere vocal featuring superb phrasing. This is what artist collections should be, something fans and first-time listeners will enjoy forever.

5 out of 5 stars This is one collection to love.......2002-03-24

Bryan is one of my all time favorite singers of all time. He is a great musician and has created some of the best music that I have ever listened to.

This CD is a collection of ballads from both his solo albums and from his band Roxy Music's albums. There are two songs that were previously unreleased as well as the Princess Diana tribute track Sonnet No. 18.

The songs vary from very simple in the likes of Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, to jazzy like that of These Foolish Things, to rock-oriented in the likes of Is Your Love Strong Enough which is one of the best songs Bryan Ferry has ever made. It could fit well on his masterpiece Bete Noire. There are even two songs from his 1999 album As Time Goes By(I have since come to like it some) which have a very 30s or 40s vibe to them.

My favorite songs are Avalon, Is Your Love Strong Enough, Zamba, These Foolish Things, Windswept and the unforgettable Slave To Love.

The truth is this entire CD contains unforgettable songs that will never die in my opinion. I have enjoyed Bryan Ferry's music for about seven years( I,m 19 years old but I hate alot of todays artists). Bete Noire made me a fan of Bryan.

The thing though I kind don't like about these so called "Best Of" CDs is it kind of feels like the record executives are trying to cash in on the Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music fanbases( I don't need "Avalon, Slave To Love, or Smoke Gets In Your Eyes on like ten or so CDs).

But anyway I love this CD and i now have about five CDs by Ferry. I plan on getting his remastered early albums sometime soon.

Personally I feel glad I have this great collection of great ballads from a great singer. I recommend buying it for casual fans. This album is worth having just for Is Your Love Strong Enough with it's haunting ambient intro and the ambient rock guitar aways and for the great cover version of the classic Crazy Love.

Very good CD. Filled with great classical music. Would recommend to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Romantic Mood Music of High Level.......2005-11-16

Collections like this are nice as an alternative to Ipod type collections, or multi-CD shuffling, achieving a nice balance and variety of compositions.

Here gathered around "romantic" classical theme, have the likes of Dvorak, Strauss, Mozart, Pachelbel, et al. Acclaimed performances by Denon Classical catalog performers such as Jean-Pierre Rampal, David Oistrakh, etc.

For two disc set of such superb quality at such a reasonable price, this is very much a play often collection.

4 out of 5 stars Slave to the Rhythm..........2007-01-04

I can't improve on what the others have said about this effort by Miss Jones. But...an FYI...On the "Private-Life-Compass-Point-Sessions" CD, you will find the extended version of "Slave to the Rhythm."

Slave to the Rhythm times:

1. Slave to the Rhythm : 6:35
2. Compass-Point-Sessions: 8:10 (Hot Blooded Mix)

Don't worry folks, the "Hot Blooded Mix" is better than the album version (which is still a great song at 6:35, by the way!) Again, just putting it "out there" for your information! Four stars!

4 out of 5 stars A worthy attempt but not her best........2006-11-20

The album is an interesting attempt. It's appropriate for Grace Jones' style (unlike Inside Story) but there's not too much solid material here. Slave to the Rythym and the artwork makes this album 3 stars by default. I must give it 4 stars for it's effort but I would not recommended it for most people, unless you're a big Jones fan.

5 out of 5 stars Trevor Horn And Grace-An Explosive Combination.......2006-07-01

Sometimes an artist/producer relationship is meant to be.So after Sly And Robbie Grace Jones went for none other then Trevor Horn-80's sound painter extrondinaire. The results?Well
'Slave To The Rhythm' is unlike anything Grace Jones had done before. Many of the songs are an involved, dancable song cycle.Musically it all works but as it's function this CD is Grace Jones' biography set to music. The songs are constructed into and around an interview with Grace Jones about her life and career experiences-one of the the most compelling tracks here is "The Frog And The Princess".As pure music "Ladies & Gentleman-Miss Grace Jones" and the title track are superb.Just for a soni sound attack "Operattack" fits the bill with harsh echos of distored vocals and sound clippings.Although it contains some recognizable pop music such as the title song and "Fasion Show" this functions more as a whole-a biographical sound collage with a strong pop music underpinning. It is part of what Trevor Horn did so well and it is fit perfectly to Grace Jones' persona and musical sense. The perfect musical/audio visualization of an artist and their sense of self expression.

5 out of 5 stars America lost a perfect gem.......2005-12-29

How can you NOT check out this CD? This is one of the best works that Grace presented. I'm surprised that when this was first release I was preadolescent. I guess America wasn't ready for state of the art creation. Sometimes America can be so stubborn at times. If you are looking for a creative journey into Grace's artistic mind you should check this CD out!

5 out of 5 stars Agree this work under-appreciated.......2005-10-20

Traditionally not a Grace Jones fan. However, the creativity, versatility, and inovation of this work is not typical. I agree with those comments that this work really did not receive the recognition it deserved and remains an under-appreciated masterpiece. In this sense it reminds me of Phil Collins' work ('Face Values' in particualr) before Collins became a household name (recognizing the great dissimilarities in style, presentation, and audience).

Album Description

"The Music of Candyman" CD is the original music scores written by Philip Glass and produced by his production company, Euphorbia Productions for the films "Candyman" and its sequel "Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh". Subsequent to the first "Candyman" film release, Philip Glass' fans have been requesting access to these recordings. At this time Orange Mountain Music, Philip Glass' new record company, is very happy to make these recordings available. Newly re-mixed to facilitate home stereo playback from the original masters by Don Christensen, this CD will be an important addition to any serious Glass fan's collection as well as a stimulating record for all listeners. The "Candyman" films started out as "The Forbidden", a short story written by the acclaimed horror/fantasy author Clive Barker. It is the story of a graduate student's investigation into a grisly urban legend with distinct racial and social undertones. Director Bernard Rose's ("Paperhouse", "Immortal Beloved") adaptation has given the narrative an underlying intelligence and believability. Unlike most horror films "Candyman" is low on special-effects but still delivers hair raising suspense and surprising shocks, primarily with its creative imagery. Bernard Rose's innovative and realistic direction, the excellent cast (Virginia Madsen as Helen the graduate student and Tony Todd as Candyman) and the Cabrini Green location (a notorious Chicago housing project) made this film an original in its genre. Written for piano, pipe organ and chorus, Philip Glass's score is perfectly suited for this modern gothic tale. Using some of his well established techniques of rhythmic intensity and switching between major and minor key harmonies, Glass's score is as trance inducing and terrifyingly seductive as Candyman himself.

Album Description

In 1990 Philip Glass was approached to compose a score for the psychological horror film 'Candyman' and he provided additional cues for the sequel that followed. Since the release of these films, there has been much demand for a soundtrack album that until now has only been satisfied by bootlegs and cover albums. 2001.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Scary horror music at its finest.......2006-10-29

I saw the film "Candyman" several years ago and, being originally from Chicago, the film resonated with me more than if had been filmed in a different city. However, what stuck in my head for a very long time was Philip Glass' surreal, creepy musical score. When I learned there was a CD with the entire score years later I knew I had to have it.

The album actually draws from both the original "Candyman" film and its sequel "Candyman II: Farewell to the Flesh" (which I have not seen) and while there is some carryover musically there are really two separate musical suites on this CD. The first seven tracks are derived from the first film and center on a haunting melody that is the leitmotif for the film's protagonist, Helen Lyle. The tune is first heard most simply in "Music Box", before changing to a piano solo in "Helen's Theme" and finally culminating in the crescendo of a breathtaking choir with resonating basses and soaring sopranos. The remaining tracks build on the sense of horror in the film, particularly the staccato section of high notes in "Return to Cabrini."

The second half of the CD (tracks 8-13) begin with a brief reiteration of Helen's theme before changing over to Annie's theme, a beautiful melody sung by an anonymous artist. Whereas the first film made heavy use of piano in the score, the sequel replaces it with a magnificent pipe organ. "Annie's Theme" finds its own culmination with choir and organ in "The Demise of Candyman" which soars to unexpected heights.

While you might not listen to this CD every day, it is well written and arranged, and is perfect to enjoy as scary "mood music."

5 out of 5 stars Darkest Horror Soundtrack.......2006-09-30

Setting aside any other bad reviews this soundtrack got, the music that Philip Glass produced here is very authentic... I have not heard very many horror movies that actually have such a flawless music score besides Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" Parts 1 and 2. This soundtrack sets a morbid mood and can actually bring down a bright sunny day. For those who know how to appreciate something outside the box of the usual cliche, this is a must have for the dark-minded.

2 out of 5 stars There is a reason this music doesn't sound as good..........2006-07-22

It's evident from the very first notes that this is a re-recording, and not a very good one at that. If you absolutely must have this music in some form, get this CD. To be honest, you'd be better off just playing the tracks from the DVD.

1 out of 5 stars Geez, I don't remember the movie music being this bad!.......2006-06-06

Now I admit that I've never heard any other Philip Glass music prior to obtaining this CD. However, I was hooked on the "Candyman theme" song (actually titled "It Was Always You, Helen", track 6) from the first movie, so I figured there would probably be additional good tracks on the CD. Ok, made me look! To paraphrase Dr. Phil, I was "stupified" as to how awful this CD is, other than track 6 and a not-too-bad track 10 (Annie's Theme). Repetitious organ melodies and unrelenting, overbearing choral vocals (drowning out most of the music) comprise most of these songs. Maybe it can be blamed on the producer for a bad mix, I don't know. What I do know is, after getting about halfway through this CD while listening to it in my car, I was looking into my rearview mirror saying "Candyman, Candyman, Candyman", hoping he'd show up in my backseat and relieve me from listening any further. Sorry, but other than the "Helen" track so memorable from the first movie, this CD is probably just for hardcore Glass fans.

5 out of 5 stars Candyman, Candyman, Candyman, Candyman......can't do it........2005-03-02

Quite possibly the best horror soundtrack to the greatest slasher movie of all time. Candyman is one of my all time favorite movies you see, and the soundtrack is one of the main reasons why. It is truly one of a kind. Pick it up. Now.

Read a review in a magazine and bought this. Ignoring the fact that the band all have the same name - I am guessing more in the style of Hansen (they are related) rather than the Ramones - this is a really good modern melodic hard rock record.

4 out of 5 stars Someone Get Her Back Into A Studio.......2003-12-06

It's ashamed that the current revival in roots music hasn't brought this fantastic artist's music to light. She has labored in relative obscurity since the early 70's, when she became a fixture on the Nashville scence as a French major at Vanderbuilt, the so-called "Harvard of the South." She comes from wealthy and socially prominent family from Spartanburg County South Carolina. She's worked with Conway Twitty, Emmylou, Billy Joe Shaver and John Hiatt. Chapman has had a long working association with Jimmy Buffet, as a sometime singer in the Coral Reefer Band and has co-writter of a handful of Buffet's songs.

Marshall's smokey vocals and earthy song lyrics bear a resembalance to Lucinda Williams, but Marshall Chapman's involvement in burgeoning Nashville outlaw music scene predates Lucinda's emergence in Austin by at least five years. Marshall has recorded sporadically over the past 25 years and her seven year absence from recording since she recorded this excellent album, "Love Slave", has been the longest period she's been away from a studio in her career. She is sorely missed and I hope someone can coax her into a studio again because she deserves to be heard. Her 1978 album "Jaded Virgin" and her raucous live 1995 prison album, "It's About Time" are the most sought after items in her catalog but "Love Slave" is a comparable album in quality.

5 out of 5 stars Just Listen To It!.......2003-09-05

Find youself a copy here on Amazon, and buy it. This is the best record Marshall has made, and with her supporting cast of Grammy winners providing instrumental and vocal support, I haven't wanted to take it out of the CD changer in months.

5 out of 5 stars Soulful, Rocking, Reeling & Appealing.......1999-05-21

How Marshall Chapman has escape major stardom is one of the music industries many mysteries. With a career as a singer and widely recorded songwriter going back more than 20 years, she should be placed with Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda Williams as a great female pop/folk/blues/rock individualists.

Working with her fine band (The Love Slaves, their prior release live in a women's prision "It's About Time" is a sterling live set) she ranges from playful ("Don't Mind Me," "Love Slave") "sadder-but-wiser" ("Better To Let Her Go" "If I Can't Have You") to rageful ("Gun's Are Us"). Songs such as "Leaving Lochapoka" deserve to be considered with Lucinda Williams' best, a best story etched with heartache and insight.

If you don't know Marshall but find anything intriguing in these comments - get the CD! She is a wonderful artist and I don't think you'll regret it.

Album Description

"We wanted to make music without knowing what to expect and with boundaries left open," says drummer Scott Rockenfield of SLAVE TO THE SYSTEM. Rockenfield (QUEENSRŸCHE), along with vocalist/guitarist Damon Johnson (BROTHER CANE, ALICE COOPER BAND), guitarist/vocalist Kelly Gray (ex-QUEENSRŸCHE) and bassist Roman Glick (BROTHER CANE), set out to invent a new concept in rock music: music without rules or corporate influence that is not part of "the system".

On their self-titled Spitfire Records debut the band members combine their various influences and pool their talent to create something that any listener can appreciate. Their sound is both reminiscent of hard rock veterans like The Who, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy, as well as a younger breed of music akin to Audioslave and Velvet Revolver.

From the powerful buildup of the opening riff on the first single "Stigmata" to the somber tone of "Walk The Line", SLAVE TO THE SYSTEM grabs you by the ears and doesn't let go. Other powerful songs like "Cruze Out Of Control", "Ruby Wednesday" and the title track make this band a force to be reckoned with.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Interesting supergroup.......2007-02-19

It took me a while to track down this CD. Its different than I expected but I like none the less. Interesting combination of styles here. Its worth the search to find it.

5 out of 5 stars Oh Hell Yes.......2007-01-28

I listen to roots/70 aor/and some modern rock. Picked this one up through the recommended list and customer referral line here @ CDNOW. I have discovered some of the greatest cds through this valuable on line tool (and no, I am not a CDNOW employee)and this one did not let me down. I never write mediocre reviews, hell anyone can make a cd like that. To make a CD that is listenable from beginning to end with little or no filler, that deserves a review. This is an outstanding modern rock CD that rocks and can slow down and not enter the crappy power rock ballad territory. These guys are great muscians. Never heard of them either-don't matter-get it.

5 out of 5 stars Can you say "SUPERGROUP"!.......2006-09-14

Or should I say "Sleeper SuperGroup"! These guys deliver the goods! You have the driving force behind Brother Cane (vocals & guitar) Damon Johnson and on bass Roman Glick. The drums from Queensryche Scott Rockenfield. A famous producer who also plays some guitar/vocals Kelly Gray. Put it together and you have a true SUPERGROUP. This is good from begining to end. It's got a heavy 70's feel (Zepplin, Skynyrd) with some 80's guitar punch, some 90's Metal/Grundge drive (Soundgarden, Guns n Roses) and still sounding fresh with 2k bands (Velvet Revolver, Audioslave, Nickelback). If you liked Brother Cane just infuse some metal punch to it and you have "Slave to the System. If that sounds good don't pass this up!

5 out of 5 stars SLAVE RANKS HIGH ON THE FUNK LIST OF THE BEST!.......2006-07-10

If there are any objections sustained on the standing up for the truth guidelines of Funk law and order, please be the first to fulfill the ignominy of such. Chief Sun Star Ali hears and feels the very essence of the far east coast connection, and some
reel reel Mean Mugging. Prepare once again the sound system, for
the "Deeper Prophecy is Clear!" Flick the lights, for the 'Last Dance' is near.
In it's day this album must not be overlooked!

5 out of 5 stars was a mistake.........2006-05-26

received this disc by mistake. Knowing i'm a Queensryche fan my son oredered this off of their website a few x-mas's ago.I listened to two songs, realized it was not Queensryche and popped it back out dissappointed.About two weeks later i put it in my car stereo and it stayed there for weeks the more i listened to it the better it got. A great album, period! Great vocals great guitars, great rythym, and most of all a great variety of songs as opposed to all sounding alike. This is the first time i've found it on sale,if you have just discovered this to, buy it, it rocks!
