LESSER KNOWN BUT GOOD FATE CD.......2007-05-01

I've had this CD for several years now, and it keeps growing on me. While not even in the same leauge as "A Matter Of Attitude", this release has songs that rock a little more, and possibly their best song, "Gotta Have it All". "One by One" and "You're the Best Money Can Buy" are also outstanding tracks. It gets weak after that, thus only the 4 stars. The bonus tracks are not as good as the ones on "A Matter Of Attitude", but interesting enough, those bonus tracks sound like the work of the changed band lineup of this release.

European Melodic Rock...Remastered.......2006-11-29

American bands may have introduced the melodic arena rock sound in the early 80's, but their European counterparts have since perfected the style, and filled the gap between AOR and hair metal quite nicely. While Fate is not quite on par with bands like Europe, Treat and Bonfire, they are still worthy of notice.

Fate's 1990 album Scratch'n Sniff was the band's fourth album, and the first to feature vocalist Per Henriksen (Johansen at the time). Founding guitarist Hank Shermann had also left the band, which resulted in a drop in quality from the band's previous albums. There are plenty of good songs on Scratch'n Sniff, but overall the album is somewhat uneven. The lyrics are a bit goofy at times, and the vocalist doesn't appear completely comfortable singing in English. Still, it's a decent melodic rock album that is on par with much of what the Hollywood hair metal scene was releasing at the time.

If you're unfamiliar with Fate, you're better off checking out their self-titled debut or A Matter of Attitude, both of which have been remastered recently. If you like what you hear and want to complete your Fate collection, come back to this one.

Fortunately the good people at MTM were able to rescue this long out of print album from obscurity. The MTM Classix 2005 reissue of Scratch'n Sniff features digitally remastered sound and two bonus tracks - Just a Stranger and Don't Do Drugs.
