5 out of 5 stars Re: Done.......2004-01-07

Let me first say, I'm not a HUGE fan of Red Snapper. I only own his "Making Bones" album, which is great, but I hear his other albums are better and yet I haven't gotten them. This alone is proof of my lack of fanaticism. The reasons why I picked up this album off the rack:
1.the cover for this album is not regular card stock but actual cloth, with the words sewn on, safely placed within the cd casing. Now thats obviously no reason to go and buy an album just because its cover is pretty, but it definitely got me to pick it up.
2.the thought of remixing Red Snapper actually seemed like a good idea. RS comes up with genius tunes, so I was very curious to see what others could do with it. By the way, most of the artists doing the remixing on this album are names I've never heard of (Europa 51, Pedro, Rothko, Knowledge of Bugs, Rich Thair, Susumu Yokota...just to name a few).
3.I was able to scan the cd barcode and listen to the first 20 seconds of each track at the music store. so I guess you could say I cheated. :P

Verdict? Well as you can tell by my stars, I love it. Even though most of the remixers were unknowns to me, I enjoy the tracks immensely. They bring heavier beats to RS' themes and add personal flavor to old favorites. I was kind of bothered by the fact that there were RS songs remixed twice by different artists. For example, you'll see 'The Quiet One', 'Ultraviolet', 'Regrettable', & 'Mountains and Valleys' remixed twice, which already accounts for 2/3 of the album (meaning there are 12 tracks total, Mr Math). Even though there are doubles, I must admit, you can hardly tell because they're remixed so differently, but I do wish more RS tracks participated. Also, I wish Sabres of Paradise had a helping hand with this album, cuz I love his RS redones the best. Even with all this wishing, this album is a keeper, I'm just being picky. I love track 7, The Creation's remix of Heavy Petting, and track 4, Rich Thair's remix of Ultraviolet. If you're a fan of Red Snapper or not, this CD won't dissappoint. This quickly got TarTar's seal of approval and it didn't even have to give me a back rub first.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! An alternative holiday CD worth listening to!!.......2001-12-03

Wow! As someone of the (...) faith, I have never been that impressed with the "traditional" holiday tunes. However, my mind has been twisted, contorted AND changed since hearing Rhan Wilson's "An Altared Christmas" CD! Why have we never heard these songs this way before? My heartfelt thanks goes out to the creativity and genius that had the guts to take Christmas carols to a whole other level!

    5 out of 5 stars I rediscoverd Christmas.......2000-12-05

I loved it! For a long time I have been tired of hearing the same old songs sung the same old unrealistically happy way, that no way represented my experience of the holidays. Well, this Cd helped shake up my family and relatives last year and I even love to listen to it by myself with headphones on. You won't beleive what you hear when you really listen! (Aint that the way it is with a lot of things... hear that Mom?!!)
