      Album Description

      The story of Champion Records (and it's sister labels Calvert, Kit & Cherokee) is really the story of songwriter/record producer Ted Jarrett, who started his career at Tennessee Records in Nashville in the early 1950's and went into partnership with Allen and Reynolds Pubis in 1956 to form Champion. In 1955 and 1956 Ted had written two massive chart topping records, It's Love Baby (24 Hours A Day) for Louis Brooks and the High-Toppers and Love, Love, Love for Web Pierce. By 1957 Ted had become a successful independent producer and songwriter with Champion Records.

      The Champion Records Story Vol. 1 is compiled of some of the finest R&B sides produced by Jarrett during the 50's and is digitally remastered and housed in digipak format with sleeve notes by Fred James.
