U2 should be celebrated for doing what so few major rock bands have managed: They broke the chains of their own stardom. For a while it looked like they'd carry the "monsters of rock" banner into institutionalized and calcified dotage like the Who and Pink Floyd before them. But with 1991's Achtung Baby--and even more so on '93's Zooropa--U2 made clear they'd not become so alienated from artistic motivation that they believed more in their own importance than in their continued ability to create. Thus they stopped waving flags and learned to laugh at their fame. The change, in effect, released U2 from its own image and allowed the band more creative elbowroom than ever before. Only in this context could U2 now allow their producer Brian Eno to assume virtual membership in the band, adopt the pseudonym Passengers, and immerse themselves in the anonymity of film music.

With Original Soundtracks 1, a collection of 14 compositions for imagined movies (and one performance piece), U2 accentuate the visual sense. Eno, who's done this sort of thing for decades, plays a defining role. Tracks like "United Colours" and "One Minute Warning," with their electronic pulsations and organic atmospherics, clearly fall onto his ambient/techno terrain. Even tracks more recognizably the band's are enriched by collaboration: The hilarious "Elvis Ate America" is even more absurd with Howie B's scratching and vocal calls, and the touching "Miss Sarajevo" is made infinitely more profound by Luciano Pavarotti's tenor. Passengers is more likely an inspired tangent than an indication of U2's direction, but it adds to the band's impressive--and constantly progressive--body of work. --Roni Sarig

4 out of 5 stars unforgettable fire part II.......2006-10-07

the title says it all
after listening to the samples my first impressions are this is the angle u2 coulda gone afyer tuf and it could be tuf part II.
alot of it reminds me of 'promenade' from tuf or the music to 'bad', or even the b-side bass trap in 1987 or 'hold on to love'.

4 out of 5 stars An open letter to U2.......2005-12-02

Hey, members of the group Passengers, particularly Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.: I have an idea. Go back to your mansions and try to find where you hid your copy of "Original Soundtracks 1." Remember that album? If you don't, shame on you. Go on, go through your walk-in sunglasses closets and see if you can find it. Now, pop it in the CD player.

Now, as it plays, can you remember how unrestricted you felt at the time you made it? You guys had it all: a huge canvas and an unlimited amount of colors with which to paint. You had Brian Eno in the same room encouraging you to take advantage of these tools AND helping you write and perform all of the songs. The sound just seemed to flow without resistance, and you know what else? It's ten years old! Yet it sounds as fresh as it did the day it was released. And all the while, there was no one there to wag their finger at you and scold you for not sounding enough like U2. Ten years ago, you realized that idea was rubbish. Now...?

Bono, listen to the song "Slug." Do you hear how your lyrics were more abstract? You gave us a better picture of things without saying too much. And with all of this subtlety, you didn't feel the need to explain everything to death. "Elvis Ate America," what on earth is the point of that song? I don't know, and I prefer not to know. "Your Blue Room" is a tease: keep it that way. Give our imaginations a chance again, like you did with "Zooropa" and "Original Soundtracks 1."

Mr. Edge, pay attention to "United Colours." Now listen to "Miss Sarajevo" and "Your Blue Room." Very different style you were attacking, weren't you? Yet you sounded like no one else. What's even more fascinating was that you didn't even sound like the Edge from long ago. You realized that you didn't have to recreate the beginning riff of "Where The Streets Have No Name" or "With Or Without You" every time you picked up your guitar. Instead you were running down a path were even the young guys couldn't keep up with you. And it was exhilarating. But you have since traded your big, wide canvas and paint brushes for a coloring book and some crayons.

All of you guys, listen to "Miss Sarajevo." Notice how is pulsates, how it drives creativity into the listening mind without being outwardly adventurous. Listen to the sly chords and how they slink around one another to a most dreamy force, marking your band's artistic peak. Listen to "One Minute Warning." Hear how cool all of that noise is in the beginning? Hear how that vocoder is more scary and modern than it is cliché? Do you even remember how cool it was to record the ending of that song?

A special note to Larry Mullen Jr.: shut up. Yeah, you were bored with the Passengers album, but no one cares. You are an expendable member of the band and you really ought to go with the creative flow instead of settling for second best so that you can keep fans happy. I've heard what you did on "Original Soundtracks 1," and you were pretty good. But it's unfinished business. Time to make peace with your creative side.

Adam Clayton: all I can really tell you at this point is to talk some sense into your band mates. Help them realize that there is a difference between making "art" and making jingles for iPod commercials. You and your bad have come so far, you need to keep pushing further. We need to know what's on the other side of pop music and you guys were leading the way. Then you had to back off, because you're all wimps and you want to be 19 again.

So gentlemen, please, listen to what you were doing 10 years ago. No more of this "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" nonsense. "Original Soundtracks 1" may not be flawless, but it shows a creative spark that could've carried you guys far beyond superficial pop stardom. Stop settling for less.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing is what it is.......2005-07-30

I've owned this album for over 8 years and I continually come back to it as my favorite U2 album. I find the individual songs and the album as a complete experience grow on me with each listening. When I first listened to it I enjoyed a few songs but now I can appreciate the entire album.

I enjoy all of U2's other albums but this one really moves me more than any of the others. Its music is more cerebral and experimental than the rest. Want to hear Brian Eno singing, Bono playing the piano, Edge singing and playing the organ, and Adam Clayton narrating? Then you want this album. I can understand not issuing this album as a "U2" album. If they had released it just like an ordinary album then many U2 fans would have been angry/confused by what they heard.

I like to think of U2 as an artistic band, especially as a counter balance to their popular face. I'm sure Eno had a strong influence over this album but I'm also confident that U2's members contributed a great deal of material. This album combined with the DVD "Classic Albums - U2: The Joshua Tree" gives you a very different picture of U2 than might come across while listening to their pop corpus. More than any of their B-Sides, this album is major departure from what one would expect from U2.

All that said, many people that like U2 would probably dislike this album, however if you own all their other albums you should really add this one to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars great ARTISTS take an experimental DIVERSION . . ........2005-04-05

Presumably feeling no pressure to make the next great monumental rock album at the time, U2 join Brian Eno and more fully digress into his atmospheric territory than ever before or since. This is a compelling collection of (faux?) movie soundtracks, many with strong undercurrents of electronica. Anyone paying attention is aware of the vast influence these artists have had, especially on a group like Radiohead who I imagine listened to this album intently.

Like a lot of film scores, the majority of this album makes for excellent background music, but there's also some great songs, particularly "Your Blue Room" featuring beautiful organ from The Edge and a sensuous vocal from Bono. Another majestic one is "Miss Sarejevo" featuring opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. You have to admit, Bono has (guts) singing on a song with that guy's incredible voice.

The only track I don't like is the repetitive "Elvis Ate America" with Bono sing/reciting less than flattering observations on the King. It also interrupts the flow of the album.

Pretty much everything else here is well worth while if you can appreciate the emphasis of atmosphere over songs. Also of note is the beautiful voice of Holi on the dreamy "Ito Okashi." Her voice, receiving a distorted treatment, also colors the rythmically playful "One Minute Warning."

I was motivated to throw in my 2 cents after reading Blender magazine's overview of U2's discography, the lamest set of reviews they've done yet. They gave this album 1 star, virtually indicating it was all synths and opera which really only applies to one track! They have this incredibly lame need to fit everyone's discography into each of 5 catagories ranging from "Blender Approved" to "For Fans Only" (each catagory apparently MUST be filled). Half of their comments have nothing to do with the actual music! They are so lame (but admittedly, kinda fun to read anyway).

I was torn between rating this album 4 or 5 stars but went with 5 because, while not on the level of a masterpiece like ACHTUNG BABY or THE JOSHUA TREE, it's excellent for what it's trying to do and for what it is.

4 out of 5 stars Actually a movie soundtrack..........2005-02-23

Being an Eno fan, and not so much of a U2 fan, this album proves that with the production of a genius(Eno), U2 can be a great artistic band. However, there are at least two songs on "Passengers" that are ACTUALLY IN A MOVIE! The movie is called, "Beyond the Clouds," a foreign film of shorts directed by John Malkovitch. The short within the movie, "Par-Dela Les Nuages," (which also stars Malkovitch) has two tracks off of this album, "Beach Sequence," and "Your Blue Room." The movie was relased in 1995, the same year as "Passengers." So, to correct some people who think that this is an "imaginary" soundtrack album, that is not altogether true.

4 out of 5 stars It's GB's world and we're all just PASSENGERS.......2006-05-29

I absolutely love GB's music, I think because he combines world class virtuosity on one of the most listenable of all musical instruments with perhaps the most intellectually and sensory stimulating of musical art forms - jazz. His career is a unique confluence of these ideals that demands respect if not admiration. 'Passengers' is an album worthy of those ideals, with a couple unique confluences of it's own worth mentioning.

First this is the only album I can think of that features two bassists playing simultaneously on each track in a small ensemble setting - Steve Swallow on electric bass and the incomparable Eberhardt Weber on his bizarre...well, let's just call it an acoustic bass and leave it at that. The unique and wonderful sound of Weber's instrument has him mostly playing the role of soloist throughout - uncommon for a bassist - while Swallow handles the traditional bass duties of bottom end and rhythm. But even in this short set Swallow is still given ample time to break loose with several solos of his own (Sea Journey, B&G, etc). If you've never heard Weber's bass sound it is quite a treat and this album is a great place to start.

Second, this marks the last collaboration of Metheny with GB as a band member before the union of Pat with Lyle Mays to form the Pat Metheny Group and the production of Watercolors at the same Oslo, Norway studio a few months later in the spring of 1977. It is very evident from this recording that Pat is ready, both as a composer and an instrumentalist, to front his own band and that first manifestation of PMG imported Weber and drummer Dan Gottlieb from this project.

The fabulous lyrical style of Metheny's composing is well documented on his three original contributions to Passengers - Nacada, The Whopper and B&G (Midwestern Night's Dream). B&G is an especially interesting piece that is anchored by an elegant and simple alternating chord progression between Bm7 and GM7 - thus the name B&G. Pat has admitted to struggling with names for his compositions over the years and has occasionally resorted to simply cataloging them with a reference to such thing as time signatures or rhythm patterns (see 45/8 and 5-5-7 respectively from 'Letter From Home'). Maybe Midwestern Nights Dream didn't quite do it for him. Who knows. Useless info.

Weber and Swallow contribute a single composition each - both quite strange - and the album starts off with Sea Journey, an energetic and fun 9-minute piece by Chick Corea that gives plenty of solo time to all. But woven throughout are the masterful and fluid tones of GB's vibes - never forceful but always fully in command - simple to follow but never simplistic. The only gripe I have about gems like this recorded in the 70's is that they are way too short. They recorded on vinyl in those days, you know, which had about half the play time of today's CD's and left you wanting much more after the measly 45 minutes had flown by. Such is the case here. I'm usually not a fan of alternate takes but I would enjoy hearing several versions of this material to fill the rest of the CD. Classic GB and pre-PMG Pat. Buy it.

4 out of 5 stars Gary Burton, Journeys.......2005-08-27

I never really figured out Gary Burton's approach to jazz music. It's not fusion, nor is it traditional jazz, but it's not quite like Pat Metheny.

I love Burton's vibe playing, and I think he's probaly the best out there, it's just his recordings don't seem to grow on me as much as I want them to. There is no back beat, and there is no swing pattern. It's just in the middle, and maybe it will just take time to dig that.

Anyway, besides the rhythm, this album is a musical masterpiece. Pat Metheny is on guitar here and a lot of other great musicians are here as well.

All the songs are beautiful, if you like other Gary Burton releases you have heard, you'll love this.

5 out of 5 stars oh yes ~ a lost gem, indeed!.......2005-02-18

Burton's vibes really "ring" here, right off the bat with the first track through the third. great rhythm, too: smokes!

5 out of 5 stars A Lost Gem.......2004-05-16

This album is a little bit like finding a gold bar in your Grandpa's album. It is fantastic. I found it in a public library of all places and then went on to buy it. From the brooding edgy rythms of A Sea Journey, to the idyllic chords of Nacada to the spacey weirdness of Claude and Betty, this album is great. The light touch of Metheny blends well with Burton's playing. The bass player is great too but difficult to tell apart from the guitarist since he must be playing an electric accoustic bass. The difference between the two instrumentalists is two strings essentially. The only criticism of the album itself is that Yellow Fields and B%G both are kind of a soup that lacks rythm and melody. Well you can't win them all. But the tracks that do work are so good its worth buying it for. Its too bad Smooth Jazz has largely done away with the Vibes. They are beautiful and melodic. The improvising is great.

5 out of 5 stars Jazz with a twist.......2002-11-15

I'd been only mildly grabbed by the Jazz Passengers' previous CD, _In Love_, which is a pile of self-consciously wacky songs sung by an admittedly impressive array of guest stars: Mavis Staples, Jimmy Scott, Bob Dorough, Debbie Harry, Jeff Buckley, &c. It's more listenable than Carla Bley's _Escalator Over the Hill_ & less slick than a Hal Wilner album, but it's still a bit wearyingly offbeat & kaleidoscopic. So I'm extremely pleased that _Individually Twisted_ marks a considerable advance over its precursor. In large part this is because of the full-time recruitment of Debbie Harry, who is stunningly good throughout, on worldly-wise originals like "Porkchop" (a sardonic tirade about self-absorbed, two-timing boyfriends) & "Ole" (with its amusingly virtuosic lyric about Mexico, worthy of comparison with Tom Lehrer's "In Guadalajara"), chilling ballads like "Imitation of a Kiss" & "Angel Eyes" (Harry's reading of the line "Excuse me while I disappear" is devastating), or some entertaining revisitings of material like Neal Hefti's "L'il Darlin'" or the Blondie favourite "The Tide Is High". Elvis Costello pops in for a couple of tracks, including a marvellous duet with Harry on "Doncha Go 'Way Mad" (an instant collector's item, of course, but also, more importantly, one of the best things on the disc). -- The Passengers are in impeccable form, the slightly woozy horns riding the cooled-out sound of Bill Ware's vibes. Rob Thomas on violin is a new recruit (jazz fans will know him as the only violinist to take a solo on Lee Konitz's _Plays French Impressionist Music_), & turns in some nifty work.

A really fine album, very much worth checking out. Alas, I don't think Harry's with the Passengers anymore, since Blondie's reformed recently. However, I gather she's still keeping her hand in with the band, since she turns up on Bill Ware's new CD.

Perhaps the most absurd yet beautiful recording of jazz I have heard in awhile! I bet this was as fun for the artists to create as it is to listen to! Buy it! WOW!

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2000-06-03

Though I don't know Jazz Passenger history, I do love this album...especially because of Deborah Harry and Elvis Costello. Their duet "Doncha Go Way Mad" is spectacular! And it is because of Debbie and Blondie that I learned to love all kinds of music, including jazz (their album AUTOAMERICAN has two jazz songs "Here's Looking At You" and "Faces". And NO EXIT features the cheeky "Boom Boom In The Zoom Zoom Room"). Either if you like jazz or Deborah Harry, you'll love INDIVIDUALLY TWISTED. The Passengers really know good hitchhikers when they see 'em!

For me, the Jimmy Scott track is definitely the stand-out, but then I'm a major Jimmy Scott fan in whatever musical setting he's in. There are many interesting and beautiful tracks here. The jazz is quirky, but to my ear continually interesting. This is an album that grows on you like an eccentric friend.

4 out of 5 stars Mostly good.......2006-08-05

Like Criderman,I also came to know of Mostly Autumn through the Classic Rock 4 track Sampler. I was hooked straight away, and immediately rang the Cyclops label and bought the 1st 3 CDs(I was advised they were the best-Thats another story),and also the Limited Edition Grand Opera House 2 DVD set (Which covers most of Passengers anyway). I also loved Distant Train and Answer the question, but it was "Caught in a fold" which especially got my attention. Heather Findlay has a damn fine voice full of emotion and power. At times you are reminded of Nancy WIlson of Heart. OK, there is a heavy influence, most notably Pink Floyd, but it is by no means a Rip-Off.The lyrics, for starters, are awe-inspiring,and I do enjoy the interchange of Vocals between Josh and Findlay (Especially on ANswer the Question).I only have one bit of advice for Heather though i.e. Let Brian do the singing on Pink Floyd songs by himself.

5 out of 5 stars "Catch the starlight in your hands..".......2005-02-20

It seems the past couple years have been something of a transition for Mostly Autumn: with four albums under their belts they'd also just released a double anthology, a live album/DVD as a summation of the story so far (pun intended), and just finished three official-bootleg live discs released through their website. So the first chapter of their history has drawn to a close, and all that remained was to see where they'd go next. And now.. they did it again. With Passengers they produced the most inspired, wondrous and enchanting album of their career. And just when I thought I'd gotten the hang of trying to describe how the band sounds, they changed all the rules.

Oh, don't worry - the trademark Autumn sound is still unmistakable. The marriage of hard rock and English/Celtic influences is as un-cliched and inspired as ever. Their magical way with melodies and the gorgeous guitar work are as breathtaking as before. Yet it still sounds different. "Caught in a Fold" is darkly sinuous and Heather Findlay's singing almost sounds downright grungy: something we never would have heard from these folks before. The opener "Something In Between" (with the catchiest 7/4 chorus in recent memory) is a fiery head-banger in the same vein as "Never The Rainbow" or "Noise From My Head," but sounds nothing like them. "Distant Train" is a wide-sweeping instrumental that Pink Floyd might almost have made if they'd ever thought of including a quick flute reel amid the atmospherics. Heather Findlay's golden voice appears more than ever before, and the album is all the more rich for it. Alongside the group's own hodgepodge of guitars, piano/synths, bodhran and flutes, a few guests drop in to add violin, whistles, Uillean pipes, bozouki and cello.

The band doesn't merely run through different moods in the course of an hour, they bring them all to life with a shocking vividness. "Pure White Light" soars with boundless energy. "Bitterness Burnt" is a quick-tempo lament given a medieval air with its weaving harpsichord/guitar, floating flute and beautiful violin. "Answer The Question" and "Simple Ways" are powerfully haunting but still undeniably beautiful, full of life in the midst of overpowering bleakness. "Pass The Clock" is another masterful Autumn epic; part dark hard-rock and part sad lament, but ending with the most brightly spirited and heart-lifting four minutes of music ever to be found on an MA album thus far.

Mostly Autumn's songwriting is sheer magic and their skill is undeniable, but it's the soul and passion behind everything they do that makes them a marvel not to be missed. If an import price on Passengers seems a little steep, there are six other fantastic releases to look into first.. I can't even recommend a particular one to start with since none of them are less than stellar. Catch the spirit and discover something you didn't know you've been missing.

3 out of 5 stars Prog Rock Cliche.......2004-10-22

This band was quite hyped up with references to Pink Floyd and Genesis. The guitar lines sound like they were copied lick for lick from The Wall and flute solos copies from Jethro Tull. Many of the new "prog rock" bands (Spock's Beard) cite influences from the greats but only sound like cheap imitations. If you like the prog rock sound, check out Porcupine Tree and skip this band.

4 out of 5 stars Picking up passengers..........2004-07-15

I'm so cheap that I'm not usually in the habit of buying a group's CD after I've heard some of their work on a sampler CD, as I'll just listen to those songs taking the chance the whole CD won't have anything better, but that's just what happened in this case--several months ago I bought an issue of Classic Rock (UK) magazine that was sealed with a sampler of this CD enclosed and I listened to it, was intrigued but I misplaced the sampler--I have been looking for the songs on a download for purchase site but since it doesn't look like this group is going to be included anytime soon, I went ahead and not only bought this CD but the "Greatest Hits" one also available through this site--as for the songs, it is a mixed bag of influences, on one song I hear a strong Celtic influence and on another I can hear snatches of Pink Floyd (the Waters/Gilmour era)--I only subtract a star as I'm still not too keen on the male/female singer dynamic which reminds me of Lacuna Coil (another mixed bag of songs group but their male singer is stronger) and would rather hear more of the female portion of the group--my favorite tracks are Distant Train and Answer the Question, the former an atmospheric, bluesy instrumental that definitely invokes the David Gilmour/"The Wall" guitar sound then leads dramactically into the latter track which is a driving rocker that showcases the male singer at his best with the female taking the chorus--towards the end of this song the piano takes over as main instrument and surprisingly sounds like a trance riff! Both songs are the highlights of the CD that has a in-concert/large auditorium quality that I would love to see and hear live--also this group has played as an opening act for Blackmore's Night which should also give you some idea of their sound--highly recommended for fans of prog rock and classic rock in the vein of such female-fronted bands like Heart and Reinassance.

5 out of 5 stars Great music.......2004-04-06

I love this cd. Just like previous reviews of Mostly Autumn cd's it's a nice mixture of Pink-Floyd, Genesis with Ritchie Blackmore thrown in. The best example is "Distant Train" an wonderful instrumental which sounds so much like a Pink-Floyd song (with Mr. Blackmore on guitar). Don't get me wrong
Tp hear Pink-Floyd, Genesis and Rainbow is great, but the band still has sound of their own,. I hope you give it a try, I did and I love them.

5 out of 5 stars Live Jazz cd from Debbie and the Passengers........2003-09-11

This was the second cd release on the 32 Jazz label for Deborah Harry and The Jazz Passengers and was recorded at a Jazz festival in Spain hence the title Live In Spain. This was released around the time of the death of Debbie's mother and was dedicated to her. The music follows the weird fusion of classic jazz, bohemian type free flow ideas and the pop style of Debbie all put together in a great package. The best tracks and trust me they are all incredible songs are the "Bullmoose Boulevard" which is like a marching band type song about sailors,"Fat House" and "Samba Uber Alles". The ballads are where Debbie shines the most on like "Wednesday Afternoon","When The Fog Lifts" and the live versions of "Dog In Sand" and "Maybe I'm Lost". Just a great cd of funny and serious jazz tunes from Debbie and her second great band The Jazz Passengers. A+++++++++

5 out of 5 stars Amazing.......1999-08-02

This is just a great fun ride, with the addition of Debbie Harry on vocals the passengers have really created a masterpiece of live performance. Not to be missed

4 out of 5 stars Ecclectic fun.......1999-01-26

The Jazz Passengers are such a fun and talented band of musicians. Their songs have recently attained a certain mainstream appeal with the addition of Deborah Harry on vocals. The band still pull things out of the clear blue and Miss Harry is definately quirky enough to hold her own with the guys. The Passengers are the kind of band you have to just sit back and enjoy the ride.

4 out of 5 stars A Diamond for the U2 Collector.......2001-01-20

The Passengers project left many U2 fans wondering where the band was heading. With its experimentation and odd samplings, the Passengers cd left those who wanted "Mysterious Ways" and "I Will Follow" scratching their heads and covering their ears.

This cd single will appeal to all U2 fans. Miss Sarajevo is the most accessible of the Passengers tracks, and is indeed a beautifully written and performed pop song of genuine lyrical substance. Any fan of U2's familiar hits will love this song. I would go so far as to predict that had it been released as a U2 single, the song would have been a smash hit.

The version of "One" is majestic, though perhaps overly so, yet stripped-down at the same time. While not the quintessential version (I would give that title to the live version on the Tibetan Freedom Concert cd), it is a significant and noteworthy departure from the studio recording.

"Bottoms" features sounds that should be familiar to any fan of Achtung Baby. Meanwhile, "Viva Davidoff" will probably be the track that non-Passengers fans will skip.

5 out of 5 stars that's a tragedy.......1999-03-15

This thing made me realise that humans will never be fed up with blood. The war destroys everyone, without choosing. You may be a drunkard, a child, a begger, a king...The bullet dqesn't choose. That's pretty rare nowadays to hear songs about this. They found a way to the people's mind and heart, but, unfortunatelly, it didn't stop the war.

5 out of 5 stars What a great song.......1999-01-24

Miss Sarajevo is the best song I ever heard!!

5 out of 5 stars Buy it for "One" live.......1998-12-24

If you are a big U2 fan, get this CD for the live version of One. It's done with an string section, and it sounds beautiful. Although it's difficult to believe, this version sounds better than the one on Achtung Baby. The last two songs are instumental and might not be liked by someone who hated the full Passengers album, but the single gets five stars solely for One.

5 out of 5 stars U2 does it again, but this time under a different name........1998-07-22

It doesn't look like U2, but it sure has all the sounds that made this band one of the greatest of the second half of the century. With the Miss Sarajevo track that can be found on the Passengers CD comes a live version of One performed in Sarajevo. This live track has a distinct sound because it is Bono coupled with Craig Armstrong's Orchestra. A sweet sound and a fresh version of this U2 classic. There are also two tracks on this single that were only released in Japan. One of them sounds a lot like U2's Even Better Than the Real Thing.

4 out of 5 stars Cool CD.......2005-06-24

I was introduced to them while listening to XM and liked the song "Time Passengers," so I bought the album and wasn't disappointed. It's probably my most listened to CD right now.

5 out of 5 stars I love this CD! Please put out your 2nd CD! .......2005-02-03

First I have to say this CD Time Passengers from F.r.e.u.d.
is one of my all time favorite CD's! Cora O'Donavan has a brilliant voice! Since this CD Cora has put out a CD under the
name Elysia it is incredible! F.r.e.u.d. was getting ready to release there 2nd CD The Great Crossing in 2001 & the record company (New World Music)didn't let it happen? Let them know you want this to come out!

5 out of 5 stars Next Reviewer Please!.......2004-06-26

Okay, so it's been over a year since I've seen a review on this cd, I suppose it's time to see something new! First of all, anyone interested in hearing an outstanding female voice, here is your chance! Cora O'Donovan's voice resonates throughout this entire cd and you continue to feel her in your soul even hours after you've listened to this cd. It beckons you to listen again, and again, and again. You get the point! The only reason I didn't give this review 6 stars, okay, it's obvious, the haven't released anything new in what, 5 or 6 years. Only their Trance to the Sun under their new name "Elisia" which was okay. Had Cora done all the singing and not the "male version" of Cora, it would have been a better listen. Nonetheless, a great cd for those who crave that unusual female voice that just "stays with you" this is the cd!

5 out of 5 stars "DON'T YOU HEAR THAT SWEET SERENADE?.......2003-01-17

When I first listened to TIME PASSENGERS I was slightly disappointed because it appeared to be simple music. I felt it could have been better in many ways. Yet, with each new listen, I felt more depth as it imprinted itself upon my heart. And it still does with each listen. The music is like the ocean's tides being pulled back and forth by the moon. Eternally moving. Back and forth. Just like life.

For me, TIME PASSENGERS is a portal into a deeper realm of consciousness--of BEING. Perfect title! I love how the enchanting vocals of Cora O' Donovan blend into and become one with the music. I've found something that achieves a delightfully rare, delicate balance in music--neither the voice nor the music dominate--but are equal. I love it when this happens! The lyrics edify me and equally important, the Music confirms it.

This is a very special cd to me that I dedicate TODAY to a very special friend on her birthday. TIME PASSENGERS is so close to my heart and so are you. Life is eternal and our friendship is eternal. Happy Birthday, Moongoddess!

Unspoken lyrics to "Time Passengers": "You know you've been here before. You know you'll come back again. We travel in time with our minds. We travel in time with our hearts. Fantasy. Reality. Eternity. Unity. Destiny."

Close your eyes and step inside this music. You may not care to return for hundreds of earth years. Travel through time and...

Soar!

5 out of 5 stars Must buy! Absolutely brialliant!.......2002-11-28

"Time Passengers" is indeed a brilliant album! It features very nice and soothing female vocals (credit goes to Cora O'Donovan from Ireland), with very melodic rhythm, plus great and rich music + vocal arrangement. I have started to fall in love with Cora's Enya-alike vocals when I first heard of their latest project called Elysia, which consists of the original F.R.E.U.D. members, plus a new male member Aliterza Sanatjou who is the "male version" of Cora O'Donovan. His voice is very soothing and attractive. The title of Elysia's debut stunning new age album is called "Spirit Of The Sun", which feature the best track named "Elysium", featuring Cora's best vocals performance ever! Very melodic, ambient music arrangement, accompanied by very nice Spanish guitar! You can simply melt when you listen to this track! This album is released in Europe and Asia (Singapore). So for all F.R.E.U.D or new age fans, ...- the new F.R.E.U.D project!!!
From the "Time Passengers" album , I love "Sleep" the most!!! A very outstanding song!
