Lucid dreaming? .......2007-02-13

Oh, please! I guess it depends on your idea of dreaming.

If you enjoy dozing off with the electric blender on high, then you've gotta place this in your bedroom.

Seriously -- the musicianship is highly competent, and there is an obvious commitment to the entire production. But this CD is not dreamy.

The album title nails it: "Rhythmic FISSION -- digital revisions of classic trax."

A Dreamy Listening Experience.......2004-06-01

This music is ideal accompaniment for lucid dreaming...Some of the tracks are loud,fast, and flashy ("Chasing Bartok" track #1, "Machines" track #10 come to mind) while others are fragile and soothing ("Addio Del Passato" and "Espirito"). Any one of these songs would be a superb compliment to a movie soundtrack--they all have this movie-dream-type quality to them, whether the movie/dream is creepy, beautiful, sad, or just plain experimental electronic music. Tracks 12-14 are heavy on vocals: Track 12 is very similar to the enigma song "Beyond the Invisible", while "I would Kiss You" makes me think of Loreena McKennitt with a dash of techno-renaissance flair, and finally "New World" has its good moments, but sounds a bit Disney-esque. "Addio Del Passato" and "Espirito" are the best tracks on the whole album; they sound like the ideal Anne Rice movie soundtrack selections, with "Addio" serving for any goth-vampire-opera-or-nightclub scenes, and "Espirito" for any childhood flashback scenes (hey, that's just what it sounds like!)...

MC 5 - 'Starship : Live At Sturgis Armory - June 27,1968'.......2004-09-18

Another worthy archive MC 5 release brought to you from the folks at the Alive/Total Energy label.For some strange reason,it took time for me to land down a copy of this disc after it came out.With twelve cuts and a duration of seventy minutes,this proves to be a relatively long set,for the MC 5.The sound isn't perfect,but it's decent.Well,good enough for any REAL MC 5 fan.Starts off with "Kick Out The Jams" and "Come Together".As the gig progresses,one notices several covers,like James Brown's "Cold Sweat",Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" and Cream's "Born Under A Bad Sign".One of my all-time MC 5 favorites are here,"I Want You".Wanted to mention this appears to be a straight-on through concert.No snippets of the best of a half-a-dozen shows.Don't you hate it when bands do that?At least without noting it on the CD's back cover?A real find for MC 5 fans.

Noisey, live, raw.......2003-11-15

This is noisey. The sound quality is not great, but it's good enough. Everything on here is heavy and wild. You get a nice cross-section of the 5's material-James Brown, Straight ahead hard rock, and wild heavyy rock takes on Jazz-this is a one of a kind.

Good Live rock 'n roll.......2003-07-07

This CD is pretty good... the quality isn't excellent, but overall it is a good example of the MC5 live. This CD was recorded before Kick Out the Jams... and it is a bit more raw than the album. I recommend this to a true fan of MC5... or rock and roll and pre-punk rock.

A Great Album.......1999-04-09

Starship is a great loud album. It starts out with the great song Kick Out The Jams. Half way into the song, they loose the beat for a couple of seconds, and then pull it back. Great Punk! Also, Tutti Fruity is an absolute rollercoaster out of control.

Stay Alive with the MC5!!!!.......1999-01-19

This recording is yet another low-fi quality live issue from John Sinclair's MC5 vaults. Highly recommended for fans of this high energy, kick *** band. Would have been 5 stars, but, considering that it's probably a crowd recording (note the ambiance), the quality is so lax that it robs the mc5 of their power.

Who has ever heard of Charles Wilp? Well, it's -yet another- german composer/artist/photographer that was ahead of it's time when he did his stuff. (Just like Peter-Thomas Sound Orchester or the 70-ties music from german and austrian soft-porn movies, schulmadchen) The stuff he did was kitschy pop that fits right into the description of easytune. The label ata tak gathered some of the best easytune/downtempo artists of the world and asked them to remix some of his work. Names like Pizzicato 5, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Tipsy, Stereo Total, Elektrotwist and Metrophonics make this 76:46 album a real feast. Some genuine easytune (track 4 by Metrophonics, brilliant) or actual elektro (track 12) make this a very consistent yet varied dance/downtempo album.

superior nu-pop.......2000-05-16

While no classic, this cd - a remix album of the easy-listening "Bunny", from 1968 - features some spectacular examples of the remixer's art. Expect kitsch pop, house and general techno-lite mayhem in a delicious conglomeration.

MC 5 - 'American Ruse' (Total Energy).......2004-11-04

Most of the tunes on this CD are left overs and out-takes from the band's 'Back In The USA' lp recording sessions.You know,cutting room floor material.But for the true MC 5 fan,it's okay.With a total of fourteen tracks,only a few are a bit muffled-sounding.The cuts I liked best are "Human Being Lawnmower",the hard-hitting "Looking At You","Teen Age Lust" and "Black To Comm".Pretty much aimed at MC 5 die-hard fans.

Historically Important but Sonically Disappointing.......2001-09-25

The music is great and it's nice to hear different recordings that are closer to the ideal sound of what the MC5 should have sounded like in the studio as opposed to the official "Back In The USA" release. But I was disappointed with these muffled recordings. Supposedly, the studio tracks were digitally transferred and remastered from the original tapes, but after listening to it, it's hard to believe. I would expect this kind sound from a bootleg, but not an officially released CD. If you have the three original studio albums from the MC5, then this is the next logical step. However, if you're looking for something that will withstand repeated listening on a regular basis, then you should probably experiment with something else.

Rougher & Rawer versions of songs on Back in the USA.......2000-02-21

Most of the songs on their 2nd studio album "Back in the USA" are watered-down pop junk. The American Ruse gives us different versions of the same songs, but more in the style you would expect from MC5.

A good way to get aquainted with the MC5.......1999-09-11

This CD is a good CD to get if you are interested in getting a feel for the roots of american punk. Just before the Stooges, the real first punk band, there was the MC5. Although Detroit isn't usually thought of as the birthplace of punk rock, the MC5 give it a berth in punk rock legend. Worth a try, though a little repetitive. May be better for the more serious MC5 fans out there!
