who gets the last laugh...scooter and fans.......2006-08-14
this is to all fans and dance fanatics alike. i read the review at the top of this section from the person who gave a bad review of scooter. any scooter fan can tell you what scooter are all about, for those who dont know allow me to tell you. since the day they started they have been well known for there abilaty to remix any song and make it fantastic (e.g. the logical song). they create there own songs or remix other traks, either way they do it good. the latest album 'whos got the last laugh now' has got some great tunes on it with some definate scooter feel to it , at times you get classic feels to a track and even modern feels. more to the point it is a great album that will send chills down your spine, its thanks to this album the latest live tour is released also offering a mind blowing experiance this is a must have album for all fans and other dance fans you will love this album.
WHO'S GOT THE LAST LAUGH NOW?.......2006-04-16
Apparently Scooter does, because they're making lots of money off of their worst album ever!
Scooter has created some absolutely amazing albums in the past, all way ahead of their time like "Wicked!", "The Age of Love" and "Back to the Heavyweight Jam". Since Jay Frog joined the band to replace Axel Coon in 2002, the band has lost its touch. Yes, obviously somehow, with Jay Frog they created one of their best albums ever, "The Stadium Techno Experience", but it's only gone downhill from there. The only good song since that album has been One (Always Hardcore). This album seems to be geared more towards commercialism, plagiarizing A LOT from bad pop songs. There is little creativity in this album compared to others.
LIGHTS OUT: This is a total rip-off of Sirius by the Alan Parsons Project. It's just an electronic version with a woman singing notes.
HELLO! (GOOD TO BE BACK): This is the only good song on the album. This is a rip-off of the Gary Glitter song with an interesting techno melody in the middle. It's a good pump-up song. But seriously, it's the only good song on the album.
PRIVELEGED TO WITNESS: Remember "Walking on the Moon" by The Police? Yes, you guessed it: they use a high-pitched vocal to copy the exact same melody and lyrics for this song, with some daft lyrics MC'd by frontman H.P. Baxxter.
ROCK BOTTOM: This song is stolen from one of Scooter's own songs, Maria. It employs the "dub-dub" technique, except much more boring. No excitement in this song.
THE LEADING HORSE: The Leading Horse is taken from two pop songs. The rhythm is based off of a 50 Cent song, while the high-pitched vocals melody is based off of The Four Horsemen by Axxis. It's a rap song, basically. Not even techno. Dreadful.
TAKE ME BABY: This song is so stupid I can't believe that Scooter would stoop to this level. The lyrics are extremely sappy and pop-song-esque. Not to mention that it's just plain boring. Maybe the bit in the middle is OK but the refrain is sung really badly by H.P.
APACHE: Gee, I wonder where this song is from! How about "Apache" by The Ventures? This is an instrumental song that copies and pastes the guitar riffs from the original song into the Scooter song.
SEE ME, FEEL ME: So, this song starts out with the high-pitched vocals by saying "See me feel hear me love me touch me". That should tell you something immediately. The B-section of this song is somewhat decent, but that's all that there is worth listening to.
UNITY WITHOUT WORDS, PT. 3: The percussion opening of this song is way too long. This trance song, unlike many of their others is just way too repetitive. Unlike "Level One", "Rhapsody in E", or "R U :-)?" this song just lacks the creativity that others didn't.
EVERLASTING LOVE: This song is lifted from the 1987 "Everlasting Love" by Sandra. There is a second-hand of a clock ticking throughout a lot of the song, which is kind of odd. However, the piano heard on the original song is just like the original song, and once again, we have the high-pitched vocals singing the same cheesy lyrics as the original as well.
SEVEN BRIDGES: Once again, we have silly lyrics by H.P. Baxxter again, with a repetitive bass. This song has piano interludes that sound like they're from some bad pop song, with the fake crowd singing along "la-la" style in the background.
MESMERIZED: This song isn't too bad; it has a nice melody, but it just takes a long time to get there and requires a lot of patience by the listener. It has an odd sort of electro-jazz-fusion-techno bit in the middle, with some electronic female voice repeating something incomprehensible.
Perhaps this review is a bit cynical, but the truth is that with the exception of "Hello!" this album is NOT worth your money. More than half of the songs are rip-offs of other songs not by Scooter. I really hope Scooter doesn't continue to go downhill. Maybe it is the addition of Jay Frog - who knows? It could also be that they're just finished creating good songs. It would be a shame to see such talent go to waste.

Techno the way it should be.......2006-03-16
I remember I bought this CD back when we had budget surpluses and gasoline was cheaper than air. Recently, as I moved, I found this CD stuck in one of the racks, and decided to take it with me for a ride.
It's a really nice slice of Techno, and somehow Misjah made 25 very diverse tracks fit into one disc. Each tune play for about 2-3 minutes, but somehow still plays to the fullest, and transitions are skillful and creative. The disc starts with deeper, slower tunes, then after about track 9 picks up the pace, and from then on it's banging. Not many mixes focused on one label are diverse enough, but this one is.
Hard Techno at its Best.......2003-01-06
I saw DJ Misjah and DJ Tim play live at a rave one time and they blew me away. Their set was very hard and minimal. This CD was exactly what I expected to hear and has become one of my favorite CDs. Note that most of the tracks on this CD were produced by DJ Misjah and some in conjucnction with DJ Tim and Groovehead. However, this is a mixed CD of his original tunes. I just wished DJ Misjah would release more CD's for those of us who don't have record players.
good.......2000-03-30
if you want to buy this album because you've heard
and want more, don't expect too much. misjah has moved a bit from acid trance to techno for quite some time. this cd shows just that. it still has very hard beats, good build ups and tracks towards the end get quite "acid." basically... a very good cd. just not "acid" enought for me.
classic techno beats for an hour.......1999-06-25
the transition of the mix is just what makes Misjah famous. Cool sound on 25 tra(x)s

What a Gem..........2007-06-09
If you are into this genre of music you will really enjoy this CD. The songs I like the most are the ones that are the transitional type going from EBM, and New Beat to Rave.
Lots of useless tracks, but the good ones make up for it.

Amazing and Rarefied.......2004-04-23
I just got the FPU disc in the mail yesterday and I've been listening to it pretty much non-stop. On the way to work I felt refreshed, driving to Seven of Nine and Time Safari. At least half of the songs are incredible, and the rest are good. Not a single annoying or pretentious moment. Peter Benisch (the man behind FPU) exercises a lot of restraint, and consequently, the level of taste is nice and high. Finally, a CD that doesn't insult me or pander to me, and yet sounds so, so good! The melodies and textures are, at times, breathtaking. Especially in Seven of Nine and Crockett's Theme. This guy is one of the brightest lights in the Tech-Pop world.
between Swedish Lego architect & nouveau romanticist..........2003-03-15
You could easily call this the best electronic album of 2003 (so far, anyways). Regardless, FPU, moniker for Swedish mastermind Peter Benisch, has created a sound far beyond the more generic type practiced among his electroclash contemporaries---a sound all his own.
After listening to this album, his signature sound will be heretofore unmistakeable. Most songs are considerably downtempo. Much of the album starts off like a trance track, with thick, unaccented bass drums. Then, more high-pitched elements come in---synth-toms, high hats, snares and the like---and the sound is refined and moves toward a reflective, serene and futuristic melody. The best tracks use this bass drum sound coupled with a "chugging train" effect. This is a synth sound that quickly cycles perpetually, until the melody seeps in, kick-starting the song. "Crockett's Theme" is the best example.
The epic "Crockett's Theme" (put on numerous compilations) is one of the more lifting pieces. It seems a song of this caliber was meant to be, that it couldn't have been created at any other time than the one FPU happened to choose. And It does sound solemnly reminiscent to the 80's "Miami Vice" theme by Jan Hammer (the show soundtrack from which it was penned), while at the same time this and other tracks bring to mind more, like the Swedish landscape perhaps.
FPU's usage of a variety of vocoder sounds also personifies his sound. Tracks like "In the Future with Machines", "Time Safari" and "Seven of Nine" (a song proclaiming his fascination for a Star Trek character) show how nicely cold, squarewave vocals juxtapose with warm, analog synths. In "Racer Car", one of the more melodically-deprived songs, Benisch (FPU) uses his own voice.
This masterpiece reflects the electro sound, but in a much more sincere, subjective and most importantly, creative manner. None of the songs feature sassy, pretentious and obnoxious females bellowing about drugs, sex and success. FPU is more introspective. He's found himself in the place electro sounds best. This niche is hard to place; it's as if he's torn between Swedish Lego architect & nouveau romanticist revivalist.
Comparing FPU to other artists is difficult, attributing his sound to others even more so. However, when listening to this album, other synth-based 80's acts like Depeche Mode, Talk Talk, and Soft Cell come to mind. If this particular breed of electro interests you, also check into stuff like Carl Finlow, Silicon Scally, Metro Area, Arpanet, D'Arcangelo, and Bifrost.

Techno Fun.......2000-06-25
This CD contains a variety of old favorites redone as tech tracks. Much like the "kiddie techno" trend in the past few years, this CD draws on well-known themes, such as Star Trek, and makes them all kinds of fun and perfect for listening to while doing some late-night coding and drinking of Jolt Cola.

wow what do we have here.. "Hoodoo Talk" reissued with bonus tracks in a beautiful digipak! after all these years, the monstrous techno-funk of "Leather Hands" still enthralls and terrorizes. the other bonus tracks "Sugar Can You Feel The Drums?" and "Upbeat" are both brilliant. recommended for anyone interested in Cabaret Voltaire circa "The Covenant, The Sword And The Arm Of The Lord".

Invariably one of the first names to pop up when discussing the roots of techno, Juan Atkins took nearly two decades to put out his first-ever mix CD. He is affectionately known as the Godfather of Techno, and this 19-track collection traces the evolution of the genre through the Detroit-based innovator's ears, retaining his antithetic and mechanical style each step of the way. Among the selections here are vital cuts from Atkins's alias Model 500 ("No UFOs") and pal Derrick May's Rhythm Is Rhythm ("Nude Photo")--the very foundations of contemporary electronic music. Essential listening. --Aidin Vaziri
Customer Reviews:
Great Selection, terrible mixing.......2003-09-25
No doubt at all the Juan is a great selector of tunes and a great techno artist, but his mixing on this album is not slightly bad, but down right anoying. I cannot believe he sent this out to press. OK, so he hasnt used any software to mix them, but if your gonna produce a mix album on two turntables, at least know how to use them.
Sharevari and Techno Education.......2001-05-29
To those of you who don't appreciate Sharevari: The techno you love would probably not exist without it. Techno is relatively young, and Sharevari, dating back to 1981 (i think) is CRUCIAL to techno becoming its own style and genre. Without Sharevari, well, techno wouldn't be where it is today, and, knowing this, as well as the significance of the good majority of the tracks on the mix, it is hard to judge him for his minor slips. This is the history of detroit techno mixed. If you like techno i wouldn't RECOMMEND this Cd to you, i would FORCE you to buy it. The history of what you love. Dont get me started...
No more "education" please..........2000-10-12
There's definitely a place for old records, and I liked hearing some of this stuff again. But really, DJ's need to get over "educating the crowd" and just play good records. Not that most of the records on here aren't good, but a lot of them had their particular time and place, and as usual, Juan seems intent on covering too much ground in too short of a time (at least he didn't play "Numbers" on this one, which he seems to every time I see him live.) This CD seems to exemplify why a lot of Detroit artists seem to have a hard time putting out a really good full length release. And we all know Juan ain't the greatest DJ, but as another reviewer said, it's about time we started getting real DJ mixes like this instead of a bunch of cheezy Pro Tools trance edits.
Classics from the master.......2000-06-11
4 Stars for quality of track selection, -1 star for sloppy mixing... you should get this though. Put it in your CD player (or on your TT) and get yourself educated. The vinyl version is unmixed so you DJ's can collect all those classics (and that yummy instant-classic Maurizio track). The 'top 500' reviewer who said Sharevari is "cheeze" obviously does not understand the roots of Techno. Sharevari is actually one of the reasons I have this album on CD and vinyl. Don't pay attention to those who don't understand... pick this up today.
Wax Trax was pretty tight.......2000-03-29
The cd was pretty tight.Being a ghetto dj from Detroit We still spin No Ufos, and my favorite sharivari. Whoever said sharivari was cheezy, certainly is not a techno/house fan and fo dam sho aint from around here. All these people talkin about real detroit techno like they heard it before, dont know nothin bout it.Juan Atkins represented on this one!
