5 out of 5 stars Rock en español presente!.......2007-05-10

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC Spanish Rock.......2007-02-24

This is one of the best audio CD's I own...it is so old that it makes it so avant garde. This CD I find better than CORAZONES, which may be perceived as misogynistic in its lyrics. Either one is a great piece of music.

4 out of 5 stars Fine chilean production.......2006-06-08

Someone should tell the Argentine reviewer who said this CD is a ' lack of talent ' and childish songs to REALLY listen to it, maybe again and draw a more educated conclusion. It is very good, and represents an excellent version of one of Chile s better groups of contemporary work

It isn t very complex music, like Yes, or Chile s Los Blops ( really recommended from 1970, 71 & 73 ) or the melodic Lucybell of now and the 1990 s

But it is a very personal account of music that was creatd when Chile was in a reduced state of expression: MIlitary dict. This isn t the place to talk about that period of time. There are many books to document one s self on that. but the most important thing - and this is what really surprises me of the very negative review I read below - is that Prisioneros reunited in 2001 for a blow out tour of Chile, South america and the US, that N one ever thought they would do. It surprised even the most naive.

This cd is an excellent compilation of their music, which being a very straight ahead 4 / 4 type of rock, has grooves and melodies that only THEY did, and have put Chile in a state of ecstasy since they returned in 2001. Now, they split again in early 2005, and they are pursuing intriguing solo careers. Cheers to them. Salud amigos

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant band - Hidden Gem .......2005-08-03

This is one of the best cd's I've ever had the pleasure of listening to, it's a great introduction to these legendary Chilean rockers. If you're into 80's synth or just 80's music, you should give this a listen.

It's a great compilation of a great band.
In addition of their best music you will find special Edits and remixes not available anywhere else. If that's not all, the album seems to be out of print in most major markets. This is a great opportunity to have this CD as part of your collection before it's gone forever.

5 out of 5 stars Latinoamérica Vive.......2004-05-25

5 out of 5 stars Viva Chile!.......2003-04-08

5 out of 5 stars buen puñado de canciones.......2003-01-13

5 out of 5 stars Essential 80's Rock.......2002-12-02

Great anthology! Great selections! Los prisioneros have some of the best protest lyrics. This is like 80's post punk rock. The best tunes are "El baile de los que sobran", "Paramar", "Quien mato a marylin", "muevan las industrias", "tren al sur" and "amiga mia". This is classic!

4 out of 5 stars Nowhere does it say digitally remastered...........2006-10-03

I own this original masters 2 cd set and let me say that the quality of the sound is nothing to brag about as far as digital mastering and restoration is concerned BUT for the price you get the last two albums(in their entirety) the band put out during their 80's run, you will notice the difference from themes and sound that the band took by splitting from the Cultura de la Basura album to Corazones...AND this is the original version of Cultura de la basura without WE ARE SUDAMERICAN ROckers (or however you spell it) but its a trove for any fan of music since it is the original raw recording that came out in Chile only, the biggest proof is the vocals on PaPaPa, which is done very differently here to the version found in Antologia and the regular edition of this album

5 out of 5 stars Has All Their Best Music.......2004-07-31

These Guys know how to rock. They come from Chile. I have known los prisioneros since only 2003 because I come from new York and here in the In the USA you do not hear there music on spanish radio satations. They are a very local group. This cd contains all their good music with some of the best songs like Sexo which is one of my faviotes to Muevan Los industrias which is another one of my faviotes. And this cd is a double cd which is better for the money than like the Grandes Extios. Which is one cd and has only 12 songs. This cd pack has a lot more to offer for the money. Grupo Los prisioneros formed in 1979 and they recorded their first cd a yaer before I was born in 1980. If you are looking for new rock music because you are just sick and tired of Grupo La Ley or Grupo Mana then Grupo Los prisioneros will float your boat.

5 out of 5 stars La Cultura De La Basura: The forgotten album..........2006-09-14

This is Los Prisioneros third studio album recorded in 1987. The problem with this album was not the music...it was what was happening in Chile during the late 1980's.

The dictator Pinochet was up for a plebiscite election, Los Prisioneros were asked if they were voting for a YES to keep him as the dictator of Chile or a NO to overthrow him...they said they would vote for the NO.

(Note: to learn about Pinochet, and Los Prisioneros check out the extensive Wikipedia articles.)

This meant the album would not sell well, the extensive South American tour would almost be completely cancelled except for a one digit number of shows and they would receive zero radio airplay. This is exactly what happened. This is what kept this album from becoming their biggest hit...censorship. Now after telling you this, I can move on to the album.

The album shows a very diverse Los Prisioneros, in their first album we saw that they could Rock, with synthesizers far/low in the mix. In their second album we saw they could play rock AND put their Synthesizers in the front of their music, leaving their guitars more behind in the mix. La Cultura De La Basura showed us they could do a combination of all they had done from 1984-1986 and present us with something completely new in 1987. The engineer who worked on the album did a fantastic job as well, the sound is amazingly crystal clear even with all the layers, especially with songs that include a variety of percussion in the background. Also, for the first time, they bought an EMAX sampler. Which allowed them to play samples in the music which they never did on the previous two albums making the album feel a lot fuller around the edges.

If I had to describe this album with genres I would say something like "Melodic 80's New Wave Rock with Straightforward Lyrical Content"

The album was re-released finally on CD in 1995 along with all their first 4 albums "La Voz De Los '80" (1984), "Pateando Piedras" (1986), "La Cultura De La Basura" (1987) and "Corazones" (1990).

Now jumping into the year 2006, this album is praised just as highly as their previous two albums, during the 90's Chile was no longer under a dictatorship and they were able change and enjoy life, appreciation for this album flourished in the 1990's. Now the moment you've all been waiting for, a summary:

La Cultura De La Basura is truly a great album, Los Prisionero's efforts to make such an ambitious record was just perfect. The lyrical content varies from various topics but it flows flawlessly and the melody while hard to hear the first time, is highly influential and will stay stuck in your head until you listen carefully and understand the album. From then on, the album will flow easily and you probably won't want to change into a certain track as the album feels as a whole.

Now, after reading this, it is up to YOU to decided what YOU think of the album. I just gave you MY opinion. If Amazon does not have a copy available, no worries...using search engines you can easily find this album online to purchase brand new. I hope this helps a little bit, as well as provide a historical background on why on earth this album never picked up so well. Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars brings back childhood memories!.......2005-06-10

I was like 8 years old when I first heard of this band from Chile, and my mom bought me the cassette version of this album back in like 1988. I love this album, it's pop-y, catchy and fun to sing along with (that's if you speak spanish). The best thing is that it just brings back my childhood memories!
Definitely a cd worth checking out just for the fun of it!

    5 out of 5 stars A Classic.......2007-05-18

This Album is a perfect mix between Social angst and ridicule. People that are into powerful lyrics and inspiring music owe it to themselves to listen to this album. There are also several other excelent albums from "Los Prisioneros". I recomend: "Corazones" (Hearts) and "La Cultura de la Basura" (Garbage Culture)...the latest albums are more synthetic in sound. I would also check out their self titled album, it takes time to get used to some songs, but you end up appreciating it.

Overall "Patiando Piedras" and "Corazones" are their best albums, the first being social and the second being romantic. Buy them.
