Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars As intended in 1966.......2003-12-13

The title track "Arullo de Dios" is a sentimental song that reflects one mans universal wish for the advancement of his children. It is a touching song that shows the other side of Jose Alfredo, a man who placed and idlolized his children above all else. This super disc stems from a 1966 recording that finds El Rey displaying his tender side and is full of songs that are as touching as they are beautiful. Since no information is given and you might be looking for a particular song I will list the tracks, 1. "Arrullo De Dios" 2. "Corazon"! 3."Yo No Se Matar" 4. "Al Pie De La Montana" 5."Pidele a Dios" 6. "Que Suerte La Mia" 7. "Oi Tu Voz" 8. "Cuando Los Anos Pasan" 9. Cuando vivas Conmigo" 10. "Amor Del Alma" 11. "Camino Viejo" 12. "Palabras Al Cielo."All twelve songs are Jose Alfredo compositions backed by the outstanding band that was essentially at his disposal for recording, Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan, under the direction and arrangement of Ruben Fuentes. The name of God(Dios) is mentioned on several tracks and used on another song entitled "Pidele a Dios" that has a soft swing to it, not exactly folkloric like many of his songs but more like sixties movie theme music. There is a sort metaphysical exploration on this disc that goes beyond our lives as heard on "Oi Tu Voz" in which El Rey here's a lovers voice far away that brings tears(he actually gives it that chocked up sound as he sings) to him as he felt her love and hurt from far away. As usual for El Rey he sings of heatbreak which was one of his favorite themes. "Cuando Los Anos Pasan" is one such song as he testifies that in spite of everything her love will always be with him. Many of the songs featured on this disc are those that are most famous and on one of his many compilations. The beauty of a disc like this is that it is as the artist intended it to be, a small musical statement centered around several themes. One of my personal favorites is "Camino Viejo" in which El Rey speaks of the hurt and that if she has left than to leave him in peace. The disc is closed with "Palabras Al Cielo" in which El Rey speaks of words that can only be expressed in eternity. There is sadness in many of the songs but a certain optimism prevails as El Rey finds solace in things greater than relationships that failed. El Rey sings of amor(love), rencor(bitterness), seguridad (security) and "injusticia sentimental" (sentimental injustice) within a framework of looking to the future. The universal appeal of his lyrics will continue to be discovered for generations to come.A true bargain for the price and a must for collectors of Jose Alfredo Jimenez material.
