4 out of 5 stars Thats where the happy people Go!.......2006-07-09

THE TRAMMPS actually have several Best Of collections, as well as the "original" albums with many of the original hits available on CDs around the music market. LOVE EPIDEMIC extended mix on original cover CD.

3 out of 5 stars Some are edits.......2006-03-10

While the selections are timeless classics, be warned. 3 of 4 songs I ordered it for, "Love Has Come Around", "Harmony" and "Fantasy", are single edits. At least the Trammps cut is the long version.

4 out of 5 stars SOME GREAT MEMORIES!.......2001-03-23

This is a great collection of very hard to find classics. It brought back some "disco dancefloor" moments from the past. Especially noteworthy are "Victim" by Candi Staton, "The Night The Lights Went Out" by Trammps, and "Harmony" by Suzi Lane. Most of these songs are extended mixes and very hard to find, especially on CD. So where is Volume 2? A suggestion for the next volume is the full album mix of "That's Where The Happy People Go" by Trammps. If anyone knows where I can find that on CD, please let me know.

4 out of 5 stars Great Dance Classics!.......2000-06-28

What a great album. I bought this for the Womack cut (the best song on the album) but soon got into its other songs: the song about the NY blackout in the 70s, "The Night the Lights Went Out," the tropical-sounding "The Real Thing" and the superb "Love Has Come Around." If you love 70s dance hits and are looking for obscure but good stuff you can't go wrong here. Many of these songs are very hard-to-find otherwise.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Yodeling.......2004-12-11

One of my first acts as Curator-in-Chief of the Museum of Bad Art in Dedham, MA was to create the Music Division to honor work such as this.

5 out of 5 stars This is a keeper - still laughing.......2004-05-16

I collect 'gagger' music including Mrs. Elva Miller, Annette Funicello, Hayley Mills, The Wicked Good Band/Maine Cookin', Tammy Faye Bakker singing the "Ballad of Jimmy and Tammy", etc.

Yodeling the Classics was added to the top of this list. Lots of fun to listen to and well produced. Great cross-country road music travelin' the 2 lane highways of America in my trusty Jeep Wrangler.

Need to copy this CD to my wire recorder.

5 out of 5 stars 5 stars for sheer entertainment!.......2002-01-23

I hear Mary Schneider and I laugh. First and foremost, let me just say that I respect the art of yodeling, and that Mary Schneider does it better than anyone. However, the musical audacity of taking Bizet, Rossini and Strauss and yodeling "Carmen", "William Tell" and "The Skater's Waltz" is absurd. It has served as a great party laugh, and has caused many person to wheeze with laughter!! Mary Schneider has vocal dexterity that defies belief, but the musical grace of a manatee on land!! Buy it for laughs, buy it for yodeling, whatever, just buy it!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Remarkable virtuosity.......2001-12-12

As I had never heard of or seen Mary Schneider, I first thought this was going to be a joke record, as I had come across it while looking up Elva Miller, the popular off key singer of the 50's; however, Ms. Schneider delivers it straight (most of the time) and this is a remarkably melodious collection of classical music and popular waltzes. Although the classical renderings were interesting, I prefered the waltzes, and certainly would like to hear more of the simpler pieces. Because of Amercia's fragmented radio stations, it is unlikely Ms. Scheider will ever be heard on radio here, other than a station specializing in polka, which is a pity. Maybe she will produce a yodelling country album so we could hear more of her!

2 out of 5 stars More like "Strangling the Classics while wearing lederhosen".......1999-04-22

Having heard "Mary" squall for an hour, I decided to remove my eardrumms with a coathanger(which might I add was less painfull).

"Classical crossover" albums are big business these days; discs that combine elements of folk or pop vocals with classical music. But here's one for the record books: "Australia's Queen of Yodelling," Mary Schneider, transforming some best-loved arias into something entirely her own. You get a little Rossini, a taste of Strauss, a hint of Brahms, and some Beethoven, but--more than anyone else--you get a lot of Schneider. She sings, she jokes, she yodels, and--throughout the whole mess--she's hilarious. The Sydney International Orchestra is led by the conducting prowess of Maestro Tommy Tycho. Classical lovers with a sense of humor--make that anyone with a sense of humor--need to hear this. Schneider is a jewel, and this, without a doubt, is the best yodelling CD you'll hear all year. --Jason Verlinde

Wonderful music for all who love Yodeling! A special song for every mood I'm in. A treasure every time I hear it.

5 out of 5 stars Offbeat But The Musianship is Very Good! And Fun!.......2006-09-02

This performance is "offbeat" to say the least. Many people, including myself, laugh when they first hear Ms. Schneider yodelling! But, after awhile, you come to realize that this lady is a true musician. She sings in-tune and with spirit and soul! And, she does have a beautiful soprano voice when she sings. I think you'd enjoy this CD! I do! Email is gourmet72141@yahoo.co

5 out of 5 stars A must have CD.......2006-02-02

First of all, the disclaimer. I found out about this CD by consulting a website which suggested things to force people to listen to while they are restrained in erotic bondage. The intent there was no doubt less than complimentary.

That said, however, I've found it to be a marvelous album which I listen to often. It should, in most cases, be played at full volume through as many speakers as are available.

I was allowed to use it only once at my local adult social club, at the end of the night when it was time to let the lovebirds know it was time to head home to their own roost. It wasn't popular that night, although it was effective.

Many a time it has helped me to get through the drudgery of household chores, doing laundry, washing dishes, and so forth, with a smile on my face.

More than once, having driven up close to a car playing heavy bass thumping contemporary music I've put Mary's CD on my car player and pumped it also to full volume, and left my younger compatriots in the next car stunned.

Recommended.

Nothing in my life had prepared me for the experience of listening to Mary Schneider's interpretation of the William Tell Overture or the Overture to Carmen. Florence Foster Jenkins has her devotees, and Signor Moreschi a small - I presume - band of worshippers, but Mary Schneider is without peer.
I freely admit that such has been the emotion which her resolute interpretation of the pieces I have mentioned roused in me that I have as yet been unable to continue listening to the subsequent tracks. You will have to discover for yourselves these doubtless equally unforgettable offerings from a unique talent.

I think the previous reviewers have stated this perfectly. I came by on this record when i was looking for a cover version of Marvin gaye's "Inner City Blues". Out of curiosity i decided to check this CD out. Started on track 1 and then went to the end, then came to track - don't it drive you crazy - "The pointer Sisters" number. and then played it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again......... and again!

Man, what a record. Awesome stuff, if your tired of all the stuff and your entire collection of gadzillion CDs, mp3, wma and have become bored or complacent with your music collection and are looking for a kickstart.

This is the CD you want!! I am now going for the entire series.

Lovely stuff, very cool music!................. and again! :)

You Just Start Saying ... Man, man, man (or another much stronger swear word ;-)

It's just brilliant, freakin' great. How do you try to put down in words the tastiest, funkiest, most soulful, most righteous, music?

This isn't just a blast from the past - this is a freakin' time machine that will lift you up and transport you to another time and place. Do not listen on your iPod - you will not pay attention and be hit by a 1975 Ford Torino :-)

OMG. How much better do you wanna get?! The whole Pulp Fusion series is BEAUTIFULLY AMAZING. (Along with the whole entire Harmless label) Start it off with v.1. An oop hard to find disk. Look, I have 315 GB of music on my Mac, which equals over 30,000 songs... THIS SERIES IS WHAT I'D PICK TO LISTEN TO OVER ANYTHING.

      4 out of 5 stars Volume 1 of a great series.......2003-03-22

The Pulp Fusion series has continued for a few years now, and as of this writing there are seven volumes. The first is somewhat different than the others, in that it clocks in at a longer running time, and instead of an "organic jazz" approach, a lot of the tracks employ weird electronic touches. It's not my favorite volume, but it's a great start for the series.

My favorite tracks: Johnny "Hammond" Smith does one of the best break/funk tunes ever, with "Shifting Gears;" the Pointer Sisters (of all people!) coo over the almost trip-hoppish "Don't It Drive You Crazy;" Booker T & The MG's combine soul strut with Spaghetti-Western twang on "Melting Pot;" Minnie Ripperton sings as beautifully as ever, while an acid-rock guitar plays the blues on "Every Time He Comes Around;" SOUL combines funky flute with a groovy beat on "Burning Spear;" Herbie Hancock (with the Head Hunters in tow) gets weirdly funky on the almost-electronica "Hang Up Your Hang Ups;" and Lonnie Smith stretches out "Afrodesia" for several minutes of psychedelic funk.

Personally I find other volumes to be more interesting, but Volume 1 is a perfect introduction to the Pulp Fusion series.

5 out of 5 stars Here the Pulp Fusion begins..........2001-06-07

This album cements the style, uniqueness and grandioso of the entire Pulp Fusion series (5 in all now). And what a way to begin. This album is full of funky life and jazzy grooves to tantalize your soul and move your body in silent understanding of the true feeling of 70's sound.

From Johnny Hammonds smooth opening "Shifting Gears", to the crazy and brilliant "Chitterlings con Carne" performed by Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers, to the soulful "Dont It Drive You Crazy" (Pointer Sisters). This album, only 3 tracks in, has you hooked. And there is more in store, as the next several tracks pull you further into the depths of 70's funk; the opening bass line and cymbals of "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" and a minute and a half in the jazzy sounds of the sax; the classic "Melting Pot" by Booker T and The MGs, with its simple, effective conglomeration of sound; the soulful sounds of Minnie Riperton in "Every Time He Comes Around" and the teriffic flute enchanting and funky "Burning Spear". To top the lot though, we cannot forget the legendary Herbie Hancock, who appears on this compilation performing "Hang Up Your Hang Ups"; a top little number of jutty, crisp sounds fused with mellow keyboard and big sound.

This is a teriffic compilation of jazz, funk and soul tracks staright from the heart of the "Tough Side". These are fun sounds and maximum enjoyment is achieved from just one listen. Thanks must go to the producers, who have hit the funky nail on the head here with their first compilation in this series.

If you're into funk music or you want to experience something new that will open your eyes to original sound, then buy this CD and any in the Pulp Fusion series. This is a great place to start, "Pulp Fusion, Vol. 1: Funky Jazz Classics & Original Breaks from the Tough Side". The title says it all...

      5 out of 5 stars Essential.......2000-02-23

This is absolutely the best funk album iv'e ever heard. A brilliant mix up of vocal and instrumental slease. "burning spear" is just a mass of pure flute heaven. It's a goldmine of rarities and gems that compliment a late night session perfectly. This has far more depth and qualty than pulp fusion 2 , or any other fusion album that iv'e come across.

5 out of 5 stars The Groove They Couldn't Kill - Ghetto Jazz & Funk.......1998-07-18

This is one mother of an album full of breaks that burnt your boots and not forgetting the bass that began the rather nasty bladder problem that's baffled your Doctor for the last year.

Its back and it badder than a 1972 Harlem pimp's birthday party.

Tracks 1 and 8 are the baaadest-assed grooves known to science thanks to Dr Herbie Hancock with Wiggle Waggle and O'Donel Levy with Bad Bad Simba.

One listen to this album and you will turn in to one bad ass mother. You'll make Shaft look like a pussy cat.

Get a Caddy, Grow an Afro, Get a Piece, Turn on this CD and Return to The Tough Side.
