BMG/RCA ARIOLA DE MEXICO has put together a great compilation of Beny More's Mexican tour (1945-1952) and also included some of his RCA Havana recorded sessions with his own band and that of Ernesto Duarte. It is great that "occasionally shelved" hit songs like "Las Posadas", "La Maricutana" and "Loca Pasion, by Beny with Mariano Merceron Orch. were included in this compilation. Although more of these rare sessions with Merceron should've been included, this is a "handy to have" compilation, 40 songs especially for those who are just getting to know "El Barbaro del Ritmo", Beny More and above all, the price is right!

This music will be nostalgic for any American who grew up watching Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball in "I Love Lucy." I loved this CD so much that I bought four copies and doled them out for Christmas presents. These Cuban boleros and mambos are incredibly danceable and singable.

Sin duda alguna esta es una de las mejores recopilaciones de la extensa obra musical de "EL SONERO MAYOR",aqui usted podra apreciar el incomparable "sabor" de los distintos generos de la musica cubana tales como el son montuno,la guaracha,el bolero y el mambo.Si usted,al igual que yo, es un apasionado a la musica cubana y tropical le recomiendo los discos: Ritmos de mi Cuba del pianista cubano Enrique Chia,ademas de El Trio Matamoros y El Septeto Nacional de Ignacio Pineiro los cuales no pueden faltar en su coleccion musical,bueno solo me queda desearle que disfrute de su musica y que comience a preparar sus pies pues ya casi es hora de BAILAAAAR.

          After a two year "drought" BMG/US Latin finally released this long awaited third and final sequel to Domingo Echevarria's Tropical Series, "The Very Best of Beny More", in which nothing but "first generation-virgin analog masters tapes" were used. This amazing CD also includes recordings from Beny More's 7 year stay in Mexico (1945 through 1952). There Beny joined Mambo King Perez Prado & His Orchestra, as well as Rafael de Paz, Chucho Rodriguez, Humberto Cane, Lalo Montane and Mariano Merceron and was recorded extensively with them by Rivera Conde's legendary RCA VICTOR MEXICANA. "Ensalada de Mambo", "Mamboletas", "Anabacoa", "Bonito y Sabroso" and forgotten mexican recording sessions classics, "Que Aguante" and "Deja Que Suba La Marea"(also featuring Tony Camargo) and "Desdichado" and "A Media Noche" featuring Beny More and Lalo Montane's "Dueto Fantasma", make this CD a valuable collector's item. A typical, brilliant sound and compilation product of Domingo Echevarria's BMG/RCA Tropical Series! "AHA!"

            Aside from being Buena Vista Social Club alumni, what else do Omara Portuondo and Eliades Ochoa have in common? They've both issued releases that include songs originally made famous by the great Beny Moré. After a successful Mexican tour with Conjunto Matamoros, the Cuban vocalist made his first big splash at the microphone of Pérez Prado's supercharged mambo machine (check out the overheated "Pachito E' Che 1950") before taking the reins of an orchestra of his own in 1954. Most Cuban singers are known for their deftness with the romantic bolero or the more aggressive mambo styles, but Moré excelled in both areas. On "Y Hot Como Ayer," recorded in 1955, he glides from a midregister croon to effortless trumpetlike glissandos, his big band pulsating behind him, while he plays a sonero to a T on 1957's "Que Bueno Baila Usted," one of many memorable songs he penned himself. This excellent introduction to Moré's career includes newly remastered songs originally released from 1949 to 1958. --Bob Tarte
