5 out of 5 stars A good Mexican music album.......2007-01-26

An album with passionante songs, color, life, energy and authentic Mexican spirit.
I like Vicente Fernandez voice, especially when he stresses some words in full voice and the voice sounds a bit rough.
Good music , good sound.

5 out of 5 stars A must have ............2004-12-23

This compilation with Historia de un Idolo 1 is a must have for every Vicente Fernandez fan, fans of rancheras, and those who love Mexican music. This CD contains some of his most popular songs like Volver, Volver and De Que Manera te Olvido. The 2 compilations Historia 1 & 2 also has sn interview with Vicente Fernandez in the cover and some wonderful pictures including him recieving his star on the Walk of Fame. I was fortunate to see him live in Madison Sq. Garden last October and I was amazed at his voice, still beautiful and powerful as ever. He sang for two and haft hours without intermission. He is indeed a legend.....

5 out of 5 stars A must have for fans of "El Rey"!.......2003-01-14

This CD is outstanding! Even those who burn thier own CD's would have a tough time putting together a greater collection of gutsy and classic Chente performances.
This disc includes perhaps his best-known and loved tune (Volver, Volver) and many other really superb songs ranging from very early to very recent in his career. In my view, great variety and choice of tunes from start to finish make this one of his best, better even than "Historia, Vol. 1" which is a very good CD as well. If you are a Vicente Fernandez fan but don't wish to go broke trying to purchase 50-plus CD's to get most of his greatest songs, one of your first Chente discs should be this one. "Historia De Un Idolo, Vol. II" easily earns five stars, even when compared to the rest of Chente's outstanding and abundant catalog of music.

5 out of 5 stars ROMANTICA.......2007-06-28

I thought this CD was banging. I love when XTREME comes up with romantic music to sit back and chill with your man/girl. I always listen to XTREME, they have such wonderful voices together.

1 out of 5 stars Cheesy, disappointing.......2007-05-31

The catchy, "Shorty, Shorty" prompted me to buy this disc. After my first listen I was dissappointed. After my second listen I was just plain irritated. Most of the cuts are unimaginative and feel very programmed, and really not very danceable - like something you would expect from apparently what is still considered a "boy band." The first and last cuts (intro and outro) are a complete waste - Why is the announcing of a baseball game on a bachata CD? And then there is the irritating line of "X - X - treme" on every single song! Don't waste your money like I did.

5 out of 5 stars Buena Bachata..........2007-05-16

This is a great CD for those of us who love the beat and pace of bachata. There are some beautiful love songs on the CD plus one reggetone/bachata combo that reveals another side to this duo, still enjoyable. Driving in Austin is stressful. For those of us who use music to 'calm' our road-rage tendencies, bachata fits my bill. It's great to add these voices to my 'goin' down the road' audio library.

3 out of 5 stars A couple hits, but the B side songs didn't measure up........2007-04-28

The B side songs were a little disappointing, and even had a different sound from thier radio hits.

Xtreme is still great!

4 out of 5 stars A good music group.......2007-03-26

I purchased "Haciendo Historia," since it has love songs which focus on real life scenarios -relationship wise. I would recommend this cd to girls and guys who enjoy music from a different sphere. The beat on all the songs is pretty much the same, doesn't change- though there are good selection of songs.

5 out of 5 stars Discover the greatest Mexican rock band ever..........2007-04-24

And also in the Top 5 of spanish rock of all times. This is a perfect compilation and it shows how it should be done, arranged chronologically and covering thoroughly all the albums the band ever released. Caifanes formed in the mid 80's in Mexico City and as you can hear on disc 1, had a very strong influence from the post-punk & goth movement from Britain (mainly The Cure). Caifanes was signed by BMG-Ariola on the wake of the rock in spanish explosion in Latin America and released their first album in 1988, the first four songs from disc 1 are drawn from that album. At first caifanes seemed like rest of the rock groups coming out at that time, they all had new wave influences, but a year later they released their breaktrough single "La Negra Tomasa" an afro-cuban standard song and gave it a cumbia beat with complicated guitar textures. This song was huge and became a standard at parties and weddings, the single was backed by the B-side "Perdi mi Ojo de Venado" also included here. Caifanes seemed to be destined to be a one-hit wonder, but in early 1990 they released the first single of their second album "El Diablito", the song was "La Celula que Explota" and blew everybody away. Caifanes showed that they were developing a style of their own, merging rock music with Mexican folklore and pre-hispanic mitholgy, the music still showed some influences from the Cure but they weren't so evident anymore. In 1992 Caifanes recorded their masterpiece "El Silencio", by this point they had completely develop their signature sound, standing out the work of Guitarist Alejandro Marcovich and the production of Adrian Belew, the first half of disc 2 includes the songs from this album. After touring extensively during 1992-93, founding members Sabo Romo and Diego Herrera left the group. Recording as a trio, Caifanes released their fourth and last album in late 1994. "El Nervio del Volcan" showed the maturity of the band and a tendency towards hard rock, though it lacked the urgency and emotiveness of the first three albums. In 1995 tensions between leader and vocalist Saul Hernandez and Alejandro Marcovich broke up the band. In 1996 Hernandez brought drummer Alfonso Andre and "La Barranca" members Jose Manuel Aguilera and Federico Fong and recorded the first album from "Jaguares", the continuation of Caifanes basically. "El Equilibrio" was a great debut album but the quality of subsequent albums by Jaguares started to decrease.
This compilation is a perfect introduction to this great band and if you love them I suggest you to start with "El Diablito" from 1990 and "El Silencio" from 1992.

4 out of 5 stars great copilation BUT...........2006-10-21

5 out of 5 stars A CLASSIC.......2006-07-18

simply the best this has to be in your colection if you are a real rock en spanol listener amazing collection simply the best

3 out of 5 stars Promete a futuro........2006-01-09

No me convence ningún tema, excepto "afuera".

5 out of 5 stars La Voz Romantica de Mexico ... Powerful.......2005-07-31

Outstanding music from the past to present. Awesome memorabilia set. There are songs on this CD that goes down in history forever.

Vicente's voice is smooth, expressive and passionate. All his music delivers his convictions of love in your ears.

A great CD to own. Pick up the second half of this two CD set, and get more from Doñ Vicente Fernandez and just lay back and listen.

5 out of 5 stars This is the one.......2004-12-08

This is the one Chente Cd you would want to have left in your car if your house burned down. This is the one you'll always come back to after staying out all night with those other 'viejas'. By the way I really wish they would put more info in the sleeves like lyrics or some nice sombrero poses. Please Don Chente, have someone 'fix' your website too, please?

5 out of 5 stars Incomparable !.......2004-11-10

A wonderful compilation of the most popular songs sung by the the legendary Vicente Fernandez. This album and Historia de un Idolo 2 is a must have for anyone that loves Vicente, musica ranchera or love Mexican music. His voice is incredibly beautiful, and powerful. I went to see him live in Madison Sq. Garden and he sounds exactly the same. His voice as beautiful as ever. He sang for 2 and a haft hours without intermission. Chente is in a class by himself. Incomparable !

4 out of 5 stars Excellent sampling of greats from"El Rey"!.......2003-01-23

This is another "must have" Chente CD with a bunch of his truly classic songs. Like one of the other reviewers said, Vicente Fernandez can be compared to Frank Sinatra in both his mastery and popularity in his chosen form of music. But even Frank did'nt have pipes like these! "El Rey" is in a class of his own.
Some of the best tunes here include the beautiful "Lastima Que Seas Ajena" and the powerfully mournful "Que De Raro Tiene". Still, the tops on this CD and one of his best ever is the heart-wrenching "Mi Viejo". It would take a rather heartless soul to not be moved by this song. It's that good.
As good as this collection is, I give it four stars only because overall, I like the song selection on "Historia, Vol. 2" a little better. This is, however, just my personal taste and most Chente fans will be very happy with either one of these discs. In fact, these two CD's would give a new Chente fan an excellent introduction to his music.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2002-10-27

This album is terrific. All of the songs take me back to the days of the old Mexican west, and Vincente seems to be living his songs as he sings them. I play this cd over and over, I can't get enough.

La Historia Continua Parte 3 is good (but not as good)
Razon de sobra, also excellent!
Trozos de Mi Alma is a good disc with some good tracks, and his DVD,

Even though I can't understand the words the music is sooo beautiful. I first heard Marco Antonio Solis on a Skating to Latin show. My Husband and I both fell in love with his voice and songs......I well be buying many more. You can't go wrong !!

5 out of 5 stars Buy it - You Won't Regret It.......2007-01-18

Marco Antonio Solis is timeless. I grew up on his original group, Los Bukis, never knowing who was the distinctive voice behind the band. Fifteen years and I don't know how many Latin Grammys later, the secret's out. Truly the hombre has a God-given gift. Enjoy!

Word to the wise: Those not fluent in Spanish should check out the lyrics - bad translations are widely available on the internet. Prepare to be floored.

4 out of 5 stars Superb Voice.......2006-03-08

Solis' voice and the orchestal arrangements are superb. Forget about watching the accompanying DVD & enjoy the CD exclusively. (I was disillusioned to see how old Solis is...he should have kept it a secret.)Also... an enclosed English translation would have been nice.I play this CD in my car quite often to maintain a mellow outlook.

GREAT CD YES I RECOMENT THIS ALBUM

5 out of 5 stars Creative, interesting.......2003-11-11

This salsa CD is extremely well done and has just enough creativity to make it stand out...The Spanish pronunciation of these non-Spanish speakers (who learned to sing the songs phonetically) is virtually flawless and one would never guess that they cannot actually speak Spanish. Great CD(...)

4 out of 5 stars Unbelievable! Japan is now a Caribbean country!.......1999-07-13

If you thought Latin music was a Latino-only trade secret, think again! These Japanese cook up a salsa better than some Latinos themselves! This album has beautiful brass, great arrangements, and a solid Latin feel that can only be produced by masters of the music, even if they are not Latino! Highly recommended for salsa lovers!

Many fine singers have come close, but Javier Solis is still regarded by many as the best bolero ranchera singer Mexico has ever produced. Since his death in 1966, there have been dozens of hit compilations. Luckily, this collection contains most of Solis's biggest hits: "Payaso," "Cenizas," "Sombras," "Media Vuelta," "Lloraras, Lloraras," and "Si Dios Me Quita la Vida." And while Solis got most of the credit, it's important to remember he worked with topflight producers, studio musicians, and, most critical of all, excellent song material from Rafael Ramirez ("Lloraras, Lloraras"), Luis Demetrio ("Si Dios Me Quita la Vida"), and Jose Alfredo Jimenez ("Media Vuelta"). But the combined power of vivid tearjerker songs enveloped in gorgeous mariachi arrangements is nothing without Solis's exquisite vocals and tough but compassionate stance. --Ramiro Burr

(Banda music for those of you that don't know it's a bunch of guys wearing a texan hat wearing the same kind of clothes with a bunch of strings on their shoulders, i guess to keep the flies off or something and it's like 20 guys it seems, lol when they can just take out a bunch of guys and create all those sounds with a synthesizer. They do a lil hop at the same time while they play and the singer sounds as if someone was choking him as he sang, lol Just look for these so called artists names...Montez de Durango or Banda Limon, and compare them with great mexican singers like Javier Solis, Pepe Aguilar or Alejandro Fernandez and you'll know what i'm talking about. When I tell friends that i don't like banda music they take it personal and they say that is because i've been in the USA for too long. I just tell them that when i was in Mexico these Banda groups didn't even exist not even that style of music existed, it all started happening on the 90's with their so called "quebraditas" which i think it would mean something like 'breakers',lol Any how getting back to the subject, I grew up as a kid in a small town in Jalisco Mexico called Autlan de Navarro during the 80's, it's about 2 or 3 hours south of Guadalajara. When I hear Javier Solis' music it takes me back there to that nice beautiful town, when my mom listened to it as she cleaned up the house or if we had a birthdate party. It would be pretty hard to top Javier Solis' voice I think and so far I don't know of anyone that has matched it.

5 out of 5 stars La Historia de Javier Solis.......2005-09-08

Wonderful music and great artist!!! I couldn't stop listening to it. I loved 'Mi Viejo San Juan'!! I purchased it for my mom who is born in Puerto Rico and when she listened to it I could tell that it took her back to her native land as she sang along with Solis. So glad that I found and purchased it! I had the opportunity to listen to it (via internet) and knew that it was what I was looking for. My family also loved it and wondered where I had found it.

3 out of 5 stars Javier is immortal!.......2004-12-17

Javier is, without a doubt, the greatest master of the bolero ranchero and Vicente Fernandez is a close second. There is nothing more to ask of him as a singer. Unfortunately, Columbia did not invest much money into his recordings until his last couple of albums....there is a huge difference in recording & musical quality between his unfinished tribute to Rafael Hernandez & the otherwise great album Payaso.

But, I'll tell you what would be fantastic....if Mexico City's incredible folk ensemble, Orquesta de la Ciudad, would record new arrangements for this music and edit in Javier's voice into the melody line....I would be willing to pay....$100 for it.

5 out of 5 stars why can't there be singers like this in our present day?.......2004-11-26

simply the best singer in mexico's history, if you like luis miguel's latest cd with vargas backing him up, do your homework and get everything there is of javier solis, you won't regret it, unless you like bad music like banda el retardo, or whatever, but definately brilliant, i dunno if it's his "media voz" or his unique style of interpretation of the songs, this is obviously the tear jerker, and belive me it's not the onions in your menudo. I mean this guy was one of frank sinatras favorites, that should tell you alot, oh yea, also, he recorded with the ny symphony for his "javier en NY" cd, which you should also get btw. he combined the best of what pedro infante had, and blended it with his own unique style which is of javier solis, there will never be another javier in history, but he did leave alot of homework for us musicians and vocalists

5 out of 5 stars It's the best cd anyone can have.......2003-08-05

This cd of javier solis has it all! It has some of the most popular songs anyone can have. It is simply the greatest. Even though this popular artist passed away his songs continue to embark the hearts of many people. I encourage anyone to buy this great cd

5 out of 5 stars Viva El Divo!.......2007-04-06

"La Historia del Divo" is a good overview of a legendary career and encompasses the many facets of Gabriel's genius, from the sweet "pop" sound of one of his greatest hits, "Querida," to the more traditional numbers which tend to be my favorites and use mariachi arrangements, like "No vale la pena," "Te voy a olvidar," and "Se me olvido otra vez." The big winner for me in this compilation is the glorious "Hasta que te conoci," with its slow orchestral build-up, meaningful lyrics, and Gabriel's plaintive, heart-wrenching vocal. Also an outstanding track is the final "Amor eterno," recorded live, and sung to his mother, and other mothers "mas lejos de aqui."

As one of Mexico's greatest and most prolific songwriters, with a strong, unique voice and charismatic performance style, few, if any, have reached the pinnacle of artistic achievement and international renown that Gabriel has had in his long career. The first in a lengthy string of hits for himself and so many other top stars was in 1971, when he was 21, with "No tengo dinero" (track # 2), and his melodic songs have an unlimited "shelf life," as Ana Gabriel had a Top 40 hit with this same song in 1995. And his creativity keeps shining brightly...viva El Divo! May he live long and prosper always. Overall sound is good, and total playing time is 68'53.

4 out of 5 stars Nice collection of Juan Gabriel's hits.......2007-02-18

I checked this CD out of the library. It has some of my favorite Juan Gabriel songs: Querida, Con Tu Amore, Siempre En Mi Mente, No Vale La Pena and Ya Lo Se Que Tu Te Vas. Nice CD.

5 out of 5 stars The Voice, Guitar and Feeling of Jose Feliciano.......2007-01-13

Every song on this CD is a bonafide spanish classic from the one and only Jose Feliciano. On this CD, Feliciano displays his unique and marvel artistry in every song. These are songs that the brilliant singer and guitarist recorded in the first decade of his legandary career. His soulful, silky voice accopanied by his mastery of the guitar makes this album a real treasure for longtime fans and will provide great listening pleasure to new fans that perhaps are not familiar with these classic boleros from Feliciano during the apex of his massive popularity the late 60's and early to mid 70's. You can't go wrong with this CD every song is a timeless classic in the inimitable voice of the great Jose Feliciano.
