5 out of 5 stars The Best Compilation of the Man on 2 Discs! Great Sound Quality Too!.......2006-04-21

The title very aptly describes this great classical guitar album showcasing some of the best ever works of John Williams on 2 discs. The track selections are great as they span the centuries from the Baroque greats of Bach and Vivaldi to the modern day composers such as Stanley Myers and York. John even flirts with Blues and Jazz-style pieces and they actually sound very good. In addition, they did a much better mastering job on this version than on the single disc, "Classic John Williams" album that was released a few years earlier and so the sound quality is much better. John Williams' playing is without peer and his technique is superior to the vast majority of the exponents of classical guitar that are out there. I've heard recordings of many others who have tried to play "Cavatina" for example and they have never come close to the natural and flowing version that John plays. If you are a fan of this type of music or of John Williams' work, this is the best compilation that you can get that's out there. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Relaxing and Enticing to the Ear.......2006-01-26

The first song on this set is why I bought the whole album. It blows you away listening to the precise picking and the gorgeous way it is done. Not robotic like some freaks out there. This is true beautiful music. Runs together like a long summer drive in the country. It is just a perfect album to listen to at home or on the go.

5 out of 5 stars A little something for everybody.......2005-06-15

First, this is gorgeous guitar playing by someone who knows what he's doing. John Williams (not to be confused by the film score composer of the same name) is a superb classical guitarist. Many of these pieces are *classical* in nature, while a few are more *popular*. Many are solo, the rest in small chamber groups. Some will get your toes tapping, some will start you daydreaming, and some will make you cry with their beauty. All of it is magnificent.

    5 out of 5 stars Marvelous!.......2006-08-09

If you like both beautiful melody and rhythm of the Latin American sort, you will like this recording. If you like solo classical guitar of the supremely virtuosic sort, add that into the equation (plus a few excellent duets). These pieces are played with an uncanny rhythmic precision that does not sound mechanical. They are played elegantly, eloquently and with feeling neither overstated nor understated. Bear with me, because it is impossible to do justice to this beautiful recording with mere words. It is among my favorite recordings of all time - I never tire of listening to it.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent interpretation.......2006-03-18

John Williams shows, once again, his guitar mastery in this album. Nice surprise to have few pieces accompanied by a "Cuatro".

I consider Alirio Diaz' interpretations of Venezuelan guitar music to be the gold standard, and yet I was happily surprised by John's version of these pieces.

    5 out of 5 stars amazing!.......2005-06-20

I discovered this record by chance. I had followed the work of John Williams for some time, but I never suspected that he had recorded Venezuelan music. John Willimas not just plays Venezulean music superbly but also catches the genuine spirit of it in all its sense.
If you like Venezuelan music this is definitely a jewel you must have. And If you haven't listened to it before I can't imagine a better way to be introduced to it.

    5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!.......2005-06-03

    Yes!!
I think John Williams always wanted to do things that branched out from the 'classical' classics, but went silly with Sky. Here, is the happy medium!! He plays these songs with a fun-spirited nature, non-seriouso, with glissandi, fast tempi, strong rhytmic drive. I still like the Gerald Garcia reccordings (Latin American Guitar Music, Naxos) a real lot, but i think that Williams plays them in the true Venezolano spirit. 4.925719/5

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Some gem discoveries but definitely more for the 60s fanatic than the average rock fan.......2006-02-05

If you're a HUGE Creation fan, look no further: this collection gathers all the recorded output of the late 60s U.K. "freakbeat" (insider record fan genre that basically means power pop with psych touches) band in 1 disc. As an extra, you also get rare singles "Ostrich Man" and "Sweet Helen".

The band did innovate in its guitarist's use of viola bow to play and the use of "paint bombs" in their onstage performances. Performance art, though, translates to video and DVD...not CDs. What they'll be judged on HERE is their music.

    HIGHLIGHTS:
"Making Time" comes charging out of the gate with an insistent riff. The Who-like "Painter Man" details the saga of an art school grad who discovers no ones cares about his work. (That is, until he begins to draw nude postcards.) "Try and Stop Me" is in the Hollies mode..a nifty pop nugget, while "Can I Join Your Band?" is a witty Brit version of "So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star" featuring this lyrical gem: "Can I join your band?/My new guitar/my coat is suede...I'm a hippie guy/Always stoned and 8 miles high."

    LOWS:
The biggest curse of albums of this vintage is a profusion of cover songs to pad out albums. Often, this was done without regard to whether the tunes fit the band well. On here, the most egregious examples are the pallid remake of "Like a Rolling Stone" and the limp "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" which won't have anyone getting rid of their Buckinghams CD.

    BOTTOM LINE:
Diehard 60s "acid/garage rock" heads will probably find this a must but for the rest of us, it's hit and miss. If you find it in a bargain bin (as I did), definitely get it...the great stuff is worth having. But do NOT pay the hefty import price.

4 out of 5 stars Forgotten Pop Gems.......2004-06-03

If you like mid '60s garage, freakbeat, Mod, British Invasion stuff, get this. Its something of a must have for aficionados of '60s mod rock. I've been in many bands that covered Creation songs and really feel at home with much of this material. Most people will recognize "Making Time" from the movie Rushmore.
Not every song works but there are enough good ones to merit the price. It has the first use of a bowed guitar, before Jimmy Page even. Lots o fun.

5 out of 5 stars Biff! Bang! Pow!.......2003-09-14

    The ultimate Mod album.

PS - "Biff! Bang! Pow!"'s opening chords are identical to The Who's "A Legal Matter." They only closely resemble "My Generation"'s opening chords. But only a fanatical spoilsport would mention this. :-)

5 out of 5 stars An Unkown Rare collection.......2003-09-09

This collection of the short lasting , British , not to mention Brilliant, mid 60's garage group,"The Creation", are by far one of the great unknown legends of rock n roll. With over 20 tracks of melodic ,acidic, arangements with eye brow raising lyrics, "Our Music is Red with Purple Flashes" is by far my favorite album at the moment. The Creation could of easily been taken into high acclaim in the mid to late 60's ,alike The Who The Yardbirds,The Pink Floyd(with Syd Barret not the overated Dave) and The Animals, they were unknown and brilliant which is why buying this album is a really great idea, if your into the eary 60's garage sound, and the sort of "pyscadellic" phase, buy this!!!!! My favorite tracks include, "Making Time" (currently famous from the soundtrack of Wes Anderson's Rushmore)
"life is just begining" , "painter man" (later coverd by The Television personalties, along with making time) "The girls are naked and they dance"

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest Band that Never Was..........2002-10-23

The Creation was an excellent, excellent band! It's a shame they never managed to keep it together. Comparisons to the Kinks and Who are both accurate and unfair. Because they had the same producer (Shel Talmy) as the early Who and Kinks, their sound is similar, but the Creation is distinct enough to be uniquely their own.

And the music is incredibly memorable! I had never heard of the Creation before, and saw them locally on a whim. I wanted to get their CD immediately, but held off for about a month. It is amazing how many songs I recognized from their concert, having only heard them once!

There really isn't a bad song on the CD, save for a few poorly chosen covers ("Mercy, Mercy," "Hey Joe"), and one could almost hear the evolution and emergence of a great band, had they stuck it out.

As sad as it is that this band had such a brief recording career, what's even more tragic is how virtually unknown they are. Surely, they were as good as any other band in the mid-sixties, and deserve to be part of classic rock stations' play list as much as the Zombies, the Animals, and any other of the lesser British Invasion bands.

If you like the Kinks and Who circa 1966-67, then you need to include the Creation into your collection. They're that good!

this cd brings back good memories. I remember when I had these albums years ago and the sound quality is great onthe cd.Ms. Carn was always an underrated singer but she can stand up to the best of them. Her ability to insert feeling into her music will get you every time. The first album is the best 4 1/2 stars and the second album 3 1/2.

5 out of 5 stars A Diva Of Grace And Substance.......2006-04-18

Jean Carne And Happy To Be With You are two exceptional albums.
"Free Love", "No Laughing Matter", "I'm In Love Once Again" showcases that if given the right material, it lives by itself.
Those three, plus, "Time Waits For No One", "You Got A Problem" are my faves from the first album. Happy To Be With You showcases her jazz roots. My faves are "Betcha She Don't Love You", "Don't Let It Go To Your Head" and the title track. In it's entirety, this is the best that you get from Mrs. Carne!

I copped the other twofer, and that one slams too! Get them!

5 out of 5 stars Her first two classic albums available again........2006-03-16

The two albums featured on this CD are both absolute classics and should be considered "Essentials" for any true fan of good and real R&B music. Timeless ballads like "Where Did You Ever Go?", "No Laughing Matter", "I'm In Love Once Again", "Together Once Again", "Revelation/Infant Eyes" and,of course, Jean's signature song (the immortal "Don't Let It Go To Your Head") more than justify buying this CD. Jean Carn may never have enjoyed the kind of commercial acclaim and mainstream recognition she so deserved but these two albums provide irrefutable proof of her greatness.

    5 out of 5 stars EXTRAORDINARY VOCALS~BRAVO JEAN!!!.......2005-12-25

Jean Carn has a voice that is a once-in-a-lifetime gift to those of us who love and really appreciate great singers...this is the best of them all! This incomparable collection features two classic Jean Carn lp's from the seventies and I had the honor of attending many concerts at this time and they were riveting and incredible experiences and this is a ride on a voice unlike any other...this is the Dom Perignon of singers and this is the magnificent collection to have! 3 out of 5 stars To Error Is Human.......2007-06-22

This is where things start to change and not for the better. Did you ever have the feeling that producer Micki Most and guitarist Jeff Beck understood Donovan and his music a lot more than they ever recieved credit for? Change is inevitable, but production values are still production values and guitar licks are still guitar licks. The essence of Donovan starts to disappear here. For the next few albums, Donovan seems intent on a change of direction that leads him far away from what he does best. He trades his unique poetry and celtic charm for something that seems a lot less than he is capable of. The magic has dwindled and the fairy dust has scattered. The acoustic Donovan appears, disappears and reappears whenever the muse hits him. Both of these albums are uneven and need a lot more attention from Donovan and a lot less interference from everyone else. It makes you wonder if anyone ever listened to any of his previous work on Epic.

3 out of 5 stars From pop star to has been.......2006-01-12

Cosmic Wheels was Donovan's last LP to chart in the top 40 (#25 in the U.S.). Essence to Essence only made it to #174, and a few years later Donovan slid off the charts for good. While there are many reasons why this happened (and it happened to many of the 60s stars), Cosmic Wheels certainly has to take some of the blame. It really isn't that good when compared to his fabulous albums from the 60s. His lyrics lack the whimsy and poetry of his previous songs (something he wouldn't fully regain until his "Beat Cafe" CD 31 years later!), his music is lackluster, and the whole LP is just not compelling.

To top it off, the LP also contains the worse song that Donovan ever wrote - "Intergalactic Laxative." I like to think of this song as one of the final nails in the coffin, the song that instantly pushed Donovan from popular to has been. In an instant, Donovan goes from whimsical to crude, from hip to insipid, from mystical to juvenile. It's truly an embarrassing song, and it blights the entire LP.

So why 3 stars for this CD? Actually, it's for the Essence to Essence part of it because that LP has always had a certain charm to it. Certainly it can't hold a candle to his 60s LPs or to "Beat Cafe", but it's more consistent than Cosmic Wheels, and while the lyrics still aren't great, his music has a playfulness to it that makes it fun to listen to. Worthwhile songs include "Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth," "Yellow Star," and "Life is a Merry-Go-Round."

If you're just starting to get into Donovan, don't buy this CD. Start with one of his excellent best of CDs, either his greatest hits, or "Try for the Sun" or "Troubadour." If you want to explore Donovan's music further, try any of his masterpieces from the 60s, and get the remastered imports because the sound is fantastic. I also highly recommend "Beat Cafe" his 2004 CD which compares favorably with his 60s music. But if you're a Donovan die-hard, you might as well get this CD too.

4 out of 5 stars The Mystic Minstrel of the 20th Century.......2005-03-19

I was glad to find these two albums paired together. I don't have to sell anyone on Cosmic Wheels, one of Donovan's better efforts from the 70's. But Essence to Essence has always been slammed as a weak album, with so-so production and subpar material. However, there are always hidden gems and this LP has a few. Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth and The Divine Daze of Deathless Delight remain two of my personal favorites. But if you are a true Donovan fan, or just now beginning to discover the wonder of his talent, then There Is An Ocean and
Sailing Homeward are absolute musts to have in your collection.
They both have minimal accompaniment and in my opinion that is when Donovan is at his best. Although he has made some great electric music over the years, all he really needs is an acoustic guitar and that great built-in vibrato voice of his to bring goose bumps to your skin. Listen and enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Finally on CD!.......2004-02-28

Cosmic Wheels was issued in Europe on CD for a very short time in the 1990s and went out of print shortly thereafter. Finally it's re released and available, this time as a twofer with Essense to Essense, the followup CD. Cosmic Wheels is Donovan's last great album, featuring his whimsical but still lyrical concerns with the earth, stars, astronomy, astrology, etc. There are some amazing and powerful orchestrations on this album, particularly on the title track, arranged by Chris Spedding. Great musicianship and songwriting on this overlooked and underrated album. Essense to Essense has some interesting material but is not nearly as good as Cosmic Wheels either in consistency of songwriting or in performance. Sound quality is good, thank God they refrained from using noise reduction, and this CD sounds quite acceptable.

Every track is beautiful. My Faves are "Love Don't Ever Say Goodbye", "Nights Over Egypt" and the title track. "Keep It Comin'" is so good too! The title track with the three screaming at their peak sets my skin to goosepimply ecstacy. The other tracks I love is "Why You Wanna Do That To Me?", "Ah, Ah, Ah, Ah", "Won't Let You Take It Back" and "Right Stuff." Get this! U Won't Be Disappointed! Trust me!

Discovered Diablo Swing Orchestra while reading a random message board. Gotta love them internets! I checked out their myspace page, listened to "Balrog Boogie" and "Poetic Pitbull Revolutions" and I immediately knew I had to have this. After listening to the whole thing multiple times, I am in love with this record. It feels like music that would be released on The End Records - try and describe the elements that compose it, and you'll be sure to leave something out (like I will!) I haven't had a disc dominate my player like this for a long time. By that I mean needing to have it loaded onto my computer at both home and work, as well as carrying the disc in my car, so it's accessible at all times. If I had an mp3 player that counter would be steadily climbing every day.

Everything you've read about the singer's voice is correct. Operatic style. I understand what people mean when they say it reminds them of Nightwish, but I hear it somewhat as Therion and (a little) Devil Doll - but it's really more its own animal than anything else, and meshes incredibly well with the music, as do all of the accompanying stringed instruments.

Some of these songs are almost pop in their addictiveness! You'll have difficulty getting out of your head tunes like "Rag Doll Physics", "Wedding March For A Bullet", and "Porcelain Judas". "Balrog Boogie" is the most jazzy of the tracks (along with the outro on "Pink Noise Waltz"), although the lyrics sound like random Latin phrases. "Heroines" mixes in sultry slinkiness that reminds me of David Lynch. "Gunpowder Chant" is a lengthy intro that leads into the techno-tinges at the beginning of "Infralove", where you'll also find guitar reminiscent of Vic Flick. "Pink Noise Waltz" is a piece of art into itself, and sounds like it could've been a missing track from Ayreon's Human Equation.

Any of you out there who aren't repulsed by operatic vocals and are tired of the same old thing - check out their myspace. Find their homepage. Do something! Listen to as much as you can. Absorb it into your auditory vocabulary and elevate your palate to another plane, should your tastes oblige.

This is like a DQ Blizzard of heavy metal. You get a variety of musical treats mixed in with your metal ice cream to complement and play off of each other without losing its true flavor. I hope their next serving is offered up with a dash of Mike Patton.

    4 out of 5 stars What's this!?.......2007-04-18

I remember the first time I heard the pairing of melodic female vocals with a heavy rock/metal song. It was unlike anything I'd heard before, and I loved it from the start.

Since then, I've spent many years exploring this interesting musical genre, and have found a few great bands (Within Temptation, Oratory, Leaves Eyes) and a boatload of horrid bands (Edenbridge, the thunderously terrible Alas, and WAY too many others to name). But not since the first time I heard that first song have I ever sat up and taken notice of a truly different sound.

Until I discovered Diablo Swing Orchestra.

Where to begin? The opening track, "Balrog Boogie," is like nothing I've ever heard before. Mixing elements of jazz, swing, metal, opera, and a sly sense of humor, this track defies categorization. Strangely enough, it reminds me of something you'd hear on one of the old "Muppet Show" episodes, all creative and entertaining.

The thing is, each song on this album is unique in its own way. Some have the jazz sound, some have a mariachi flavor, others feel like something out of the old west. As far as instruments go, in addition to the usual guitar/bass/drum mix, there's cellos, horns, violins, flutes, and even a didgeridoo to be found in the various songs. And those are just the ones I could identify - I'm sure there's more.

What ties most all of the songs together is good, quality musicianship, a metallic heaviness, and a female lead singer who sounds like she just stepped off the stage of the Met. When I say she sings in an "opera" style, I mean it - this isn't some sort of high vibralto that she only hits in dramatic parts. No, she sings like Carolin Fortenbacher did on that one-off rock reimagining of Mozart's "die Königin der Nacht" that came out a couple of years ago.

I wonder if her folks are all upset about paying for her classical music training, and then she goes and uses it to front an oddball metal band.

Perhaps that's what attracts me so much to this group - you really have to like metal AND opera in order to enjoy their sound. There's a few parts where a (somewhat underutilized) male voice chimes in, and even the lead vocalist calms it down once or twice, but other than that, you'd better be a fan of opera, or at least have an open mind.

My favorite tracks include "Poetic Pitbull Revolutions," "Rag Doll Physics," and "Wedding March for a Bullet." Visit their MySpace page for samples.

I just can't overemphasize how unique and unprecedented this album is.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars HOT DAMN.......2001-03-11

I figure you can split the world into two groups. Folks who like the Beat Farmers and those that get all sorta nervous at the first low growl out of Country Dick Montana's throat and head for the door.

This disk has something for both groups. Montana gets more vocals on this one than on most of the full disks (didja hear a BMW door just slam?) Rolle, Buddy and Jerry are there too, pumping out all the energy and fun that made the Farmers who they were. I think these guys loved every minute of performing and it shows here (check out some of the fan sites with accounts of Montana's antics. The big guy had one heck of a good time messing up his health.). There is a good solid musical core too. Tell your buddies that say they were just a novelty band where they can file that for future reference.

The Farmers do a cover of Neil Young's Powder Finger that blows away the original. Glad and greasy, the cover tune, is the kind of good fun that set the hook for most fans after they took the first nibble at Happy Boy or California Kid.

The Beat Farmers as a band died with Country Dick. Buy this CD and enjoy some of the best stuff they did. And while your at it bully any record execs you see into finding some old Country Dick and the Snuggle Bunnies to press.

5 out of 5 stars The Title Sez It All!.......2000-11-29

Yep, Glad 'N Greasy--a perfect phrase for the late, lamented Farmers. This EP was recorded in Europe around 1986 (?) and features the original Beat Farmers line-up of Rolle Dexter Love (bass), Jerry Raney (guitar/voc), Buddy Blue(guitar/voc) and Country Dick Montana (drums/voc/beer runs). The brevity of this CD is far overwhelmed by the sheer, gut-crunching cow-punk-folk-a-billy of the six songs. GNG starts out with a reverent yet swinging version of Neil Young's "Powderfinger". "Death Train", "Delayed Reaction", and the title track all showcase a combination of twang, swang, and good time rock 'n roll that enraptured many a beer-soaked crowd during the Farmers' all too brief history. For sheer fun, Country Dick takes the mic for the old bums' anthem "Big Rock Candy Mountain", restoring it to its original paean to ridin the rails, stealin, and drinkin. For sheer twistedness, Dick's reading of "Beat Generation" must simply be heard to be believed. Once you've heard this, life indeed will be just ducky.

The Kronos Quartet--apparently tired of performing some of the most riveting Western classical works composed in the last century--decided to take a vacation with Caravan. Where did they go? As evidenced by this globetrotting disc, seemingly everywhere. Music from the Middle East, South America, India, Portugal, and California (to name just a few) find their way onto this genre-blurring disc, along with a few surprises. They do a dizzying take on Dick Dale's "Miserlou," which we learn was originally written by Nicholas Roubanis in the '30s; perform a tune from India's bustling "Bollywood" film music industry; and tackle Terry Riley's inventive "Corgeo Funebre en el Monte Diablo"--the second movement of his Requiem for Adam (written for the late son of Kronos leader David Harrington). These are disparate but enthralling works that run the gamut from frenetic to reflective. Even though Caravan sounds less cohesive than Kronos's other world music foray, Pieces of Africa, this is still an enthralling collection and a must for Kronos fans. --Jason Verlinde

    1 out of 5 stars unpleasant sounds.......2006-11-10

Kronos Caravan was a dissapointment and a waste of money. I can only stand to listen to two of the tracks. Most of the tracks are an annoying blend of too many strings and what ever instrument the guest artist is playing.I never want to listen to any of the music from the cultures represented on this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Another great Kronos.......2002-07-09

The positive part is that this is really good but I rank their last "Nuevo" higher because that one holds togheter better.

This is mostly middle eastern/central europe stuff and even if I THINK I know way some argentinian/portuguise tracks are in this (because of that argentininan tango has it roots in middle europe.. portugal cobining bandelon with portuguese fado) it feels misplaced here but artisticially it is very good performed anyway and... hows about "Miserlou Twist" then.. well composer of that old hit has his roots in Libanon so.. :-).

Anyway is this very good, fun, well played and sound, production is also something extra.

You be pleased with this if you like stringquartets with more of a folklore style but my advice is that you by this togheter with Nuevo then you have two great great discs.

People used to Kronos cooperation with Glass, Steve Riech should like this but it is def. NOT minimalism att all.

    5 out of 5 stars Stunning.......2000-11-19

I've never been a fan of classical music. Being forced to listen to Mozart and such growing up in school, ugh, school has made me gain a deep hatred of famous classical composers and the like. Never thought I would ever get into classical music because it was all killed to me.

Then I heard of Kronos Quartet. They were raved about on a movie review for "Requiem for a Dream," which they are mostly responsible for the entire score on. So, I decided to give them a bit of a chance. I bought three of their albums, "Early Music," and "Kronos Quartet performs Phillip Glass." The most important of all of these is "Caravan."

The last CD I listened to, I was a little afraid to, because I figured I'd enjoy Western pieces a little more, and probably wouldn't like the more 'world' sound this album seems to say it has.

I couldn't have been more wrong, from the opening track, "Pannoia Boundless," I was in love, raving about it to everyone I knew. Every track seems to have an energy that oozes from within it, these dynamics that manage to grab me and toss me around every time. Even the weakest track, being "Cortejo Funebre en el Monte Diablo," because of the horribly synth-sounding beats, horns, and bells, still has a certain power after you get past the horrible intro of the song.

Either way, Kronos Caravan is a great listen for anyone just dabbling in classical string quartets and wants something a little more high power and intrusive than your average "background music."

2 out of 5 stars And they never stepped off the train..........2000-07-22

According to the press and liner notes, this album is intended to chart a sort of musical journey, obviously reflected by the title. Such a concept is highly suspect - eclecticism for its own sake (or more likely for the sake of capturing the widest consumer base) very rarely leads to meaningful, cohesive art, possibly because the best art comes "from within", that is, from within an individual's or a group's experience, not simply the surface reflection of ethnic stereotypes. Add to this the antequated notion that a caucasian string quartet can "capture" the world's sounds for YOUR discerning ears, and you have a piece of sheer mediocrity.

Osvaldo Golijov's arrangements excel at highlighting various effects of instrumental combinations. That's a plus. However, these performances are mostly shorn of whatever vitality is inherent in the compositions, by the quartet's lack of rhythmic unity and attack - some of these takes sound like tentative rehearsals. The worst in this respect has to be "Aaj Ki Raat". Anyone who knows Indian film music is aware of its energy and manic quality. This performance, however, has none of that, opting instead for a navel-gazing lack of dynamism that actually serves to bury the melodic theme, in lieu of which we are given the sound of tablas, which even Zakir Hussain can't make jive with the ennervated ensemble.

Not surprisingly, the only impassioned performance is "Turceasca", likely because most of the music is played by Taraf de Haidouks, a Romanian Gypsy ensemble that lends its "quaint" and "primitive" spunk to the tastemaker quartet, producing a "rousing, olde country" stewe.

Anyone with an interest in music beyond her/his borders should pick up the real thing, spend a little money, force her/himself to get used to its strangeness, and maybe she/he will come away a little wiser. Oh, yes, purchase an honest classical disc next time, as well.

    5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!.......2000-07-13

This CD is great in many ways. There is beatiful music from all over the world on this one. It's interesting 'cause it's rather easy listened, but still very deep and vital. "Pannonia Boundless" and "Turceasca" was the first two tracks to capture me. After that you discover the beauty of the other tracks. The themes of the songs are very clear and they work fine both as headphone-music as background-music. Get this one!
