Two great old salsa songs....the rest is so and so!.......2004-09-30

I bought this CD after listening to track no. 2 "El Yerbero del Barrio" on Puerto Rico's salsa station, Z-93. I liked the song a lot, although it is nothing fancy or ground-breaking. It is just the kind of salsa I like: typical of the 70's, with bands basically formed in the streets, putting A LOT of energy into their records, even when their musicianship was not something to remembered them by. The instrument's solos/licks are strong, very danceable ones, that really put you into a dancing mood; unlike most of the salsa of today or from the late 90's, in my opinion.

THis band sound very similar to Orquesta Zodiac, Raphy Leavitt y la Selecta, etc., on their early efforts.

The first two songs (the first one is a Tite Curet Alonso inspiration) are super catchy ones. My girlfriend has been singing them for weeks, after listening to them just two or three times...!!! (And she DOESN'T like salsa!!) The rest of the CD is a let down. Only the track titled "Nació Pa'Mi" sounds good enough to play it a few extra times.
