            This album by Fernando Villalona is ultimatey one of my favorites by him and in merengue in general. This album is very significant in that it is his come back album after having almost totally destroyed his career and losing it all. This is classic romantic merengue that is so danceable and so great to listen to. I will not dare to single out one song in particular but rest assured this one can be listened to from start to finish since all the songs are terrific and the rhythm is just perfect. It is not too soft but hard hitting enough to get you dancing. This album is definitely up there with the greatest of all time in this genre. Give it a try...you will not regret it.

            With this comeback album, Fernando Villalona did that and more - creating an album that is truly one of the great merengue classics.

            It isn't often that you find a merengue or album that sounds truly different, but this is. The arrangements, mostly by Manuel Tejada are among the best he had ever done. The ambience is restrained, folksy, and complex. The use of the background singers is exceptional and intriguing.

            And of course, Villalona shows himself to be at the peak of his singing power.

            This may not be the ideal merengue album to get up and dance to, but it is one you will listen to and absorb its great sophistication.

The Dominican community was rejecting his music for these reasons. But he came back, with this album "Soy Un Hombre Feliz" to prove them wrong. In the song "Pueblo Mio" he sings about how much he regrets using drugs and that he wants his audience back. He asked for forgiveness and for another chance at glory. Slowly his audience came back, thanx to this track in "soy Un Hombre Feliz". This album made Fernandito Villalona lift himself back up, and back ontop of Dominican Republic the land he loves.

                There are cantantes and there are soneros, and Ismael Rivera the sonero was lo mejor de lo mejor. Guaranteed to get you on your feet, Rivera and Los Cachimbos offer track after track of classic salsa, plus a sweet version of Bobby Capo's Si Yo Pudiera. Just try to sit still while listening to Son Son Sonero, or Parece Que Le Gusta, or Los Apuros de Miguel...or for that matter, any song on this CD. This is great Latin music served up with a sense of humor from a true legend. We miss you, Ismael, but your music lives on!

                Well well well, I see that you've took my advise on Ismael Rivera's "De todas maneras rosas" and you're looking for more stuff of his. No? OK, then you can start from here. Pay special attention to this CD, it's so good from start to finish; a good, hearty latin food for the smiling soul. His singing brings happiness to the body and moves it to dancing, doesn't matter if you don't quite know yet how to pronounce the word "salsa". Hey, hope you like it. I'm sure of that. Vaya!!
