Two-and-a-half hours of bliss.......2007-04-04

This may be the best money I've ever spent. I got 2-1/2 hours of bliss for less than what I'd usually pay for one CD -- and you know how it is with music. You buy an album because of a song or two that you love, and you find that you like maybe half the songs on it. There's not a single selection in this one that I would've left out. It includes Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez, performed by Pepe Romero on the guitar with the Acadamy of St. Martin in the Fields. I needed to replace my old LP recording of that. But I also get 30 other classical compositions and traditional Spanish pieces, each special in its own way.

Have you ever heard music that you wanted to last forever, maybe even to dive inside and live there for a while, immersing yourself in sound? That's how I feel about this collection. The only problem I have with it is that I bought it thinking it might be nice to listen to while I write. Not so. It's terrible for that. I'll sit with my hands poised above the laptop keyboard, assuring myself I'll get some work done while I listen. The music takes hold and carries me away.

I'm not expert at describing this or any type of music. I just know what I love. You might too, if you enjoy classical or Spanish guitar -- unless you have absurd expectations about combining listening with work.

This CD for me was a waste of money. Its just not what i thought it would be. Others may enjoy it but for me..it wasnt what i was hoping to hear.

Essential Guitar..........2005-07-26

Up until this collection, I'd never heard the "Cavatina" played in the Deer Hunter movie. After hearing it, I could play it all day and not tire of it! It moves me that much, considering that it's almost "not" a classical guitar selection. The rest of the music is first rate! Excellent playing, but the "Cavatina..."
Buy it and enjoy!!!!

Lives up to its Name!.......2005-06-10

If you only bought this double CD set, you'd have a good starter collection of classical guitar music. It includes most of the standards, as well as rarer pieces. In addition to the many solo pieces, there are several excerpts from orchestral works, with Rodrigo's indispensible Adagio from "Concierto de Aranjuez" topping the list. There are also several flamenco numbers included, complete with heel taps and castanets.

The recording quality is uniformly good, even on the tracks by Segovia. I don't know if they were remastered or recorded late in his career, but they're free of the surface noise present in so many of his recordings. The set clocks in at a generous 2 1/2 hours - one of the greatest deals in instrumental music; this is not a "bargain" quality set. Listen to the samples online - great stuff.

My only mild criticism is in the marketing. The advertising features John Williams and Julian Bream. Each contributes exactly one track. I would have enjoyed more pieces by them for stylistic comparison. But the less well-known (at least to guitar music neophytes like me) artists are every bit as good, and I intend to obtain more of their work.

A cantar.......2006-02-15

Interesante coleccion de canciones de los Formula V, en sus versiones originales, Ud. se pondra a cantar a pleno pulmon con este CD, hay algunas canciones que en particualr me causan euforia como el de la playa el sol el mar, cenicienta , catorce rosas rojas, busca un amor - este ultimo tema de gran calidad artistica- entre otras ; todas las canciones (21) terminaron de gustarme y las escucho con el mismo gusto de mis favoritas.
Las letras son un tanto ingenuas y sencillas comparandolas con las de hoy en dia, que ni se entienden ,esto sumado con el ritmo de rock hacen de las canciones facil de memorizar que hasta mi hija Oriana de 4 anos las canta! pero ojo, tenga precaucion, estas canciones son extremadamente pegajosas , se pegan como chicle en la mente que tendra que hasta rehusarse en tocar el CD.
No le doy 5 estrellas por el simple motivo que en el CD no hay absolutamente ninguna anecdota acerca de la banda ni de los temas , solo los titulos y en parentesis los autores; me lleve un fiasco al abrir la portada y encontrarla totalmente en blanco; por lo demas : excelente, lo recomiendo.

Great Package.......2006-03-25

The CD is fantastic, and what everyone seems to forget is that the DVD is a value added bonus! You are getting a great CD plus a bonus DVD. For what the DVD is, it is great (Sound problems aside). You can't find this sort of DVD anywhere else, nor some of the songs he performs live. A record company finally trys to give some value for the dollar, and there are still complaints. Could the DVD sound have been better- sure, but for what it is, the DVD is great.

POOR DVD QUALITY, BUT GREAT PERFORMANCE.......2006-01-29

If you're expecting to buy a great CD you won't be disappointed. The CD sounds great and every reviewer of this release agrees on the great material, BUT..... if you are expecting a great DVD, well, I was quite disappointed in the sound quality. Is it even in stereo? The ambience is poor and the low end is washed out. Compared to current DVD concert releases, this is like a poor VHS.
You can't argue about Jose's performance, though. It's GREAT !

A music fan I hear ya. Actually CD Universe has this CD much cheaper. Nevertheless, anyone who likes JF, MUST have this CD in their collection. This CD contains the best ballads JF has ever recorded. I waited a long time for this "cassette" to be reissued on CD. JF is a seasoned artist and his "feelings" come straight from the heart. Trust me you will not be dissapointed. Sigue Pa'lante Boricua...

Everything Jose Feliciano does is excellent. In my eyes this brilliant guitarist and great vocalist can't do no wrong. This CD/DVD is certainly no exception. The music on the CD is a compilation of two of Jose's great albums from the 1980's. The albums "Escenas De Amor" and "Me Enamore" had never before been release on CD that is until now that Universal Music, Feliciano's record company decided to release this two classics together at one time. In this compilation package you're not only getting this fantastic CD filled with beautiful music that only someone like Feliciano can deliver and deliver he does as always straight to your heart with pure emotion and a lot of feeling but you also get a brilliant DVD of live performances of Feliciano in concert. The DVD like the CD is mostly in Spanish with the exceptions of his knockout version of "Light My Fire" and a superb rendition of the Stones "Start Me Up" which he includes a sensational rocking solo on electric guitar that will knock your socks off as well as a great version of the Beatles "Twist and Shout". If you're a Jose Feliciano fan, this is a must for your collection and if you're just curious to see and hear what all the hype has been about for the last 40 years, this is your chance to see and hear the amazing and legendary Jose Feliciano as always at the top of his game. What a pro, all of the young artists that are starting out including people like Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera should watch this amazing musician so that way maybe than can pick up some pointers and learn how is all done. He's the best there is, without a doubt there hasn't been anyone since and there will never be again anyone quite like Jose Feliciano. He's the real thing and he only gets better as time goes on.

Fantastic CD and DVD, but please read on!.......2003-11-05

I loved the CD, and the DVD was fantastic. What I did not like was the fact that I paid $19.98 for the CD with a bonus DVD, when I could have bought the same DVD with a bonus CD for $16.98 on Amazon. I think it is a great idea to have it packaged in a CD format and a DVD format, but why the difference in price. It is the same product! Amazon should be charging the same price for both! If you are reading this type in Jose Feliciano DVD, and save yourself $3.00.! It is certainly worth $19.98, but $16.98 makes it just that much better.
