About the Artist
Ashanti’s beginnings date back to 1983 when Berklee College of Music students from Mexico, Switzerland, Chile, Japan, and Connecticut launched a new musical project. Their Latin jazz combo, dubbed Ashanti to recognize the African roots of the music they loved to play, performed regularly at a variety of Boston-area venues. Following stints in Dallas, Mexico City, and Cancun, leader Gabriel Espinosa brought Ashanti to America's Heartland where he directs the Jazz Studies Program at Central College.

"Sin Fronteras" or "Without Borders" is Iowa-based Ashanti's second commercial release, featuring nine original tunes plus two killer covers. The group's sound is best described as smooth Latin jazz. In this multi-faceted performance you will hear liberal Afro-Cuban and Brazilian influences and a healthy dose of crisp vocal work. The tight performances of the group's sax, trumpet, flugelhorn, and EWI players is punctuated by Ashanti's amazing percussion.

Another great album from Sargento.......2001-11-16

This is the music that keeps me going - music that I can never get tired of and that makes me ge up and move even if I am dead tired. The energy that these guys are splashing out is incredible. Even if you are not a fan of Latin music, you will love this CD, and it is sure to add some spice to any party.

3rd album continues where Un Poquito left off..........2001-09-18

If you haven't heard Sergent Garcia before, it is hard to define his musical style. He calls it salsamuffin, and it is blend of latin musical styles (particularly Cuban) with rap and reggae. He sings in Spanish, French and English. Personally, I preferred Un Poquito but this is still a mighty fine album that will liven up any party.

The best yet!.......2002-12-24

For all you Salgado lover's out there, you'll definately enjoy this one! It's a new sound for Michael and Co. but a great one. I really enjoy the 2 great mariachi hits on it but I can't leave out the classic Michael sound of "Mi Ultima Parranda" for those who like the Rancheras! There's also a great cumbia on this album. I recommend this new album for all y'all out there. Subele y que sigue la onda... Ajua!

The Cuban-born percussionist Pancho Quinto, better known in the States as the powerful hand drummer behind saxophonist/flautist Jane Bunnett, is an artist devoted to tradition and innovation. He's master of Afro-Cuban rumba rhythms, but his unique guarapachangeo style, which combines the box-like cajon and the cylindrical bata drums, places him in his own category. On this CD, which translates Rumba Without Frontiers, Quinto is joined by an impressive list of Cuban and American musicians, featuring pianist Omar Sosa, Bay-area percussionist John Santos, the babalao singer Octavio Rodriguez, saxophonist Enrique Hernandez, and vocalists Lazaro Rizo and Guillermo "El Negro" Triana. They create a splendid and syncopated recording that is ancient as Mother Africa's ancestral anthems and modern as Americas 21sr century hip-hop beats. Tracks like "La Gorra" and the kalimba-coded "Sosa En El Pais De Las Maravillas" best represent that electro/folkloric fusion, while "Bolero En Medio Del Carnaval," "A Esos Senores," and "Aspirina" showcase the best of Cuba's secular and sacred syncopations. Rumba Rumberos.......2006-01-31

Great Rumba, some different styles but still staying within the Rumba genre. Pancho Quinto's percussion is great, I could practice the rest of my life and not even come close. He tells a story and you can feel it. If you want to hear some good Rumba check this CD out. If you are looking for something maybe more commercial this may not be the right CD. I think it is something that the more you listen to it the more you recognize the complexity and genius to it.

Not Their Best.......2003-08-05

When I first heard this album I was a little disappointed because I expected it to be as good as their first cd "Abriendo Camino", but it wasn't. The lead singer Miguel Santana failed to deliver the songs that I so much loved from the first album. The more enjoyeable songs on the album are Julio Iglesia's "Abrazame," "Ay Mujer," and Roberto Carlos's "Detalles." Songs like Menudo's "No Puedo Olvidarme De Ti," Estas En Mi Mente," "Como Me Haces Falta," and "Comunicate" are just to poppish and simple.

Sin Fronteras , merengue romantico clasico........2000-03-02

De Republica Dominicana nace Sin Fronteras, un grupo de merengue exelente. "Fabricando Sueños" es el mejor de sus tres discos. Al escuchar los temas "No Puedo Olvidarme De Ti" y "Como Me Haces Falta" se puede apreciar el talento de Sin Fronteras. MUY BUENO!

This album is great. This album will make you wanna cry if you're not with the person you love. "Me Haces Falta" is a track that is great, it has a lot of meaning and the production is excellent. Another song that is great is "No Puedo Olvidarme de Ti" this song is well sang and the hook is perfect. The sounds and mambos in this album are great. Merengue lovers will really love this album because this is what real merengue should be like. Sin Fronteras has rewally established themselves as one of the better merengue groups to come out of D.R. "Hay Mujer" is a bachata written by Juan Luis Guerra and previously done by the Great Antony Santos, was done by Sin Fronteras in this album and they hit it on the spot. The rest of the tracks are wonderful and this is what merengue should be all about. This is an album that you should defenitely go out and get. If you're sleeping on this group, wake up and listen because these guys are hot right now.
