Album Description
Live performance featuring the last time the original lineup of this cult hard rock group every played together. Double slimline jewel case.

Live at the Agora is aweful.......2002-12-16
Don't be duped as I was about this bootleg amature recording. I grew up listening to and love the music of Starz. They are talented musicians and can rock the house. I have a number of LP's which represent them well. However, this recording is garbage. While the performance may offer some insight as to the energy of the band, the sound is just downright terrible. The previous review spoke of what a wonderful release this is. Don't buy into this. This CD is one of the worst I have EVER experienced and is a waste of hard earned cash - don't be duped.
A night to remember!.......2002-03-30
Boy does this bring back some great memories...Starz and WMMS in their prime! I remember taping this live simulcast the night Starz played at The Clevleland Agora. My buddy Jeff still has the original cassette tape I gave to him. Michael Lee Smith and the band were at their rauchiest best this night. I couldn't believe some of language he used while WMMS was bradcasting this live show! Especially during the intro to "Pull the Plug"...
unbelievalble! I still joke around with my buddies about this concert when we get together. This CD is a must for anyone who listened to hard rock in Northeast Ohio during the late seventies. Starz is truly one of the most underrated bands to play hard rock during this time period... every bit as good as KISS and Aerosmith.
By the way, if you like Starz, any effort to find music from their first three releases is well worth the effort!
Keep Rockin'
The Stork!
Essential Live Starz.......2001-09-01
My best friend,Tim and I, each had a cassette copy of this show the night that WMMS aired it. We both wore out our copies, and I tried to EQ our original tape. But back then we used such crummy tapes(Certron)it was next to impossible. This show is a classic, and we were so pleased to find out that they released it onto CD. All it's raunchinest still intact. Michael Lee Smith was in rare, and drunken form that night. You can hear him slurring towards the end. The guitar work of Richie Ranno was blistering and on the mark, all night long. Some of the in between song banter that Michael Lee used, Tim and I still use to this day("This guys laughing, he knows what I'm talkin' about", or Richie going to Michael barely audible off mic,"We're on the radio", to Michael's response,"I know, that's why I did it!!!)It is just a classic piece of rock and roll, that was captured at a time in my life that I will always remember. If you have any interest in Starz, this is the live recording you should own. Not because it was recorded in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, but because it captures this great underrated rock and roll band at it's best...
Cheers,
megdog
Great music from a special night.......2000-09-23
What a pleasant surprise it was to find this CD! I listened to the original broadcast of the concert, which took place at the old Cleveland Agora, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Cleveland radio station WMMS. My friend taped the concert on his reel-to-reel, and made a copy for me on an eight-track. I played the tape so much, it eventually became unplayable, especially after two splice repairs. I had seen Starz three times before this broadcast, and, and good as they were, the concert on this CD featured them at their best. Lead singer Michael Lee Smith and lead guitarist Richie Ranno were at the top of their game that night; Ranno is particularly good on "Johnny All Alone" and the "Waiting on You/Greatest Guitar Riffs/Coliseum Rock" medley. As for Smith, he had a good rapport with the Agora crowd that night, and gave them (and us listeners) extra entertainment by, despite a live broadcast, letting loose with a couple of expletives and off-color comments that would eventually get WMMS in trouble with the FCC. On "Pull The Plug" alone, Smith's monologue to begin the song had loyal 'MMS listeners like myself wondering how much longer the station would be on the air! But, shocking as it was at the time, we nonetheless loved it! Smith and the band delivered high-energy, straightforward rock all night, playing their best-known songs. I even enjoyed Smith's efforts on the old chestnut "Route 66," as he delivered it with energy that made it sound new and exciting - and almost unrecognizable to Nat Cole's version!
I am obviously biased about this CD, but if you want to hear great rock n' rock from an underrated 70's band that should have been more popular than they were, give this a try. At the least, it should definitely be in the collection of any Clevelander or ex-Clevelander who grew up listening to the Buzzard (WMMS) in the late 1970's, as it is a nice reminder of what great music a once-great radio station gave us.
P.S. - For those of you who are fans of the film "Almost Famous," the hotel in Cleveland where the band Stillwater is shwon partying was called Swingo's Celebrity Inn, and it gets a mention on this CD. Swingo's actually existed, and was THE place for rock stars to stay when visiting Cleveland. At the end of "Night Crawler," Michael Lee Smith says "Swingo's will never be the same after tonight."
Best Live Concert.......2000-06-12
I was listening to the concert that night on the radio. It was the best live concert I ever heard, and it's still my favorite. The CD is great.

1976, but a precursor to much of what you heard today.......2005-07-31
I found this title listed on Lee Ritenour's website under his discography section. I can't add much to what the other poster said, but this is one of those albums that makes you say, "This kinda sounds like..." This is a minefield for groups like Theivery Corporation to remix.
A great find!
Brazilian Master Percussionist's Best Solo Album.......2000-03-19
Paulinho da Costa. His name can be found on the back of literally hundreds of album covers. He has accompanied the crop of Brazilian and American musicians on their recording sessions and during live concerts.
In 1977, four years after his arrival in the US, this album was released. An almost forgotten classic, featuring Lee Ritenour on guitar and Greg Phillinganes on keyboards. The rhythm section is entirely Brazilian, as your body will immediately sense when you play this CD. Producer Claudio Slon on bass, Octavio Bailly, Jr. on Drums and Paulinho da Costa on Percussion.
Simbora, the opening track, kicks off with a lot of energy and vigour. "Let's Go" is what it means and what it conveys to the listener as well. Jazz/Samba fusion at its best.
The last track, Ritmo Number One, is a pulsating Samba Batucada, Brazil's polyrhythmic accompaniment to its famous Carnival parades. A dancefloor killer for the right crowd!
In between there are four more songs ranging from traditional Afro-Brazilian folk call-and-response to sophisticated Latin Jazz and Jazz/Samba.
A good, varied, and interesting album if you like rhythm. Ingenious big band horn arrangements, and beautiful solos over driving grooves. Buy it!

A Piece of History.......2007-07-23
From tape of a live concert that was simulcast/broadcast over the radio. Yes, it's not studio quality, but they quickly get it dialed in and the boys ROCK!. From the early days when they were just making it big. Don't let the fact that it isn't a study quality recording deter you from getting your hands on this piece of Rock and Roll history. It rocks! In my book, it is a must have for any Hatchet fan...Great memories! The next best thing to being there!
Classic Hatchet in their prime!.......2007-07-19
Molly Hatchet has had many personnel changes over the years, and I'm glad some form of them is still around to carry on the tradition, but this recording features the classic lineup from the late seventies. Great performance! The quality of the sound and mixing is somewhat lacking, but in 1979 recording standards for live concerts weren't at the level nowadays. Still though, it is annoying that for the first song or two you can barely hear Danny Joe and only one (out of three) guitar seems to be audible. Things get better as the CD goes on with the vocal and guitar levels, but the drums pretty much sound distant all the way through. Could have been better, even back then.
But this is, apparently, the only documentation of the original Hatchet live in concert, so if you're a Hatchet fan you still need this CD!! The energy and performance quality of the band overcompensates for the technical flaws of the recording.
