Frankie is Back and Better Than EVER!!!.......2007-01-24

I bought Frankie's cd due to one of the reviews from a dance teacher and she was right on the money! I have always liked Frankie's voice and salsa but when he went off doing pop music or other styles I kind of stopped listening. I'm sorry Frankie :( Frankie has truly made a come-back with this CD. It makes you want to dance salsa to every single song. Except one, which is not salsa but very nice. GHis cd is great for dancing and the beat/son is excellent! Even his style of singing is different and I can't put it in words. I can play this cd over and over and not get tired. My husband really enjoys it too and he's not one to make a fuss about anyone. Felicidades/Congratulations mi Frankie chulo y que sigues cantando mas musica salsa porque lo cantas tan rico y te queda mas que nada. This music is the best for Frankie because he is a true salsero and I look forward to more of his music to come. I highly recommend this cd!

The BEST salsa album out there.......2006-09-09

As a dancer, I really started to think that salsa was in a downspin (Michael Stuart doing reggaeton remakes; Marc's stuff all sounding the same). I resorted to playing all of my old salsa CDs' to get a real salsa fix, but then something made me stop and by this CD. I am so glad that I did. This is every salsa lover's album! Fresh, new hot sounds and Frankie's voice rocks. NO Vuelvo Contigo is great but No Puedo Con Ella, Hipocrita and Si Me Enamoro De Ella are FANTASTIC! If you love salsa you MUST BUY this album.

Beware! two old CDs reissued with a new name.......2006-08-02

I bought this CD with great anticipation because I love Spanish music of this era. To my disappointment, this was not a new recording, but a reissue of two CDs I already own: "1492: Music from the Age of Discovery" and "Traveler." If you don't have these CDs already, this double set is a great bargain. But check your CD rack before buying!

A reworking of a prior disc - but now with 2 CDs.......2006-01-27

I was pleased to see that one of my favorite CDs had not really gone out of print, but was reworked into this title and now with a bonus CD. Even though I own the original "Music from the Age of Discovery 1492", I'll probably buy this disc just for the extras. Very nice mood music, lots of variety, exotic instruments and lovely voices.

i've owned this CD for several years, and never tire of it. weather i'm curled up with a book, or just in the office with headphones on, it's appropriate for any occasion (outside a raucus party). i highly suggest it if you're interested in exotic, mystical, and festive tunes.

With his 10-gallon hat and cowboy boots, the Santiago-born Vocalist-guitarist Eliades Ochoa is known as the "cowboy" of the world-renowned Buena Vista Social Club. Because of his success with that group, he's made a few recordings of his own as the leader of Quarteto Patria. On this CD, Ochoa's romantic tenor voice and bouncy guitar playing are marvelously motored by the rhythms of the Cuban son. Along with trumpeter Anibal Avila, Ochoa is joined by special guest singer Raul Malo of the Mavericks on "No Me Preguntes Tanto," and guitarist David Hidalgo of Los Lobos lends his plectral pulsations to the title cut. Compay Segundo's heartfelt "Llora Mi Nena," and "El Chicarron es Pellejo" best reveal the rural blend of Spanish and African rhythms, melodies, instruments, and song forms that Eliades Ochoa highlights so well in his artistry. --Eugene Holley Jr.

Eliades Ochoa, one of the international stars that grew out of the Buena Vista Social Club has an incredible and unique style that conveys the best of Cuban music. Simplistic in sound, complex in technique, Ochoa presents another release that is on par with his other solo efforts. This disc is another example of his masterful interpretations. Slightly different from his previous two solo efforts with Cuarteto Patria, Ocoa is still featured as the soloist but the emphasis has been placed on the arrangements and orchestration. His signature guitar pickings can still be distinguished but in a more subdued manner although he has extensive solos on several numbers. On one song in particular, "Siboney ," is an all acoustic instrumental that is a marvel of interpretation of a classic song with the bass thumping, gently like a mild shore break on the shores of the beach while the guitars interact like palm trees swaying in the breeze. Most of the songs feature the Cuban Guarachas or Son that exhibits the playful lyrics that result from life in the(el campo) country. The other musicians featured are all top notch, including several other Ochoas in the Cuarteto Patria. The driving horn section and soulful trunpet solos lends to the happy festive sound that permeates from a seemingly contradictory lament. Eliades Ochoas voice is the perfect Cuban massage, his river-rock-gravely voice has been tempered by many years of experience. If you have not heard Eliades Ochoa you are missing one of the best Cuban musicians who continues to develop; get this disc now for a real Cuban music treat. If you are already familiar with Ochoa and liked his other works you will definetly not be dissappointed. This is an excellent CD to add to your world or Cuban music collection.

Good buy for the price!.......2007-06-12

It's a really good buy having in mind that you'll get the Cd with many of Cristian's greatest hits but also the DVD with a few good videos and songs, it's actually 2 for the price of one item, it could have been better by having some other good videos such as Yo queria and vuelveme a querer wich are not included in the video selection

Any afrocaribbean music fan with any self-respect owns the complete collection of Manny Oquendo & Libre (formely Conjunto Libre). This is has been the most powerful U.S. salsa band in the history of latin music, challenged only by Eddie Palmieri's "La Perfecta". Directed by Andy Gonzalez, one of the most respected bassists in the business, the band's incredible swinging and thick sound is driven by Manny Oquendo, a monster timbal and bongo player who has created a unique percussion style, who's secret lies in the tuning of his pailas, the timming of his strikes and the way he "drops" his sticks on the instrument; a technique that continues unmodified for more than 40 years. Libre, the undisputed masters of the "Crecsendo", have the incredible ability to take the listener from the cadence of a son montuno, cha cha cha or guaracha, to a potent mambo section and ending in a climatic "descarga" or jam fueled by the attack of four trombones.... we are talking about Hard Core salsa for the people that now the business. This particular recording is arguably their best in the past 17 years. This is patented "Moña" style is evident in the tunes "Alabanciosa" and "Mejor que Nunca". In their incredible version of "Las Ingratitudes", the band demonstrates how latin music can be spicy and emotive like no other, giving the sonero the chance to improvise. Asi le podria denominar a esta joya de Cd, Sin que sepas de mi , lo dice casi todo. Suave suave, somos levedad y cuando observor el afilador son de esas canciones que te dan por sentir que nunca el tiempo es perdido. Y lo mas llamativo de este cd es la cancion tengo un plan. Un estilo muy a lo manolo para hacer sus cosas. Escuchenlo no les cuento mas

No le falta nada.......2002-07-08

Influencias del medio oriente se entremezclan con el sonido al que nos acostumbró Manolo con El Ultimo de La Fila, para parir un album único. El tema que abre, "Sin Que Sepas De Mi" simplemente te deja sin palabras... y el resto rel album sostiene la fuerza del tema inicial. Personalmente me gusto mas el album debut de Manolo como solista, pero a este no le falta nada.

Un cd de esos que dormira bajo tu almohada, seas como seas y vengas de donde vengas, ni este, ni el otro pueden faltar en tu preciada discografia. Repito seas como seas y vengas de donde vengas. Un saludo y a disfrutar, este esta hecho para disfrutarlo. No te cansaras de escucharlo.
