Culled from Jose Manuel Figueroa's self-named CD from 1998, and his "Mala Hierba" from 1999, the first 7 tracks are from the earlier recording, the final 5 from the latter, and include some of the very best tracks from each album. Favorites of mine are "El Errante" , "Botellita de Tequila", "Alza El Vuelo", "Mala Hierba" and "Sin Sal Ni Limon"; all the songs were composed by Joan Sebastian, a singer/songwriter who is one of the most unique and creative forces in Mexican music, writing richly melodic and rhythmic songs, with clever and often touching lyrics. Sebastian is also Jose Manuel's father, and produced the recording with the high standards he sets for his own CDs, with superb musicianship and arrangements for his special brand of "tropical" and Norteño music. He also can be heard playing acoustic guitar and banjo on the selections from the '98 CD.

Jose Manuel has a gentle, lovely quality to his voice that is soothing and delightful, even when singing in full voice, and he is also a powerful, charismatic performer; were it not for his temper, which alienates his fans and attracts law enforcement, this handsome singer would surely be a superstar.
