"Underneath Your Clothes" is the second single released off Shakira's 2001 album, "Laundry Service". The Columbian diva wrote and produced this song, a pop/country ballad about love. Her voice is strong, as are her emotions, lyrics and music. The Lester Mendez Club Edit is a pop/dance/radio version that is directly catchy to the ear. The real reason to purchase this cd alone, is track 3, the Thunderpuss Radio Mix (Boomkat, "The Wreckoning"; Jennifer Holliday, "Think It Over"). Ok folks, we're gonna have to take a step back in time for this one. Thunderpuss created a radio mix of "Underneath Your Clothes" similar to the 1997-released "Spike Me Club Mix" of "Call Me" by Le Click. The Thunderpuss Radio Mix is melodically satisfying, as well as lyrically (Barry Harris & Chris Cox worked their magic again). While transforming this ballad into a dance number, Thunderpuss also kept some of country flavor to it as well. About 1 1/2-2 minutes into the mix, they slow it down for Shakira's country style bridge. Dance fans, as well as Thunderpuss fans everywhere should make sure this one is in their collection. Track 4, the "Tracy Young Spin Cycle Mix" (Cyndi Lauper, "Shine"; Madonna, "Music") of "Whenever, Wherever", is about as equally satisfying as the previous track. Tracy gives a short club mix in her signature style, while still keeping some of the original flavor of the album version. Track Listing:

She's done it again!.......2002-07-07

Yet another single from Shakira's Laundry Service Album. This time not of Whenever, Wherever, but rather Underneath Your Clothes. When I first heard the song off the LS Album, I thought it was ok, but I wasn't in love with it. After hearing the remixes and edits she had to offer, I couldn't resist. The CD starts with the original Underneath Your Clothes version, and moves on to the Underneath Your Clothes (Lester Mendez Club Radio Edit), which is more upbeat. I personally love this most out of the rest of the CD. The 3rd track is the ThunderPuss Radio Mix. This one seems to have a darker tone to it. It's good, but I think it could be longer. The album ends with Tracy Young's Spin Cycle Mix of Whenever, Wherever, Shakira's second biggest hit. Shakira's words are not hard to understand, as some other people have said. She can be easily understood, but maybe only if you've been studying Spanish for 3 years then you'll probably be able to understand her in both español e inglés. This one's definately worth your money.

Straining to understand the words.......2002-06-11

This album, while I enjoyed the photos in the CD jacket, is not a must-have in my book. Shakira is extremely easy on the eyes, but very difficult on the ears. She has an unusual and unique singing voice that would probably best be suited for singing in her native language of Espanol. I have listened to her in interviews, and her accent is both sensual and easily coherent. However, when singing, her lyrics get mumbled together. I, for one, am the type that likes to sing along with the radio, not strain an ear trying to decipher what is being said.

Awesome Single!.......2002-05-19

I have to admit. I have never heard of Shakira until I saw the "Underneath Your Clothes" video on MTV. Since then, the lyrics have stuck in my head. This is a catchy, slightly risque radio ballad that recalls equal parts "Dream Lover"-era Mariah Carey and Madonna's "Crazy for You" (circa 1985). And by that standard, it works very well. The remixes are good too. Lester Mendez turns the song into a Latin-club salsa workout, while Thunderpuss adds a thumping techno bassline to Shakira's vocals. There is also a new version of "Whatever, Whenever" by Tracy Young (best known for remixing Madonna's "What It Feels Like For A Girl"), who makes that mediocre song rather listenable too. Recommended for anyone who likes a good power ballad, and a great dance workout after.

I must say that this is one of "THE" hotes song of all time. Let me give you a short review.

1. Album Version (sexy, slow, orginal)
2. Acoustic Version (notthat dancable, its more of an accapella)
3. Mendez Club Radio Edit (I must say, it way good. heard it in clubs)
4. Thunderpuss Club Mix (very, very good. I love this mix)
5. Enhanced Video (WAY BETTER, U C ~~SHAKIRA~~)

I guess the only good songs are Thunderpuss club mix and Mendez Club Radio Edit. And yes, the video.

Poetry From Latin Pop's Queen.......2002-06-28

Shakira is not only the strongest songwriter in the genre of Latin pop, she is also one of the most gifted singers. All Shakira's music is poetry. Her songs are beautiful, her spoken word is eloquent and delicate, her voice is hers- there is no comparison.

"Underneath Your Clothes" is a quasi-ballad. Think of it as excellent poetry with music. (This is how you should think of all songs). The mixes distort the beauty of the song. I personally think the acoustic is the best version on here because it proves how beautifull Shakira can sing and play without the enhanced distractions.

Watch this girl take over the charts with her next single, "Fool."

Where Can I Start?

This Is Probably The Best Version Of The Single.
My Personal Favorite Version Of Song Is The Acoustic Version
Which I Find To Be Absolutely Stunning, It Turns The Normal Song Into An Even Softer Ballad With Redone Vocals, Which Are Untouched. This Version Is The Version You Have Probably Seen Her Perform Live.

As For The Remixes, They Are Great Too, Especially The Lester Mendez Remix. As For Thunderpuss They Could Have Done A Better Job Remixing, But Is Still A Good Remix.

The CD Comes With An Enhanced Video Which Given The Choice You Can Make Fullscreen (Which Inst That Poor Of Qaulity When Enlarged).

Really enjoyable special.
The highlights would have to be Cher's and Celine Dions performances.
Cher performs Believe and A Song for the Lonely and knocks them dead.
Celine performs Im Alive and A New Day Has Come and practically brings the house down. She was superb.
Other artist were good also, in particular Anastacia.
Very interesting to watch and great to own.

Shakira is, in my opinion, one of the most prolific, gifted, intelligent and beautiful singer/songwriters from Latin America today. Not only are her songs full thought, but she delivers them in such a soulful and expressive way! These two songs are a great sample of her work.

"Ojos Asi" is amazing! For those of you who don't know, Shakira is half Lebanese/half Colombian. This is actually a common mix Venezuela and Colombia, where there are is a significant Lebanese population. This song is a warm, vibrant tribute to her duel cultural heritage. The song is in, both, Spanish and Arabic. The percussion is definitely distinctively of the Arabic persuasion and the lyrics are pure poetry! You definitely are going to want to get up and dance.

"Underneath Your Clothes" is off of her "Laundry Service" album, her English crossover introduction to non-Spanish speakers. This song is so, so very sexy and powerful. I love the guitar on this..........

Thundrepuss mix on here........2002-08-17

This is the second single from Shakira in English and it is even better than "Whenever Wherever". This cd is from the UK and I did actually buy it from Amazon.co.uk and that is that. The cd comes with the Album mix (3:39) that has burned up the radio for months now. it is just an incredible song lyrically and vocally as well. The main reason I bought this cd was the Thunderpuss mix of "Underneath Your Clothes". BIG DRAMA from this mix !This mix is one of their best work in awhile and it shows. From the loopy keys to the slowdown near the middle to complete force of energy you get from this mix is astounding. At 6:52 it is one of the shorter mixes they have done and that is good- not too much vocal looping here .Then you get the album version (4:28)of "Ciega,Sordomunda" which is good too.
