5 out of 5 stars Awesome, great New Age!.......2007-07-06

I have to say, I downloaded "The Child in Us" on IMesh, and I fell in love of the whole aura the song portrayed. I bought the CD just for this song, but I fell in love of it all. Enigma is one of those artists who really makes music, and every touch, detail, and passion can be felt. The songs with lyrics, as well as those without each have a special meaning which transports you to someplace inside and make reflections. Even though some songs do not have lots and lots of lyrics, are brief but just right and DO HAVE A MEANING. Another point is that the music never stops from a song to the other, it is just a pleasant trip and the changes between songs are just well worked so each escence does not get lost or has an abrupt ending. Powerful "The Roundabout" and "Why...! bring an interesting mixture of soft and agressive vocals, maintaining the concept of new age music blends; meanwhile, soft and beautiful "Child in Us", "Prism of Life", and "Shadows in Silence" totally brings auras of peace and thought. New Age is the music of the future as many already have that concept in mind, and will possibly be. This is way better than most of the musical crap among popular music, and when I listen to each song here I am just transported to a NEW ERA, and forget about what is being heard outside =)

To listen to Enigma is to
go out of your mind......
but in a good way.
Take the trip--
it's well worth it.
I highly recommend them to
one and to all.

5 out of 5 stars Essential T.N.T. For The Brain.......2006-02-07

Aside from hearing someone else's copy of 'The Screen Behind The Mirror', 'Love Sensuality Devotion' was my first album by Enigma. However, my actual introduction was through the 'Sadness' single. At the time it was unlike anything I'd ever heard before and I was simply blown-away by the Gregorian chanting set amidst modern world grooves and infectiously seductive dance beats.

By no means is Enigma considered mainstream but I have heard them on the radio before. Just like Delerium, they'll never receive top 40 airplay but they're more well-known than B-Tribe or Sacred Spirit, for example, because of club-friendly remixes and the successful Pure Moods series which has caught the attention of some unlikely listeners.

Their greatest hits compilation came out just as I was trying to decide which record of theirs to start with, and it turned out to be the perfect preface before launching my intent to gather their entire catalogue of works. Since I had a good feeling about it, I finally made up my mind and bought their third release, 'Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi!' first and do not regret having done so. The eight new tracks (to me) that weren't included on LSD are absolutely breathtaking and I'm astounded by how well the CD holds up as a whole. It must have been a difficult process to hand select their so-called "best" songs because they're all so amazing! I thought I had the best of the best already but now I'm more determined than ever to someday own everything Enigma's produced. This album flows at a beautiful pace, and while the songs are hardly subtle, they're not quite as upbeat as some of their previous material. "Why! ..." is probably my favorite cut as Michael Cretu screams, in a non-abrasive kind of way, "I'm asking why!" atop a lush, moody soundscape. I also love "The Roundabout" which is very Deep Forest-esque, as well as some old favorites like "Beyond The Invisible" and "T.N.T. For The Brain". They're truly all gems, though, and this is definitely worth your time and money so don't just settle with their singles.

5 out of 5 stars The "best" New Age album ever.......2006-01-19

I was reading through some trashy reviews of some customers who don't know actually what is new age music. If you wish to get pure new age album I recommend this one because this would be the best you will have. This is the masterpiece of Enigma. I owned all 5 Enigma albums and my favourite one is this.

Cretu has used samples like Gregorian Chants, Celtic Chants in perfect way. The significant thing is all samples are based on the songs and not the songs are based on the samples. I saw in some reviews that the tracks like "Third of its kind","Oddessey of the mind" are just fillers. Thats not correct, those tracks are part of the whole story. Thats why we call this Enigma. Even the sleeve of this cd is greatly done. Definitely you will love this one. Dont afraid to buy this cd. Good Luck....!!!

They did it again. I love their music. It makes me feel so relaxed. I play it driving to work and coming home, a good 40 min. drive, and this just makes the time fly. Keep them coming.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars Fierce Angel/Hed Kandi/Mark Doyle Newbie Here.......2006-10-12

I'd read several reviews on Hed Kandi and they made mention of Mark Doyle and moving to Fierce Angel. After some research I picked this album as I was looking for something cutting edge; something to bring me up to speed on the state of dance, trance, and house.

From beginning to end it is very well produced. The transistions are fluid and the song selection makes good sense. The lyrics are intelligent and paint a deliberate picture.

Not being familiar with Mark's style I was pleasantly satisfied with this compilation. Granted that this album is comprised as an annual I feel that it runs a little long. I'm not sure if that's a complaint or not - I've only given it a couple of playthroughs and am on my 3rd - in 24 hours!

    5 out of 5 stars Stunning.......2006-09-05

As one of the Hed Kandi fans who have hopped over to Fierce Angel, I have to say that this is one of the most stunning mix albums that I have enjoyed listening to. A person can't go wrong with Mark Doyle's compliations and this mix album is no different. His choices are remarkable and I love listening to both familiar and new artists and songs. This mix is great for anywhere and anyone who wants to hear some great new music. I love listening when I'm working out and when I'm relaxing.

There are three CDs and these with a location and vibe to them. The first CD is called Poolside with some chill tunes from some great artists like Bonnie Bailey, Granddad Bob, and (my new favorite) Bob Sinclar feat. Steve Edwards. Poolside can be compared to Hed Kandi's Serve Chilled. The second CD is called the Base Bar, where the music is more uptempo and can be compared to Hed Kandi's Disco Heaven. The Base Bar CD is my favorite as I love to dance and workout to the rhythms. I have new favorites in artists like Jealousy, Etherfox, the fabulous Bassmonkeys feat. Naomi Marsh, Milk & Sugar, Simmonds & Christoper, Club, and older favorites like FatBoy Silm. Hands down, the Base Bar is the CD I put on for parties. The last CD is called The Electric Cabaret where the music gets nasty and dirty like Hed Kandi's Twisted Disco. Although this genre of dance music is not like favorite, but every now and then when it gets past 3a.m. and it's late, and the clubs are closing, I love to hear the Electric Cabaret. It just gets raw and I love it.

Overall, an excellent mix album that is very much showing to be both superior in taste and selection compared to Hed Kandi these days. The Ministry of Sound didn't improve Hed Kandi very much unfortunately. Very recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Stellar! Mark Doyle continues his musical greatness..........2006-09-05

As was the case with Hed Kandi, when Mark Doyle was at the helm, you could truly do no wrong by picking up anything they put out. Depending upon your preferences (Chill, Back to Love, Beach, Disco, Twisted Disco, etc), you were sure to find nothing but aural bliss.

So true was this with his Tokyo Disco/Project after his departure from Hed Kandi, taking with him artist Jason Brooks and a few dj's as well. Beautiful. His venture which now seems to be entitled Fierce Angel, is no different. The "Beach" set is amazing, but this Es Vive Ibiza set, which was also on Hed Kandi back in the day as well, is nothing short of amazing.

Dare I say, it is worth the price of this package alone just for the first disc. It is absolutely beautiful. I have not heard things of such beauty outside of a Bent cd, or perhaps something by Jose Padilla. Starting with tracks by Granddad Bob, others by Bonnie Bailey, Roger Sanchez, etc...it is all, incredible. Absolutely, completely gorgeous. First listened to it here on South Beach while the sun was still beautifully shining and reflecting off the Atlantic, yet from Miami itself, I could see dark storm clouds rolling in for some afternoon thunderstorms. In sun, in rain, this cd was perfect. So too was it at night, as the lights of downtown Miami began to flicker on from the back view of my rear penthouse balcony. Take a walk to the front of the house and open the doors to the front balcony, and I was met with the semi-moonlit night and the waves of the ocean gently lapping upon South Beach as this set continued to play, never changing the mood at all. Incredible.

Thank Mark Doyle for all you have contributed, and all you continue to contribute, to my life over these many years. It is deeply appreciated. This set is no exception and you will definitely appreciate it should you pick it up. I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars To me, her best.......2007-07-01

I have several CDs of Gheorghiu. This is the one I prefer. I also have the DVD of her and her husband in Elisir. It was entertaining, but like in her Casta Diva disc, I didn't think her coloratura passed muster. I thought her singing in the Verdi disc was anemic. Every time she bursts into Tu che le vanita, I immediately and always think of Callas. That was one of the things that hooked me on opera in the first place, though I'm not a big fan of Callas. It just isn't there when Gheorghiu does it, though that's only one aria on the disc. I think Gheorghiu is a little overrated (still), and I think it came about when she burst on the scene in lovebird duets with her husband. But in this recital, I think she does an adequate job, and I still have her other CDs (and more amazing, bought them in the first place). She has a pretty voice and uses it well enough I think in at least this recital.

5 out of 5 stars One of Gheorghiu's best recitals.......2007-01-09

I have played this CD numerous times since buying it many years ago. Whilst not 'perfect' to some, I still think it is one of Gheorghiu's best recitals recorded.

    5 out of 5 stars exquisite!.......2006-11-02

In this recording Ms. Gheorghiu shows why she is one of the most extraordinary voices of our time. Her phrasing, musicality and expression is impecable. I seriously recommend this CD to anyone who wants to know how an opera singer is supposed to be heard.

5 out of 5 stars Angela Gheoghiu is Wonderful.......2006-08-06

I love this album I can listen to her all day long.

    5 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise.......2006-02-24

I purchased this CD for one specific selection, and to my surprise found that I thoroughly enjoyed the entire recording! Ms Gheorghiu has a wonderful voice and knows how to "sell" an aria!!

Since there is absolutely zero info here about this album, I'll add this:
Vive La Différence! is Swedish pop band Eggstone's third album, which was released in Sweden and Japan in January 1997. It was the first - and last - full-length release by the band on their own record label Vibrafon. The album was preceded by the single Never Been A Better Day, as well as the sheet music for the entire album, in December. Vive La Différence!, along with the two previous Eggstone albums Eggstone In San Diego and Somersault, were re-issued on vinyl in 1997 by Vibrafon Records.

    5 out of 5 stars Valuable compendium.......2007-01-24

This set is extremely valuable, not only as an overview of Dame Joans career but because it contains three complete LP sets that have been very hard to find. The sets are the 2 LP French opera (operetta) set, the Mozart album and the Wagner album. Although some of these do not show her to her best advantage (the Wagner set) they all have some very beautiful things and the French items are superb. The annotations and photos are interesting as well and there are some piano songs with Bonynge that are released here for the first time along with a scene from a live Covent Garden Norma.

5 out of 5 stars Rareties available on CD at last!.......2006-03-29

While Joan Sutherland has recorded a number of impressive aria collections throughout the many years of her recording career, they tend to get lost in the shuffle of the countless reissues Decca/London has endlessly repackaged. While some of the original collections have appeared intact on CD--"The Art of the Prima Donna," "The Age of Bel Canto," "Love Live Forever" (her operetta collection that was originally titled "The Golden Age of Operetta"), to name a few--others are currently represented in the CD catalogue by only a few selections on discs that also include excerpts from complete opera recordings or duplicates of selections from other original collections. As a result, it has been impossible to assemble a CD collection of her recordings without a LOT of duplication, and some of the most interesting collections are still unavailable (e.g. "Command Performance" and "Serate Musicale").

While this newest set does include a lot of bits of this and that, ranging from her very first LPs to excerpts from complete recordings most Sutherland fans already have and a few "live" performances, what is perhaps most significant about it is that it features the complete contents of the "Sutherland Sings Wagner" LP--a real repertoire departure for her--and the double-LP album called "French Opera Gala" (in the U.S.--the British title was "Romantic French Arias"), neither of which, to the best of my knowledge, has been available on CD before. "Opera News" magazine once ran an article in which they asked various stars to name the one album that they felt best represented their artistry for future generations, and Dame Joan selected the "French Opera Gala," so for Sutherland fans, this is a long-awaited treat.

I'm not going to waste space saying how miraculous I consider Dame Joan's artistry. If you are familiar with her work already, you know whether you adore her or not; and if you aren't, this massive set is probably not the best place to start (that would be "The Art of the Prima Donna" album that introduced her to most listeners decades ago)--especially since this newest set doesn't contain the lyrics, a must for newcomers. Let's hope Decca/London gets around to releasing the rest of her recordings intact instead of endlessly scrambling and repackaging the same selections over and over.

    5 out of 5 stars Heavenly.......2006-01-31

I first heard of Dame Sutherland while on the internet while listening to a internet radio station. I was instantly a fan, her control, technique, and tone is perfectly executed and rivals the equally fantastic Maria Callas. She has a powerful voice and presence that will evoke every emotion from her listeners. Highly recommended to all Opera Diva fans.

5 out of 5 stars WHO ELSE CAN SING LIKE THIS TODAY?.......2005-04-10

This is Decca's second multi disc evaluation of this fantastic singer's long career and many recordings. True that a lot on the first set is duplicated here, but there are a few exceptions here and there that make it a worthy addition. Of particular interest are the very early items of Handel and Italian baroque arias, some forgotten song recordings and a live performance of the duet from Norma. It can't be said too many times - who can sing like this today? For sheer vocalism it's hard to find anyone on the same wavelength. This set will give very young opera goers an idea of what they missed.

      Album Description

Amon Düül II's 6th album Vive La Trance was originally released in 1973. The group experimented with world music rhythms on compositions such as Mozambique, risked unusual piano dissonances on Jalousie, proved their distinct feel for haunting rock songs on Trap, Dr. Jeckyll and Pig Man and allowing tracks such as Fly United to gleam with thoroughly strange organ sounds.

The result even pleased German press, who otherwise tended to treat comparable acts from other parts of Germany with a certain skepticism and arrogance. Germany's most critical music publication, Sounds, mused on the release of Vive La Trance: "The grating, grasping electronics have become even denser, more variable and dominant since Wolf City, lending Düül's sound a somewhat lighter, hovering element as an antithesis to the complicated, drum-driven rhythms." Beyond that, the musicians experimented - in the journalists opinion - with `bubbling, airy-spooky sounds that I'd love to fill my bathtub with.'

The songs on this recording tend to be shorter (averaging around 3 1/2 minutes), and more conventional in structure and subject matter, but there is an overlay of electronics and psychedelic effects that definitely keeps the music within the progressive realm.

Amon Düül II, the second formation of this now legendary band, are one of the earliest and best known of the German experimental (Krautrock) bands. For the complete re-issue series of the Amon Düül II catalogue, the CDs will be released as remastered deluxe editions, with enhanced booklets, featuring new liner notes and photos.

4 out of 5 stars Some good sounding Cuban music from the 1960s.......2005-10-18

This is a compilation, by a French producer I think, of Che-themed songs. Lots of Latin American bands. Some nice club recordings of Carlos Pueblo from the 1960s. A little bright, but clear. A good compilation. A few newer tracks from Europe too, which don't quite cut the mustard. Altogether relaxing folk music.

A very nice set. And I'm not usually a fan of South or Central American music. Che was just a minor and odd figure of recent history, about which there is cult of personality; but there's some nice music here.

5 out of 5 stars Gorw up and Understand JUAKY.......2001-04-12

Keep Castro and Guevara apart. They did fought together, but were different men. Guevara was a man that followed his heart. One should wish to have the spirit and strength to follow your believes. Are you following yours? The CD is fantastic, the music excellent.

5 out of 5 stars Great tribute to Che.......1999-06-06

This is a great tribute to Che, which brings Che back alive. The lyrics of the songs are very good and sometimes emotional. My favorite songs are: Nada mas and Guitarra en Duelo Mayor. On the cover there are even some very uncommon pics of Che. Don't hesitate to buy this one and ... don't forget: El Che vive!

      5 out of 5 stars A masterpiece.......1999-05-12

This compilation which is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Che Guevara's death can be characterised as excelent. All the tracks are compositions refered on Che's life and fights, mostly emerging from Latin American countries or countries that greatly affected by his ideology. Hasta Siempre is the major composition of the album, presented in three different versions. The best version of this song is singed by Soledad Bravo, and personally I think that is one of the best slow latin compositions. Maria Farandouri is also well singing the same track, -in a faster tempo- which was a major hit during mid 70s at Greece. The album is an excelent piece for people who like political music but also appreciate good latin compositions.

4 out of 5 stars A quality tribute to Che Guevara........1998-06-16

Songs commemorating the 30-year anniversary of El Che's death. Most are very good. Songs by Carlos Puebla, Atahualpa Yupanqui, a speech by Che and songs by many other artists.

5 out of 5 stars A Must For Lovers of Operetta.......2005-08-30

Naxos has made a reputation for itself by releasing good quality performances by somewhat unfamiliar artists and greatly adding to the classical and operatic repertoire. For Kalman's DIE CSARDARSFURSTIN (THE GYPSY PRINCESS), Naxos departs from its usual format just a bit. No it has not released a sub par recording, but it is under the direction of Richard Bonynge, one of classical music's most beloved conductors.

As anyone who has listened to Bonynge recordings in the past knows, he has a way of bringing out small highlights in musical scores while also looking at the whole of the performance. The many recordings he made with his wife Dame Joan Sutherland attest to this well. He brings these same qualities to this recording. Overall the soloists are good in this recording and each show in their performances that while operetta may be lighter music, the skills needed to perform it well are the same that make grand opera work as well. The set includes spoken dialogue as well, and for those of us who are not proficient in German (like me), the dialogue is lost and may even be a bit distracting (for me, while I do not understand a word, it makes the recording authentic). Overall the recording has a light, uplifting quality to it and it makes for greet listening at time we just want to sit down and enjoy a fun recording. The recording also contains waltzes and music from other Kalman operettas which also makes for enjoyable listening.

Now that Naxos has released one of Kalman's better known operettas, maybe it's time to release his most famous work GRAFIN MARIZA with its great showstoppers for our listening pleasure. If it follows the great start of this recording of DIE CSARDASFURSTIN, we can anticipate something wonderful

Mexican superstar Lucia Mendez is in full diva mode on Vivir, her first album since 2000's Dulce Romance, a collection of classic bolero tunes. Vivir is a vanity project at every angle, from the glamour-shot CD artwork to the schizophrenic genre-swapping. It also makes for a lot of glossy fun. Mendez duets with Los Tucanes de Tijuana's Mario Quintero on "La Pareja Dispareja," a convincing opposites-attract cumbia. She covers Juan Gabriel's "Si Quieres" and also tackles tunes by Kike Santander (Thalia, Gloria Estefan, Jennifer Lopez) and tropical troubadour Frankie Marcos, who produced much of the album. There are spicy salsa interludes, smoldering ballads and disco ditties, but Mendez hardly breaks a sweat. She knows how to make the most of her limited vocal range and tackles every song with a glamorous aplomb. For pure nostalgia, dig "Corazon de Piedra." The original ballad version was sung by Mendez as the theme for her 1985 soap-opera Tu o Nadie and topped the Latin charts. Featured here as the album closer, it becomes a campy club track you'll have a hard time resisting on the dance floor. --Joey Guerra

5 out of 5 stars VIVE is Lucia Mendez "Bomb-U2," or Tori Amos "Bee".......2005-03-04

VIVE is the album Lucia Mendez waited all her life to record. Her heart is the essence of the album. She has never sounded better than in the keys she is singing. Her musicianship is well composed into layers of high regard instruments, wether it's the bajo, violin, piano or synthes, Mendez vocals is what shines. Delicately composed to her life and experiences, this album will stand the test of time. "Aunque Me Duela El Alma" is a perfect confection of pop meets tejano, with harmonious choruses in the background, and that word, "Te pido, que sigamos siendo amigos," was never said with such a rhetoric voice.

This album will surely be in everyones wish list, and the oo's will prove that Lucy is has everlasting has legends like Elvis Presley or The Beatles.

      3 out of 5 stars A different Lucia ..........2004-08-27

When I first ordered this CD through Amazon, I was excited to see a new album, by one my all time favorite Latin DIVA ... then, the CD came out and people were trashing the CD and the artist ... and I was like ... OMG ... what did she do? Does she sound that bad? Bad choice of music???

But I had to wait until I actually listened to the CD to say how I feel about it ... So, I am going to say what I feel about each song ...

Song: "Aunque me duela el alma" - the rhythm, the sound and her voice, sounds way better than I expected ... 4 stars

Song: "El Cubano esta Loco" - Most probably one of the best song on the CD, a different type of music for Lucia, but she does sound great, and hopefully it could be a great hit for her ... 5 stars

Song: "La Pareja Dispareja" - OMG ... I guess Tejano music is not for Lucia ... the song sounds great, but the voice part is not the best of her ... it was better than expected ... but also could have been done differently and should have sounded better ... 2 stars

Song: "Que te Ruegue tu Madre" - another different way of her into music ... it sounds great and she does a great job here ... 3 stars

Song: "Si Quieres" - very well done, her voice sounds great ... and its one of those songs that you are listening to it, and you know it Lucia singing ... just like a typical Lucia song ... love it ... 5 stars

Song: "Vive" - the intro of the songs, sounds great ... but then afterwards ... it seems she is forcing herself into singing it ... a great message to women, to love themselves first and not let a man beat them ... but the chorus for me is what sounds better than the other parts of the song ... at some points, her voice sounds very weak ... she could have done much better ... 2 stars

Song: "Asi Soy Yo" - the most romantic song on the album ... and yes, back to the roots of the DIVA ... she sounds pure Lucia and is as "Si Quieres", a typical Lucia's songs ... 5 stars

Song: "Atrapame" - a re-make, which she should have said no to ... she sounds just like another regular singer ... but hey, she is trying new things ... and even though I don't like the song, she sounds great ... 3 stars

Song: "Almas Gemelas" - the most annoying song on the album, I just plain don't like Lucia singing Tejano music ... that is not for her ... and the guy from Tucanes sounds annoying ... 2 stars

Song: "Corazon de Piedra" - a remake of one of her greatest hits ... the song as a ballad sounded perfect, but this new remake as a dance pop version, even though shouldn't have been done, sounds way better than I expected ... 4 stars ...

So, overall ... the songs are done in a different way, but after 5 years of not hearing from her, I was expecting something much better ... and yes, she is not a young singer/actress anymore, and I would want her to continue doing what she did with the last CD's of Boleros ... She did a wonderful job with these types of songs, and I am sure she will learn from this one ...

Great Job Lucia ... but as I said before, it could have been better ... I could have given it a 4 star rating, but there is still place for improvement ... maybe with the next album ...
