Amazon.com essential recording
Every generation of high schoolers needs a band to express the angst and agony specific to 14-to-18-year-olds. At present, that band is the Offspring. Their songs are aimed squarely at a younger crowd, from "The Meaning of Life" to "Leave It Behind" to "I Choose," and especially "All I Want" and "Change the World". Their occasionally insightful lyrics are anything but obscure, which is actually refreshing; there's real pain behind "Gone Away," and "Way Down the Line" taps into the common fear among the younger crowd of turning out just like our parents. Musically, the Offspring are hardly complex, but then complexity isn't a requirement. This is music to play at full volume, bang your head to, and annoy your neighbors. Cool. -- Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
The last great album from the Offspring.......2006-12-08
It was pretty steep to top "Smash", but the Offspring still managed to pump out an excellent album with "Ixnay on the Hombre"; the last great album to come from the band. "The Meaning of Life", "Leave It Behind", and "I Choose" are great, while "Mota", "All I Want", and "Way Down the Line" are fist pumping songs that harken back to the Offspring's classic punk days. Smash single "Gone Away" is still a great song, and besides the humerous clips "Disclaimer" and "Intermission", there's really no real filler tracks here. "Ixnay on the Hombre" is a fantastic look back at a time before the Offspring became mainstream darlings with "Americana", a time when Dexter Holland's lyrics still had some meaning to them and the chords and riffs weren't written to be radio friendly. Though there are times when you can sense a nig difference, and a bit of a step down, from the Offspring's earlier, and best, material, "Ixnay on the Hombre" still manages to be a superbly crafted disc, with the only real downside being that it has to come to an end.
Great Release, Similar to Smash's style........2006-09-02
Each Offspring album is a bit different in its own small way. Although, this is the one probably most like their breakthrough masterpiece Smash. If you enjoyed Smash a lot, like I did, then this should be the next in line for you to try out. Not saying that their newer stuff is somehow not as good, they just have a slightly different sound that the earlier two. This follow up just shows how The Offspring are keeping their punk rock style sound strong with each release. It's also a really good follow up album. My favorite tracks are probably "Gone Away", "I Choose", "Amazed", and "Me & My Old Lady". Here's everything else rated...
2. The Meaning Of Life - 9.5/10
3. Mota - 9/10
4. Me & My Old Lady - 10/10
5. Cool To Hate - 10/10
6. Leave It Behind - 8.5/10
7. Gone Away - 10/10
8. I Choose - 10/10
10. All I Want - 9/10
11. Way Down The Line - 7.5/10
12. Don't Pick It Up - 9/10
13. Amazed - 10/10
14. Change The World - 10/10
Overall: 93% A-
It's just another solid release from The Offspring. If you enjoyed Smash you will probably enjoy this as well. It's just another good release by a pretty awesome punk rock band.
average...large decline gets started........2006-08-02
ignition, smash, and self-titled are amazing albums!...but what about this? the follow-up to smash....not nearly as bad as the dreck that came after this album, but nowhere near as good as anything before.
the thing that makes it a decent album is the fact that it get boring really fast...i did, at one time, think this was their best, but listening to it next to smash, i saw it for the ugly alternative radio rock that it was. it has some interesting tidbits in it, but nothing to keep me coming back for more..let alone warranting itself a stay in my cd collection.
hopefully, offspring will take a hint from bad religion and make more music worthy of their former smash era status..but then again, bad religion were even great on a major label themselves.
awesome offspring album!.......2006-07-19
this has got to one of the offspring's best CDs, next to smash, and ignition! some of the songs like: "me & my old lady", "mota", "cool to hate", and "don't pick it up", are kind of wierd, but the other songs are awesome! some of the best include: "the meaning of life", "gone away", "i choose", "amazed", "all i want", "change the world", and just all the other songs that i didn't say was weird. the intro song is awesome, because it's spoken by jello biafra - and dead kennedys are like one of my favorite bands - so that's a huge plus! i think this is like more of an expiremental re-make of smash, and i'm just glad they didn't over do it, they just did it right. so anyways, if you're new to the offspring, you might wanna start with smash, or ignition, so you can get a better taste of their true sound. but if you already know who the offspring is - get this now!
classic album from when they were good.......2006-02-23
Ignition, Smash, and Ixnay are their three best. If you don't want to believe me, take a look at the other reviews on this site. I'm glad to see that most people seem to agree with me on this.
Ixnay is essentially Smash with some experimentation mixed in. Songs like Mota and Me & My Old Lady are a bit "weird", and I think this is why some people don't like them, but both songs have really rockin' choruses. Me & My Old Lady has that annoying ball & chain refrain, sure, but it also has the great Offspring surf guitar sound.
I give this album five stars because of two songs, "Gone Away" and "Amazed". These songs are more than just "slow stuff" to balance the fast songs. "Gone Away" is an emotional wringer. If you can listen to a song about loss and let go, and not feel sappy, you will love this song. It is a simple song musically but it is a classic. "Amazed" is much of the same, but is a little less strong.
The rest of the songs in this album are Smash-style rockers, but less strong overall with uninspired tracks like "Cool to Hate" and "Way Down the Line", which may be entertaining lyrically, but are musically un-interesting.
I would strongly recommended that anyone, not just pop-punk fans, listen to this album. This music isn't just for kids. The Offspring is pretty much the only band that I listened to during my high school days that I still listen to now. You'd think that a CD like Ixnay would get old. but it hasn't, because this isn't your run-of-the-mill pop rock.

Beautiful.......2001-09-29
This is a must have if you are not familiar with zarzuela (Madrid's response to Vienna's operetta). It's a nice combination of arias sung by Caballe in beautiful voice and joined by her husband tenor Bernabe Marti for the duets. The CD comes with translations for non Spanish speaking which will greatly improve your satisfaction.
Caballe is in as beautful voice as ever and feels at home with this non very taxing repertoire. She doesn't overindulge in her other times frequent "floatiness" and is very expressive throughout. Thogh sometimes when some coloratura is needed she tends to drop the consonants blurring her enunciation of the words. We are used to this from her opera recordings though she's not as bad as Sutherland.
Marti is a nice tenor but is not in the same league as Caballe. That's why he never got star recognition though he made a few recordings whith his wife, like Bellini's "Il Pirata". His is a lyrical tenor, a little throaty but with nice projection of the sound. He sounds a little strained over the "passagio" but hits all the notes. More importantly, he compensates for his lack of vocal lustre with burning impersonations of his characters. Passionate and burning in some, tender and caressing in others. In this respect is better than his wife who is a little more doll like hidding behind her vocal resources. So I specially enjoyed the many and varied duets in this recording.
Strongly recommended.

One of his very best CDs........1999-11-01
In this album, you get a little bit of everything, all the songs are beautifull and your sure not to get tired of it. This is the one album every julio iglesias fan has to have.
The best songs Julio Iglesias ever sang........1999-05-13
In this production, Julio Iglesias met the best songwriter he ever had. He sings these songs in his usual way, but they make you feel he wrote these songs himself, making you believe they are his true feelings.
Julio is again a favorite on this collection of latin songs........1998-07-29
The different flavors of music make this CD a must on Julio's collection. His rendition of a Peruvian Waltz and also "Un Hombre Solo" is a delicious ballad that gives his unique sounds and interpretations. Arrangements are some of the best from his wide repertoire.

Customer Reviews:
this album is hot!.......2004-10-28
Although I try to keep an open mind to many genres of music, I have to admit that when it comes to Latin music, merengue is one of my LEAST favorite styles. In my collection of salsa, corrido, mariachi, cumbia, joropo. ballad, llanera. samba, pagode and mambo CDs there is barely any merengue...much less any CDs filled with it. Oh, except there is one CD and it's this one. As a music listener, Fulanito breaks down my reserve about the repetitive and---oftentimes, for me--headache inducing beats. I often associate merengue with drunk men in loud suits with even louder cologne!
Fulanito's modern take on merengue's sound and style is original, catchy and naughty all at once. The lyrics are filled with innuendo and are delivered in catchy and sing-songy raps over the backbeat of a techno rhythm, mixed with Latin and Italian influences (the occasional accordeon riffs to remind us of the mafiaso image the band wants to maintain). They also integrate cumbia into their merengue sound on "Merencumbiaso" (Track #3). Some of my favorite tracks on this album are "Mano Fria" (Translation: Cold Hand), "La Novela" (Translation: The Soap Opera), and "Cepillo" (Translation: Comb). It is almost impossible to shake the highly catchy hooks that the tracks open with. It's like a team of Dominican guys decked out in mafia style suits with Panama Hats (Re: See the photo of the fellas on the cover of the album) have spotted you on the dance floor, have grabbed your hands and summoned you to surrender to the beat of the merengue. Irresistable!
Fun to listen and dance to.......2003-07-13
This is a great CD. You will find yourself moving to the music and their hot beats. Even if you don't speak Spanish, you'll find their rhyming hot and catchy.
Lovin' Fulanito!!!.......2003-02-21
I can't help but move when I listen to this CD. The music, the singing, the rapping are all tight! Too bad I don't speak spanish!
Shake that thang!.......2000-11-05
I LOVE this CD. I first heard La Novela down in Mexico and knew I had to have the whole CD. It's been in my CD player ever since! Guallando will make you get up and dance. Indeed, the whole album will get any party jumpin'! Merengue mixed with smooth rhymes and pounding beats will be infectious to anyone!! Get this CD!
it will make you jump out of your seat.......2000-06-30
I've had somewhat of an odyssey finding this CD -- when I first heard the song La novela about 6 months ago (Asi que es me gusta a mi, cuando tu te mueves asi, me rompiste el corazon...), I kept trying to figure out the artist, but the DJ never said who it was. I tried calling the radio stations, but could never get a live person. I tried searching for the song lyrics and the title I thought it had, but as you can see, that song's title is actually La novela. But then I remembered part of the lyric that went "El hombre mas famoso de la tierra -- fulanito de tal" and when I was browing CDs on Amazon, I recognized the group and heard the song. I love merengue and dominican music, but this is an even better combination. These guys combine rap, hip hop, merenge and house music to make a unique, danceable and high energy combination. If I were doing step aerobics to this, I'd be 100 pounds thinner by now. If you haven't discovered this disc yet, buy it now -- almost every song is good and the beat is incredible. Use it as your exercise/workout disc. I can't believe I finally found this group. Great stuff!

Customer Reviews:
Perfecto, inolvidable.......2006-02-10

Album Description
"What has six legs, three heads, sings in Spanish, and sounds like a herd of dinosaurs marching across a pre-historic Patagonian beach? Why, it must be Argentina's phenomenal Los Natas, whose earth-shaking brand of doom metal ranks with the best yet heard in this new millennium." - ALL MUSIC GUIDE
"While being from Argentina certainly keeps Los Natas from getting the attention they deserve, it has certainly helped them to craft a sound that is all their own ... hopefully with this disc, the guys will get the attention they really deserve and turn more of us gringos on to what we've been missing for the past three albums." - BULLY
"Once again, there is nothing evil about a band whose name is Satan spelled backwards: just heavy psychedelia the way it should be." - DIGITAL METAL
"Along with a little change in their name, the Argentinean masters of trippy heaviness decided to experiment with their sound as well. While the successful recipe of writing brilliant sonic journeys would lead them to another psychedelic masterpiece ... Los Natas went for the hard route instead." - MONOLITH
I don't know what time it is in Argentina right now, but for Los Natas it must be some time in the mid-seventies because the gods of Buenos Aries burnout rock are back doing what they do best - and that means fuzzed-out psychedelic rock jams that rival the best work Black Sabbath ever did!
After five years of dabbling in the more experimental side of the psych rock genre, the boys are back with a proper follow-up to 2001's Corsario Negro. Once again produced by heavy hitter Billy Anderson (Melvins, Neurosis) at the luxurious Abasto Studios and recorded on vintage equipment straight to 2" tape, the group has created an instant classic of a new genre that can only be described as "Latin heavy psych." This means a whole new round of globetrotting for Los Natas, with a summer tour booked in South America, European dates through the fall, and a U.S. tour early next year centered around SXSW 2007.

stop screwing around, and buy this album. Most inovated rock thats out now. You won't be disapointed. I can give a technical synopsis and break down of the tracks, but I won't. I am not a music nerd. This is for rockers who want their music loud, with no bull s#$^.
