Customer Reviews:
Various Artists, NOT La Tropa Vallenata.......2005-12-11
I bought this album some time ago thinking it was a new one by La Tropa Vallenata. At the time, the Amazon listing did not list the names of the other artists, so there was no indication that it was not a new album by LTV.
The one track by La Tropa Vallenata, "Chambacu", is a remake of a classic, recorded some time ago by a young girl(?) by name of Aurita Castillo. Like many Cumbia songs, it may be an old traditional number that has been covered by many over the years. Aurita's version is very cute, yet good; she sings well. It can be found on various Cumbia collections, for example on the Discos Fuentes label (I don't know of any on Amazon: I bought mine in Mexico).
The LTV version is a bit wild and loose - like they were pretending to be borracho perhaps - but good and tight, nice vocals. For completist fans of LTV, it may be worth buying this CD, as their version does not appear on any of their signature albums. For others, this album gives a decent range of Columbian/Tropical/Cumbia music by a number of artists.
The best albums to start with for LTV are "Los Caminos de la Vida" (big chart album in 1995), "Cumbia de los Pobres", and "Cumbias de mi Tierra". The do several Colombian styles besides Cumbia.
Muy Sabroso!...(Not meant to eat!).......2000-12-04
Once in while you find yourself switching from one CD to the other after only listening to a few songs from that CD. And unless you have a CD burner you wish all your favorite songs were on one album, but guess what? This album may become very helpful to you if like good cumbias on one album. Besides having a good line up of artists, they put in some good songs. One thing I like about having a collection of artists in one album is that you can sample some of thier song and may eventually lead you to buy more of thier albums. The first track "Ojos Azules", by the Llayras is a beatiful andina style of song that stimulates your mind and soul. The second track "Baila Mi Ritmo", by Chon Aruza Y La Furia Colombiana makes you want to dance. From one song to the next, there is a little bit of something for everyone. The only complaint I have is that some artists version of classic songs are not too well done, but they still have a unique style of thier own and you may actually like it even better then I did. Check it out!
nice variety.......2000-01-03
I'm buying this one based on the samples. It has a nice variety, sounds like a flute and uke thrown in the mix, also a female vocalist.
I have Cumbias de mi Tierra, and it has great harmonies and unique arrangements, really a tight CD. I like that one far more than any of the others, based on the samples...
