Album Description

This compilation consists of 10 selections of old style traditional Cuban music. It includes 3 compositions by composer Silvio Cebrian, new arrangements of Lagrimas Negras, by Miguel Matamoros, Que Mala Suerte, by Arsenio Rodriguez, and Mujeres de Mayari composed by Francisco Repilado known as Compay Segundo to the music world. There are 4 original compositions, Son Bailadores, arranged by Papo Ortega, composed by Mario J. Ortiz; Guajiro Soy, and the title track Recordando a Cuba, that tribute the 6 original Cuban provinces, were co-written by Papo Ortega and Sergio Sori. Finally, but first on the album is Son Cubanoson is a son montuno written the founder of Cubanoson to introduce this dance orchestra to the world.

Last Saturday it was my pleasure to hear Papo Ortega's CubanoSon perform live at the Westgate Lounge, a popular Latin music and dance club in Westchester, New York, that features the best Latin bands including the best of the new. CubanoSon performed songs from their new CD Recordando a Cuba. This new recording brings a fresh interpretation to a highly danceable style of music known as the "Son". The Son originated in Cuba in the early part of the 1900's and was popularized by orchestras like Arsenio Rodríguez y Su Conjunto, La Orquesta Aragon, Sonora Matancera and José Fajardo y Su Orquesta. This musical style spread like wild fire throughout the world and gave birth to El Son Montuno, and along with El Punto Cubano, is the origins of what we now know as Salsa and Charanga. Here is proof of the Son's powerful influence on Latin music today. Take a wonderfully fresh and modern musical journey through the heart, soul and rhythms of Cuba. Bravo CubanoSon!

The music is classic Rocio Durcal hits. Shaila is a good singer. The CD includes some of Rocio Durcal's many hits. Shaila sings them well and adds a modern beat to the classics. All in all a good CD

Shaila definitivamente tiene talento de sobra. Si bien su voz se asemeja a la de su madre, tiene inflexiones y matices que la diferencian y modernizan. Tengo la certeza de que al igual que hiciera Luis Miguel con los boleros, Shaila logrará poner de moda esas hemosas canciones de antaño. Su voz es refrescante y su interpretación llena de sentimiento. A diferencia de otros hijos de famosos que se han aprovechado de su apellido para llegar a donde están sin tener mérito alguno, Shaila por el contrario, tiene lo necesario para brillar con luz propia. Enhorabuena!!!

Disco maravilloso en homenaje a su madre , la irrepetible Rocío Dúrcal,dónde Shaila elige un ramillete de canciones de todas las epocas de la gran Rocío.
No se pierdan la magistral versión jazz que Shaila hace del tema "costumbres" y el magnifico pasodoble español "si yo tuviera rosas"tema con el que Rocío se declaró a Junior (su marido).
Un cd super-recomendable dónde tambien hay temas inéditos escritos para Shaila como el tema "vuelvete la luna" dedicado a su mamá cantado con una impresionante sensibilidad y que en España entró directamente al número 1 de la lista de discos mas vendidos en el pais como premio del pueblo español que tanto quiso y querra siempre a la artista mas importante de habla hispana de todos los tiempos Rocío Dúrcal!!!.

Beautiful bolero album from Lavoe!.......2006-06-09

Recordando...is a change of pace for Lavoe. It is mostly ballads but don't let that dissapoint you. Lavoe makes these songs his own and the end product his simply amazing.

Si te gusta la musica romantica del famoso trio de Mexico, Los Panchos, entonces de va gustar este disco.Chente canta catorce canciones de Los Panchos en su inolvidable voz y estilo. Aungue las canciones son de Los Panchos no se presentan como se presetaron originalmente. Si hay guitara como Los Panchos pero tambien hay otros instrumentos que llenan este bonito disco.Canciones que son especial incluyen, "Sin Ti" donde Chente canta muy bonito en su voz fino, el romantico "Nuestro Amor, el triste cancion "No Trates de Mentir" y el alegre "Un Rayito de Luna." Este es una colecion de musica romnatico de otra era pero el amor nunca muere y siempre esta de moda. Si buscas un disco romantico de Chente aqui lo tienes, no buscas mas. Recomendido para gente que les gusta estar en amor, estan buscando amor o perdieron un amor. La musica es cultura.

Mexican music doesn't get any better than this!.......2003-01-11

Los Panchos are perhaps the best-loved Mexican trio and they recorded a lot of truly wonderful and timeless music. If you like the Panchos stuff, wait until you hear this one! I mean Vicente Fernandez takes what were already some of the most brilliant trio songs of all time and brings them to an even more outstanding level with his incomparable pipes!
It's an unbeatable combination. Whoever got the idea for Chente to record these songs should really be proud. The result is a collection of exceptionally outstanding songs you can listen to many times before reaching for something else.

Cuban-born Casanova began piano study at the age of five, and within three years was selected to enter the Music Conservatory in Havana, Cuba. By the age of 13 she had already performed major works by composers such as J.S. Bach, Beethoven and Schubert. Upon her family's move to the United States, she enrolled in the San Francisco Conservatory, and later received her performance degree from the University of Redlands. A classic.......2005-06-25

This production is very pleasant. This is a sequel to a previous cd called "recordando una misma senda". In "reconrdando una misma senda" and "recordando otra vez" Marcos Witt makes a compilation of classic Spanish Christian songs. Unlike secular music, many times classic Christian songs are not exposed to new generations. If you appreciate Christian music this is a good album or if you grew up listening this songs at home it will bring back good memories. What is great about Marcos Witt is that with all of his work he strives for excellence. In this cd he takes classic songs and fits them with a more contemporary style, this may be pop ballad, acoustic, or Mexican folk. It is also good to know that Marcos Witt has become an icon for Christian music. He is a man with integrity and someone that I have met in person.

ANOTHER Live Recording? .......2004-08-17

Marcos Witt has been gaining prominence as a strong voice within the Spanish Christian music community. Indeed, in the spanish-speaking world he is probably only rivaled by the much more enchanting Jaci Velasquez. With "Recordando Otra Vez" Witt indeed shows he has a voice and talent, but the results is almost medicore because here he presents nothing fresh or original, simply yet ANOTHER live recording. It's as if Witt has become frightened of recording an original studio album. Reports indicate he is doing a Christmas CD at Abbey Road studios in England, but those are Christmas songs which you can rarely do injustice to, what we're waiting for is original material done in the studio. In fact, sources tell me that radio stations have received studio-produced singles for songs in this album such as "Te Tengo A Ti" and "Ayer, Oye Y Siempre." Marcos Witt is no Dave Matthews and he shouldn't pretend to be, while Matthews (a secular artist but a great one nonetheless) can get away with releasing one studio album and three live ones, you need to understand that the live material is taken from the studio work. Witt ONLY presents his stuff live which is a Pentecostal trend that will surely die out quickly when better artists like Annette Moreno and Rojo release their material first as well-produced, rich studio works. Those complaints aside, some of the material here does indeed work well like the emotional mariachi song "Te Tengo A Ti" which is richly textured and cries out for a studio release as well as the eloquent, stylish "Ayer, Oye Y Siempre," both songs show Witt's impressive vocal range and talent for composition ("Te Tengo A Ti" is a Marcos Witt original as he so egotistically informs us at the beginning of the track). "Recordando Otra Vez" is a descent album, but we wish Witt would literally go into a studio and do it otra vez.

An Awesome Collection!!!.......2004-05-26

I was so excited to get this CD - the only one I had of Marcos Witt's was Dios de Pactos. This one is rapidly becoming my favorite! It is recorded live and that is one of the things I love about it - the excitement and involvement of the crowd! This is a must-get for anyone who enjoys the worship songs of Marcos Witt!!
