Pure, undiluted feeling.......2001-04-12
With a mature voice -and those incredible low notes of hers- Elena Burke gives in this CD what probably will be one her last offerings. Produced by someone who understands her and knows her needs, composer Marta Valdes, the recording is astonishing. It recalls Elena at her beginnings because of the format: Just Enriqueta Almanza at the piano creating the necessary support. The selection is exquisite, a whole gamut: From old classics like Un Viejo Amor -rediscovered in her voice- to a tour de force like Tu y mi musica, a song I'm totally convinced not every singer can pull out because of what it demands from the singer, passing by the highly dramatic Esta casa and Hay todavia una cancion, which sounds like a swan song. When one thinks how difficult it must be to catch and project the different moods of different songs in just 2 or 3 minutes, only then one realizes the greatness of this singer. Years ago, a Mexican critic said that Cuba could have had a good operatic contralto in Elena Burke, but would have lost its best popular singer.

2002 Release from Dominican Self-started and Hardworking Singer/Guitarist. Luis Vargas Self-produced his First Single, Promoted and Sold by Himself. Supported by Local Artists Pedro Pimentel, Artemio Sanchez, Antonio Carrasco, and Anthony Santos, his Music Began Being Played by Local Radio Stations. After Issuing his Music Through an Independent Label, Sony International Signed Him Up. This Enhanced CD for Pc/Mac Includes Video, Interviews, Photos and Bachata Lessons.

A wonderful cd-good pure bachata.......2003-05-12
This is by far my favorite album by Luis Vargas. This one reminds me of "Volvio el dolor" which was his most successful album of all time. The bachatas on this cd are romantic, delicate, soft and rhythmic. You will definitely relate to what I am saying once you sample this bachata "en persona". All the bachatas are great both for listening and dancing. Traditionally I am not a fan of the merengues included by bachata singers but they are great too. Luis really rose to the occasion this time and just in time when bachata has acquired a rising interest on an international level. I was particularly pleased with "Dos hombres bebiendo" and "Yo mismo la vi". I recommend this album to all fans of bachata and fans of Luis Vargas. This particular album is a treasure.
