Absolutely Beautiful Guitar Music.......2003-12-30

I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and began purchasing LP's by Los Indios Tabajaras (LIT) around 30 years ago. About five years ago, after the LP's started wearing out and CD's became popular, I got on the internet and purchased Serie Platino and Maria Elena/Always In My Heart through CDNow. I recommend Serie Platino highly, primarily because it contains "Penelope." For anyone who does not have the LIT version of Penelope and is trying to decide which of many CD's by LIT to buy first, I would strongly recommend picking a CD containing Penelope. In my opinion, it is probably one of the most beautiful, melodic songs ever played on guitar. I have sat and listened to it over and over on many occasions. Although there are several great songs on the CD, it is worth purchasing for Penelope alone.
I am now looking for a CD version of their "Casual Classics", but don't believe it is available, at least yet.

Touches the heart.......1999-10-17

I first heard them when I was 14yrs (1964) at a friends. His father made classical guitars as a hobby. My friend and I where of course Beatle fans but we loved Los Indios Tabarajas also. In fact we both learned to play classical guitar by listening to their music. Such talent!!!. I wish I could have seem in concert. Well this album represents very much the music that touched our hearts and continues to touch everyone else's that I introduce this music to no matter how young or old. Even my son is a fan of them, I hope to see more of their CD's in the future cause I wore out all of my LP's

THE best author of children's songs in Spanish.......2005-10-01

Francisco Gabilondo Soler is the best author of songs for children in Spanish that I have ever heard. The lyrics, the music, the style, the stories he tells are wonderful. He was on the radio when I was a child (I'm over 70) and he has become a classic. I think adults can enjoy him at least as much as children.
This particular CD is missing a song, #11 Che Arana. Too bad. It happens to be one of my favorites.

Like the other reviewers, I too grew up listening to Cri Cri. I love the songs, they also take me back to my childhood My only complaint is that it lists the song 'Che Arana' as being on the play list, but at leat on my CD, the song was not to be found.

Took me back to my youth... Pure genius........2000-02-01

I was only a child barely learning how to speak, when I first heard Cri Cri. He touches you in the simplest of ways, yet reaches you in the deepest of ways. Francisco was ahead of his time, and will be remembered always as a master of entertainment.

This is a great collection of children's song to have. They have entertained several generations of people and are still very well liked. I hope that the music sheets for this songs could be available for those who can play and would like to play for their children.

I like other artists more but worth a listen.......2005-01-23

Picked this CD up cheap with a Borders coupon because I was curious to hear Alejandra's music. If you're a Lila Downs, Lhasa or Atercipelados fan, this is going to sound obvious, very commercial, and a bit corny to you BUT it is worth checking out given Alejandra's high place in the Spanish-language rock pantheon. Serious listeners need to hear this if only to gain perspective. World-music hipsters....you have been warned...

It's live (for the most part), and full of ballads..........2001-07-25

Alejandra Guzman is known as the "Queen Of Rock En Espanol." Her deep, raspy vocals are perfect for the style of music she performs. I love this CD, and it doesn't bother me that the majority of the tracks are live. Unfortunately, it doesn't indicate this anywhere on the CD itself, so that's a little deceiving. There's a few songs where you don't even know they're live, until you hear the crowd applauding at the end. Also, if you're looking to "rock," then don't really expect to on this compilation, because most of the songs are ballads. All that aside, this is a cool CD, with some nice songs.

If you like Ale in Concert, buy this CD. I do not. The description of the CD should clearly state that this is a LIVE version of most of the songs. I will try to get my money back.

Aqui estan los mejores exitos de la Diva del Rock Latino. Si duda es la mejor coleccion de exitos de Alejandra Guzman. Sinceramente no hay ni habra alguna cantante que se pueda parecer a Alejandra. Un exelente disco, todas las 19 canciones que tiene el CD son lo mejor de lo mejor.

Alejandra is my favorite singer I love her style. Her music inspires. She is the best spanish singer of spanish-rock thats why she is called "La Reina del Rock en Espanol" a title that was given to the artist by the media in Mexico.Other good artist are "Mana" and Cafe "Tacuba".

Amazing voice!.......2003-06-24

I discovered Maria Dolores Pradera quite by accident. She's fantastic. I like making my own compilations, with my favourite songs, but when I tried to chose some from this disc, it was not very easy. In the end I chose 8 songs, but I love all of them. The music is romantic, the guitar is played beautifully, the rhythms, either soft and sensual or a bit more lively, pull at your heartstrings. And the voice...Oh, this voice...Like warm honey or melting chocolate, like a lover singing her love, a woman crying with passion.
A great CD in all respects. Buy it!

she can visit the great South American cities of one hundred years ago. Those coastal cultures, which now exist only in some forgotten period architecture, come to life here in her music. She is truly a genius at interpreting the music of this time and place. No one does it better. I wish I could travel with her back to the Lima or Santiago of 1900. Fortunately, these cultures live again thanks to her. You can hear the warm summer nights of these places, and the eternal struggle between men and women. My favorites are songs like Fina Estampa, about a gentleman walking down the street, or De Carne y Hueso, about a woman who simply cannot understand her (ex?)novio. Atahualpa Yupanqui wrote the poignant Tu Que Puedes Vuelvete, and Pradera interprets his song about a wanderer and a river, brilliantly. Some collections are made up of mostly ho-hum music, with a few selections that stand out. This CD is wonderful listening from beginning to end. I'm sad because I know that few will ever hear this music. But at least this musical treasure exists, and I got my copy.

LOVELY CUBAN BOLEROS AND MAMBOS.......2007-01-20

This music will be nostalgic for any American who grew up watching Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball in "I Love Lucy." I loved this CD so much that I bought four copies and doled them out for Christmas presents. These Cuban boleros and mambos are incredibly danceable and singable.

The greatest of his genre.......2001-08-29

As a boy in New York City, I went to the Spanish language Movies twice a week.I heard and saw the most famous of all the singing mexican Mariachi (Vaqueros), Pedro Vargas, Pedro Infante, jorge Negrete, and Tony Aguilar, but none could transmit the soul and passion for their songs like Aceves Mejia. his voice flowed from octave to octave without interruption. what ever the story in the song I did'nt just hear it, I felt it. I highly recommend this album to all of the incurable romantics, like myself.

a glorious classic.......2000-10-04

I've loved this marvelous singer since childhood, but as I age my appreciation deepens for this incredible music. Few songs are as beautiful as "El Crucifijo de Piedra", and sung with as much soul. His "Malagueña" is a total delight, as are "Rogaciamo", "Tata Dios", and many more.

I'm not certain when exactly these were recorded...I first heard most of them in the 50's, and though the sound may be "old", this CD more than makes up for it in the sheer loveliness of the melodies and interpretation.

If you like Mexican music, Miguel Aceves Mejia is a must in your collection, and this is an excellent compilation of this extraordinary singer and his great songs.

A Nadie conoceran con mejor falcete que Miguel Aceves. Les recomiendo este disco por tener el mayor numero de canciones con falcete. Todas las conciones del disco son buenas pero por lejos mis dos preferidas son la Malagueña y El Pastor. Que sentimiento les pone.Compren el disco y no se arrepentiran.

This is a wonderful album........1999-04-13

Aceves Mejia has terrific voice and this album has some of the most wonderful mariachi selections. If you like mariachi, don't pass on this one. This guy is the best huapangero that has ever lived. I'm a cantancorous cuss that hates sappy music but literally swoon over his cielo rojo or el pastor or virgencita de za..hell, all of them are great and I don't understand why the whole world doesn't know him better than Sinatra.

Great CD... Classics are on here that I remember my relatives singing when I was a child. If you are a fan of "folclore argentino," you'll enjoy this album... But, I can't think of a bad one they ever made.

I grew up listening to this woman sing her interpretations of songs written by the great Juan Gabriel. She has a beautiful voice filled with passion and heart. I recommend this disc. I'm sure you'll enjoy songs like Amor Eterno, Fue Un Placer Conocerte, and Tarde.

great voice, bland songs.......2003-05-11

I first heard the song 'Como Tu Mujer' on a tape of various artists and I thought, 'who is this woman with this moving and powerful voice?!' So needless to say I sought out to hear more of her songs. But unfortunately on this CD I was disappointed by all the other songs. Then I noticed they were written by a different songwriter...I don't have the CD anymore, but I wonder if the incredible Ms.Durcal has sung anymore songs by the writer of the song that I had fallen in love with.

This is unequivocally one of the most romantic and deeply passionate records I've ever heard. Everyone who has listened to it in my home has said (with enthusiasm), "Who IS THAT??" I tell them Augustin Lara and they run and buy it and consider it one of their best purchases. It's Augustin Lara and a piano and pure brilliance...no other instruments. Feels like you're in an intimate cafe setting in Spain. I can't recommend this album highly enough. Buy it--you will not regret it!

An exciting discovery.......2006-07-09

This was my introduction to Rocio Jurado, and I was completely enthralled. I only heard about her when she died and I discovered how beloved she was in the Spanish-speaking world. I don't speak Spanish and have only limited understanding, but that seemed hardly necessary to appreciate the range of emotion that she taps into with her songs. (It was nice, though, to have an El Salvadoran friend of mine translate some of the sentiments in her songs.)

All the songs are hits, the quality of recording...excelent
I do not get tired of listening to the CD.
