On their excellent first three records, Amsterdam's Alex Torres y Los Reyes Latinos (a.k.a. Alex Torres and the Latin Kings Orchestra) stuck to a blueprint, playing dance music around the salsa/merengue/cha-cha axis and singing everything in Spanish. With the astonishing "Entre Amigos", they boldlt go where no Latin Kings have gone before: the Kings play with genres, ignore boundaries, feature a pile of guest musicians and, for the first time, include songs sung in English. The result is a career-making and utterly original record, easily in the same league as anything the major labels are putting out and quite probably the finest record ever by a local group.

The last word on "Entre Amigos" is "Senorita Swing," a good-natured poke at all the swing bands in history who've stumbled over their gringo-ness by sticking a mambo into their set. Sung with a perfect Bobby Darin swagger by Jay Traynor, this blazing little burst demonstrates just how fabulously versatile, smart and joyfully subversive this brilliant band can be.

Passos has a lovely,wonderful tone, and these songs are
good for relaxation and soothing vibes. Carter is
one of the masters. I had hoped to hear a bit more of an
edge to Passos voice and to her approach, and I will look
at some of her other albums for this variance.

I was turned on to jazz when I was very young by the album Getz/Gilberto which my mom would always play at cocktail parties. I was particularly entranced by the gentle beautiful melodies and the simple singing and guitar style of Gilberto on the album. 40 years later, it is still one of my favorite albums and musical styles.

I recently bought a brazilian compilation that included Rosa Passos and I immediately rushed to Amazon and bought a few of her albums, including this one. I was instantly drawn to this one from the fact that Ron Carter was on the album as I primarily listen to Jazz and he is one of the great bass players of all time.

I was not disappointed. This album is so pure and so gorgeous. Rosa is the best student of Gilberto I have ever found down to her lovely unadorned soulful voice and perfect swinging guitar. The stripped down slightly jazzy treatment she gets from Ron and her band are the perfect accompaniment because it serves to frame her voice and guitar so well. Of all the Rosa albums I have, this is my favorite because it is so unadorned and unproduced. (Have not listened to her newest album, which is just her and her guitar - so for purests, that may be even better :)

Listen to it whenever you want to feel joy and the feeling of being a million miles from home on a tropical beach somewhere. Pure pleasure.

I thought I had written enough reviews here at amazon.and this review is not really needed..you can read the review by "Carlos from Rio" which says it all.
Anyway....I never heard of Rosa Passos until 6 months ago when I heard her on radio and was so amazed..the very same way as when I heard Wes Montgomery the first time in the sixties.Rosa Passos might remind a bit of Astrud Gilberto but has more "soul" in her voice even though her voice is quite "small" compared to other female jazz singers....but she sure has that jazzfeel that also Jobim had.
To me this Cd is so appealing since it is more or less completely accoustic..2 guitars. Rosa herself+ the wonderful guitarplayer Lula Galvao that is one of the best guitarplayers I ever heard. very subtle with a touch of flamenco .on bass it is maestro himself Ron carter..his playing is so obviuos and without any flashy pyrrotechnics..but just beautiful.
It is difficult to pick highlights,,,,but first song "Bahia Com H" immediately catches my ear..and also "Sorru Para Mim with it's airy feel and wonderful bossagroove..where Rosa lays slightly behind the beat and creates a very swinging mood..just great..and "Feitio de Oracao" which has an atmosphere of "Tristeza" and Hope in it at the same time spiced up with a wonderfully melody line.
Since I bought this one I have bought another 6 CD s with Rosa and I will continue until I have them all...you can not simply get enough of Rosa Passos music...To hear Rosa Passos sing is the closest you can come to heaven on this earth

This is one of the best bossa nova cd's around with 2 major artists collaborating. I have never heard such a plain, yet sublime voice like that of rosa passos. Just listen to Feito de Oração and Primera Vez. No actually just listen to the whole cd and you will begin to understand. When I first heard this cd I was living in P.R. at the time and I mistook the music for spanish jazz. The lyrics are definitely not spanish, instead portuguese and the style of music is all its own, known as bossa nova. Because I listen to a lot of jazz it took me a while to get into it because of the language. However now that I am more knowledgeable about bossa nova, I will say that this cd is already a classic. I wish more of rosa passos music was avalilable in the United states.

Rosa is the best! I've never heard a more sensual voice. Her Insensatez is marvellous, I am surprised at how she LIVES every line and every word of it. For me it's the best rendition of my best-loved Jobim song. The first time I heard Insensatez sung by Italian singer Mina, she was also stunning, she made it cold like ice, like wind in the mountains, like the moment when there are no more tears to cry... but Rosa's Insensatez is full of love and even of secret hope. Bahia com H is breezy and swinging, the other highlights are the last three songs, especially Vinicius de Moraes' famous sonnet Eu Sei que Vou te Amar. Before I heard Rosa I never could have imagined that such effortless vocals could reach a degree of dramatism close to Maria Bethania's. Bethania breaks your heart with her force, and Rosa does it with her whisper. To do justice to Ron Carter and other musicians, their arrangement is the best frame for the diamond that is Rosa's voice. Especially I loved the saxophone solo in Desafinado.

    Un gran trabajo el que ha hecho Victor Victor con este material. Ha reunido grandes cantautores como Joaquín Sabina, Fito Páez, Milanés, entre otros.

    Les recomiendo uno de los mejores temas, Un Vestido y un amor, que es una obra maestra de Fito Páez.

    I originaly bought this album for theyre version of Tony Vegas "Por Amor" song witch is quite nice, and victor victor voice reminds me of a young Juan Luis Guerra... I enjoy bachata very much but this isnt your average bachata album... Its simple but "nice" not a great album but unlike most bachata albums talking about some of the wall topic the lirical content was heartfelt i really enjoyed hearing the lyrics and once you listen to the lyrics it makes the song that much more enjoyable. That being said if you want a diff. bachata album with songs that have romantic feel to it buy it, victor victors voice is very soothing like i said before it reminds me of Juan Luis Guerra.

    I have this album as the original LP version, and just love it! "Perdona, Perdona", "Mienteme" (which shows Camilo's vocal range and the strength of his voice)and "Celos" are some of my favorite Camilo Sesto songs. All the songs on this albums should be classics - if they are not already. The title song "Entre Amigos" is also worth the price of the album. I have to say that it is unfortunate that so many of Camilo's albums are hard to find in the USA, or are over-priced (probably because of the difficulty in finding them). Because of the scarcity of his older albums, so many people are deprived of hearing his flowing lyrics, and his dynamic, melodic voice.

    This band has great talent but the album was totaly flat their intent is noticable but not felt,the musical arrangement was horrible and i was REALLY LET DOWN,especially for the price i paid i would have been better spending it on any other album. I give them 1 star for effort but thats about all they will get out of me.I expected alot more especially since they talked about the "OLD SCHOOL SALSA FEEL" it felt alot like reggeaton beat...the same beat over and over and over.

      Hace ya muchos años desde que se editó "Entre Amigos", todo un clásico de la música de la transición española.

      La obra de Aute se caracteriza por un nivel poético de alto calado, y en esta ocasión se rodea de gente de la talla de Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanés, Joan Manuel Serrat o Teddy Bautista.

      Si no viviste aquellos años es posible que el disco no te diga nada, y si los viviste casi seguro que te acuerdas de "Al alba" (todo un himno para una generación de españoles), de "Las cuatro y diez" o de "No te desnudes todavía", entre otras joyas. Imprescindible.

          I received this CD as a present at a luncheon and I didn't even know how Raul DiBlasio was. I could not believe that I didn't know about this wonderful pianist. I love every single piece to the point that it is my favorite CD ever. It is relaxing, but at the same time powerful. I love the mix of different styles among one CD. It incorporates many well known singers along with solos. I ended up buying every single CD he has ever produced.
