Not only were the songs a wonderful return to music I listened to as I was growing up, but the quality of the recordings was spectacular. I understand that Sony used a "special" process for their Leyenda series of recordings, and the results make this (and volume 2) well worth the price. This disc is a perfect introduction to bolero music if you aren't already a fan, and a "must have" if you are!

          It doesn't take much to realize that the songs listed under Carlos Gardel are not sung by Carlos Gardel. I suspect these are interpretations by Paco Medina, who decades ago recorded a few LPs in homenage of Gardel and embraced his style of singing. It's hard to find Medina's recordings now a days. The record company should specify that the singer is not Gardel. This aside, the selection and recordings are nice to listen.

          I agree with everything that has been said about this specific Orfeon recording. It is the worst CD I have bought and listened to, the worst audio quality. My old vinyl records sound much better than this CD. It's a pitty because Mona Bell is one of the finest singers in Latin America. I rated it with one star because I could not choose 0 star.

          When I first listened to this CD, I thought it was defective and had it replaced. I was mistaken. The sound quality is tinny and echoes -- like a garage recording. If you are a fan of Monna Bell, you may not recognize her. In addition to the inferior technical quality, her classics have been "updated" in this 70's recording to a disco beat. I haven't listened to it since, and cannot recommend it.

          For those of you who do not read Spanish, let me give you the essence of the GLENDALE review and add a few comments of my own. Yes, Monna Bell was a great singer. Her diction was impeccable. Listen to Doris Day in English or to Monna Bell in Spanish, and you will understand every single word of every single song. She also had Day's knack for exquisite phrasing, and she was lucky enough to work with people like Gregorio Garcia Segura at the beginning of her career, a collaboration which produced the classics Aun Te Sigo Amando and Silencio, Corazon. If you can find her Hispavox (now EMI) recordings of the 1959-1965 period, do not hesitate to pay top dollar for them. They are worth every penny.

          As far as this monstrosity is concerned, I can only but agree with GLENDALE and confirm that ORFEON RECORDS is the worst record label in the history of recorded sound, second only to sister company MONTILLA RECORDS, with whom it shares its well earned infamous reputation among record collectors. For decades they have been preying on down-on-their-luck artists and unsuspecting fans. They have thus amassed an extensive catalog of Latin music greats like Nati Mistral, Lucho Gatica, Bola de Nieve, Perez Prado, Alfredo Kraus, Olga Guillot, Esther Borja, Dolores Perez and dozen others. An Orfeon release will definitely guarantee you the following: 1- The worst sound possible; 2- The worst packaging and art work possible; 3- The worst production and engineering possible. You can always count on Orfeon's lack of quality. It's a given. They will never dissapoint you when it comes to taking your money and running.

          The very sad thing here is that the artists in Orfeon's roster are the best that our culture has to offer. There will never be another Alfredo Kraus. Yet his Orfeon releases are unlistenable. Ditto for Monna Bell and the others. I must stress here that it is never the performers who stink, but the record label, with its no-frills approach to its product.

          I pray for the day when Orfeon Records will go broke and/or will be bought by an enterprising company who will remaster its entire catalog, and give it to the consumer in acceptable sound and packaging. Until then, all we can do is stay away from anything that bears the ORFEON or MONTILLA logo and in the case of many of these artists, Monna Bell included, turn to their output for other labels as an alternative to their Orfeon tragedy.

          My best wishes to Monna Bell, wherever she may be, and my deepest felt thank you to this wonderful Chilean singer for providing me with so many hours of listening pleasure. I also offer her and her fellow Orfeon alumni my sincerest condolences and my heartfelt sympathy for ever having crossed paths with this abomination of a record company.

          Antes que nada, debo aclarar que soy un gran admirador de Monna Bell. Para mi esta artista es una de las pocas cantantes originales que ha producido hispanoamerica...Su influencia la podemos sentir y notar en docenas de otros cantantes que se han beneficiado de su original estilo y han hecho carrera copiando a la divina Monna...Pudiera mencionar nombres pero prefiero no hacerlo... Baste decir que Monna Bell es una cantante de voz y estilo que marco toda una epoca y que pudiera seguir vigente si se lo propusiera... Pasando al disco "Nostalgia" que se vende en esta pagina, le recomendamos a los lectores que no malgasten su dinero... "Nostalgia" es una recopilacion de 10 canciones grabadas por Monna Bell en la decada de los 70 para la peor casa disquera del mundo "Orfeon" de Mexico. Y digo que la peor pues estos delincuentes del disco llevan mucho tiempo sacando a la calle productos mal grabados, peor mezclados y estrepitosamente "feos" en su presentacion... Los dirigentes de "Orfeon" deberian dedicarse a otra cosa pues en la industria del disco no tienen nada que hacer... Si usted quiere oir a Monna Bell como Dios manda trate de conseguir sus grabaciones EMI-Hispavox. En esas encontrara las versiones originales de "UN TELEGRAMA", "SILENCIO CORAZON", "AUN TE SIGO AMANDO", "HAY UN SOLO CAMINO" Y otras tantas interpretaciones geniales de la cantante chilena... Y recuerde, cada vez que vea un disco de la marca "Orfeon" corra lejos de el... Su bolsillo se lo agradecera...

            I love all of the songs. When I was in High SCHOOL (Not a long time ago)I started listening to Rap and that new junk in my room while my mother heard Oldie spanish music in the kitchen. I got attracted to this music little by little. Now I listen to this songs and they are great.
            NO ONE SHOULD BE ASHAME OF THIS MUSIC.
            I started listening to this music(OLD not New spanish MUSIC); stuff like Sandro, Lolita, Camilo Sesto, Raphael, Juan Gabriel, and many more.

            NOW, these Singers CAN REALLY SING.

            Its just that people my age don't appreciate GREAT Music like this one. All they want to listen to is junk and I truly feel sorry for them.

            I needed a Spanish music CD for my Spanish class, so I bought Enrique Guzman's. When I started to play the CD, my entire class started laughing,and eight people simultaeneously said, "What the heck is this?" To make a long story short I was humiliated in front of my whole class. The music was a very poor attempt to immitate some American music at the time. It was a very noble idea but some of the words don't translate into Spanish and rhyme at the same time. It was a great attempt, but I can't reccomend this CD.

            Enrique Guzmán has a very good, sweet and soft voice, he has recorded many pleasant Spanish versions of Italian ballads, US hits and also some French songs. Thanks to him many of these songs were known in Spanish language countries.
