Iým in ýSalvaje Amorý with Iridian!.......2000-10-24

Iridian es como la flor, a breath of fresh air amid North America's sanitized, commercialized and watered-down Latin music "explosion" (a la Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera). More of her CDs are available now, which means that real Latin music lovers are beginning to discover this beautiful, spicy Latina. "Salvaje Amor" became available recently, though it was recorded a year before her delightful and easier-to-find "Entre la Tierra y la Luna." Though it may not be her debut album - this is the earliest recording widely available today.

Someday, hopefully all or Iridian's recordings will be available online and in CD stores, because out of all the female Tejano/ Tex-Mex / Ranchera divas (and there are some very good ones - Elida, Stefani, Jennifer, Delia, Margarita), Iridian is poised to assume the throne Selena sadly left behind upon her death. So far, all her albums possess a surprising consistency that the others mentioned above (except for Selena) seem to lack. All she needs is staying power, and a few more albums, but this is a great start! The sky's the limit for this diva from Mexico, and she's got the voice and the energy, and the looks, to make it!

Her voice soars through this terrific mix of soft and sweet ballads and fiery rancheras and cumbias. "Gallo Cancionero," "Bailando" and "Salvaje Amor" rock the house, while "Te Quiero Ver" and "Cruel Adios" rank as her best ballads. Her backing band rips through some cool licks and intricate fills, providing an able foundation for Iridian to work her magic.

"Entre la Tierra ... " and her latest, "Perita en Dulce" are also fantastic works, reflecting Iridian's desire to grow and develop as a legitimate artist. Yet, after one listen of "Salvaje Amor" you'll agree that this one has a special raw fire and passion all its own. !Ya Compralo!

"Entre La Tierra Y La Luna" combines rather simple backing tracks with some really infectious vocals for an enjoyable listening experience that Latin and non-Latin fans alike can enjoy. Even those who dislike "rancheras" can appreciate this album. While the childish "Mentiroso" often grates, "Muevele Que Muevele," "Dime" and the title track stand out in a set that will put a smile on your face. Iridian is an extraordinarily beautiful young woman (see inside the booklet!!) with loads of talent and a voice of gold. Listen to it today. It will make you happy.
