Essential songs missing.......2007-06-10

Aurra has a great sound and this compilation makes that clear but I don't understand how, in this 2 CD compilation, they could have left out 'HAPPY FEELING' and 'LIKE I LIKE IT'!

Anthology..........2007-05-06

I already own the "Best of Aurra" import disc (Paid $26/US) to get it. I enjoy it very much. This anthology, however is a better value for the money! Salsoul Records comes through once again with a 2-Disc set (the cover is different than shown, by the way). I paid $15/US for it.

Standout songs: Make up your mind, Are you single? (The BEST song in my opinion! Also, there is an informatinal error on the back of the disc. Are you single? is listed at 4:33. It's actually the 6:33 extended version!!), In the Groove, Keep On Doin' it and Patience. An excellent value for the money, $15/US well spent! Five stars!!

Aurra's Music Is Timeless.......2005-10-13

Unlike some who didn't approve of Aurra having released a 2 disc greatest hits Cd, I am pleased with both Cd's.
I am a big fan of Slave also. The vocals from songstress Starleana Young and her male counterpart Curt Jones brings back fond memories of the year 1981 when music to me was really Slammin!,they really harmonized good! together And according to my opinion no one or any female singer today sounds better than Starleana,to bad she didn't get the recognition she so richly deserves, Oh yeah! just mentioning Aurra puts a smile on my face.

great post-disco, pre-urban stuff!.......2004-02-29

I disagree that there are just too many tracks. The stuff by Aurra is very hard to find these days unless you go looking for vinyl records (which I haven't...yet!). I'd rather see the precious music preserved digitally this way than see them go totally forgotten. The price is reasonable for such a huge 2-CD set as well.

To me, the charm of soul/funk music in this era is the fusion of sophisticated yet still warm-sounding synths and drum machines layered on top of funky, totally danceable beats. Oh, don't forget those beautifully catchy melodies that are so quintessential of 80s music! Aurra has it all --- that tight bass & guitar by Steve Washington, sultry vocal interplay of Starleana Young (man her voice is lovely) and Curt Jones --- totally addictive stuff for an 80s music buff! Guitar and bass cuts of Aurra are simply amazing. Unfortunately Aurra didn't last long as a group, and this compilation is mostly made of material done by Steve Washington in the early 80s. More modern, urban stuff from Young and Jones (e.g., as Deja) after their departure from Washington aren't in this album.

Stand-out tracks for me are: "Send Your Love," "Are You Single," "Checking You Out," "Nasty Disposition," "Keep on Doin' It," "Patience," and "Baby Love." I actually like most dance songs on this gem.

This collection along with the "Salsoul Classics 2" is very essential to all disco fans that want something different than mainstream artists like Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor...

If you bought "The Disco Box" and/or "The Disco Years, Vol. 1-7", then you will like this collection. Salsoul was just as important to the Disco era as those artists. First Choice, Instant Funk, Double Exposure, and of course The Salsoul Orchestra (which had friendly competition with MFSB and Love Unlimited Orchestra) were talented artists that helped spawn disco. Highly recommended.

Without question the greatest selection of music from the
Disco era and one unforgettable record company.
There is not one day that goes by that I am humming
in my head " My love is free' by Double Exposure.
Loleatta's hits "Hit and run", " Love Sensation" and " Dreamin".
" Doctor Love" and " Double Cross" by First Choice.
The music of 2000 and up will never reach the status of classic.
These are songs that will transcend time and I will never stop
dancing to them.

Classic Salsoul!!.......2003-11-05

This 2-CD set is a collection of some of Salsoul Records' classic tracks, all in their full-length versions. While many songs here may be familiar to those who heard them in the clubs, there are also some tunes that became radio hits ("I Got My Mind Made Up"-Instant Funk, e.g.). The wide variety of sounds found on this set (spanning roughly from 1975 to 1983), is just mesmerizing. Some tunes are ultimate workout numbers: Loleatta Holloway's "Dreamin'", "Love Sensation" and "Hit And Run", Double Exposure's "Ten Percent", and Ripple's "The Beat Goes On". There are two Shep Pettibone remixes from 1983 of previously released records: "Let No Man Put Asunder" (originally recorded by First Choice in 1977) and "Oooh I Love It (Love Break)", a reworking of Salsoul Orchestra's 1975 LP cut "Chicago Bus Stop". Famed Paradise Garage d.j. Larry Levan's "Garage" version of Inner Life's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" clocks in at 10:27. For those who have just become acquainted with the music of this excellent record label, this 2-disc set is worth every penny!! Other fine cuts from this collection include First Choice's "Love Thang" (1979), Aurra's "Checking You Out" (1982), Inner Life's "Moment Of My Life" (also from 1982), and Skyy's "Call Me" (1981).

Chronic Disco Classics.....................2002-11-30

This a great CD to purchase. This CD is packed with jammin disco classics. Many people try to diss disco, but many don't know or understand how DEEP First Choice or Loletta Holloway really are. There are plenty of disco classic on this CD. First Choice & Loletta both got alot of radio play on Chicago's WBMX 102.7 in the 80's.

As a kid in Brooklyn NY my family would listen to this "album" while putting up the Christmas Tree. What memories this brought back, for those of you that remember the original its a bit different but nothing that has stopped me from listening to it over and over again. For those of you who haven't listened to it yet, get a tradition started! It's Great!

....in the rough. One of the post disco albums that was slept on. This band released their follow up to the disco classic "IM CAUGHT UP (IN ONE NIGHT LOVE AFFAIRS)" in 1981. The exuberant ballad "ITS WONDERFUL" showcases lead singer (The great JOCELYN BROWN's) earthy vocals. The power and tenderness in which she sings of a great love shows you she was in peak form and was definitely one the great voices of disco and r&b at the time. She penned that tune as well. Another winner is the slow jam "MAKE IT LAST FOREVER" (Not to be confused with Keith Sweat's version)

The dance jams are hear of course "PAY GIRL" and the funky remake of "AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH" in which BROWN delivers an intense performance on a funky beat. The undeniable "KNOCK OUT (LETS GO ANOTHER ROUND)" will have you singing the chorus for days! This is a sleeper of a album for late 70's/early 80's r&b buffs. All the cuts are well produced and crafted. This group always delivers consistent efforts and the listen is not a bore with just 7 tracks. It is actually too short and leaves you wanting more. With JOCELYN BROWN singing on all the songs you just cant go wrong. Groove on!

The Strongest of Inner Life's Albums.......2001-07-25

The Cd packaging does not give the original year of release, and elsewhere there has been some confusion whether this was Inner Life's second or third album. It is, however, their best release. Lead singer Jocelyn Brown is in the forefront of the mix, strong and recognizable in each track and even author of one track ("Pay Girl"). The original album starts and ends with ballads, the first being an especially good torch song, and contains three good dance tunes ("Ain't No Mountain," "Let's Go Another Round," "Let's Get This Thing Together," with the latter being a previously unreleased bonus track.) While I never thought that this version of the Ashford and Simpson classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was a definitive one, it and the other tracks grow more memorable with repeated listening. As an album, the whole holds together well and is more than a home to a good extended track padded with filler material. It is one of the better disco era long plays.

This Album is on my All Time Top 100 which includes all kinds of music. All tracks are good but "Let's Get It Off" stands out. It's so good I wish there where 1000 more songs like it. But there isn't. It's unique.

I am a big fan of this artist. One song I think was one of his best songs ever was FuntownUsa I could be wrong. I think it's on the other album. If someone knows the name could you it leave it on the review. Thanks!

magnificent piece of work!.......2000-03-15

Rafael Cameron's debut album was a big hit when it first hit the airwaves back in the 80's. Even today i love to experience his music, however,as a consequence he only made two albums which saddens me because one this was good wholesome music, and two, you just don't hear melodies such as these anymore. Finally, i wish these old school artist's like Cameron would consider the fact that people like myself still enjoy their songs and would like for them to persuade the record companies to reprint these masterpieces for recirculation as most folks know these days; we are tired of the new wave of sounds that are entering our earholes, and we are reverting back to a time when music was truly just that, Music! So much that many radio stations nation-wide are transgressing because older people will not listen to the music they're putting out. In my hometown we have a station that plays the old hits such as Cameron's "Magic in You", "FunkDown", "Your All That's Good To Me" and i find the particular station on everywhere i go. In essence what i'm saying is it is up to these artist's to use their influence to change the formatting of radio, and reproduction by record makers as well. Afterall, they will beneifit and so will longtime fans of singers and musicians such as Rafael Cameron!

Why bother.......2007-01-30

Aurra had a couple of great dance tunes. One of them `You And Me Tonight' was a hit in the UK in the spring of 1986. It still ranks as one of the best tunes of that era. So why on this compilation is there an inferior previously unheard mix of the track rather than the glorious original?

good salsoul.......2002-01-23

this is an above average album that was reissued from the salsoul vault. I remember seeing this in a used album price list as $30. but now on cd for one low price. This is a good album by the love committee (as far as i know, they only had one). The best songs on here are: of course Law & order, cheaters never win, pass the buck, just as long as i got you, and the bonus track where will it end. The rest are useless throw away ballads. If you have the origional salsoul classics 1&2, 3&4 you really don't need this but it's worth buying.
