Not good for snorkeling sites.......2007-01-21

I bought this book with the hopes of learning about good snorkeling sites at Grand Cayman. I wanted information so that I could decide what places would be worth our time and would be okay to take our 9 year to (as well as a map of the location). I was quite disappointed. It describes numererous dive sites and gives a "star rating" for snorkeling of these sites. However, it does not really address snorkeling individually. There are several well known snorkel sites that are not even mentioned in this book. Thankfully, I learned about these sites over the internet so that we can enjoy them during our stay. This book did not help me prepare at all. I imagine it is good for those who dive though.

Very logical layout... format is easy to read and particularly interesting to follow...

Great general resource........2007-03-27

While the book does not "dive" too deep into any location, it does a great job of giving you a brief on what to expect. The quick reference areas that provide quick reference are great.

While the book will offer limited details if you know where you are going, if you doing a general search for your next dive it is perfect.

The Ultimate Guide.......2007-01-15

Actually, an "ultimate guide" would have a greater variety of more detailed information for planning a trip. That said, it is a gorgeous book. Gave it as a gift to my dive buddy/husband, and he loved it. Great ideas for places to go that are off the beaten path.

This book has great descriptions of the selected dive sites and excellent pictures. It is however one man's opinion of the best dive sites and it doesn't specify exactly where the dive sites are so it serves only as a planning guide and does not help locate the dive site.

Good world overview of top dive destinations.......2006-08-23

This book has beautiful photography and covers most of the world's great dive destinations. Considering that it is primarily a picture book, it also offers a good deal of information on the classic dives at each location. I liked that it included information on water temperature, weather and seasons, dive difficulty, and local travel tips. While it doesn't provide enough information to plan a complete trip, I feel it does provide the right kind of depth to choose a destination. Another reviewer complained that the maps left a little to be desired. In my opinion, that level of detail is more appropriate for a destination travel planning book, such as Lonely Planet or Frommers. I don't know of another book that offers as much information on dive destinations on the world scale.

The Ultimate Guide is well written and the pictures are nice and sharp so the book is very beautiful to look at, but its weakness rests on VERY uninformative maps! All in all the book is worth getting, IMO.

Arthur Lydiard is the man that pioneered jogging and brought success to a generation of athletes from New Zealand. the author David Wright is a renowned swim coach and in this book he shows how Lydiard's philosophy can be applied to swimming
While this book is gerared to coaches both beginners and experienced even solo swimmers training on their own will get alot out of this book.Not full of drills or learn to swim instruction this book will aid in establishing a good mental approach and more importantly will let swimmers have a plan and sense of direction.
Written in an easy reading style most of Wright's stories or examples are about swimmers in New Zealand and not world house hold name swimmers but this doesn't lessen the relevance or meaning behind then.Wright is an old school coach and his views on training and diet are logical and refreshingly succint in this age of high tech jargonism.photographs are not in huge number but break up the text enough to keep interest high.
The book is if anything a text book on coaching and those looking for a learn to swim will be better steered to other books which deal with this topic.
Overall a good interesting read that will benefit any competitive swim coach or athlete.

An extremely helpful book. The title of this book reflects the frustration entrepreneurs face while seeking capital in the financial arena. I found the book not only helpful in outlining the preparation of a comprehensive business plan, but also what to expect when presenting it to a financier. It provides a synopsis on the various types of lenders; how and why they will view your project. It gives a step by step outline on how to write a plan capable of raising capital. It also provides you with a track to run on that will help you grow your business.

A Great Read --- A Must for every Entrepreneur, you read tons of book that tell you how to do the deal, but this book tells you what not to do and why....and at the same time what to do and why it works. It is a humorous journey of the life of someone that is always chasing the deal. Bonus: There is even a Business Plan at the back of the book that anyone can follow.

Great Photos, but otherwise very disappointing........2004-12-17

The title of any book is an indication of the content and "Top Dive Sites of the World" is a very big claim. Of course, any personal selection claiming "the best of" will always be subjective. My list will be different from yours and neither of us is either right or wrong - it is simply a matter of personal choice coupled with our own diving experiences.

This book is laid out in 7 general areas of the World; The Caribbean, Atlantic, Mediterranean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, Indo Pacific and Pacific. Straight away, as we enter the Caribbean, we find two of the world's most outstanding dive destinations are not even mentioned in passing. Not only is Belize (home of the world's second largest Barrier Reef "and" the Great Blue Hole) not even mentioned, the country itself is not even shown on this publisher's map of the world. Next up, the "Atlantic Ocean" is reduced to Scapa Flow and the Canary Islands. The Mediterranean is confined to Sardinia alone - and once again countries such as Malta do not even appear on the map. Predictably, the Red Sea includes the Thistlegorm - but not the Rosalie Moller, which many divers regard as a much better shipwreck.

Of course I could go on about what is missing from the remainder of the book - but the point is made. Too many of the world's acknowledged "Top" dive sites and destinations are missing from this book to allow it's title of "Top Dive Sites of the World" to go unchallenged. "My favourite dives from around the World" would have been a more honest title.

My second criticism is content. The text is not well written and, for example, the section on Scapa Flow tells us nothing whatsoever about any specific shipwreck - and "shipwrecks" are the very reason why divers go there in the first place! It is just an overview of the Flow which takes up less than 2 pages of text. Elsewhere, such outstanding shipwrecks as Egypt's Thistlegorm (and a whole book has been written about that particular wreck!), is reduced to a few words.

In summary, a good book for pretty pictures but these tend to mask an otherwise disappointing book.
