Customer Reviews:
The Best on the Topic, and More.......2007-05-03
I recommend this book as a fascinating read to anyone, whether or not they are interested in minimizing their tax-load legally. (And who isn't?) But while this book delivers brilliantly on that score, it is also an authoritative, entertaining manual that serves as a wake-up call on the state-of-the world these days. It treats the both the big picture and the important details of offshore, and provides excellent contacts for not just legally avoiding taxes, but also for protecting one's assets, future, and indeed, one's personal safety and sovereignty. Further, this is not only the best book on the topic by far, but it is the only current book by several years. And the author truly knows his topic. Fascinating, excellent read.
Eye Opening.......2007-02-24
This is an eye opening book you must experience. Regardless of your politics, nobody likes excess and unfair taxation. Taxation without representation started the American Revolution, however the American Spirit is dead. We are the only industrialized nation that taxes our citizens living abroad. As I write this review, there is small business legislation in congress, hidden inside of that legislation is a law that would allow the IRS to tax assets of Americans who decide to expatriate to a country with less of a tax burden. A must read book. For additional information, visit The Sovereign Society website. In addition, The Patriot Act has allowed our government investigators to replace "probable cause" with "suspicion" when investigating your (the taxpayer's) financial privacy.
A Handbook for Paranoid Dreamers.......2007-02-05
Whatever practical advice this book offers is undermined by its paranoid anti-government tone: would you really contact - and entrust your money to - a financial advisor in a foreign country on the basis of a recommendation by someone who opens with dark warnings such as "Certain special interests in the world today are trying to close particular doors as we speak"? Or, "The trick is that governments with certain behind-the-scene agendas regularly redefine those parameters in an attempt to control their taxable subjects and hang on to revenues for support of their ever-expanding plans and budgets. As James Bond said, 'World domination, same old dream.'" (Page 3). If you're writing an adolescent spy-thriller, this book will be fine background. If you're planning an estate or have real financial responsibilities, look elsewhere.

Book Description
One of the keys to investment success is the ability to identify the most promising companies in the leading industries. But that is not as simple as it sounds. Although most investors, portfolio managers, and finance students understand the basics of investment analysis, the dynamics of individual industries are more difficult to grasp since they can vary greatly from one industry to another.
The Handbook of Canadian Security Analysis is the definitive guide to analyzing the industry sectors in the Toronto Stock Exchange 300 Composite Index. It gives you the analytical tools you need to measure profitability and stock potential in every major industry grouping of the Canadian market. This two-volume reference brings together — for the first time ever — advice from twenty-seven of Canada's top financial analysts. Each chapter gives practical, expert advice on what makes a particular industry tick:
- industry overview
- trends and developments
- key performance measures
- markets and competition
- the regulatory environment
- cyclical and seasonal influences, and much more.
The Handbook of Canadian Security Analysis gives you a rare glimpse into the world of financial analysts: what they look for, and how they make their decisions. This distinguished group of financial experts share their vast experience and specialized knowledge on how to analyze specific industries to help you invest for success:
- the factors that underlie analysts' stock selections
- the analytical techniques, yardsticks, and tools of the trade used to value securities
- the quantitative and qualitative factors to take into account when analyzing stocks in each particular industry
- when to buy and sell individual securities
- how and where to get more information on the industry.

Customer Reviews:
Viewers aware! disappointed!.......2006-10-14
I agree with the review written by John Vantel on July 16, 2005. I am disappointed at this book. I can find much more valuable information at the small "real estate" section of "Personal Finance for Canadians for Dummies" than this whole book. The book has compiled a simple to-do-list for people who will be interested in doing real estate investment. It is an ok job. I think the main purpose for this book is rather to get people sign in for their monthly paid membership program or attend their seminars. Just to be aware.
Must have if you want to buy revenue property in Canada or elsewhere.......2006-08-05
This is an excellent, step by step, clear and consise approach to how to acquire good revenue property. Much like a John Grisham novel, it is hard to put down before you're done! Excellent network supporting the process available to you too.
Warning, FAKE reviews.......2006-06-06
Please be aware that all the 5 star reviews you see below are all probably written by the auther himself. You will notice that all the reviewers have posted within a very short time from each other, most have a common single name, and if you click on their name this is the only review they have written on Amazon.
I have not read the book, but if the publisher/author had to resort to abuse of the Amazon peer review system, then his advice can't be worth taking.
Great book for Canadian real estate investing.......2005-11-27
Don Campbell finally fills in a needed gap in real estate literature. "Real Estate Investing In Canada" is a great book on real estate investing focusing completely on Canada.
Mr. Campbell goes through the basics on real estate investing by telling the story of a new investor. I somewhat liked the approach... only partially because I've done a lot of reading on real estate before and this was a little bit tedious. However I wish I had read this book first and then the other books because this broke down the process really well.
The organization of the book is exceptional and the major points are spelt out. It is also an easy read with a lot of great information, particularly the mortgage binder.
On the downside, the book could have used a little more detail in specific Canadian techniques that an investor can use as well as in structural analysis (major points to look out for). However the book still deserves it's 5 out of 5 stars rating.
Finally ý a book for Canadians that works!.......2005-09-04
After reading a lot of books and taking a lot of courses, this book finally fills the gap. It does it practically and teaches you the basics you need to know to really buy property. No fuss, no muss, just do it using a simple approach. The other guys tell you stuff to sell books, Don tells you stuff to buy properties.
I have purchased several properties using these exact systems.
Thanks Don!

Book Description
Governments and corporations may chip in, but around the world houshold saving is the biggest factor in national saving. To better understand why saving rates differ across countries, this volume provides the most up-to-date analyses of patterns of household saving behavior in Canada, Italy, Japan, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Each of the six chapters examines micro data sets of household saving within a particular country and summarizes statistics on patterns of saving by age, income, and other demographic factors. The authors provide age-earning profiles and analyses of the accumulation of wealth over the lifetime in a clear way that allows quick comparisons between earning, consumption, and saving in the six countries.
Designed as a companion to Public Policies and Household Saving (1994), which addresses saving policies in the G-7 nations, this volume offers detailed descriptions of saving behavior in all G-7 nations except France.

Just a text book.......2007-01-09
Hard to understand the content of the book. The basic meaning is not difficult. But the way the book descripts the theories/meanings is really hard to understand.
Just a textbook.
Good textbook.......2003-02-12
We were required to buy this textbook for our Engineering Economics class at UT-Austin. I found this book helpful as an introduction to business. It gave us quite a number of examples and review questions to help us understand the major concepts. Even though the book may have contained a little too much information, I really liked it since I learnt a lot from it.
Typos and poor writing make this a frustrating book.......1999-05-10
I was subjected to this book as a requirment for an Engineering Management masters degree course. I've seen a lot of textbooks in 7 years of college, but this one has got to be the most frustrating! There are MANY typos, not just mispellings - but problems done incorrectly. Also, many of the chapters are taken from other text, so there's not a good flow to the book. You'll probably only buy this book as a requirement for a class, but beware!!!

Puts life in perspective.......1998-11-05
As a member of Generation-X (that means in 1998 I'm 35...)I find this book puts many things about life today in perspective. An excellent and easy read, I would recommend this to anyone who is fascinated by social and demographical characteristics of our society. A word of warning though, for all you Gen-Xers out there... You may develop a new found hatred of people in their late 40s and early 50s... It's a fun book. Read it.

I liked it so much, I made my wife read it........1998-08-15
I read this book in the summer of 1996, and found it to be an excellent tool. It takes a very organized approach to presenting the history of demographics and applying demographics to trends that we have observed over the past. It is highly relevant to life in rural Ontario which is where i was living at the time. Issues like the future importance of hospital closings, school development, and social programs should all be viewed in the context of demographics.
After reading this I went on to read Faith Popcorn's books, and found them to be rather flat predictions that demographics could easily fortell. Boom Bust & Echo is a useful toolkit for business people with lots of examples to draw from. My wife and I had our own company at the time, and I had to make her read the book so we could re-assess our strategy in light of this under-used tool, and it allowed us to reposition our company without straying from our original mission.

Customer Reviews:
Very informative book with real world tips and advice........2007-01-11
Both of the books from Capmbell are excellent for anyone trying to enter into the real estate game and get their knowledge up on the subject. He writes in a very simple to understand fashion.
Not the typical vague "greyness" you read in most other real estate investment books. He writes in specifics which is refreshing!
A good companion to Real Estate Investing in Canada.......2006-08-05
If you are considering just buying the 97 tips, don't. Get the previous book "Real Estate Investing in Canada" too. Buy them both - it is absolutely worth it!
Serious about RE ? This book will save you time and money........2006-06-29
Another great book by Don Campbell and his team of real estate professionals. The 97 tips that this book is packed with have saved me a lot of time any money.
Regardless of where you are in your investing cycle, I'm sure that you can pick out at least ten points from this book to put to work right away and feel justified spending the money to buy it. In fact, a few of the tips have saved me thousands of dollars on purchases and made me thousands on sales.
Some tips are common sense that you might simply overlook or forget about when analyzing a property. Others tips are more specific to creating healthy, win-win joint venture deals and conducting the proper due diligence necessary to make both partners happy and successful.
No one book can teach you all there is to know, but it is valuable to have a set of quick starters to point you in the right direction. Don speaks from experience in the market and genuine, straight forward truth rings out.
My wife and I are Canadians based in Japan and we have been successfully investing into Alberta real estate for many years. We work with partners from all around the world and I can tell you from experience that these tips have helped save me money in financing, tenant management and setting up of JVAs- all of those profits have been added to my partner's returns, and happy partners help my business grow.
But, remember.. The tips only work if you put them into action!
